We've been wanting to try this restaurant as it is down the street from us, it was worth it. We were seated in the very back booth per our request. They had salsa music playing which was cool and something different. Our waitress came a few minutes later to take our drink order and brought the corn tortilla chips which were still warm and very fresh along with the fresh salsa and we asked for guacamole dip which was also fresh and delicious. We ordered our main course, I ordered the vegetable fajitas they came out piping hot so that was good and they had a wide variety of vegetables no complaints from me on that one. It also came with a good sized portion of refried beans shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes and sour cream along with the Spanish rice one of my all time favorite ways to eat rice. My fiancée ordered the shrimp/steak/chicken fajitas and that also came out piping hot along with the plate of toppings. He said his was delicious as well. The manager came over to ask us how our food was which we gave him honest feedback and said it was delicious. We opted out of dessert but they did have a variety of delicious looking options. We were hungry on an early Sunday evening and happened to be driving by Rancho Viejo- I had wanted to try out this Mexican restaurant- and not because they have a sign that says "Home of the $3.50 Margarita "! We were seated in your standard Mexican themed booth (I swear that all these Mexican restaurants buy their furniture from the same place). The chips and salsa were fantastic. My wife got the margarita- I had a Dos Equis with lime. The $3.50 marg wasn't bad- I tried a sip. We both ordered combination dishes. I had a corn and chicken tamal, beef burrito and bean and cheese cholupa with guacamole. For $12.99- nice price and very good food. My wife enjoyed her combination as well. The service was attentive and friendly. Food was great and the bill was pleasantly low. We will be back. read more

Worst Mexican restaurant experience. Raspberry tea was SUPER sweet, iced tea was basically slightly tan water. Salsa was literally Mexican fllavored tomato soup, guac was NOT fresh and runny. The queso was literally runny like milk and pretty sure it was cut with milk. The fajitas Texacan was supposed to be shrimp, chicken and beef. It came with two shrimp, clearly the frozen kind, chicken DRY as well as the beef and VERY, VERY salty. Taco shells fell apart. A lunch like this was $30! Furniture was dates, paint chipping and some tables chips out of the wood corners. Bathroom was dirty and the stall door came apart off the wall. Hard pass and won't ever be back. Pros: We tried the chipotle enchiladas and chorizo tacos. The chorizos were very flavorful and absolutely loved it! The enchiladas were delicious and super filling. Their chips and salsa was fresh and delicious. Overall, the food was packed with flavors and tasted fresh. Also, they have some taco Tuesday offers, which is pretty nice. Cons: The place was filled with fruit flies and that was unappetizing while eating. The house margaritas for 3.5 dollars had absolutely no potent in them. First time ever having Mexican in Rochester and boyy it was good! Hence the cleared out plates haha ; naw we were just so hungry we started eating and forgot to take pictures. Also only had a tiny bit of leftovers that we packed away. This restaurant has very detailed colorful paintings/carvings in the booth chairs/tables. The ambiance is very welcoming and the staff were great. Greeted us with a smile and were so nice to my son. Kept complimenting how cute he is and they just seemed like they enjoyed doing their job as waiters/waitresses. The staff we had took our order and made sure that it was made the way we asked. I ordered a grilled salmon taco with a side of rice and beans; my son got a beef taco with a side of fries. Our food was ready within 25mins and we had the complimentary chips and salsa while we waited. Hubbo has been OBSESSED with trying this place since it opened about a month and a half ago. They've been really busy so we finally made it at a time when we didn't have to wait. I will say, in general, the food was fine. We all have certain things that we tend to order at new Mexican restaurants to make general comparisons. Mine are the Carnitas. The flavor on these was pretty good but they were really wet. The combination sauce on the side was really good and they should consider giving a little lettuce tomato sidekick. So I have been waiting, almost stalking this restaurant while waiting for it to open. I love Mexican food and the location is so close to home for me. They have only been open for 5 days and that is evident, they still have many kinks to work out or perfect before they get a 5 star rating from me. The menu is huge! Different than your typical deep fried quesadilla I'm used to - this is pulled chicken with different types of queso too - a little on the watery side though. I ordered the pollo fundido something I have never ordered and I was pleasantly pleased - similar to the quesadilla but fried shells. My boyfriend got the primo burrito - it was a Mexican style burrito meaning melted to the plate unlike the American burritos you can eat with your two hands. the meat quality was comparable to authentic Mexican style and flavor as well. The service was good as we were in and out in y de an hour. However you could tell the server was new as he wasn't very familiar with the menu and it's thousands of offerings. He Was not used to refilling drinks condiments, place settings etc... without asking for them and never came to check on us. The last thing this place is missing is their liquor license. I will admit I haven't had much mexican food to compare it too...but from what I've had...it tasted about the same...maybe a little less saltier than the other places I've tried? That can be a good thing or a bad thing. I ordered the "el combo" and you get a burrito, a taco, a chile rellano, a chalupa, and rice n beans...LOVED IT... everything was fresh and tasted like what I would imagine it would taste like if I was invited over to a friend's house for dinner. Great new Mexican restaurant in Gates. Rancho Viejo is a repurposed Arby's across from Lyell Wegmans that has a large menu, warm chips and salsa (complimentary), and a friendly wait staff. I had the fajitas that were sizzling hot (almost a bit too much; some burned onto the skillet). The rest of my party had the enchiladas and cleaned their plates! My hubby and I took our 34 yr old son here who was visiting from Oklahoma on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. We ordered the 3 beef soft taco special and my hubby discovered a hard piece of dark green shell or stem about quarter size in his taco. As I was eating my taco I pulled a hair from my mouth that honestly wasn't sure if it was my own(??) we also ordered the $3.50 margaritas which tasted like lemonade without tequila! This is just an average Mexican restaurant at best. There is definitely better Mexican places in the area. One thing that I was a little frustrated with is they are not up front about having their liquor license yet. So after we sat for about 5 mins eating our chips and salsa looking over the drink menu, our waiter finally decided to tell us they are not serving alcohol yet. So if your hoping for a margarita I would call and ask if they have their liquor license. read more

This review is based solely on customer service. We placed a lunch order for 5 people and only received 3 of the 5 orders. Those of you picking up lunch orders know how frustrating that can be. When I called to report the issue the person who answered said I'm confident I gave you the entire order. Nope. This is not convenient for me at all!! I have to drive back and 2 people didn't get to enjoy their lunch with the others. If that wasn't bad enough, the nachos that were picked up in the second trip were cold and the nachos were soggy. Almost like they've been sitting there for 20 min. hmmmm.... at the end of the day, mistakes are made. Own it! Make up for it! And move on. But never, EVER serve soggy nachos. read more

This restaurant has it all. When you walk in you are meet with smiling faces and excellent customer service. The restaurant is brightly colored and very clean. Our server's name was Alba (spelling may be incorrect). She was very pleasant and met our every need with an excellent attitude. I ordered the chili verde plate. I'm somewhat of a connoisseur of chili verde and this was one of the best I've ever eaten. The habanero salsa was outstanding. All the food was absolutely beyond our expectations. I went there Sunday because I heard they serve menudo on weekends. I asked for the price without looking at a menu first because that's all I wanted... that and a cup of coffee. When the server said price was $22 I asked if that was on the menu because I couldn't believe they were charging that much. She said it wasn't on the menu. She didn't give me the menu but I didn't mind because I then asked for breakfast tacos with chorizo and eggs in flour tortillas and a cup of coffee. She said I had to buy the meal that came with rice and beans. I said I didn't want rice and beans so she gave me an extra taco (I asked for a bean taco). What I got was three chorizo tacos topped with chopped onions and cilantro... no eggs. I told the server I was expecting egg/chorizo tacos. She brought the manager. He said they don't make breakfast tacos. I told him that the server should have said so. He did offer me something else. I said no. The coffee was great served with creamers and real sugar (refined) in a plastic container. They didn't have substitute sugar. I ordered a slice of banana cake. Not good, not fresh. I ate half. They charged me for a coffee refill (another #3.50). I couldn't believe it. The server brought the head server who wasn't sympathetic. Her response was that they made changes. Free refills only on soft drinks. I told her that the server should have told me because a free refill is standard at most places. She asked if I had read the menu. As I said, I was never given a menu., but even if I had read the menu I would not have checked for the price of coffee to check on refills. I told her in most places a free refill of coffee is standard. I wonder if their menu states "no free coffee refills." I went in wanting a simple bowl of menudo and coffee. Wow, $30 plus $4 for tip (It was a compromise between $5 and 0 tip). I didn't feel I should penalize the server. She doesn't make policy although she should have understood when I asked for breakfast tacos of chorizo and eggs. I won't go there again because of their prices, food quality not up to what I'm used to in Texas, and attitude. P.S. I asked for a to-go cup for my remaining coffee (since I paid an extra $3.50 for it), and I got a clear plastic up for cold drinks. Fortunately, my coffee had cooled off. read more

I went twice: once on a weeknight and again on a saturday night (same week) with different parties. Food was very good on both occasions. The rice is excellent/very authentic (I am Mexican descent and grew up on Mexican rice). For both visits ,our server Juan was very pleasant. However, the rest of our experience was very different. On my first visit, we were welcomed warmly and seated promptly. Very different on our second visit (weekend night). Staff very unprofessional (could hear them carrying on in the kitchen...even throughout dinner). We waited a very long time to be seated (we were only ones waiting and many tables available). Other servers would see us and just keep going ...we almost just left. Then one server judt pops out of kitchen (like someone pushed her )...she was laughing out loud....saw us and finally seated us. Service was much slower than weekday experience, but he was pleasant. We listened to the "carrying on", with a lot of banter, from the kitchen throughout dinner (very annoying). I really desperately wanted to like this place because my favorite Mexican restaurant is closed on Mondays. While the food may taste good, we had a terrible experience. My food came out with the incorrect type of meat in my enchilada and taco, not once, but two times. We then found a hair in my boyfriend's food. At this point, we were so grossed out we didn't want to eat anymore, so I just canceled my order.
