I have my cars serviced twice by this repair shop, both times I find they're quick, knowledgeable, honest and charge reasonable rates. First time they help plugged a tire (ran over a nail) on my Tesla in 5 minutes. And second time to help reconnect a turn signal light connector that Chevy dealer screwed up and unplugged, I just got too tired of going back to the dealer and having to wait hours for them to fix their screw up. The guy here were able to help took off the front bumper and reconnect the plug in 45 minutes. read more

I rolled in this morning with a completely flat tire. Alan came to my rescue. I was standing there in a dress and heels, just starting to freak out. Alan immediately calmed me down. The guys at this station are the nicest gas station attendants I have ever met. I have stopped by here so many times and no matter who is there, they are always nice, polite and helpful. Wednesday is Lady's Day which is also a great reason to fill up here. I love that they come out to your car if you are a lady and help pump your gas. It's a small thing they do but continues to impress me because it really gives you a sense of being connected to the community. I was cruising down 280 doing a Kramer and trying to see how far my car would go when the "needs gas" light was on. I realized that is was not funny anymore once it the car said 0 miles left and I decided to go to the next station which ended up being this one. It is a nice quaint area in Los Altos. My father's 2007 Lexus needed an oil change, and I took a chance on Rancho 76 because of very positive customer reviews, and because they are only a mile or two from my house! My dad's two key fob batteries were pretty much out of juice, so they changed out both in minutes, and were able to start it up and pull it in their service bay. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of assuming the same quality of work would be done at the San Antonio 76 station since the owner is the same and sometime the staff rotates. They did some decent work in the past (San Antonio) but they really let me down this past week when they: 1. Did not fix what they were supposed to fix, $300 later. 2) when calling me to authorize (budget was $250), neglected to mention a major belt was cracked. I would not have invested in the car, had I known. I may give the Rancho shops a try again (left because less convenient) but probably not. Original quote elsewhere was $225 for guys who own up and step up. When discussing the above, not much was offered in the way of recompense. I've sent them so much business, so am compelled here to update. Fellas, do your job and when you don't, step up. read more

(FYI, the Yelp address is slightly misleading. Yes, the gas station/auto shop is in the Rancho Shopping Center, but the street address is actually Fremont Ave. But if you enter 650 Fremont Ave, 94024 in Google Maps, you'll find a closer approximation of its actual location.) I grew up a mile from here and it's where my family always brought our cars to be worked on. My Dad trusted the mechanics and the owner. I live a little further away, but this is where I bring my car when it doesn't need a warranty repair at the dealership. The mechanics have changed a little over time, but I have always trusted the mechanics that the owners hire. I brought my 12 year old VW here recently and a new to me mechanic worked on it, Jeff. As usual, I was very pleased with his work, his honesty, and his willingness to explain everything to me. Like all of the mechanics at Rancho, I have always felt comfortable as a woman to bring my car and not have to worry about being condescended to, or being treated like I don't know anything. Jeff even called me the day after I picked up my car to make sure everything was okay! I also remember a time about 7 years ago when a different mechanic (I think it was Peter, but my memory is fuzzy now) found a coolant leak in my car, but he recommended that I have it fixed at the dealership because it should still be under warranty. I really appreciated his honesty and his assistance to save me money! I was also upset that the dealership mechanic didn't even notice the leak when they had it for a different routine checkup a few months before. So even more props to Rancho! So, in summary, I have always been super pleased with Rancho Auto (for more decades than I care to admit!), and I'm mentally kicking myself for not having made a positive review here earlier! read more

Tucked away at the edge of the shopping center, this gas station is a real treat! The décor is retro-cool and reminds me of pictures if seen from stations in the sixties (complete with a Mustang being worked on in it's garage). It's an amazingly maintained wood structure and absolutely gorgeous. The pumps are all shaded and the window washing fluid is clean and the squeegees were all in great shape. I didn't go into to the bathrooms but it made me smile to see that they had a working water fountain outside of them. The "store" is small and very clean. The woman manning the register was very pleasant and made small talk. She answered all of my questions directly and with a smile. The store is stocked with a small selection of the usual suspects (chips, candy bars, gum, water, and sodas). They also stock windshield wipers and oil. The mechanic came out of the garage at one point and I asked him about a huge sign they had that stated "Wednesdays between 8am and 5pm is ladies day". He stated that it's a day where they pump gas, clean windows, check your oil, and tire pressure while you wait in the car. How cool is that? I can't wait to check it out. He was very pleasant and spent quite a bit of time talking with me. I felt like I was an old friend. This place is a true gem! DO: Take a moment to look around and absorb it all. I got my oil changed several times at Rancho 76. The guys seemed nice enough but sometimes it seems like they forget a few things. For example they didn't fill the window washer fluid once or twice in one time I opened up my hood to put the windshield wiper fluid in (that they forgot) and have left a wrench right next to my engine and it was after I drove several times front back and forth to work about 100 miles with a wrench city on top of my engine. I will say that conveniently located what their prices are kinda high for oil change, $75 without a tire rotation. It is a location I go to when I am in a jam or did not plan ahead. 4 stars for service and attiture 2 stars for price and mistakes read more

These guys are great. Always friendly and speedy service. Writing it all down has been long overdue, but I have a good excuse: I don't think Yelp existed back when... years ago... a story on behalf of my spouse, who got stuck on Foothill in the fast left lane - her car simply died. The irony was that it happened when I flew out to San Diego for a day, and took her cell phone with me as a back up, to avoid running out of juice /having to recharge mine. So she found herself stranded there, and what's even worth - when good samaritans pushed her vehicle onto Rancho 76 lot, and workers there let her in to use their landline to call for help - she couldn't remember any phone numbers except for my cell or our home (both useless at that moment). She called me nevertheless even though I couldn't do anything from 500mi away. The point is, she was greeted extremely friendly at this station, calmed down with some chit-chat, offered help there if she'd chosen so, but without pushing into it, and eventually left the car parked there overnight until my arrival to deal with it. Funny ending: the car got started just fine when I arrived the following afternoon! read more

I happened to be traveling this route on the way back from a doctor's appointment last week when I noticed my tank was almost empty. I stopped in since the prices were a bit lower than most of their nearby competitors but what really impressed me was the service. There was a nice man (the owner, maybe?) standing outside by the pumps to greet me with "it's ladies' free pump day" and he proceeded to swipe my card, pump my gas, wash (all!) of my windows and hand me my receipt without even pausing to wait for a tip. Wow! Talk about excellent service! I don't know how often this sort of thing happens, but it was definitely a nice surprise. read more

My RV stalled a block away from this station, in the left turn lane! and would not restart, even with jumper cables. I drove our chase car to the station, shaking, nervous and very upset. Robert was so calm and nice; Jared looked up the model in his computer, grabbed a battery off the shelf and drove over to install it. Bingo! It started like a dream. The truck still would not idle well and threatened to stall so they suggested I bring it in next day for Dave to look at and check all the systems. These guys are the greatest! Now I know what Knights in Shining Armor really look like. I had never been there before, although I do live quite nearby. They will be getting all my gas business from now on. After the battery died in my Murano, my husband took the car here for a new one. The service seemed friendly, so when my regular mechanic couldn't get my car in before our Christmas roadtrip to LA, we decided to give them a try. The car isn't driven too much, but we knew it needed an oil change and a full safety inspection. When we got the car back, they indicated that everything was fine, it just needed an oil change. A couple of days later I noticed a new oil stain on the garage floor where the car was parked. Then the car stalled and wouldn't restart while my husband was driving it. We had the car towed to a different mechanic, that we have used in the past, but wasn't as convenient, and found out the air filter assembly had been busted and the car needed about $500 in parts. In addition, the oil level was low and the transmission fluid was extremely dirty and needed to be flushed. The guy at Rancho says they didn't touch the air filter, change the transmission fluid based on mileage (so don't check it) and had no explanation for why the oil level would be low. Based on my experience, I wouldn't trust them to work on my car again. read more

Johannes is fantastic, very knowledgable, highly competent and trustworthy. He is extremely customer oriented so when I pull into the station I immediately feel that the huge burden of understanding my automobile function is taken away from me and placed into the right hands. I can't always make it there for Ladies Day on Wednesdays when Johannes fills the tank, washes the windows, looks under the hood, checks the fluid levels, air levels, etc. and then sends me on my way feeling safe in my auto until my next visit. Another good experience with the mechanics on Friday. Needed a rush smog test. Clipped a coupon from another tester and they matched it and squeezed me in. They had 3 cars on the hoists and were obviously busy. I was in and out in literally 20 minutes. read more

This place is the worst. In a world where we expect technology to work, more than 75% of the time I don't get a paper receipt when I request one at the pump. The kind attendants simply say "the owner is cheap and won't fix them" or "they are old" or similar. I have lived near this gas station for 10 years and my family was spending a total of about $3,000/year there. I now go out of my way to buy gas at other stations when I can, and I've cut down my spend at this station to less than once over other month (I buy gas about 4-5X/month due to a long commute). In addition, the pumps at this station are worn down, dirty and cosmetically damaged. I even went so far as to contact Union 76 corporate customer service and they said they'd look into it and get back to me, but I never heard back. The last time I went to this station and had the same problem (for the 100th or so time), the attendant said I should email the owner, who doesn't listen to his employees complaints but might listen to a customer - but the attendant didn't have an email address to offer, so I am using Yelp and hopefully the owner gets it. The only reason I care is because of this station's location/convenience, but that's not enough to keep me as a loyal customer. read more
