While driving home from an epic early-June Friday adventure, I found myself battling a serious sweet tooth craving. What I needed was a grab-and-go dessert to cap off the day. Enter Ranch House Restaurant. I've been driving past the Ranch House for the majority of my life and somehow had never stopped. This particular Friday, that was finally going to change. Located right along Route 15, The Ranch House earns immediate points for convenience. It's incredibly easy to get in and out of, and there is a TON of parking available right outside the restaurant. From an accessibility standpoint, this place is about as easy as it gets. I pulled in around 4pm on a Friday afternoon and had no trouble finding a parking spot. Inside, the restaurant was buzzing with diners. Busy for 4pm? Absolutely. Overwhelming? Not at all. There were plenty of staff members available, and someone greeted me almost immediately. I explained that I wasn't staying for a meal and was only there to check out the dessert case for something to take with me. The waitress couldn't have been nicer and encouraged me to take my time. And thank goodness she did. I spent several minutes standing in front of the dessert case having a very serious internal debate between two worthy contenders: a towering slice of peanut butter pie and a gigantic piece of chocolate cake slathered with peanut butter frosting. In the end, the chocolate cake won. For $6.77, I was happily carrying an enormous slice of cake back to my car and already looking forward to dessert later that evening. This particular piece of cake had been officially designated as Friday Night Date Night dessert and was destined to be enjoyed a few hours later in a beautiful location. I remained committed to the plan and patiently waited until the proper time to dig in. The cake itself was very good. Moist, nicely textured, and pleasantly chocolatey without crossing into ultra-rich fudge territory. As someone who generally prefers vanilla over chocolate, I appreciated that the chocolate flavor was present without completely taking over the experience. The frosting, however, was where things got interesting. As a self-appointed peanut butter dessert connoisseur, I have consumed a truly alarming amount of peanut butter pie, peanut butter cake, peanut butter cookies, peanut butter cheesecake, peanut butter brownies, and pretty much anything else containing peanut butter. This frosting was unlike anything I've ever tasted. Most peanut butter frostings fall into one of two categories: rich and dense or fluffy and sweet. This one was neither. It was salty. Not slightly salty. Very salty. There was a bit of peanut butter flavor. There was a bit of sweetness. But the dominant note for me was salt. I'm honestly still not sure if it was the peanuts themselves, the butter, or some secret ingredient in the Ranch House's recipe, but it was one of the most unusual peanut butter frostings I've ever encountered. Several days later, I'm still trying to decide whether I actually liked it. To be clear, I finished every last bite. Cake doesn't go to waste around here regardless of how confusing my feelings may be. But the frosting left me scratching my head the entire time. Would I stop again? Probably. Would I order the peanut butter dessert again? Probably not. For me, this visit landed firmly in the "meh" category. The staff were friendly, the location was convenient, and the dessert case offered plenty of tempting options. Unfortunately, the peanut butter frosting just didn't quite hit the mark for my taste buds. And that makes me a bit nervous about trying anything else. read more

Service was good, food was meh. Coffee was ok, the water was great as it had no chlorine or after taste as many non filtered water does in this area. Hash browns and the rye bread was the best part although I wish the bread wasn't buttered coming out as I like to butter my own bread. Eggs were cooked as ordered but my bacon tasted weird. I've driven past here to and from Susquehanna for 30 years and never stopped. Today we did! This is an old school, friendly and home spun restaurant. Cooked to order and yet very quick. We stopped here for lunch while on a road trip. Fern was our server and she was friendly and attentive. I ordered the crab stuffed shrimp. Absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked. I had mashed potatoes and gravy w/ steamed broccoli. The broccoli would need some butter and a little salt, but the texture was great. My husband ordered the bourbon salmon w/ the same size. His salmon was delicious. My daughter ordered the mushroom Swiss burger w/ fries and loved it. It is a very cozy restaurant that was very welcoming. I'm not a local, but I'm writing a review of a place that I stop at approximately three times a year on the way to Jersey Shore,PA to visit my sister. 2023 was a year when I visited about five times and I visited at least three times in 2022. HOMESTYLE freshly cooked entrees. Very good cold sandwiches. Their side items are large and wonderful. Wonderful waitstaff who treated me well. Great restaurant! We stop here from time to time when we travel down 15. It's a cute looking dinner on the inside and very clean. Service was great. Our server was Kam. Very attentive and friendly. Food is away great. It's real food. My wife and daughter both had turkey sandwiches and I had the Pittsburg burger. Prices are cheap seeing as it's not cheap pressed hamburger patties. I'd like to give this place a five star but unfortunately the food quantity has gone down. We barely had any potatoes with our breakfast- very thinly sliced to make it look like a lot. Our waitress did not fill up waters or coffee and we had to ask multiple times. We were there at 12:30pm on a Saturday and it was dead. Otherwise, I really like this place and hope to come back and not have this issue. They have a great menu and bakery items. Plenty of seating and can accommodate large parties. The food wasn't bad. The waiter was pretty on point. For a quick stop food wasn't bad. Baked Mac n cheese tasted old and the cheese wasn't creamy it was all lumpy. But the chicken was really crispy! It was a okay stop when we were hungry definitely get a good portion. I didn't like the spaghetti sauce but everyone is different. Some like it herby, some like it tangy, some like it sweet. You are able to sit down and eat inside the building. Wearing a mask until you are seated is being asked of customers. The soup was chicken and corn - it was absolutely delicious! I would have eaten an entire tub of it if allowed. The tender tips were cooked well and had a nice flavor - slightly bland, but some salt fixed that right up. The Mac and cheese was delicious, not grainy and very well balanced. The steamed veggies were very clean tasting - they were cooked well. Adding some pepper - and possible some butter? - helped spice it up slightly. Overall, the staff was super friendly, the place was clean - including the very clean bathrooms, and the overall atmosphere was very welcoming. I would be returning for sure. read more

Oh this was just bad. We met a group of 12 or so for brunch at 1030. We arrived a bit late at 1040 and we were too late for the buffet. Which is just as well since the 12 people who ordered it all encouraged us to order off the menu because the buffet was so bad. I was afraid to ask what was wrong. It took us 25 minutes to order because we sat without menus for 20 minutes. I've been eating Keto and have had any carbs in weeks, and I decide to cheat and get a bacon cheeseburger and fries. Fries were good. That's why they get one star. But that burger was awful. It was just hammered and rubbery. I left half on the plate, that's how bad it was. Hubby had a roast beef club that looked pretty dry. We each waited 30 minutes for drink refills. Never, ever again. read more

One early Monday afternoon, after the conclusion of the sweet 16 NCAA tournament , whilst traveling South on route 15 along side the Susquehanna river we made a conscious decision to pull over for lunch after I noticed I was slightly dozing off at the wheel. I thought to myself, "better pull over before I flip my car!" I ripped into a parking lot a solid 20 miles per hour over the speed limit. Once the dust settled I noticed that I was at the Ranch House Restaurant, I stepped out of my vehicles and we walked up the front ramp then entered the establishment. I walked through the front door and was immediately greeted by a full display of wonder looking desserts. The waitress that approached us asked if we preferred to be seated at a booth or table, to which we responded "doesn't matter." After sitting down I could already tell that this was legit. Our waitress asked us what we wanted to drink, they sell Pepsi products, so we all reluctantly replied, "Pepsi please." We then began reviewing the menu which was easy to read. We all proceeded to order our lunch (Ruben sandwich with fries, roast beef sandwich with fries, "Pittsburger" with fries, and a turkey club sandwich with fries.) Two of us also got a cup of soup, a chicken and rice and a ham and bean, which were both excellent. While waiting for our food to arrive, we took note of the very classic and home style decor, it was slightly dated, but I like it that way, but not my food, which it wasn't. I then got up to use the restroom and noticed the restroom has a urinal and two stalls, the urinal was right next to the sink, the sink was brown and I was afraid that somebody was going to come wash their hands next to me because there was no divider and I felt violated. After thoroughly washing my hands, I returned back to my booth. our food came out in a relatively quick manner, only taking approximately 15 minutes, we were shocked by the quality and quantity of the food that was presented to us. The waitress was sure to keep us stocked on our Pepsi-Cola products and checked back with us periodically to make sure everything was alright. The fried were enormous, not steak fries, but they were very thick cut, crispy, and delicious. The burger was tasty with a nice soft top bun, the Ruben featured a thick corned beef on rye bread, the only disappointing part was the side of thousand island dressing, which was not homemade but it did not matter because the sandwich was fantastic. The roast beef sandwich had a perfect amount of gravy, which was very good. Finally, the club sandwich was a very large portion, almost guaranteed to fill any hungry customer. We got up and left feeling very satisfied with our meals, we peeled out of the parking lot and we're back on our journey once again. read more

Server took our drink and food order for myself and my girlfriend.. Brought out salad and applesauce. Never brought drinks or rest of food. Took orders for tables all around us. After half an hour, went to the cash register to pay for salad and applesauce. Another server came up and told us not to bother after I told her what happened. Not sure what we did to this server to ignore us.............no manager to check on tables.........neither the server nor the restaurant needs my money apparently read more
