This seraphic monument to the goodness of humanity resides quietly on the corner of humble, and blessedness (just south of Maplewood on Middlebelt Road.) For me, it calls to mind prophetic words of wisdom: "Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy." Anne Frank Except for me, dear friends, "all the beauty still left around you" is now within the hallowed halls of Ramey's. Let's be honest. The world has become an even sulkier shade of suck in recent years. However, there is no need to run into the street and throw yourself into oncoming traffic just yet, because there is at least one place on this Earth where you are promised Good Spirits, and Good Times and by God do they deliver. If you are daring enough, I challenge you to take a stroll out from the mundane, and dive head first through the pearly steel door of Ramey's. As you advance past the amply spaced parking lot, you must pay a trivial fee of two bits to the kindly troll living in a cave cleverly disguised as a car. This fee will buy you admittance onto the boat that crosses the turbulent river of cigarette butts in front of the entrance. If strength remains after your perilous river crossing, you will then need to muster what you have left to pass through the gate of steel, the last hurdle between yourself and paradise. Upon entry, you are faced with a explosion of sensory bliss. The warm, damp breath of Ramey's tastes like a smell, or smells like a taste, but leaves you satisfied nonetheless. After the small heart attack suffered from hearing the thunk of the door (or your fate) being sealed behind you, you then begin to hear hymns sung by angels like Garth Brooks. An earthly voice will help you regain your composure with a friendly shout from behind the sweeping eight stool bar. Your eyes, will be flooded with remarkable sights, and you will be left wondering what wizard conjured up such a miraculous visage? Remarkably what you behold is real, physically in your presence. Not one, but TWO massive 17 1/2" panel televisions. I'm still in shock as I simply cannot compute how a television works when it is in a panel no thicker than 4 or 5 fantasy novels stacked together. For your safety, the Weather Channel is permanently fixed on the screens to assure you that you have not died and gone to heaven. As you allow your eyes to meander through the haze of cigarette smoke a decade old, you stumble upon such richness that is seldom seen. Ancient mythologic creatures like hybrid mountain cats with antlers adorn the walls tastefully. Cutting edge video poker game systems abound discretely in corners of the room long forgotten by time. The intoxicating amber glow of light over the billiards table is reminiscent of a Rembrandt, DaVinci, or Kentucky Fried Chicken heating lamp. The stage, is a romanesque grand coliseum condensed into the size of a walk in closet, and is arranged with the worlds finest garbages, arranged with the zen, tender care of a blind bhuddist monk. A vast treasure awaits the adventurous soul who plans to relieve themselves. Upon the toilet stall divider, is a lavish community literature and poetry monument. Any passerby, may leave his poops, and share his prose. Aside this shining example of the arts, is the understated half finished sink, obviously a minimalist piece, complete with a tantalizingly scummy bar of Zest soap taken from someones shower several years ago. Help yourself to a drink, along side your friends. For your pleasure, modern ideals like convenience have been tossed aside to ensure a meaningful rustic experience. Only united states legal tender is accepted in the form of dollars, five dollars, dollars, dimes, quarters, nickels, farts, dollars, and dimes. Not a single drink is offered on the menu with a whole dollar value to maximize the amount of math practice we are all so fond of. The bartender, is a triumphant sea side cliff, that has been beaten by the waves and if you so much as hit me one more time I swear to God we are getting divorced and I'm calling the police. Her eyes, are jubilant and wise, and not one bit scary. If it is your birthday and you get to see her glorious breasts, it may call to mind when Adam first beheld the rack of Eve, or perhaps recall to mind every awkward boner your thirteen year old self ever had. There is simply too much goodness there, that living any kind of life within the confines of society will never compare to the times had at Ramey's. I urge you to quit your job, leave your families behind, and ask for a small space under the bar to live in, and live out the rest of your days in divine bliss. read more

Understatement is the name of the game here, folks. A quiet respite from the woes of Inkster, Ramey's revels in its own subtlety. The neutral colors of the basement-wood paneling soothe and relax the eye, while the faint smell of urinal cakes and stale trucker farts arrange a pleasant bouquet of scents throughout the establishment. While your olfactory senses are being massaged, feel free to take a load off in any one of the seven hundred chairs that are everywhere. Melt into your naugahyde seat and bask in the barely-there glow of the painstakingly recreated funeral home lighting. Obvious care has been taken to make sure all heath codes are followed, as the trash is politely relegated to the stage and the stall in the bathroom conveniently has no door, promoting the community open-air ethos of the bar. The staff is friendly and attentive and the patrons will welcome you with open arms. All of these things work together to ensure that Ramey's becomes almost an extended family as soon as you walk in through the beautiful threshold - the sixteen ton door slamming shut behind you with the force of five or six rhinoceros, so as to seal in all the fun. And speaking of fun, it's certainly something Ramey's isn't lacking in! The jukebox conveniently has all of your favorite Jimmy Buffet and Limp Bizkit tunes and is sure to get any party started. Pull up a seat with a couple of friends and strap yourselves in for a rousing game of video poker on any of the two machines (but be advised: it can be a bit of a wait to get a chance to play, as these machines are in pretty high demand). See if you can beat my high score! An extensive food menu is sure to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters with a veritable smorgasbord of options. The beer connoisseurs among us will be greeted by a cornucopia of domestic brews ranging from Bud to Bud Light and hard-to-come-by imports like Labatt Blue or Labatt Blue Light. And for the health-conscious patron, Ramey's has thought to even include an exercise bike to work off those calories right there as you gain them. It is quite obvious that Ramey's has taken some pretty big steps to remain Green and environmentally-friendly. In order to cut down electrical usage the bar floor hasn't been vacuumed in what has to be decades, allowing for a colony of mice to form around it and clean it themselves - the organic way. The clock on the wall may or may not be plugged in to conserve some extra wattage. The walls are coated in a viscous glaze of farts, sneezes and moist depression, reminding you that Ramey's refuses to use harsh cleaner chemicals in order to prevent toxic runoff into our beautiful nearby rivers. So come on by! Saddle up and unwind with a nice whiskey and Big K Cola, straight from the two-liter. Reconnect with some old friends and leave with a couple new ones. Soak up the atmosphere as the cares of the world seem to melt away. Barf wherever you like. And hey, you might even get the chance to see Ramey himself if you're lucky enough! Seriously the best bar in Garden City. Maybe even in Metro-Detroit! The atmosphere is great. The weather channel faintly playing in the background and the bags of trash placed on the stage make for the ideal atmosphere too grab a brew with your bud. The service is the best that anyone could expect. The bartender won't hesitate to show you her chest. What a delight. Also if you let them know it's your birthday she'll make a cake that looks like woman's breasts. LOL! There was no door on the bathroom stale, but who cares? One time when I went there was a table saw just sitting in the middle of the floor. It made for some great times when we had some drinks in us. The regulars are some of the friendliest people I've even met. One dry humped my friend on the pool table then tried blowing him in the bathroom. LOL! Sadly the bartender stopped them. Although you do have to ignore the woman who lives in her car in the parking lot. So next time you're in Garden City with the family stop by Ramey's! Try the fish! read more
