This is my favorite sushi place to go because I don't eat fish. I only eat vegetarian sushi and they have a beautiful yam sushi roll as well as a mango sushi roll. I seem to have trouble finding vegetarian rolls and if I do find them at other places, they're never the quality of this one. The ambience is very small. Came in on Saturday at 6pm and we were the only table. There was only one person serving and we were told to sit anywhere . Menus, water, and food came out quickly but within a few bites, I can see why. At first glance we can appreciate that the nigiri had a very small amount of rice , for those of us who are watching our carb intake. But after a few bites I realized the fish was just as thinly sliced that it looked misleadingly portioned in photos. The quality of the fish was well below average and I had to spit out the Ika (squid) nigiri and the ebi (shrimp) and tako (octopus) nigiri was rubbery and tasteless . For $30 this nigiri set was a waste of money. Don't order it. Maybe the other reviewers had better luck with the cooked or baked items but for us today the sushi was just grocery store level . I could get the same level of freshness from Hmart or better at Mitsuwa. We decided to give this restaurant a chance because it's a small business that looks cozy and family owned, but clearly the food is what keeps hungry customers returning , not the size of the business or the ambiance. My partners favorite was the sushi burrito, a thinly wrapped tortilla with imitation crab and spicy tuna, no rice. We saw no one tried it and we were the first on Yelp at least, and it blew his mind. We also got the Lion King and Amigo, which he also enjoyed as well. I got the hamachi maki and sake maki which I enjoyed, the hamachi did have some parts that were hard to chew but otherwise okay. I picked this spot cause it was 10 minutes away from my friend's place and it had pretty good reviews overall so I had high hopes for it, but was left disappointed. I had my phone out with my order receipt so I was just waiting for them to be done, but then a man who looked like the owner, walked out from the back to take a look around the restaurant. We made eye contact so I told him I was here for an online order. Showed him my phone and he didn't say a single word throughout the interaction and just pointed to the furthest table by the front of the restaurant and then just walks away to the back of the restaurant. I walked over to that table that he pointed at and looked at the packaged order and saw a receipt attached to it with my info so I just grabbed it and left. This interaction alone rubbed me the wrong way. It's my first time here so I didn't know what the process was for online pick ups and even if it wasn't my first time, he could've been more inviting and not be so rude and unfriendly to a paying customer. Anyways, I brought the food back to my friend's place and we unpacked everything and started to chow down. The rolls looked pretty, but not one single item stood out to me. It was all very very bland. :/ Out of all the rolls, I think the Lion King roll had the most flavor but the salmon on top of the roll was so tough and dry, even with the sauce on top. Not sure if this was an off day for them or not but like I said, I'll definitely not be coming back because there's plenty of other better sushi spots around here.
