Very happy with this auto repair shop. I have taken my vehicles there about 5 times over the last two years, and each time i was happy with the results. I took my Class C RV there today, and they actually had a lift large enought for my 24 foot RV. The labor cost was very reasonable. Dallas, the guy i spoke with, was knowledgable and friendly. I'm not sure if this review will show up because I don't remember the last time I reviewed anything. I was fortunate enough to meet David because a Jamulian broke down in my back yard. He drove here to help her and I saw him fix her starter in 1 minute. He had the parts already in his truck and I couldn't believe how fast he fixed it. So I asked him if he can re-bead my skid steer tire and fix the starter on it. He looked at it and said I'm sure I can fix it. He came the next day and took off the starter which was behind the engine and the tire in less than 40 minutes with his helper. He had the starter completely re-built and the tire re-beaded and a couple days later (on the weekend) he stopped by and re-installed both and helped me jump start my dead battery so we can test the starter. The fee for all of it was less than what Cat quoted me as the minimum fee just to send someone out to my house before he even touched the machine. David is a good, honest young man and deserves the recognition. I am so fortunate to have met David given the circumstances and I have already messaged as many people that I can to recommend him. read more

On the advice of a friend, I took my 8-year-old car to Dave for its 150k maintenance. He's really good about explaining the work he's going to do (and the problems he finds) without patronizing you, itemizes everything on the service order, and he gets the job done when he says he will. He also gave me a ride to the nearest restaurant so I could grab a bite and do some work while I waited. The price I ended up paying was very close to what I was quoted over the phone. Despite the drive, I'll be back again when my ride needs its maintenance. read more

Having lived in Jamul for a while I used to take all of my vehicles to Dave. For the most part the work he does is good. There were a few times where mechanical issues were diagnosed incorrectly but to his credit he did right by us. The one thing that really bothered us each time we gave Dave our business is that our cars always came back to us filthy, inside and out. Greasy finger prints all over the steering wheel and that "mechanic" smell inside. My truck was there for over a month one time and it was clearly stored outside during repairs as a bird found the time to nest under my hood. I was very tempted to rate 3 Stars. Dave, if you're reading this I would strongly suggest that you clean customer vehicles before returning them. I understand that you're not a detailing shop but there is a car wash down one block away. It really sucks getting your vehicle back dirty! read more

We have three vehicles and they won't go to any other shop. My 7.3 broke down again yesterday, and Matt waited at the shop until I arrived with the tow truck. Instead of going home once they closed Matt waited for me until I was picked up and my truck was situated. This afternoon my truck was ready. They are very communicative and professional at RJA. Dave and his team are fantastic. It's hard to find a mechanic that you feel is not going to take you for a ride, and although I like to think I know just enough about cars to not be an idiot, I still feel like some places try to talk mumble jumbo about my flux capacitors not fluxing, my pumps not pumping and pistons not pissing. I hate when that happens because I'm pretty sure the last one isn't even a real thing...But dave always manages to speak to me right at my level, somewhere just above kindergarten and just below high school auto shop drop out. It also helps that he's a local small business, and I'd rather put my money there than to those three weird cartoon characters from pepgirls manny mo and jack. (#genderflect google that) Plus since its Jamul, he takes payment in the local currency of chickens, sheep, and goats milk (but no cows milk, lactose intolerance thing I guess). If you're not from Jamul, his shop may be too far out of the way, but I'd say he's worth the drive (or tow, as the case may be) because even if he doesn't know you, he'll treat you right. Just tell him I sent you and that you saw my review and I'm pretty sure he'll give you like 87% off your next free tire refill or something, or at least not over charge you. read more

I've been a customer for years. Dave runs the most honest shop I've ever been to. I just recently had an oil change and Dave apprised me of what work needed to be done and what kind of time line I was looking at so I know that I have a repair in the offing and can set the money aside rather than be surprised later. All of the work that has been done on several different vehicles has been superb. Just a secret (not now) I came in one time when Dave was interviewing someone and he told them that they didn't "invent" repairs that there was enough honest work out there (sorry Dave). My husband and I have been taking our vehicles to Dave for as long as he has been in Jamul, quite some time. After my husband's death, Dave has been a life saver -- fix that, don't fix that, here's a cheaper place to do that, etc. I can run in and get a fast check on something that's bugging me or I can make a reservation to leave the car for a day or so for major work -- always done on time and close to the estimate. I won't go anywhere else . . . even though I live in Mexico and it's sometimes a real pain to drive up to Jamul! read more

We just moved to Jamul and were looking for a garage that we could trust. Check engine light came on 1 day and we were near RJAC also knowed as Rancho Jamul Auto Center. Pulled in and Dave looked and pulled a code. Small item NO CHARGE!!!! Got on the road in 10 min. Now I trust em for all our repairs. Been in 5 or 6 times in the last few weeks and all ways the same. Tells you in English what is wrong and several ways to repair. Prices seen good. Sometimes more than I would hope for but its done correctly. Sometimes its better to pay someone that knows what thy are doing rather then trying to save a few$$$. My lesson learned when trying to save money on my wife's brain surgery. Dave is who helped me dropped my car off two months ago just for a replacement seal after I Replaced the whole engine and every time I call back they have a new different problem and they don't know what it is. This place is not professional. They took my car for a test drive Now there's a knockin sound! Wish I never brought my car here I'm not paying a dime. Which I could give them zero stars. Have been coming to them for years. Dave was awesome and is very missed by the community. However since his passing I've had few good experiences here. Last time I took a vehicle here they charged me 600 dollars to "fix" the ac and check the check engine light. Came to get the vehicle and the ac did not run and the engine light was still on. They told me to bring it back in. However they charged me again to fix the ac and see if the engine was ok. Still neither issue was fixed. Ended up taking it to another mechanic who was able to solve the issue the first try instead of making me pay AGAIN. Felt like they took advantage of me being a young girl with little car experience by pretending to fix an issue and then making me pay to fix it again. What they did was wrong and I should have received at least some of my money back from the first time or not paid the second time. Will never go there again and will be sure to inform my friends. read more

I've had a lot of work done here and Dave has always been honest and never has ripped me on anything. He'll tell me how much the job is, and most the time his rates are good. I can say that his engine, and electrical work were priced well for me. The drivetrain labor prices on the other hand were a bit high for me, but 99% of the time I've been happy with his pricing on everything else. read more

Dave at Rancho Jamul Auto Care is amazing. I've been taking my car to him for over a decade. He has always treated me with the utmost respect and I trust him 100% to be honest and fair. He tells me in simple terms what repairs need to be done, how much it will cost, and how long I can afford to wait (e.g. whether it is dangerous or whether it's merely an annoyance that I can choose to live with). When I was in college, there were even times that I suspect he took a loss on work he did for me, because he knew I couldn't afford what it would actually cost and he genuinely cared about my safety. Even after we moved to central San Diego, my wife and I considered it a no-brainer to make the trek out to Jamul in order to continue bringing both our cars to him for regular maintenance and repairs. My parents now take their vehicles to him as well, and my father was a mechanic for 20 years - can't get a much better recommendation than that! read more

I don't ever write reviews, however I felt I needed to after taking my car to Dave at Rancho Jamul Auto Care. This guy is honest. My car is not fancy, and has over 150,000 miles on it. I told Dave that I did not want to put a ton of money into it if possible, and he gave me several options for my breaks - 1. cheap 2. middle of the road 3. expensive. He also told me I could nurse my car along before needing to replace my "rack and pinion." Worth the drive from Descanso after another shop in Alpine fell short in customer service. Check engine light was on and the other shop finally agreed to a courtesy scan to find out what the code was saying, and making me feel like I was a bother at 4pm. They tried to say my car was likely to leave me stranded and that it wasn't running right after driving it from one end of their small parking lot to the other end. Really? The one person who got in it didn't even think it would start. Hey it's a hybrid and doesn't make noise when you turn it on. They wouldn't give me a guesstimate and I said no problem, I will take it to Dave's Rancho Jamul Auto Care. They gave me the code for the oxygen sensor going bad and I called Dave. He gave me a guesstimate and price range and got me in his shop first thing in the morning. Thanks Dave for good old fashion customer service, not making me feel like my car would break down at any second and helping stay on schedule for my trip in two days. Only $246 to change out the sensor clean out the threads. Done by 9am! read more
