This is the nicest golf course in all of Borrego Springs, the course has incredible views of the entire valley. This contrast of the bright green with the desert is simply awesome. I just did a two night stay and play golf weekend. Until we arrived, I did not know that they were having a water issue. The fairways were not in good shape for a $150 golf course; many dead areas that were unplayable. I sure hope that they are able to get a handle on this. I love this place but right now the fairways are in terrible shape. This place used to be a hidden gem but now outside of the greens, it's turning into a dump. I came here so I wouldn't have to play on punched greens at my home club but that was a bad call. $200+ a round in the condition it was is a joke. I had the pleasure of playing this Spectacular 5 Star Tom Fazio Golf course this weekend.... It started w/ Steven at the bar who was just first class in every way and a a joy to speak with . Now on to the golf shop and staff... I can see why Bob is the Head Golf Professional. His level of customer service was above and beyond. He's a true gem of what service is all about. As a person who not only worked in the golf industry but also in the hotel industry ( Hyatt & Sheraton for 15 yrs). I believe I know what great not good customer service should be Your staff does a fabulous job. And that is where people will not only talk about the Golf features , but also about how the staff treated you ... hence 5 Star Rating !!! This used to be our go-to for a nice meal when in town, but no more. The place is magnificent and the course looked in great condition, unfortunately the restaurant let the side down. Flies everywhere and a overhead fan that did not work was a poor start. The service was fine but my meal was fit for the trash, and I think that is where they scooped it from. I ordered a cobb salad. it seems to have been pre-prepared, several days ago. What I got was a mush of tiny pieces of rotten lettuce with brown edges, pre mixed with small pieces of mushy chicken/egg/blue cheese all pre mixed and smothered with sauce. it looked like it had just been poured out of a plastic container and half a (very small) avocado plonked in the top. I hate writing this review... Rams hill, what happened?!?!?! I have been a loyal first tracks weekend participant for the past 3 years and the steady decline has me questioning my return next year. I brought 7 guys with me this year. I have been telling them for months how awesome this weekend was only to have to spend the entire weekend apologizing(not something I enjoyed). The Food is still amazing, the staff that has been there for years are INCREDIBLE, everything else was worse than your local course... Greens were meh, Tee boxes were torn up (Day 1), they moved only 4-6 of the pin locations once in 3 days of playing, Carts died on the course, some areas were burnt while others so wet you couldn't walk through them, there was ZERO excitement for the opening weekend (Unlike previous years) They chased away their grounds keeper and that was a huge mistake. All of the magic in this place is gone and I can only surmise that they are chasing Money... if you are a destination golf course where the literal only thing to do is golf and stargaze, you better get the golf right. I'm so sad writing this, because this was a magical trip the past 2 years and this year it totally sucked. read more

Great great Golf Course overall! The views are stunning as the mountains appear so majestic from every hole. Very well manicured fairways and greens. A lot of unique details on this course such as driving over a small amount of running water when you get close to the restaurant. The new Superintendent seems very knowledgeable and friendly. He approached us and asked how our day was going and how we liked the course. I can tell you this course will only get better with him at the helm now. Keep up the good work!! Where shall I begin? From the moment we drove up to the gates, we knew we were in for something special. Rams Hill has resurrected a beautiful Fazio course and surpassed even it's original glory. This course is nothing short of spectacular, from top to bottom. We were greeted by the starter (Mike) who welcomed us and insured we knew our way around. He was approachable and friendly, as every starter should be - as the beginning of your round is important! We rolled into the pro-shop and got checked in with Jasper, such a good fellow. We had some miscommunication about a gift certificate we presented, but it ended up being dealt with in a very professional manner by the golf director, Mike Setchell. Rams Hill is clearly run by a top notch staff - who makes sure your experience there is a good one. The course is in perfect shape, well groomed and wide-open fairways, just the right amount of hazards, immaculate greens, native surroundings and scents of the desert abound. This course is heaven on Earth for golfers. It's rated #3 course in California - and rightfully so. It's a pleasure to have a course like this within just an hour drive. We finished up our round at the restaurant/bar and were served by Hailee. She was an absolute pleasure. She guided us straight to the burger, as it was burger night and we had just beat the local rush. The cocktails were delicious, beer ice cold and burgers were cooked to perfection and served with all the accoutrements. It was the perfect finish to our day. Rams Hill is a must for any avid golfer. Visiting my dad for our annual week long golf adventure in the desert and this was the first course we played. It is going to be hard for the other courses to match up to the sheer beauty of this course. Every hole is laid out to provide magnificent views of the Anza Borrego Valley while providing enough of a challenge to make the course fun, but not frustrating to the casual golfer. I have played quite a few golf courses, mostly in the Pacific Northwest, and this one by far was the most fun round of golf I have every played. From the time we drove up until the time we came back in after our round, every attention to detail was given by their staff. It was easy to see why this was recently voted the best course in the US. read more

I have been playing golf for 50 years and it does not get any better than Rams Hill. On a good day, you can hear your ball land on the green from 150 yards. On a windy day, just pretend you are in Ireland and man up. Driving range is awesome, Restaurant is awesome, Staff is awesome. Play 18 conservatively. read more

Played May 5th 2022. About 4 years ago Rams Hill changed management and the golf course has gotten worse year over year. The course is in such poor shape I don't know if they will even be open next year. You can't run a successful business like this. The price is over $150.00 weekdays and over $200.00 Fri thru Sunday. Can't beat the Fazio designed course. Holes look short but the design allows for trouble at every shot. The views of Borrego Springs are fabulous as you work your way up and back down the course. A cookie after 18 and the Tacos at the turn make it even more fun. We go early to have a meal on the patio before we play. Practice facilities are nice as well. It's nice to play in Borrego Springs and avoid the crowded courses in Palm Springs area. read more

The greens were fantastic, but most all of the fairways had so many dead, dry grass areas that no doubt we were very disappointed. Been coming here for a winter round or two from la Quinta, and always enjoyed the layout and conditioning. Staff terrific. HOWEVER, this year the fairways on many holes were in trouble - one staffer said it was a fungus, another said it was the salinity of the irrigation well water. Spots bare, some saturated, and only 3-4 fairways in good shape. So hope they can fix the issue as summer approaches. Oddly, on two or three holes the cart diversion signs were over 150 yards out. That slows play and is crazy. Will check the conditions before heading to RHill next year. Too bad, 'cause the layout and facility are fine. read more

Played Rams Hill the week of February 1-5. Both rounds were were enjoyable. However for a destination resort golf course the fairways were very poorly maintained areas of dry grass mud having to lift clean and place "". STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY! Four of us from Denver did a stay and play at Rams Hill expecting three days of a fun filled, quality golf experience. What a disappointment! First, the course and grounds are very well maintained and groomed. The staff is very friendly. No complaints there. The problem is their greens are horrible! These are the absolute worst greens I have ever played on. They are extremely fast, which for a resort is pretty dumb, but the worst part is they will not hold a shot! I'm a pretty decent golfer so when a hit a 9 iron high in the air and it lands on the front of the green and rolls off the back, that's not fun. In three days, none of the four of us had to fix a ball mark on the green, That's how stupid hard they were. If you like to chip up to greens on every hole, or like to try and run a ball up to the green, or like to 3 and 4 putt, if you like to putt on your driveway, then this course is for you. If you like to play golf the way it is meant to be played, then do yourself a favor and stay in Palm Springs or San Diego and enjoy yourself. We were told that they have so many complaints that they are tearing out all the greens over the next two years. A lot of good that did us. Then on top of that, this is supposed to be a resort, and the restaurant was not open for dinner! Borrego Springs is no metropolis and we had to leave the resort every evening to find a place to eat dinner and there are not a lot of choices. Finally, to add insult to injury, when I complained about our experience, their offer to compensate us was to offer a free round of golf! So I just ripped your course, told you what a horrible experience we had and your offer was to return from Denver and play your horrible course again? Not only is this comical it's an insult! read more

I love love love this course! Every time I play here, from start to finish the golf course employees are top notch! The pro inside was the biggest, sweetheart! She was so helpful and full of cheer! She seemed genuinely happy that we were there. We went to the driving range and the Marshall asked if we wanted to play by ourselves which was so over the top thoughtful as he told me, he knows ladies that play with their spouses usually prefer to not to get paired up if they don't have to. That made me feel so relieved. I didn't catch his name but he drives around with clubs in the back of his cart! He was a doll. The course was in excellent shape. We encountered the gal at the Ram shack, she was so bubbly and sweet! At the conclusion of our round a black haired cart attendant took care of our clubs. He was super interactive with us, asked all about our round, where we lived, didn't rush us and gave us each a cookie. He was very polite! We will be back next month, I can't wait! We did a Stay and Play golf package for 2 nights at Rams hill. We golfed 2 days on a beautiful course. The course was amazing from the open, green fairways, to the lush greens and wonderful. The layout is so you are not side by side on almost any hole. The outdoor patio was open and heated for snacks and drinks, with a scenic view. Will and Amy were extremely helpful from start to finish. Will was very accommodating to book with and both were available to answer my 100 questions. Amy even showed us around when we got there. Kimberly and Rachel in the golf shop were friendly and very helpful as was the entire staff. A fantastic experience. read more

We played the course last week. It was in EXTREMELY poor condition. When booking the tee time, no one told us about the condition. The fairways had many bare spots, blotchy grass, mud, etc. The greens were bumpy and slow. We had to clean lift and place everywhere. Not a good experience for traveling to a remote location in the desert , and paying $145 green fee. Really? When mentioning to the staff, they simply said they had seeding issues as a result of weather conditions. All excuses, no customer sensitivity. read more

I'd give the course and pro shop 6 stars if I could, food 5 stars but the service 1 star in restaurant. 10 of us sat out on patio on New Years Eve day after golf and nobody waited on us. One of our group members went in to ask if we could have a waitress and after he went back out to our table, another one in our group, coming back from restroom overheard bartender bitching about us, still no waitress or waiter. We are all businessmen that belong to various country clubs in SoCal and couldn't believe the lack of service in spite of our asking. After 15 minutes, we got up and left! However, don't let this less than 5 star review dissuade you from going. Golf and food are awesome! read more

Get out there and play now, the course is phenomenal. Not much to say about the conditioning since everything was perfect. Greens are pure, no ball marks whatsoever. Fairways like carpet. Traps nice fluffy sand without being too soft. They are still doing work on the clubhouse area but who cares, we were there to golf not sit on the patio. However, when completed it should be amazing. We played the blues at around 6400 yds with handicaps ranging from 7.5-20 and all enjoyed the course. Always hesitant to take high handicappers to desert courses since they can be tight and overly penal. Not Rams Hill, wide fairways with desert that you could recover from if you went that far right or left. Greenside bunkers and the greens were challenging but fair. Can be stretched to 7500 yds which would test anybody. At $75 for an early twilight we'll most definitely be back. It is worth $150 but not with a 1.5 hr drive. If it were in San Diego proper it would be $200+ rack rates (just played Aviara and I'd choose Rams Hill), in Borrego it should be priced at $100 rack rate with deals to be had. It was one of those courses where you don't want the round to end. Get on it! read more

Course is in amazing condition. A group of us who work at a golf company went out there today and played for a great rate. We all have played quite a bit of golf, and I will tell you what. This course is in the best shape that I've seen a course in. The layout of the course is challenging, yet very forgiving for those high handicappers who can spray it from time to time. Most of us live in San Diego so it was a quick 1 1/2 drive over. If you ever have a chance to play here I highly suggest making the trip. The service in the pro shop and on the course is hands down a step above. I will definitely be returning. Job well done to the new owners!! read more

My wife and I played the course recently as part of a golf package. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The course is superbly maintained. Tees, fairways, bunkers and greens are all impeccable. Much better condition than some other courses I've played that are 2-3 times more expensive. I would have given the course 5 stars except for one issue. It appeared that they let a sadist cut the pins. The greens were rolling at about 12 on the stimp and many pins were set a couple of feet from drop offs. On the first hole, I chipped up to about 3 feet. The ball stopped, but then started rolling and rolled 30 feet and off the green. Several other holes were set up very close to the edge of the green. The greens were so fast and the slope so severe that there was no need to trick it up with ridiculous pin placements. The above comments notwithstanding, you should play this course if you have the chance. Great Fazio layout in superb condition. read more

Beautiful course in great condition. It was left to die a few years ago but is in very good shape now. Very challenging. It's is surrounded by the most beautiful desert hills. There is peace and the stillness of the desert. The community has elegant homes mixed with small cottages. The roads in good condition although there are side roads that are not. The club house is beautiful with excellent happy hour and amazing sunsets.The restaurant is excellent a bit pricy ( steaks $42) lobster salad was fresh and tasty. An Absolute Hidden Gem and a Must-Play for All Golfers ARRIVING AT RAMS HILL A ~2hr drive from San Diego or LA will take you through striking California terrain before descending steeply down a mountainside into the small town of Borrego Springs. After driving through the town's single roundabout, signs will direct you toward Rams Hill. Right off the bat, the service is top-notch. You will be greeted with a fresh golf cart at your car, so you can load up your gear before checking in at the pro shop. The entire staff is incredibly friendly and seems to take great pride in providing an incredible golf experience. The running joke among the pro shop staff was asking, "Did you manage to have fun out there?" Before your trip to Rams Hill, plan to spend some time there. The restaurant and practice facility are both fantastic, and we found ourselves lounging around before and after we played simply to take in the beautiful, dramatic scenery. THE COURSE It's hard to describe just how impressive the conditions are at Rams Hill. I've had the privilege of playing three times, and the consistently amazing conditions are unmatched (see photos attached). The tee boxes are pure, the fairways are lush, and the greens roll at a quick yet manageable speed. From the first tee box to the 18th green, prepare to have your camera ready because every shot you encounter is a photo opportunity. With mountain ranges lining the horizon and desolate desert surrounding the vibrant green course, every new view is as memorable as the last. The course itself is a golfer's dream. The fairways are large and forgiving, the greens are accessible and undulating, and the contours of the design encourage creative shotmaking to get close to the pin. From the tips, Rams Hill is an absolute beast. But with a nice juxtaposition of short holes (including a drivable par 4) and monster holes (including a 508-yard par 4), it does not play as daunting as the scorecard may suggest. Best of all, each hole feels like it has its own, isolated place within the course--you are simply on that hole at that time with zero distractions. There's not a single hole I would replace on the course. It all comes together as a collective masterpiece in golf course design. AFTER THE ROUND As I mentioned earlier, make some time to hang out after the round. There are not many better places to enjoy a drink after a round than the patio at Rams Hill. You'll still be buzzing from your on-course experience, so take a few moments to soak it all in as the sun sets beyond the mountains. The bottom line: if you have an opportunity to make the drive out to Rams, take it. If you can make a weekend out of it, it will undoubtedly be one of the best golf weekends of your life. Had played here 4-years ago, before it's closure, so I was really anticipating its opening again. The Course was not disappointing & the Greens were fast. What was disappointing were the Green Fees. $150 to play; reduced to $75 after 11am? Give me a break. There are some pretty "hot" tracks in Southern California that charge those rates; more geographically accessible, and this isn't one of them. $75 max during the week, Monday- Thursday, $50 for Seniors; $125 max Weekends & Holidays; better on-line promotions & discounts. Currently too far too drive & too expensive compared to comparable quality courses. No breakfast facilities yet; port-a-poties on back nine non-operational for Women. Staff were great/ helpful & aware of cost complaints! read more

Played Rams Hill May 15th. 6 players paid $142 each. Front 8 holes were fine. Starting on hole 9 there was a 5 group back up because a tournament was in front of us. There was a 20 minute wait on each hole after that. My group of 6 quit after 3 more holes. We paid $852 and didn't even finish. I asked the pro shop for a rain check, but they said no. read more
