miso roasted mushrooms and chips for the ceviche
    Jai C.

We went here for a weekday dinner and had a blast. Food - we had several appetizers and one main that we all shared, there were 3 of us. We ordered the shrimp & scallop ceviche (perfect balance of tangy and slightly sweet), bangbang chicken (a little spice but not too much), Miso roasted mushroom (just okay), truffle parmesan fries (just okay), lobster spaghetti (lots of lobster pieces and flavorful), and for dessert, we had the tap that cake (we loved this) and half of Creme Brulee Cheesecake (just okay). Service - the five stars is because of the excellent service. We felt like the staff are genuinely friendly and actually look you in the eyes when talking you, and their smiles seem genuine to everyone (not just to the "right" people, if you know you know). Sofia is our server and she's the best, very attentive and friendly even with a lot of people. Ambiance - loved the ambiance, noise level just okay considering the place is full For me Service comes first before everything else, if an establishment gives you good service, food suddenly becomes flavorful.

Came for the drinks (the peach bellini), stayed for the vibes! It was a lot bigger than I had thought with 2 stories, and really great energy/aesthetics inside. We walked in on a Sat evening and got bar seating upstairs with no wait, those who were waiting for a table seemed to have access to complimentary bubblies. Ordered the peach bellini and a watermelon cocktail - peach bellini lived to the hype and will definitely come back to reorder, will skip watermelon cocktail next time. For food, we were coming for a post-dinner treat, so just ordered the crispy sushi rice with salmon/tuna - the crispy rice was wayy too hard and too much rice to fish ratio. Food is definitely very Americanized Asian fusion for this dish at least. It also took a long time for our food to come, but our bartender was really attentive and proactively helped us rush the food without us asking. Overall, will definitely come back if just for the peach bellini, and especially excited to try their happy hour menu.

The food is delicious! We had made reservations to eat upstairs, when we got here we were greeted right away and offered champagne or sparkling tea while we waited for our table. Loved the sparkling tea. The restaurant is so nice, open concept. Somewhat outdoors. The cauliflower appetizer was delicious, such a good flavor. I also loved the spaghetti pomodoro, fresh and the presentation was beautiful. Nice staff, slow service, took awhile for our order to arrive. Also, took awhile to close out our check we were just sitting waiting alot. Great desserts! The Tap that cake is the best!

If we're going strictly off vibes, 5 stars! Great ambiance and their rooftop is literally the cutest spot for happy hour, drinks, dinners and date nights. With that said though, this is my second time at Joeys for dinner and both times, the dinner/entrees have only been OK. The spaghetti pomodoro was barely al dente and the noodles stuck together - likely not stirred while boiling. The lobster spaghetti also had more shrimp than lobster. The sea bass was good though! Crispy nigiri is OK, rice was a little mushy so it sticks to your teeth even though it's crispy on the outside. I'd come back for happy hour strictly. Great deals, guac is yummy, truffle fries were a hit, and I'm hoping to try their prime rib sandwich next time. Joey is worth the visit forsure if you're looking for a cute spot to take photos with the girls or for a date.

I came here on a Sunday evening with a few gal pals. My friend already made a reservation for us so we were just probably seated in the waiting area and even offered a couple of bubbles. We were seated in a hybrid booth and chair area where our server quickly came to check in on us and let us have a moment to order. The ambience was pretty loud surprisingly or maybe because the group we were seated nearby just happened to be loud because I unintentionally heard every single thing they had to say. Despite the crowd that was seated by us is the overall ambience of Joey was not quiet or calm so if you're looking to hang out with friends or family or even just having a more outgoing date with the partner, then this place is perfect, but otherwise, if you're looking for a more romantic space and I don't really recommend it. Our food came out pretty quick where we ordered steak frites and a Mediterranean bowl. I personally enjoyed my steak and was very surprised at how tender the meat was even though it was only 5 ounces and it was cooked well done. The fries were pretty good and not too crunchy which I like but then again you can't really mess up rice. To balance the meat and fries, the sour and freshness of the arugula salad was a nice balance between the two. Overall, the steak frites was pretty basic but good. I didn't eat the Mediterranean bowl, but my friend who did order it say it was really good! The price point at Joey is definitely on the pricier side so this is a great place to go out to every now and then especially if you just wanna have a girls night owl but otherwise I would not go here so often.

Came here for a work event. Great service! The ambiance was nice too. They give you a drink while you wait to be seated. Got the following appetizers for sharing: spicy crab dip korean fried cauliflower szechuan chicken lettuce wrap Thought the appetizers were just ok. For main, I ordered the steak & lobster tail. It was pretty decent. For desserts, got the following: butter cake creme brûlée cheesecake I liked the butter cake more as it came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and some strawberry sauce. Great dessert to end the meal!

My friend and I came here to celebration a birthday and I definitely see why this spot is popular-- the interior is absolutely stunning, especially the upstairs seating area For dishes, my friend and I shared their miso mushrooms and spicy crab dip. Both were great but the mushrooms were our favorite (definitely would reorder) I also ordered the low alcohol lychee cocktail, but unfortunately it did taste a bit watered down so I probably would skip on this one next time For mains, my friend and I both ordered the sea bass which we both enjoyed -- I appreciate that they broiled it for some added texture There was great service throughout the meal, and we had multiple servers check in on us. They also gave me a complimentary cheesecake for my birthday which tasted great as well I will say that the portions did feel a little smaller for the price but overall still really enjoyed my experience:)

Joeys was great! My husband took me out to Joeys to celebrate a milestone together. We had reservations for dinner on a weekday, but still noticed that there was quite a bit of a wait (we waited another 20-30 mins after our reservation time), but they do provide guests who are waiting with either a NA or alcoholic wine. Once we got seated, service was great. Albeit inside felt a little bit cramped with the amount of seats and tables, but our servers did a great job of checking in on us during the night. We ordered the crab meat dip, steak frites, and the truffle udon carbonara. Absolutely loved the crab meat dip, fries with our steak was very crispy, and the udon carbonara was great. A great spot for a place to celebrate milestones, catching up with friends, or a nice little date night.

It's located in Valley Fair next to King's Fish House. The ambience is awesome. Upstairs has a gigantic bar and it's brighter than downstairs but only 21+ is allowed. They have an outdoor seating area too upstairs. We came to celebrate a birthday and ordered the following dishes: - Scallop & Shrimp Ceviche: Very pretty dish. Flavors is disappointing. I've had better ones at other restaurants. - Miso Roasted Mushroom: Very good and delicious with umami flavor. Will order this again - Truffle Parmesan Fries: Pretty good. Fries are crispy with truffle flavor. - Crispy Tofu Bowl: The Worst dish. Tofu pieces are too small and all you eat is the crust exterior without much tofu inside. The flavor of the dish isn't that good either. Can't taste any miso flavor in the carrot miso dressing. The coconut jasmine rice doesn't have any coconut taste. Don't order this dish and save yourself some money. - Seared Salmon Sushi: Flavorful and it melts in your mouth. The ratio of the salmon and rice is a bit off though, IMHO, too much rice and not much salmon. - Truffle Udon Carbonara with Chicken Katsu: The udon is cooked well and it's very flavorful. However the chicken katsu is too dry and disappointing. Will order this again without chicken katsu. - Sake Glazed Chillean Seabass: The fish melts in your mouth and it's delicious. The best dish. - Herb Crush Salmon: Fish is cooked well but there is no taste despite with all the herbs on top. I wonder if the chef forgot to put any seasonings on the fish. This dish looks better than it tastes. In short, the seabass and the udon carbonara (skip the chicken katsu) dishes are the best. Service is disappointing. After we ordered appetizers, we had to ask a few times for silverwares and small plates. Our waitress should have brought those to us automatically without us having to ask so many times. Also, she didn't come check on us to see if we need anything at all. We always have to waive down other waitresses to get us drink refills, get serving spoons or other requests. For this type of restaurant and the price they charge for food, service is not up-to-par. Even if you have reservations, be prepared to wait for another 15+ mins outside.

Happy Hour at Joey Such a great spot to walk in for delicious food and drinks while taking a break from shopping at Valley Fair. The service was attentive and friendly, and they even offered sparkling wine or tea as a welcome drink while we waited for the rest of our group to arrive. I also really enjoyed the refreshing non-alcoholic beverages from TOST. Food-wise, the quality was consistently great across every dish we tried. Some of my favorites included the Szechuan tofu lettuce wraps (the sauce was incredibly flavorful!), the spicy crab dip (loaded with crab and shrimp, served with perfectly grilled sourdough), the prime rib sandwich (the in-house slow-roasted prime rib was very juicy; they're usually only available during lunch, but luckily they still had some left that evening!), and the molten chocolate cake (light, airy, and silky smooth with a rich chocolate sauce). The restaurant is spacious with two floors, a modern design, and plenty of greenery throughout. Such a lovely atmosphere for catching up with friends and family!

Updated review: 1 year later. I had an extremely improved experience at Joey's. I think it's become an annual birthday celebration for me! I frequent the LA locations and I've been to this one once, with disappointing experience. Their staff is exceptional and they are always looking the best! I love the ambiance as usual. I love their seared salmon sushi and peach bellinis, had to get that along with the complimentary champagne we received upon walking in. Our server was really sweet and attentive to our needs, she was on top of everything despite her busy section on a Friday night. The crowd here is mixed with families and younger people. Food ratings Truffle fries - perfection! 10/10 Steak - cooked medium well like I asked, good flavor 7.5/10 Szechuan chicken wraps - probably my favorite 10/10 Steak with au ju, greens, and fries - my friend loved it! 10/10 To end the night, we were given a half order of crème brûlée which was truly amazing. As a crème brûlée enthusiast I enjoyed it and appreciated the writing. I recommend making a reservation online, prior to coming in although I'm sure they accept walk-ins. Not sure what their peak dining times are, I used OpenTable.

Seafood dip 4/5 - very tasty! Good starter and doesn't feel too greasy Blackened chicken 4/5 - it has good flavor but too salty. Mixed with the dressed vegetables on the bottom, it was way too salty.

JOEY Valley Fair is probably San Jose's hottest, bougiest spot right now -- and it lives up to the hype. The venue is stunning day or night. During the day, you can see straight through the restaurant through their floor-to-ceiling glass windows (they'll bring the shades down on hot days). Inside, think modern wine cellar: dark, woody, with dim lights glowing all around. At night it gets even more magical -- the surrounding buildings turn practically translucent and the interior lights create a whole mood. The experience starts before you're even seated. While you wait, the staff comes around with champagne or a non-alcoholic beverage, and the wait usually isn't long anyway (still, make a reservation). The whole team is as polished as the space, and service is attentive and friendly throughout. Now the food. The Truffle Parmesan Fries are a must -- I get them every time, and the mayo sauce they come with pairs perfectly. The Truffle Udon Carbonara is really good; the egg yolk, bacon, and dashi truffle cream sauce come together beautifully. The Sake Glazed Chilean Seabass is another winner -- tender, flaky (exactly how seabass should be), served with wok-fired vegetables, gold potatoes, and dashi. And the JOEY Classic Steak is solid and well-seasoned, but the star of that plate is the fully loaded crispy mashed potatoes -- basically loaded mashed potatoes wrapped in an eggroll. Unique and delicious, you have to try it. It's on the pricier end (mains start around $25+), but for the experience, it's worth it. This is my go-to for celebrations and for wowing out-of-towners -- it impresses every single time. Pro tip: park in the indoor lot next to Bank of America and you can walk directly through the mall to get there. Parking is usually not an issue.

Ask the Community - JOEY Valley Fair

Has anyone reserved the private room?

yes i inquired and as of June 2026 there's a min food and beverage spend of $1750, or they have set menus you can select from!

Can I reserve a table via yelp?

    No, Open Table.

    Has anyone brought kids?

Yes not myself but dining there, I have seen plenty of children. They have a 2 floors of dining and kids are welcomed. It is also casual wear.

What's the dinner wait time like for Friday without a reservation?

Depends on the Friday. LOL. I hope you don't take offense to this, but I would say on average, it's over an hour wait time.

Does the sushi have alcohol in the rice?

It's sashimi so no rice and no alcohol

What's the dress code for this restaurant?

Definitely casual. I've been to the Joey's throughout Canada and in SOCAL and depending on the location, time of day and the purpose of you going, casual to smart casual. I recently went for lunch where I wore a nice solid color t-shirt, nice shorts…

Are outside food allowed like a birthday cake?

I would call the restaurant and ask.

    When is happy hour?

Monday - Thursday from 3:00pm - 6:00pm at the bar or lounge area.

Do they offer a different complimentary drink if you don't drink alcohol?

Yes they also offer sparkling water.

    Are dogs allowed outdoor seating?

    No, dogs are not allowed.

Hi Team, is there a working elevator to the 2nd floor for handicapped people? I saw an elevator door on the 2nd floor but not a working elevator entrance on the ground floor.

No, it is STILL out of order as of 5/27/25, been out for at least a week. Not good for those w mobility problems

Anyone know how much they charge for corkage fees? Thank you

$65 for this Joey location, but remember corkage fees are a courtesy, which are charged when a customer brings their own bottle of wine to a full table service restaurant, are a way for the restaurant to recoup potential lost revenue from not…

How long is the wait for party of 3 without reservation on a weekday evening?

About an hour or so. If you go around five, it's not as bad.

    Can you do reservation?

Yes, you can book a reservation on their website seen in the business info section.

We ordered both of the bruschettas in the starters section (honeycomb burrata and porcini pate) and I was a bit surprised they came on untoasted bread because I'd been picturing baguette slices. They were both tasty because it's hard to go wrong with an umami ingredient like pate but if I really think about it, both of these dishes were things anyone could throw together. There wasn't any special seasoning made by the restaurant or anything. For entrees, we ordered the Paris by night truffle lover bifteak (filet mignon with truffle cheese on sweet potato) which was just okay. We ordered medium rare but the entire thing was a bit chewy and slightly dry. Could taste the truffle on the Parmesan cheese when alone but not when eaten with the sweet potato. The Persian saffron gheymeh lamb ossobuco (lamb shank with stew and dill basmati rice) was delicious though! Lamb was incredibly tender and savory and the spiced split-pea saffron stew went well with the fluffy rice. We'll probably return to try the recommended cod and tiramisu because overall it was pretty good.

Kind, friendly, and super attentive in a way that elevated our experience. We also noticed that Alexis carried this same positive energy to all table. The food... I said . We started with a dozen raw and a 4-piece Rockefeller. The raw were delicious, little to no shell bits, but the Rockefeller... Wow! Suffice it to say that after we each had our first rockefeller, we promptly ordered a 1/2 dozen more. For drinks we went with a bottle of The decor is warm and intimate and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Thanks to Alexis for excellent service, unfortunately unusual these days. I have never once been disappointed with a dish, and I love trying new dishes on their menu. The staff is awesome, and the place has a cool astehtic vibe. I highly recommend, just know that it is a bit pricey but the experience is totally worth it. P.S. they give you palate cleaners snack in between courses for free. They also gave us a complimentary caviar cone, which was such a nice surprise and was savory and delicious. We also tried the bruschetta, which was super yummy, along with the octopus, which was flavorful and cooked perfectly. I came back a second time with my best friend and we ordered the New York strip. Unfortunately, that was the one disappointment. The meat was pretty tough and not nearly as tender as I would have expected, especially considering the overall quality of the restaurant. The cocktails, however, are amazing! The ambience is beautiful and the service has been wonderful both times I've visited. Overall, I really enjoyed both experiences and would definitely come back. The only reason I'm giving 4 out of 5 stars instead of 5 is because of the quality of the steak on my second visit.

The gentleman serving us, who was wearing a black Mexico jersey, took our table but then disappeared for an extended period of time and never checked back on us. He seemed disoriented and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. His behavior and demeanor made us uncomfortable and left us feeling neglected as customers. After waiting quite a while, I had to get up and ask another employee for assistance. I believe her name was Michelle. She was incredibly sweet, attentive, and helpful, and she did her best to turn the experience around. Her customer service was excellent and was the only positive part of our visit. That said, the service at the beginning was completely unacceptable. Management should address situations like this, as customers should not have to wonder whether employees are drinking while on the job.

It's such a cozy spot to hang out, and the vibe was perfect for a relaxed evening. The meatballs were especially delicious -- definitely recommend ordering them. What really stood out, though, was the service after my visit. I accidentally left my backpack there on Saturday and didn't realize until later. Even though they're closed on Sundays and Mondays, Tina went above and beyond to help me get it back. She responded to my email on Sunday and coordinated everything so I could retrieve my belongings. That level of care and responsiveness is rare and meant so much to me. I'm incredibly grateful and will absolutely be back. Great food, great wine, great music, and truly wonderful people.
