Finding Rancho Grande in Madison honestly felt like finding a diamond in the rough. My husband and I are from Fort Lauderdale, and we were in Madison while he was here for work. If you know Madison, you know it's a pretty small town, so there aren't a ton of restaurant options. The first night, my husband and I shared the chicken fajitas for ONE. The portions were absolutely insane, there was enough to feed both of us and they were genuinely some of the best fajitas I've ever had. It was so good that I came back the very next day while my husband was at work. This time I got the fajita tacos, and they were just as amazing. It comes with three tacos, but they were so filling I could only eat two before I was stuffed, so I took the third one home. The staff was so friendly both times I came in. The second day I came, they had the World Cup on TV, and I was watching the game. And even when I had already finished eating and paid my bill, they told me I was more than welcome to stay and finish watching the game - which was very nice and I appreciated it. The atmosphere was also awesome. Between the paintings, pottery, colorful booths, and all the little details, you feel like you're in Mexico lol. It's not just food, it's an experience. Even as I write this, I am trying to figure out if I should give it two or three stars. I try to be upbeat about restaurants, but overall, this particular Mexican restaurant failed on multiple levels. Walking in, the ambiance is that of other Mexican restaurants. My host asked how many and when I said one, he just told me to grab any booth. I sat there for a bit until someone brought over a menu. A bit more tome and someone brought me chips and salsa. The chips and salsa tasted like something bought in a supermarket. My entree was perhaps even worse. It was a mixture of asada and chorizo and it was greasy and extremely bland. The rice and refried beans were not the best and I would bet that the refried beans came out of a can. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and when I returned my table was cleaned off and my notebook was gone. Fortunately, they put it behind the counter, but I would have liked to have finished my drink. My server never checked on me either. I guess ultimately I have to give here two stars. read more

I've recently moved to the area from Los Angeles and the number of restaurants is severely limited. I've enjoyed Rancho Grande each time we've gone. The food and service are as i expected for such a small town; not awful, not great, but acceptable. The pricing for the food is fine. Unless you're having the two for one margaritas (only weekends I believe), the drinks are very pricey and not very strong. Mondays they seem to have live entertainment in the bar, which was fun. Tucked into downtown Madison, Florida you will find this quaint Mexican Restaurant. We were seated immediately In a most beautifully painted booth. Drinks were ordered mine was called sex on the beach and it was delicious. Light, fruity , a mild punch. Chips and salsa were provided we ordered cheese dip as well. The cheese was really too soupy . I had the enchiladas supreme Chicken, beef, cheese , beans so four in total. They were good. Topped with guacamole sour cream, diced tomatoes. They were good mostly average. My husband had the vegetarian fajitas . They looked really good and he did not complain. Overall decent food light on the wallet, Service was good. I think everyone was just tired. They charged me 50.00 for 2 take out "Kate's plates". Each plate is between 12-15.00. What a rip off place. So they actually stole from me . And the food was just "so -so", nothing to write home about. My advice, do not waste your money. Go elsewhere. read more

Nice find in the quaint town of Madison! It had your standard Mexican food offerings. I had a tasty veggie quesadilla and it was PACKED with veggies (spinach, shrooms, onions, tomatoes). I love the aesthetic of this place! I'm not familiar with this area and came to visit my dad who suggested we come here. The chips and salsa to start were good. Everything came out quick, which was great because we were hungry! I ordered the burrito azteca with chicken. It was very good. The sauces on top were plentiful and it was filled with good size chunks of chicken. My dad ordered the enchiladas special (one of each type) and ate all of it. Overall food was very good and if given the opportunity I would love to go back and explore the menu. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars was someone in the restaurant (sounded like an employee) was very loudly talking on the phone and had it on speaker so we basically heard the entire conversation. Although the outside is not much to look at the inside dining room is decorated pretty cute. However, half the restaurant is a bar area which is full of storage so you don't really have a bar to sit at. That didn't really stop us and that's not really the cause for a two point review, we ate there twice the week we were in Madison, the first time the service was extremely slow but the food in the margaritas were good so we opted to go back a second time. A manager on duty even came around to check on us once or twice. The second time we went there, we ordered the house two-for-one margaritas because the other day we ordered the top shelf organic margaritas and they were kind of expensive. The server actually asked us if we wanted small, medium or large on the margaritas. We opted for the large, figuring we would probably only have one. We actually had the same server we had the first time and again the food was good and the service was even faster and better. When check came, however, we were charged full price for those house margaritas, when I questioned a different manager it was pointed out to me on the menu that the glasses were different, huh? I'm supposed to know that there's a difference in the glasses? I said that's false advertising two-for-one margaritas did not specify that they had to be small, not large. Those large house margaritas cost as much as the top shelf organic ones for the same size. He absolutely refused to budge, and said it was all my fault, because I didn't notice the rim being different or the size of the glass looking different in the menu. I followed him up to the register to go ahead and pay our bill, even though I was very angry with the way, he was treating me , I even asked him if he knew what yelp was and he said he really didn't care. I said fine I will be reviewing you, and although he ran my credit card he did not even give me the opportunity to tip the server and I had no cash. When I told him, I hadn't had a chance to tip the server with my card. He basically said he did not care, and that he did not have time for me and shrugged me off and turned away. I have never not tipped a server no matter how bad the service. Ironically, I have had bad experiences in restaurants, and since I would rather help the industry than hurt it, I rarely put a bad review out there. First off, the food was excellent. We started with their chips and salsa and added the quest which had good flavor but was a little runny. I had the California burrito with steak which was amazing. Others had the carne asada, the King Kong burrito and fajita tacos. The service could have been a little more attentive but they were busy so it's understandable. I had the misfortune of eating at Rancho Grande recently and it was a terrible experience. The food was dry and the service was slow and unhelpful. When you're ordering don't ask for any customizations because they will do the exact opposite. When I asked them to remake my order it seemed like they just reheated my order so the portion looked like it was 1/4 the original size. The prices are way too high for what you get, $17 with only 2 shrimp in the dish is steep. I wouldn't recommend Rancho Grande to anyone looking for a good dining experience. read more

The food is good... but that's where it stops. I ordered waters... they brought cokes to the table. We reiterated 3 waters again. Next time the waiter brought 2 waters. We told him 3 waters... he brought another water and then another water. He left 1 coke on the table, which no one drank. When we first arrived the waiter brought out chips and salsa. When we placed our order we also ordered guacamole... we asked for more chips too. When my bill arrived, I was charged for the 2nd basket of chips. I was also charged for an iced tea. When I told the cashier the mix up with the cokes, he told me the charge was for the iced tea and pointed to the full glass on the table. I pointed to the glass and said it was coke and we never ordered it. He took that off the bill. I questioned about the charge for the basket of chips... he said the first basket is free. I asked him if guacamole comes with chips and he just looked at me and said no. So I asked him if i came in alone would I still get a free basket of chips. He talked to the manager and they spoke to each other in Spanish -- I paid for the 2nd basket of chips. I'm okay with that, but not okay enough to go back. I was asked in the beginning of my review what Rancho grande could do to fix The reason why I don't recommend their restaurant. First they should get their orders right, and if they don't get them right fix them. Second, don't try to charge customers for something they never ordered. Third, They should remember that the basket of chips they put on the table for one or two, isn't going to go quite as far when there's three or four sitting at the table. Losing business over a basket of chips is not a good thing. Fourth, They need to teach their staff that when a customer has a problem, it is quite rude to speak in Spanish so the customer cannot understand what's being said. Perfect! Staff was uber friendly, the restaurant is spacious, the food was legit, and they'll work with dietary restrictions! I had the cheese and veggie torta (sandwich). It was huge and came full of sautéed mushrooms, onions, pico de gallo, carrots, avocados and other veggies I could not even recognize because of all the cheese the salty flavorful goodness. It was the best torta I have had since leaving California and to be honest in the running with most of the best there. Also, don't be afraid of their of their chips and salsa. Unlike most other restaurants who served week old stale chips this place has fresh crispy chips! They're so good you can even see through the bottom of the bag a few hours later. read more

So, we had a harrowing trip in our RV....blew out a tire and waited in the blistering sun for road side repair. We finally made it to our over night destination...Jellystone Campground in Madison County. That place is cute too, but that's another review! We were exhausted and hungry and hot and not at all pleased that the only restaurants google showed us were Denny's, McDonalds and Waffle House. I went on Yelp and found this place. It's super cute, the staff is all over you, offering more chips, salsa, drinks etc. I like Chardonnay, and all they had was Sutter Home, but hey! After my day, that was just fine. Here again is a restaurant that I wanted to give super high scores to but just couldn't. The chips were great, but then the salsa, while it had a kick, lacked flavor. The cheese dip was equally bland, compared to most other mexican restaurants. The service was very fast and was probably the highlight of the visit. Our waiter was fast, efficient and very nice. The food was also fast, but I asked for an extra crispy chimichanga and got a barely cooked chimichanga. I also found a hair in the cheese dip...I know it happens but it doesn't mean I have to not complain about it...I mean it was sitting right on top when it was delivered. They replaced it but I saw it before I dipped my first chip and they should have as well. The place lands solidly in the category of "average", so while I might eat here again someday...I probably wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to people. read more

This is a very attractive restaurant in downtown Madison. Was well worth de tour off interstate first time I came here after a Suwannee River paddle trip, not only for restaurant but also to see this little town with its oldz time courthouse. Good food, good service. I ate here a,second time yesterday on my way back from a VA appt in Lake City. Tip: They do have tacos al pastor. Not on menú but can ask for them.
