This place has great southern comfort food! I got the BBQ Chicken and creamed corn. Now I don't know about you, but I'm not usually a fan of creamed corn. Do not let previous bad experiences with creamed corn stop you from at least trying it here! When you order a dinner you get three sides and I highly recommend you choose creamed corn as a side. It's the perfect consistency and the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. Superbly done. I topped it off with a piece of banana pie. So good! With chocolate on the bottom, lots of bananas and a ton of whip cream, what's not to love?? Btw, portions are VERY generous. Enjoy!! read more

Great local spot! All the locations are equally nice and the food at each one is great. A true southern home cooked meal. We have been coming to Ramsey's most of my life and always love bringing out of town friends here! Veggie plate is a personal favorite of mine but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu! I went here on 8/1 with my best friend from back in the day. I hadn't been in a spell as I live in Tampa now, but goodness! Their menu had something for everyone and when I saw 'hot brown' I knew what to order. It was the best KY Hot Brown I ever had and I make them myself. Ramsey's oh Ramsey's if I could give you 6 stars I would. It's our last day in Kentucky and the whole time we had been looking for fried chicken and didn't find it until a few hours before take off. Everyone in my party had the fried chicken plate. I had a burger (WOW it was delish). I was impressed that there was actually a gluten-free menu. I don't even think I have seen one in Calfiornia like that. Our hostess was very gracious and the ambiance was great. Such nice folks everywhere. I wish they had a Ramsey's in California. But, I will have to wait until I visit the Bluegrass State again. Thank you Ramsey's and your staff for being there when we were in most need of our fried chicken fix. read more

This is the most authentic American country farm style food I have found anywhere. The skillet fried pork sirloin, creamed corn, green beans, and cornbread were unmatched by anyone except my grandmother. The BLT chef salad was a meal for two; and the proportions of the ingredients was perfect. Pie, pie, pie, pie. Peanut butter pie is a disappearing art across the US. Not at Ramsey's. The Mayday pie will bring out the racehorse in you. And all very reasonably priced. read more

Had reservations at Ramsey's on Helmsdale. Table was ready, menus on the table. We were greeted immediately by a server. Food was terrific, service was excellent. Good solid restaurant. I've never been let down no matter what I ordered on the menu. However my only criticism is that of all Lexington chain - type restaurants... overpriced. But like I said, and this is not specific to Ramsey's. Although I don't know this for a fact, my personal belief is that pretty much most of Lexington chain type restaurants get their food, frozen, from most likely the same distributor and simply cook it up a little bit differently. In the end, Ramsey's cooks it up very well but, again, like most Lexington chain - type restaurants, their atmosphere and other things do not justify the price. read more

Great food. Everything tastes homemade from scratch and delicious. I must have been there at the time when they're getting ready for dinner because the staff was more preoccupied with getting ready than with the few customers in the restaurant at the time. Ok, this review is the sum of 2 separate experiences here. First time here I ordered the chicken n dumplings and, unfortunately, I could tell it was canned. I used to get the same exact brand at the grocery. Disappointing for a place for such high reviews. I came back this evening for a family function and decided to get the pot roast dinner with mac and cheese, green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy. The roast was very good. The mac and cheese was a bit bland and needed seasoning and the gravy on the mashed potatoes had an odd taste to it. Overall, I think this restaurant could be so much more if they put a little more effort into the food. Service on both occasions was satisfactory. read more

Ordered the pork chops. When pork chops were cut into they were raw. As you may know pork and chicken raw, can kill you. What did Ramseys do about it? They offered a piece of pie but still charged for the pork chops. What a joke. It's amazing that this was acceptable to them. I nor my family will be back. read more

We ate dinner at Ramsey's Saturday evening and we were very disappointed. The fried green tomatoes were soggy and sticking together; not crispy. Hush puppy's were fried dark brown on the outside, but were "dough balls" on the inside. Catfish appetizer was overlooked and very dry. We would not return. read more

When I first moved to Lexington, I tried Ramsey's and thought it was fun. After a couple of months, I realized it's a whole lot of fried food, and it all tastes the same. The dining experience is nonexistent, with college kids just putting in their time. Recently, I decided to bring pie to a dinner party and came here to get Missy's Pies. THAT experience was a disaster. Each pie was $20 -- pretty steep for such a simple thing. But the purchase process adds insult to injury -- only the bartender can place To Go orders. So I got to wait (and wait) as she took food and drink orders, delivered them, and checked for my pie availability in the back a couple of times. So I spent about 30 minutes waiting to pay for my $60 worth of pies. Trust me -- never again. read more

What a great find! This diner was like walking into my grandmother's dining room with friendly smiles and mismatched furniture. We arrived in the middle of a week day lunch hour and the place was packed. The hostess greeted us with a smile and immediately escorted us to a table towards the back of the restaurant. We no more than sat down and opened our menu when the waitress appeared and took our drink order. The lunch menu had a nice variety...sandwiches, burgers, salads, beans/cornbread, hot open faced sandwiches, and the lunch special was choose one meat and two vegetables from a fairly long list. I selected the lunch special of southern style catfish, kale, and coleslaw. Our meals arrived promptly and warm. The fish was crispy on the outside and not greasy, nice flavor, particularly with the tarter sauce. The coleslaw was fantastic, with a bit of onion flavor. It was a nice compliment to the fish. Pretty good food. Was very busy which is good sign. I had a hot brown which was awesome but a little too rich for my stomach, and there was no tomato? My husband had pork chops (good), coleslaw (awesome), fries, and green beans (said they tasted like his grandmas, awesome). I had mayday pie (delish) and he opted for Apple (good). I was really excited to eat here on our road trip since it had such high reviews. We got there at 5 on a Saturday and the place was packed. We got put on the wait list and it took about 15 minutes to be seated which wasn't bad. I wish they had a bigger area for people waiting to sit, we had to go outside on a bench because there wasn't any room inside to wait. The place was incredibly loud and I couldn't hear the waitress for the life of me. I ordered the yogurt chicken sandwich and thought it was pretty bland and the chicken was dry. The side salad I ordered was fine, but they should really cut the lettuce pieces a little smaller instead of in such massive chunks. Overall a disappointing experience. read more

This is a great place for brunch! The food is great! Quaint setting. Get there early because it does get crowded.

With only vague directions and two conflicting maps, we ended up touring the galaxy in search of the elusive Ramsey's, only to find out, of course, there are multiple locations scattered around the city. All ended very well though with our dinner - we arrived around 7pm or so, and variously ordered meatloaf (meh) and fish (pretty good), and we ordered a selection of vegetables - I enjoyed the fried okra more than others, but we all much enjoyed the fried green tomatoes. Corn seemed to have been a bit overcooked or else 'stewed' keeping warm for a while, but all was OK. Service was OK, but rather slow and lackadaisical, though the waitress was pleasant and cheerful. Ambience was just OK. Most things a little overpriced, I'd say. By far the best part of the meal was the pie - we had raspberry (mousse-like filling), which was extremely nice, and a low sugar black cherry, which I loved--none of that sweet sickly goo that seems to prevail in the traditional restaurant pie. Overall, only a 3, but the pie gets a 5! read more

I'm a local & my family eats here a lot. If you truly want a taste of good southern cooking, try Ramseys. During August & into September you have to try their corn on the cob! They grow their own & it is the most tender, naturally sweet corn we have ever had. Tomatoes are fresh around this same time as well & the choice of veggies at Ramseys...unbelievable selection! We love their pork chops (fried) - they serve 2 large chops plus far too many sides. My faves are okra, corn & tomatoes - sauteed together (nothing breaded) with a dash of white pepper - YUM. I also love the summer squash - cooked with onions to add flavor & in a very mild cream sauce plus the fried green tomatoes - only complaint there is I wish the tomatoes were seasoned a bit before dredging in cornmeal & frying. I've also had the turkey reuben sandwich & it's delicious. Blackened catfish is another fave. My husband loves their vegetable barley soup - the serving filled him up! Servings are huge & the place is always hopping. read more
