The staff including Brooke and Cassandra were very thorough explaining costs for care plan, and timeline for the completion of the procedure. Overcharging customers. Not fulfilling Delta Dental contractual obligations. Being dishonest. Failing to send statements then threatening suspension of service. After 10 years of using Kwong, I discovered that they were overcharging me. Out of pocket is $74 for routine cleaning after insurance coverage is maxed out. They insisted on $263. After informing them of this, they doubled down and refused to see me. I filed a grievance with Delta and there will be an investigation. Kwong's rep falsely claimed they contacted Delta to confirm coverage, but Delta's records revealed no such call was made. This wasn't the only incident. Previously,they failed to send me monthly statements. This happened when during installing my implant he realized he needed to drill through into the sinus cavity. I had been prepared to pay the original $1200 amount, but the bill increased by several hundred dollars while sitting in the exam chair and wasn't told this until I approached the front desk to pay the bill. I didn't have the money so I asked if I could be billed and they said yes. Then after failing to receive bills I contacted them. They sent one, which I paid, then stopped again, then began texting me threats to suspend service and send me to collections. How can I make payments if no online payment service is available and you refuse to mail statements?? Then they claimed "lost mail" was the cause, even though I had already paid thousands and have been using them for over a decade. Several months of mail lost? At the same address as since I began using them? Ridiculous. Contradictory to that, they also claimed "we don't send bills." Make up your mind. Stick to agreements! Be honorable! When I told them this in person, they told me to leave. "You're making me uncomfortable," she said. I bet I am! Your other customers are hearing what you're doing to them. I never raised my voice or became threatening, but I was visibly shaken at their attitude. You cannot be unfaithful and dishonest with your customers, gaslighting them in front of others, and expect someone to remain stoic. It's embarrassing and makes me out to look like a dishonest fool. After years of faithful patronage, a customer deserves more, and Dr. Kwong himself agreed with me when I brought this up to him. He told me he didn't want to lose me as a patient. Dr. Kwong himself is amazing. He is of the utmost professional caliber. His service has always been top-notch. Multiple surgeries and procedures. Always available on-call, prescriptions written in a timely manner, and I have always loved and enjoyed his humor and friendliness. Here he is allowing me to record him doing a tooth extraction. But Kwong's billing team has caused him to lose a customer, who now refuse to see me because they will not fess up to their mistakes. The Delta rep said it was probably out of pride. Doesn't matter. Business needs to be conducted honestly, fairly and professionally, even beyond the operating chair. Now they're being investigated. Delta covers all of Tesla's employees, so hopefully this doesn't come to bite Kwong's practice in the butt. Very unfortunate. read more

As a dental professional myself for almost 40 years here is an honest review. Our 21 year old son went in for X-rays, exam and healthy mouth cleaning. He has never had a cavity and gets his teeth cleaned 3x a year. Between the Dr. and hygienist they told him needed a deep cleaning amongst other work which was all completely unnecessary and obviously not covered by his insurance. I personally reviewed my son's X-rays and in no way shape or form is he in need of a deep cleaning. If this office is not satisfied with Delta Dental fees, upselling the patient is not the ethical answer. The answer (as a dental professional) is to not be a contracted provider for said insurance. I've found my new dentist! This was my second visit with Dr. Kwong's office and although I liked them during my first visit, I wanted to wait until I've completed my second. I've got to say that my initial impression was right, Dr. Kwong and his staff are exactly what I've been looking for in a dental office. Dr. Kwong is personable and his technique is gentle yet thorough - believe me, I sat through almost 2 hours of he and his assistant (I believe her name is Jasmine) prepping a tooth for a crown and although such a procedure is never fun, Dr. Kwong made it as comfortable as possible; and both he and Jasmine kept checking on me to see if I was ok. The experience was topped off by another assistant, Amber, working diligently to prepare and fit my temporary crown. An overall positive experience! First the good. I had my teeth cleaned better and more effectively than ever before. Now the bad. I had an appointment scheduled to get some serious work done. It would total, if completed over $2k. I realized before my session that required novocaine that I had not requested valium (or it's equivalent). I now need it whenever I have a procedure that requires drilling due to a childhood incident with a dentist at age 8. What that dude did would be considered criminal these days! I found one left over valium in a prescription bottle that another dentist had used. I brought it over with me to Dr. Kwong's office. I asked when I should take it given I had arrived early. I was told a few things: 1. I had to pay in advance and sign some forms before I could take the valium I had with me. ODD. 2. I was then told that I had to pay an additional fee (not sure for what???) of $150 to use my own valium and then get the treatment. I could forgo the $150 if I were to get my previous dentist to provide a note regarding the fact that I needed a sedative when I get procedures like this done. I've changed dentists before and never had a problem with them prescribing me 1-2 tablets of valium before any of the procedures I've had done that required drilling. All of these previous dentists have been in the state of Nevada as well. The manner in which this was handled gave me pause and made it so I would not like to return to this office. I met and spoke with Dr. Kwong on my initial cleaning visit. He seemed knowledgeable and professional. When I suggested to his staff that he called me, he refused. I would not have. I would have gotten on the phone and had a discussion with me to explain his point of view. Avoiding a direct conversation with a customer makes no sense. BUT, then again, this is NOT my business, I have my own business that I handle VERY differently. Just the facts here, no embellishment. read more

Not only did Kwong explain everything in deep yet understandable detail, he also shared his expertise on certain implementations and procedures he is looking into performing on my wife and I, with affordable cost. After years of not being able to go to the dentist, I came to Kwong Dental Care and was provided with amazing and welcoming service. After my first appointment, I was informed of the recommended next steps in my dental care journey, as well as a breakdown of costs. The ladies in the front office are more than patient with scheduling around my complicated work schedule, and spread the recommended procedures over two months to accommodate my schedule and budget. I had all four wisdom teeth removed this past week, all four severely impacted. I was well informed of what the procedure would be like, and provided with great aftercare instructions and prescriptions. Dr. Kwong stayed in contact and got me in early the following week after hearing my concerns just to check on me and ease my mind. So I feel like they can't be trusted: They raised their prices, but (go-figure) I found out AFTER the cleaning was already completed. I mean, seriously? That's basically entrapment. It really is. I'm not sure what exact services were raised besides the one I had done, but it was raised by around 25%, which is enough for me to take time out of my day and write a bad review. Because I feel like I was worked over (it's because I was). I mean, if you're going to raise your prices, go for it, but tell every customer BEFORE you begin working on them and finish to be like, "That comes out to XXX." The other thing is that I called them out on it asking because the price didn't sound correct, and then they said they had raised the prices. So unless I was unaware of what I had paid last time, they would have never said anything. Stuff like this really ticks me off. read more

I simply cannot recommend Dr. Kwong and the amazing staff at Kwong Dental Care enough, especially if you have had bad experiences with previous dentists and have trepidation or anxiety about sitting in that seemingly foreboding torture chair... Strong, healthy teeth don't quite run in my family. From a young age, I always had cavities, even though I didn't eat that much sugar. I had a few horrifying root canals in my late teens that gave me dental anxiety. It wasn't just the discomfort of the procedure that petrified me, it was the judgement from the staff and the subsequent shame I felt afterwards that ruined my relationship with dentistry at large. And then in my 20's, I never had insurance so I couldn't even access a dentist. As time marched on, I became in increasing need of dental care yet without resources, it just gave me even more anxiety about dentistry. I was pretty nervous walking into Kwong Dental Care for the first time, but I was comforted the moment I walked the front door. Instead of white walls, magazines, silence and a fish tank, my senses were greeted by calming blue walls, soft music playing, a lavender oil diffuser, and a large HDTV with soothing nature videos playing. Every member of the team here is genuine, caring, and not judgemental. My Hygienist was practically an angel- so gentle, minimizing my discomfort as much as possible. One of the worst parts of dental work is getting that first shot of Novocain...Dr. Kwong's Novocain technique is practically painless, and the first time I have ever had such a minimally painful time in the chair. The office staff is GREAT about tracking insurance, and I have had no worries about being scheduled too soon for work I can't yet pay for. I really appreciate that they print out a hard copy of your care plan, so you can financially plan your work, and not be thrown off much on expected costs. I have many more hours of dentistry ahead of me, but I couldn't have picked a better practice to spend those hours in than Kwong Dental Care. read more

Okay... let me just start with applauding Dr. Kwong. You're amazing!!! I came here for my first visit to get a cleaning. When I first walked inside, I immediately noticed how good looking the office was. I had my cleaning done and rescheduled for some fillings. I had those done yesterday, and I have never had such a painless dental experience in my life. When I was getting the needles to get numb, I swear, I did not even feel the slightest littlest tiny pinch at all. It was 100% painless. Which has never happened to me before. I usually have a pretty high tolerance, but I did not feel a thing. The process was also painless. I had a couple old fillings removed and replaced. I did not feel a thing. I don't have a single complaint for this office. They are great, and I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend. Not only is Dr. Kwong great, but so are his staff. These wonderful ladies are kind, sweet, and do a great job at making you feel comfortable. Not only did Dr. Kwong and Amber do a fantastic job on my fillings, but he also lined up my teeth a little bit more from when I had braces and perfected my smile for me. I have never been in an office that gave me a pillow for my legs, lower back, and neck. Like I said, they have my full support. If I could rate them a 12/10 I would. I honestly don't even know where to begin with Dr. Kwong and his staff. Ever since my late teens, I was consistently told by multiple dentists that I would need a full upper denture and that my teeth were irreparable. Dr. Kwong showed me that wasn't at all the case. At 30 years old (last year), I was given the gift of the most beautiful smile I have ever seen on myself -- even when my teeth/gums WERE healthy post-braces when I was young. Never have I met a dentist with such an amazing bedside manner. I love and appreciate the fact that he doesn't lecture his patients about their oral hygiene and/or make anyone feel poorly about themselves. I truly believe that's a huge part of the reason why patients choose not to go back to see a dentist for years and years at a time. Dr. Kwong always has me laughing while in his chair. He's a truly funny and personable guy. He is not just an amazing doctor, but an amazing human being. He has truly become "family" to my husband and I. No longer do I fear going to the dentist; in fact, I actually look forward to coming in for work because I know it will be painless and a pleasant experience. I saw a couple of reviews on here with complaints regarding how long the appointments took while these patients were in the chair, which honestly baffled me. Dr. Kwong prides himself in being a perfectionist when it comes to his work (and it shows in such positive ways). If there's anything I've learned from hours in the chair with Dr. Kwong, it's that dentistry isn't just a profession; it is truly an art form. When you have work that needs to be done, I implore you all to ask yourself the following: "Is spending x amount of extra time in the chair worth having a positive lasting impact on my oral hygiene and the aesthetics of my mouth?" If your answer is still "no," then perhaps Dr. Kwong isn't the dentist for you. But rest assured, your conscious decision to not see him again won't be hurting anyone but yourself. Oh, and if you're a needlephobe like me, just ask Dr. Kwong for the "bloop" when he goes to give you the Novocain injections. My experience with Dr. Kwong's office was unsettling. The office was very unprofessional. The receptionist/hygienist/billing person, I found out was the girlfriend of Dr. Kwong. I was very uncomfortable and apprehensive from the beginning. I should've listened to the voice inside my head and ran out of there, but I didn't and ended up very disappointed and felt very let down. The visit was my first, and last. The appt. was for a general cleaning/check up. I love having my teeth cleaned, however, the particular office uses the high powered water pic type (which I don't like). So Dr. Kwong started to do the hand scaling himself, but maybe 5 minutes into it he called his receptionist/hygienist/billing person into finish the job, he seemed annoyed. I was soaking wet from the water they used to rinse my mouth. It was absolutely crazy!!! I have never left a dentist that wet! After the "hygienist" was done with my "cleaning" she helped me check out without a pause. Ugh! Nooooo! He also had recommended alot of work, like I've read other ppl complain of. I ran back to the previous dentist I had seen, and he assured me by telling me all the recommended work was unnecessary, (except one crown that I already knew of). So get a second opinion! Dr.Kwong is the best local dentist. His techniques and equipments are modern,state of the art. As a new patient, I called his office one morning to set an appointment for a toothache (an impacted wisdom tooth) and they were able to see me that same day. Fast forward, I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted by Kwong in one appointment and the procedure was about 2 out of 10 on the pain chart (10 as extremely painful), very relaxed (Dr. Kwong is humorous, as well as his staff) and efficient ( on-time and right to business). Overall, a dentist who is knowledgable and trustworthy. Highly recommend dr.kwong to anyone with any type of dental concerns. A dentist that is always working is Dr. Kwong. I bought a groupon for a cleaning and X-rays. No problems scheduling and canceling. My appointment was super fast, they do not spread themselves out too thin with too many patients and make you wait. Office staff is so friendly and Dr. Kwong is a funny nice guy, who knows what he is doing. I had such a great experience that I took my mom to see Dr. Kwong. Her mouth was a wreck and infected. He wanted to fix the problem immediately and worked on her til 7pm. He scheduled us to come back the next day to make sure everything was doing okay after the swelling went down. This was a month ago and she is doing great now. My mom does not have insurance and they worked with her. They provide their own insurance in the office, which brought the bill down a lot. We will be heading back for more X-rays next week to make sure all is well, but overall the best dental experience ever for my mom and myself. read more

My last review of Kwong Dental Care was for my wife. As of now, I too am officially a patient and now can give my own perspective. This is a second review - two years later, and Kwong Dental Care holds up. I'm not going to lie. I haven't taken very good care of my teeth over the years. That, and bad genes coupled with some bad luck have put me in a couple of painful positions when it comes to dentistry. I haven't had the best of luck with Dentists either for various reasons which I won't get into. Believe me when I say that Dr. Kwong is the real deal. We're about the same age, so he doesn't suffer from the old school mentality of "make you feel like garbage" for not taking care of your teeth. Listen, many of us who have the issues we have know that they are self-afflicted, and we're trying to be better. Well, Dr. Kwong is the best hype man you can find to that end. His staff is amazing too. I had a rough extraction because of the lack of care I gave to one of my molars. Despite this process taking multiple hours and being exhausting -- Dr. Kwong always kept me engaged. Laughing, talking (well, mumbling anyway haha), and it didn't feel as if it took that long. That's because he's legitimately a decent human being. I've been to dentists across the country from Virginia to Nevada and have seen some of the worst this field has to offer. This gentleman rekindled my hope in not only the field, but myself/my teeth. I cannot recommend Kwong Dental Care enough. He's real with me. He goes over options with me. He listens to what I want to accomplish and doesn't try to force anything. I've never had that experience with him, nor has my wife, in over two years. The staff is unbelievably accommodating, friendly and fun to talk to. When I go there, I feel as though I'm catching up with friends -- due in no small part to their own adept ability to treat others with decency. I love this dentist. I rave about him to everyone I know. I've had some bad experiences at other dentists where your appointment is only with a hygenist and the actual dentist shows up for about 25 seconds, barely looks you in the eye, and leaves before you can ask a question (literally). Not the case here! Dr. Kwong is the guy to go to if you want your procedures and tooth issues explained clearly and slowly. During my first appointment with him I had quite a few questions about issues with fillings done at the above dentist who shall-not-be-named here. Kwong has super high-tech 3D xrays that were super helpful and he sat down with me for probably half an hour to explain everything that was going on. Maybe it was a slow day for him, but I left that appointment smiling because I FINALLY found a dentist who really cared, and wasn't overbooking himself so he was in a rush. Since then I needed emergency wisdom tooth extraction, and Dr. Kwong fit me in at 7PM at night so I didn't have to endure another day of suffering. My teenage sons and I have been patients of Dr. Kwong's for a couple of years, when we bought Groupons for cleanings and x-rays. Dr. Kwong is awesome. He is patient and listens well. He explains all procedures prior to doing them, and as he is working on you he explains what he is doing. His staff is wonderful too. He offers a payment plan and also for $200 you can buy the dental insurance which covers 2 cleanings a year, x-rays and a discount on any other work he does. I wouldn't go anywhere else now and would recommend Dr. Kwong to anyone in Reno looking for a dentist. Yesterday I broke a tooth, and went to Dr. Kwong without an appointment. I have never had a cavity in my life and no real dental work so all I really come in for is cleanings. Due to this every dentist office I have seen has been great unless they don't take insurance (cough. Sierra similes), screw up my appointment,or have terrible customer service (cough. absolute dental has the worst customer service in town). I should add that my significant other did not like this place and he did have cavities. He liked the dentist but they sent him 3 or 4 different bills and just had trouble with his insurance. It was extremely confusing and a huge hassle for him. I reminded my SO that some dentists won't even deal with hassle of insurance and just expect cash like sierra smiles did. He decided to stay with Dr. Kwong since he liked the guy. The final straw for my SO was when he called to make an appointment for a cleaning and the office said they had no openings and when I called later that day for a cleaning appointment for the same time, they made room for me for the day we wanted. He just felt like the office didn't want him as a patient so he switched dentists. Meh, I'll stick with Dr. Kwong. He is nice, I like the convenient location (right by midtown/southwest area) and the occasional weekend appointment he sets up. As long as my teeth stay out of trouble and they don't have to deal with any complicated billing and they hook me up with convenient appointments, I would rather not switch although I can see why my SO who does have complicated billing and they were not as flexible with his appointments did want to switch but he hasn't been happy at the new place either. Finding a combination of great customer service, proper insurance billing knowledge, and a good dentist is really tough in this town. Kwong has 2/3 and in my case with my simple only charging cleanings to my insurancae, the third point ( insurance billing knowledge) is irrelevant. read more

I've been a patient here for a few years, but with the way I avoid the dentist that means just a few cleanings. The cleanings, x-rays, and dentist consults were all fine. Nothing to rave about or complain about - occasionally great, occasionally not so great. A couple days ago I went in for extraction of four wisdom teeth. I kept telling myself I was calm and everything was going fine, but my body wasn't buying it and was trembling uncontrollably through most of the extraction. Dr. Kwong and his assistant were so compassionate. They took breaks for us all to breath together and gave lots of encouragement and reassurance. I've been seeing Dr. kwong for 3 years. He replaced all 7 of my old metal fillings with 3 crowns and 1 large filling. I have also had my teeth whitened and I've had around 4-5 cleanings. My teeth look and feel great! The staff is really friendly. The facility is very clean. I love that his office is down town and easy to get to. Dr. Kwong is an amazing dentist! He managed to fit me in for a cleaning and never once did i feel that he or any of his other staff were judgemental that i have not been to any dentist in over 15 years. In fact, quite the opposite, there was a fun and friendly energy throughout the entire process! I also had my wisdom teeth removed and while i was nervous as hell, Dr. Kwong and his assistant joked with me and laughed with me until the procedure was done! 10/10 i'm a Kwong Lifer now! I will also mention that he did both the cleaning and the wisdom teeth extraction on the same day just so that i could use my insurance before i left my previous job, his team saved me a boatload of money! Ok, where to start?! Being afraid of dentists as much as I was, I can tell you that now I can go there every single day: everyboby in the office, including Dr.Kwong is super nice, the most innovative technology (I even got to see my crown being done!!!), the overall atmosphere is awesome-water, coffee, music, and Oh, since I was so scarred, they would even sing for me, no joke!!! Please beware. I had chipped a small piece of a back molar off and my regular dentist was on vacation so a friend recommended Dr. Kwong. When I went for my consultation, they recommended extensive work for multiple teeth. I've never had more than a couple fillings so I was very surprised. He said that he would do one of 3 things for my chipped tooth: a filling, a crown or worst case scenario, extract it. When I came for my appointment to fix the broken tooth, he decided within the first 5 minutes that he needed to extract it. I went along with it especially because he said "extractions were his specialty." Fast forward to 4 HOURS into the appointment, my whole body was shaking with anxiety and I was crying. He still couldn't get the tooth out. I finally just had to get the hell out of there. It was right before Labor Day weekend so I had to suffer with a broken loose tooth for 4 days before I got into an oral surgeon to remove it, which maybe took him 10 minutes. The oral surgeon also received my "before" x-rays and said it didn't have to be removed in the first place but because of the damage that Dr. Kwong caused, there was nothing to do to save it. Dr. Kwong and his staff were very nice, but I'm now having to deal with not having a tooth because he felt like trying to pull it. I just felt the need to put this out there so no one else has to go through what I did. One of the worst experiences of my life. read more
