Went to Mexico and highly recommended dentist, w/state of the art dentist equipment, said he did not need the 2 replaced, but did need 2 more and some other minor dental work. Paid $4500. read more

Avoid this Dentist. Shady business practices. Told me what I wanted to hear to get me in for a cleaning and then I got slapped with a bill at the end. Took no accountability for their assurances. They said its their policy to be upfront, but that was not my experience. They'll probably reply to this with some excuses or to place blame on my insurance, but when I called to nicely discuss my grievances it fell upon deaf ears. My insurance said they bill higher than what is typical too. Dentist did an exam for literally 1-2 minutes with me, apparently that costs $128 and thats certainly not everything that was on the final bill. Should have listened to the other bad reviews about billing. Do yourself a favor and find a different dentist. Nothing special about this place. read more

After years of going to this dentist, I had to switch because his staff could not figure out how to bill, in a timely manner, my insurance carrier. My husband's dentist never had a problem (and I am the primary on it!) but yet Dr Hommanfar's staff continuously dropped the ball in submitting in a timely manner and cost me hundreds of dollars out of pocket. read more

I feel very misled by this dentist office. I checked on multiple occasions before my first visit about whether they took my insurance or not. I was assured that they did but when I had to pay a $97 co-pay in office I asked if they were out of network. Turns out they were out of network but the receptionist assured me that my insurance covered 80% of the visit. I was hit with a $400 bill a month later for a cleaning and x-rays and that was in addition to what they billed my insurance company. Turns out my insurance only paid up to a certain amount which is fine but I feel like this could have been mentioned before I sat in the dentist chair, especially when I vocalized my concern of being billed over what the copay was. I would never have agreed to such a high priced cleaning. On top of it, the doctor spent a whole 3 minutes with me and I've been waiting for an office manager to return my call for the last week. Really disappointed with this entire experience. I absolutely would not recommend this dentist. read more

Arriving at Dr. Homanfar's office I was greeted with his staff wearing face masks, my temperature was taken and I was asked questions of covid-19 virus safety. I immediately felt comfortable and safe. My procedure in this visit was to replace a porcelain crown. Dr. Homanfar was so amicable he even asked if I would like to see my new porcelain crown being created as his hi-tech equipment carved out my new tooth. This was amazing! Avoid. Their billing is deceptive and abusive. I've was a patient for years. They send repeated invoices, but never respond to any request for explanation. Even when I went in for appointments and asked that they resolve the billing issues I was told they would handle it and not too worry. Except they continue to send invoices with no details describing the bill breakdown. Just a demand for payment. I have no idea where these charges came from, what visit they relate to, nothing. I also have no intention of ever paying them. I left my last dentist for the same reason. Starting to suspect that shady billing is a widespread practice among dentists. read more

I made an appointment in an effort to see if a natural dentist could help with my health issues. Specifically, the appointment was to look for hidden dental infections. My experience: Scheduling: My appointment was scheduled for a Thursday and was switched to Tuesday due to scheduling issues and staff shortage. I am a teacher on summer break so I don't mind being flexible and was able to switch my appointment. Not all people have that ability. Had I not been able to switch last minute, my appointment would have been delayed. The Appointment: My 3 hour appointment consisted of an initial assessment including a 3-d x-ray and four wings. After the X-rays the dentist came to speak with me about potential options which might be helpful, which included NICO for my wisdom teeth sockets. The appointment, even though long, hadn't been bad up to this point. The hygienists are very friendly and kind, but once the good dr entered the scene, it took a turn into sketchy territory. The dentist then proceeded to say nothing definitive about my wisdom tooth sockets and could not explain if there was infection there or around my current fillings, or not. When I asked directly if there was an infection he went into a story about a man who had no infection, but came to him for a crown and once the dr replaced the crown the man's headaches disappeared. He then proceeded to segueway into a conversation about how his type of dentristry seems crazy and unaccepted, but it seems to work for people. He then told me a story about a woman in a wheel chair who came to see him who 4 years later was able to walk. How good that made him feel to know that his work can provide such results, and then began to pressure me to have the NICO procedure. He didn't answer my questions about my specific situation and kept moving onto new topics. As he explained the procedure he then said he would knock me out via IV sedation so I wouldn't remember anything. When I told him no, I don't have dental anxiety and didn't need sedation, he kept pushing for it like he didn't hear me. After I said multiple times I won't undergo IV sedation, he then said he'd give me a pill then so I wouldn't remember the procedure. Again, I said that wasn't necessary since I am not scared or anxious around dental procedures. I asked if there was a reason for his adamant pushing of sedation in one form or another? He wouldn't answer me or give eye contact. I asked if the procedure was lengthy? He said no, an hour, hour and a half, so I asked again about why he felt sedation was necessary, he wouldn't answer and again switched topics to another patient anecdote whose life was changed because they had a similar procedure done. Then he told me there wasn't any guarantee his work would help, but he hoped it would- fair enough. Most any procedure comes with that caveat. I was then left to wait for another chunk of time for the NICO instructions and itemized procedure costs. IV sedation was part of the cost, even though I said no. Again, but this time by the hygienist, I was pressured to use sedation. I was also asked 4 times to schedule the procedure despite answering each time that I wanted to review the list and think about my options. I won't be entrusting my dental health to this dentist office. I find it odd to pressure a patient into medically uneccessary IV sedation, or that my simple questions about having a potential dental infection cannot be clearly answered. Nor do I think it is good practice to pressure patients to schedule and pay for procedures at all, let alone quickly, when there has not been any evidence from the two sets of X-rays and exam that they are even medically necessary. read more

Dr. Homanfar has been my families dentist in Reno, Nv. for 14 years. He is absolutely amazing. I have in the last 14 years lived in a few places but always come back to Dr. Ramin Homanfar for my dental work. I am glad we are back living in Reno so we don't have to travel to see him. He always treats us like family and is patient, funny and very gentle. I have and continue to recommend Dr. Homanfar as one of the most qualified top dentist in Reno, Nevada and in my opinion in the nation. Also his staff is always top notch. They all work together very well and you can tell he truly cares about them because everyone is always in a good mood. So I went to the dentist got my tooth extracted it filled and a 3-D x-ray cost me around $1700 I paid in full and they send me a bill for $500. 7 months later with zero explanation not even so much as a date of service I called them three times left messages finally got a hold of them on my lunch break and had them send me an itemized bill. It was missing a payment of $680 so it turns out I overpaid according to the bill I wonder how long it will take them to pay me back? I don't appreciate the stress that I feel when I am told there's a bill hanging over my head. Why did it take seven months to send me a false bill? I've been recommending this office to all my friends and family I don't think I'll be doing that anymore and I hope they don't have the same experience I do. I will follow up once they are made aware that I've overpaid and see how it goes trying to get my refund. I do want to say however Dr. Holmanfar was wonderful and very knowledgeable and I appreciate his time and experience. read more

My husband and I both had multiple appointments with Dr.Homanfar back in 2012. We both needed a root canal and a couple fillings. We did not get the cleaning we were told would happen during the fillings under sedation because the hygienist called out. We paid $6000 total for my root canal, 3 fillings and sedation. My husband had 2 fillings and a crown also with sedation. Both of us were not given the proper amount of sedation and woke up during the procedures. Dr.Homanfar sedates multiple patients at once and bounces between rooms. He rushed through all of our appointments. The reason we had chose his office was the "Sleep" dentist advertising due to our anxiety issues. Today I'm having the root canal tooth pulled due to Dr.Homanfar not removing all the decay. I had even told him I was still feeling pain/sensitivity in that tooth and he said that would pass and was not concerned. So that's $2000 in the trash. My husbands crown was put on crooked and cracked the tooth below it. Most likely that will also be pulled. Unfortunately we had moved out of Nevada before finding out what a waste of time and money it was to go to this supposed "Sleep Dentist". Do not give this man business. read more

You really might want to skip this place. I had some major headaches. First off the dentist was just quite a tad condescending to females, even to his own staff right in front of the customers. Second off I was sent a bill after I had paid my share AND my insurance had also paid. No balance left over for them, yet they wanted me to pay them off twice. Is it fair for them to try to rip me off? Thirdly, I had an appointment for a simple cleaning. I was told the hygenist was running late could I come back another day?? I was miffed said no way I'll just wait. The surly yet scantily clad receptionist acted like this was no big deal. Hold on a sec so let me get this right, I'M expected to cancel with in 48 hours, this is a commen courtesy that some dentists will even charge you for if you do not give adequate notice, some 50$ per expected hour of your appointment! More the disparity that just because the hygenists running late then my appointment can be cancelled while I'm sitting in the waiting room?? Waiting thirty minutes past my scheduled appointment? I wouldn't have minded a ten or even 15 minute lag as long as it was acknowledged as their fault! No apologies were given. Fourthly, though he worked fast and seemed thorough with the filling. I have had reoccurring toothaches thst I thought would go away after a week or two, but which has lasted for months. I could not believe the gall of this places employees. Quite the cast of charecters the Dentist has hired to represent his business is all I gotta say. A waste of my time and money. The Dentists has what I percieved as a bourgeois attitude with his (almost) in exclusive South Reno location. This fact alone has no bearing on him being a good or even decent dentist. He also has used a publicist for his social media which has fake reviews and positive feedback thats been bought. I found this out myself by looking at his YOU Tube channel. He is NOT the worst dentist I'd been to in Reno but thats not saying much. A lot of quacks here. He's not quite the Dentist played in Steve Martin's iconic role, still he's close enough, so keep on looking. read more

My wife has had some unique dental issues that others dentists have not been able to address. We went to Ramin Homanfar because he advertises that he is a holistic dentist and we were hoping for a doctor that might have a new approach or insight to alternative treatments that are not available from other practitioners. He barely looked in her mouth. He was done examining her before the assistant finished moving the light over for him to see! He was dismissive towards her concerns and wouldn't even look at the CT scan we brought with us in hopes that he could see something other dentists had missed. He said that he was skilled in how to look at CT scans to find infections, so I asked him 3 times to look at the scan and he kept changing the subject. We became frustrated and asked him what it means to be a holistic dentist and what makes him different from other dentists. His first response was "What, should I dress differently or something?" He listed some things that he thinks makes him unique, but we have been to 3 other dentists that do the same things and they don't advertise themselves as being holistic. If you're looking for a run of the mill dentist, then he could be for you, but if you're looking for any kind of alternative dentistry, then go to someone else, because their is nothing special about this guy. I can name several other "run of the mill" dentists that could put this guy to shame and could add "holistic" to their credentials based on what Ramin considers special about himself. The most interesting thing he said was a story he told of a former patient picketing outside his office because she thought he scammed her. That was the nail, we left. read more
