I have lived in Leawood and tried to support this store for 50 years. No longer. The help in the back of the store is generally helpful but the old bags at check out are not. I am 74 by the way. One old long grey haired gal is particularly rude. Today I went down to pick up some batteries. The Boy Scouts were out front seeking donations but I only had large bills and said I would be back after I got some change. I paid for the batteries in cash but received a $10 back. I asked if she could please give me some smaller bills because I wanted to donate to the Scouts and she refused to open the cash drawer. Scouts got a $10 so good for them. Interesting tactic! Had two keys cut. They didn't work in the door. Went back and complained. "Didn't you use graphite first on the lock?" (Of course, they didn't mention that on the first trip. ). Tried the keys after graphite. Still don't work. Not wasting my time going back. Wrote this review instead. Go elsewhere for keys. read more

The Ranch Mart Ace is a smaller Ace, but it has the basics down. We popped in with my dog and daughter after visiting the nearby pet store, lured in by the pumpkins out front. Even in the midst of my daughter's biggest public tantrum in a long time (okay, a week), the staff was lighthearted and friendly on our short visit. My main gripe with Ace continues to be their Rewards program. They scanned my Ace Rewards and said "doesn't show an account." However, I'd just used it a few weeks back at another one and it was fine. I also bought a brand new mower that racked up tons of points this spring, but they just never honored it. I followed up with customer service in detail and they completely punted on it. I'd rather go to Euston or another hardware store, but in a pinch this chain of them is fine for what it is. We walked in unsure, then Abby smelt it. Hudson's O'Neill's body axe, we knew he was around the corner. We kindly asked him and mr mason where the toy section was. They guided us through the entire store to get there just to get us to the product. Dedication. They also helped us find good equipment for our bug catching expedition. Checkout process was a little rough. Mr orange boy refused to bag our bug catcher, as well as giving slight sass. However, we were offered a family and friends discount. Overall a great experience with awesome employees will be back. read more

This place is freaking incredible!!! The moniker 'hardware store' does not do it justice. You will find all of the usual hardware store things but they have so much more too. For my Colorado friends, this is the closest thing to Boulder's McGuckin Hardware that I've found in KC. Much, much smaller but a similar vibe and incredible product selection. It's one of those places you go in for one thing and come out with 20 you didn't know you needed but you totally did. I love their candles and they have a great selection too of bath & body care, including products from KC's own Zum. Yesterday I got a garden hose (and it came with a free sprayer,) 2 hanging baskets of Impatiens- only $15 each!- and a wrench. The staff is always really nice and helpful and I love that they're open late- even 9:00pm on Saturdays. read more

I've shopped at this store for decades. It's not close to where I live but I make sure to stop in every time I'm in the area. Never once have I not found the item I was looking for. I love Mrs. Meyers basil bar soap. This is the only store that seems to sell it. I've found kitchen items, a rocking horse for a Christmas gift, seeds for planting, laundry soap, and so much more in this store. My latest search was for blue outdoor light bulbs to support law enforcement. Ranch Mart Ace had just what I was looking for! I purchased them. Later, I volunteered with a non-profit that supports law enforcement and decided it wouldn't hurt to ask if Ranch Mart would make a donation of those blue light bulbs that could be sold for the fundraiser. I was greatly surprised when I asked for a few bulbs and they donated a full case. They also decided to donate a beautiful flag! When I read reviews from the 'Karens' that think they should have control over everybody and their knowledge (and lack thereof) should dictate how owners run their businesses and customers need to wear a face diaper to shop there I want to say...shop elsewhere if you don't like this business!!! Take your hatred where it's loved. This business has been successful for decades and they don't need busy bodies to tell them how to run it. I'll be a forever loyal customer! I brought in 2 cabinet doors to be measured for glass. Come back to get the glass. And I the glass would not fit in the doors.

It sells some of the Nordicware line. I didn't visit this store for cooking supplies, or pans, not by any means. I had a $10 off of $20, and needed a surge protector and batteries. I feel I am a trooper for sticking to my original plan. I was surprised by the aisles of cooking supplies. It is huge. I had an issue whether to buy a pan I needed or go with my original and mundane plan. There are utensils, and pans, specialty mixes and sauces. Square plates, round plates thick, washable paper plates, ceramic plates, plastic plates, heart shaped plates. saucers, cups, measuring cups and spoons, cupcake pans and cookbooks...see what I mean? I visited it for a needed surge protector. I immediately found a salesman, who took me to the surge protectors. He proceeded to knowledge me about surge protectors, then said "We have the biggest flashlight collection in town." I decided on 2 surge protectors, and thought..."I need a flashlight...nope, not here for that." I knew where the batteries were, and I went to check out. I'm not sure he did the coupon right, but whatever, I got $10 off of $20, and found a cool hardware store with alot of cooking supplies. Their steps to comply with CDC guidelines for COVID-19 are almost non-existent. Their cashiers are not wearing gloves, not using sanitizers. They still have the credit card machine right next to the cash register, forcing their customers to be within 2 feet of the cashier. (No masks which would be advised if they insist on keeping customers that close.) I was in there last night and couldn't see that they had taken any steps to safeguard their employees or customers. I want to support local businesses through this, but not if they don't take action and follow guidelines. read more

With big hardware stores & Amazon, this store needs to up its game in customer service. Why are they forcing customers to print out their own coupons? Ink is expensive. Use the Ace rewards card for coupons or allow screenshots. Embrace technology! Whoever owns this store better realize that people shop at small stores because they get better service. integrate Google pay or Apple wallet for coupons! The young guys at the registers literally sulk like obnoxious teenagers. They're flat out rude! I have had good experiences with younger women working there. Some older male employees make me feel like I'm being unreasonable when I ask for help. Once, I was looking for rechargeable batteries & all I saw we're "recycled" batteries. I ask a guy working there if the batteries were rechargeable & in a rude & patronizing manner, he said "it's says so right on the package!" This infuriated me! I showed him the "recycled" not "rechargeable" battery pkg! I refuse to put up w/ that so I walked out of the store & bought "RECHARGEABLE" batteries on Amazon! The old guy probably struggles with a smartphone but he's treating me like an idiot?! This was the final straw: We were there recently & couldn't find anyone to help us but there was a CUSTOMER holding a bag which stored holiday decorations. An employee with maroon hair comes out & before we can ask her for help, she's screaming at this customer "MA'AM MA'AM THOSE AREN'T ON SALE!!! THOSE AREN'T ON SALE!!! THOSE AREN'T DISCOUNTED!!" I seriously thought she was going to slap the item out of this woman's hands. Why would an employee act like that when the CUSTOMER was just standing there, holding the item? The day before, they were marked 75% off. My husband and son were there and saw the rack with holiday storage. It said 75% off!! The rack was independent so it's not like it could be confused w/ other discounted items. This store doesn't carry enough items to make shopping there worth printing coupons, dealing with sulking teenagers, pscho employees or patronizing old men. Awhile back, I heard someone ask about the printed coupons & a short, older cashier with blonde hair became really defensive. She didn't acknowledge the CUSTOMER'S concerns. She rudely said "I have nothing to do with it! That's just the way it is" ANOTHER EPIC FAIL in CUSTOMER service. If cashiers are crazy or petulant brats, customers are treated like pests & they lack the inventory, they're going down! They need to step into the 21st century & realize CUSTOMER SERVICE is the only advantage they have! I wouldn't recommend shopping at this store. read more

I am a typical grumpy old man that fixes EVERY thing. The Ranch Mart Hardware store is impressive in the hardware department. With competitive stores I carefully check the website first, so I know what is going to exist in front of my face. Once a year, I go into this store's hardware department, find what I'm after, and then carry it slowly around every aisle of hardware for an hour. I be gettin' educated! I pay and exit when the feet hurt, the head stops working, or the wife sends a message. This store has twice as many different and useful offerings per millimeter of aisle than any other hardware store I know of. Is it was possible to digitize a walk-thru of the aisles, with ultra-zoom? I would browse the heck out of that, a lot more often than once a year. read more

Had exactly what I needed, when the big box stores didn't (what more can you ask for)!!! Additionally, this specific ACE seems to have a better selection of brackets/shelf pegs than others in the KC area...as it was the ONLY place I found online that had them in store/stock. For this reason, I'll check here sooner in the future when looking for hard to find items. Recently bought some kitchen slide-out shelves that attach to existing shelves. So I was specifically looking for the adjustable pegs with the screw holes that attach to the shelf, to ensure the shelf wouldn't flip up in the back when the weighted-down shelf is fully slid out. I also wanted some L/corner braces to reinforce along the back wall. I discovered what I needed by Googling online. The big box store near me (and all their other KC locations) only offered online order with in-store pick-up a week from now. The other major box store carried the "brass" version of what I was looking for, but my preference was the steel/nickel color. When I Googled the part I saw ACE also carried them, but not the locations closest to me. When I scrolled through the "check[ed] nearby locations," this was the ONLY one of the 10 listed that had it "available today," which meant it was in store--I even called before making the drive to make sure it wasn't an error, and they confirmed, 7 in-stock. Had my snowblower (that I bought here for about 350) serviced this past spring. Cost $100+ for the service. Man told me to run the gas out of it, I did. Put fresh gas in tonight in anticipation of tomorrow's snowstorm, it won't start. So 450+ dollars and I have used it 3 times in 5 years. The store has lots of novelty cards and merchandise making fun and humor about a lot of subjects. I have noticed a few people point out the store carries trump merchandise, but what they fail to tell you is that they also carry dump trump, Obama, Clinton, Sanders, Biden, Busch, Reagan, Lincoln, and more. This is fun merchandise. Not sure why some people are so thin skinned that they have a problem. I for one enjoy the variety and humor. Lighten up people. No Covid19 protocols in place! None of the employees were wearing masks nor were there any plexiglass or plastic barriers at the registers. I asked about facemasks for the employees and the young man sneered at me and said "we don't have to wear them here". I spoke with Brian M., the manager and he said that facemasks didn't make any difference and no one knows what they're talking about. I worked for over a decade at Saint Lukes Cancer Institute and I can assure you, masks do make a difference. A life and death difference. I'm not going to go through the entire conversation but I was appalled at his ignorance and arrogance. It is exactly this kind of environment that breeds contamination and spikes the numbers. I went to this stupid store to buy potting soil for house plants. The entire aisle that contained potting soil was blocked with carts and rolling racks. I asked for help to get to the inventory. I was told that the aisle was blocked because they were getting a delivery truck that night. But I am here now to shop for potting soil- so are you not selling potting soil because your store is too lazy to open the aisle? Are you too disorganized to figure out how to sell your inventory while preparing for a delivery 12 hours away? I never got a clear answer if they actually would actually provide access to that aisle as I kept being told that they were getting a delivery- like this was somehow an answer or valid excuse. I left and later purchased my soil at Home Depot. The employees at this Ace have a long way to go in customer service skills and I don't think I will be back unless totally desperate. read more

Simply the best hardware store in Johnson County, KS. You can find hardware items of all descriptions. They have replacement parts for almost any kind of electrical, plumbing, or fastener item you need. They can replace that weird washer, hinge, battery, or drawer slide you lost or broke. The staff knows how everything goes together and what is good for what. This is not the place to buy building materials -- it's a hardware store. They do have a good selection of tools, lawn items, and the typical Ace brand items. read more

The owner treated me and my daughter like we were criminals because we tried to return something that was just bought less than an hour before. She had the audacity to YELL at my daughter about this. I needed to replace the batteries in my car security remote. The staff at the Hub desk near the back of the store had the right tiny screwdriver to open the remote. They charged me for only the batteries and the labor was free! Friendly AND helpful staff! read more

When I originally reviewed the paint dept customer service for this store, I was not pleased -- at all. My poor review prompted the paint dept manager, Alyssa, to call me and apologize, which I appreciated. I also just received a very nice, handwritten note in the mail from Alyssa along with a gift card to further "make up" for the service I'd received during a recent visit there.
