I've been coming to Joey Valley fair for the past year, and despite one concern during my most recent visit, I'm still giving the restaurant 5 stars because the food, atmosphere, and overall experience have consistently been excellent. My first visit was on my birthday last October, and we had such a wonderful experience upstairs. Brendon from Guard at Grace went out of his way to get us a table and helped make my birthday special. Since then, I've returned probably eight or more times, with groups of 14+ people, with my family, my husband, the kids, and friends. That should say a lot about how much I enjoy Joey. I came in with my husband last night, September 20, and the food was once again amazing. We've had almost every appetizer on the menu in the past, and I always order the lobster spaghetti, which I absolutely love. The one thing I wanted to mention is something I noticed with the beverage service. In the past, I've always been greeted at the front door with a complimentary half glass of champagne, which is such a nice touch and really sets the tone for the experience. My husband doesn't drink, so he usually gets sparkling water. Last night, the server was very friendly, but she specifically said, "May I pour you one ounce of champagne?" I have to be honest, that wording completely changed the feeling of what has always been a lovely little gesture. The complimentary champagne may be a small detail, but it creates a sense of generosity and hospitality when you first walk through the door. Specifically limiting it to one ounce and calling attention to the exact amount made the experience feel unnecessarily restrictive and, quite frankly, cheapened what had previously felt like a special touch. Later, I ordered a large glass of Cabernet. The server brought the bottle over and explained that there was a specific line on the glass and poured just underneath it. She also mentioned that she had been instructed not to pour any more and could get in trouble if she did. I completely understand that restaurants have policies and portion controls, and I have no issue with that. My concern is more about how those policies are communicated to the guest. At a restaurant of Joey's caliber, I don't think the guest should be made to feel that every small pour is being closely monitored. It takes away from the feeling of hospitality that has always made Joey such a great experience for me. I'm assuming there may have been some changes in management or new policies being enforced, and I hope the general manager sees this feedback in the spirit in which it's intended. These may seem like very small details, but they make a difference in the overall guest experience. We still had a wonderful evening, and I will absolutely continue coming back. The food is fantastic, the restaurant is beautiful, and Joey has consistently been one of my favorite places to dine. I'm giving Joey 5 stars because of the many wonderful experiences I've had there. I simply hope the small touches that make guests feel welcomed and valued continue to be treated as an important part of the Joey experience. Loved that extra service provided, really bumps the hospitality and 'upscale' vibe. There were some couches and chairs by the waiting area outside, but there wasn't enough. It was okay though, we sipped our drink and was seated in less than five minutes. We had a shift change between our dinners, but there was no change in prompt service and follow ups. We got the watermelon smash and pandan drink to start There are so many options that looked delicious on the menu, but we eventually settled on the beef carpaccio, the spicy crab dip, and the lobster spaghetti Both drinks are very yummy -- I found out later they are on the low proof part of the drink menu. Wagyu beef carpaccio was definitely my favorite, and actually surpassed my expectations! All the ingredients that were on top of the beef complimented well. It definitely hit all the taste and texture senses that I love. Crunchy Parmesan crispies, juicy tomatoes, pickled onions, peppery arugula, and smooth buttery beef The spicy crab dip is pretty good, but I think the flavor gets too rich after a while. it's pretty filling, and umami from the crab. It needed something contrasty to offset the fatty and salt. The lobster spaghetti was enjoyable as well. I liked the buttery white wine sauce and the thick pieces of lobster that were scattered in the noodles. Wished we got the steak and lobster instead of only lobster for more contrast. Started off with a drink and appetizer. The spicy crab dip was sooo good. Their bread was nicely toasted and still easy to bite into. They gave plenty of crab dip for each bread piece. The Coconut Smash drink definitely surprised me. There's a lot more liquid to it and you can compared to the Supernova which was actually sweet. The Steak and Ravioli was my favorite. The steak cooked medium was tender and juicy and if you needed more flavor, the ravioli sauce was there too. They also added shrimp on top of each ravioli which was neat. I'll admit I came into this dinner a little skeptical because I did not have a good experience at JOEY the last time I visited last Father's Day. This visit completely changed my impression. We were greeted with a complimentary TOST to start, which was such a nice touch, and our service throughout the evening was excellent--friendly, attentive, and well-paced. We shared the chicken wings and spicy crab dip, and both were delicious. The crab dip with the grilled bread was especially good. For our entrées, one friend ordered the truffle udon, another had the Baja fish tacos, and I ordered the steak and lobster spaghetti. Mine was outstanding. The steak was beautifully cooked, there was plenty of lobster, and the pasta with tomatoes and basil was flavorful without feeling overly heavy. It was one of those dishes where I was very happy with my ordering decision! Great food, great service, and an overall fun dinner. With being one of the highest rated & reviewed restaurants in the Silicon Valley I was excited to take my girlfriend here for our first time and to celebrate her birthday. Unfortunately I left the restaurant feeling a little bit bummed out. We checked in with the host, told her the special occasion (a birthday, that was also noted in our Yelp reservation) and we were led to complementary sparkling tea shortly after, which was very awesome. Their seating choice for us had us in a booth which made us very glad. For food we ordered the truffle fries and spicy crab dip for our appetizers and the JOEY Fajitas to share as our main entree. The truffle fries wasn't anything too crazy, very similar to ones you'd find elsewhere. The Spicy Crab dip was very delicious to me, though me and my lady wished the bread wasn't as crunchy as ours was. We both really enjoyed the chicken fajitas we ordered and thought the amount of food was perfect for us two. Unfortunately Joey is on strike 2 for me :( Strike 1: Came in for happy hour. Bar downstairs was packed so they told us to go upstairs. Upstairs they said it's a 15 min wait but will get our drink orders started so we don't miss happy hour. After waiting 30 mins and watching multiple parties go ahead of us we asked the host about our table and ordering drinks. She said she didn't know how but would look into it. 40 mins in someone took our drink orders (still no table) 60 mins in we still didn't have our drinks or a table so we left. 20 mins after they call asking if I want my table. This was on a Wednesday BTW. Strike 2: Came in Saturday. The host was REALLY nice. We got sat quickly, at what seemed like the only table in the restaurant in direct sunlight despite many other tables being open. We ordered our food and drinks. The person who dropped off our drinks spilled not one but BOTH espresso martinis. We told her it was fine but then she didn't offer to clean it up so we had to flag someone down to get napkins. We ordered our food and one of the items was the chicken katsu salad. It came out with no chicken, so we told the food runner. After a whole 10 mins server comes back and says she forgot to ring in the chicken but don't worry it's coming. Chicken eventually comes out and it was great but by that time our salad (plus us) were baking in the sun. You can only imagine the shock on my face when our bill had a separate charge that was added on for the late chicken. I used to rave about Joey being worth the money but after two bad experiences in a row I can't say I'll be coming back, especially at the price point. I hate doing lower score reviews, but I guess experiences change from time. This is my 4th time here, but it's been a good six to eight months since I last visited. Still I chose to come here for my birthday. The first thing I noticed changed is that there was no more complimentary champagne when you enter. There is complimentary tea, which tasted fine, but there was something special about that champagne. Still, this is only a minor issue. After we got seated is where things kinda went south. Our waitress seemed to just not be in the right head space. It's obvious she didn't want to be there that day and was very abrupt and was just doing the job for the sake of doing it. After her initial greeting, we didn't see her for over 15 minutes to order drinks and then it was another 20 after before we actually got them. We ordered some food for the kids to get out quickly, but they took awhile to come out as well. I'm not sure if it was just an off day, but it was a disappointing experience. With that said though, this is my second time at Joeys for dinner and both times, the dinner/entrees have only been OK. The spaghetti pomodoro was barely al dente and the noodles stuck together - likely not stirred while boiling. The lobster spaghetti also had more shrimp than lobster. The sea bass was good though! Crispy nigiri is OK, rice was a little mushy so it sticks to your teeth even though it's crispy on the outside. I'd come back for happy hour strictly. Great deals, guac is yummy, truffle fries were a hit, and I'm hoping to try their prime rib sandwich next time. I came here on a Sunday evening with a few gal pals. My friend already made a reservation for us so we were just probably seated in the waiting area and even offered a couple of bubbles. We were seated in a hybrid booth and chair area where our server quickly came to check in on us and let us have a moment to order. The ambience was pretty loud surprisingly or maybe because the group we were seated nearby just happened to be loud because I unintentionally heard every single thing they had to say. Despite the crowd that was seated by us is the overall ambience of Joey was not quiet or calm so if you're looking to hang out with friends or family or even just having a more outgoing date with the partner, then this place is perfect, but otherwise, if you're looking for a more romantic space and I don't really recommend it. Our food came out pretty quick where we ordered steak frites and a Mediterranean bowl. I personally enjoyed my steak and was very surprised at how tender the meat was even though it was only 5 ounces and it was cooked well done. The fries were pretty good and not too crunchy which I like but then again you can't really mess up rice. To balance the meat and fries, the sour and freshness of the arugula salad was a nice balance between the two. Overall, the steak frites was pretty basic but good. I didn't eat the Mediterranean bowl, but my friend who did order it say it was really good! The price point at Joey is definitely on the pricier side so this is a great place to go out to every now and then especially if you just wanna have a girls night owl but otherwise I would not go here so often. read more

They have an outdoor seating area too upstairs. We came to celebrate a birthday and ordered the following dishes: - Scallop & Shrimp Ceviche: Very pretty dish. Flavors is disappointing. I've had better ones at other restaurants. - Miso Roasted Mushroom: Very good and delicious with umami flavor. Will order this again - Truffle Parmesan Fries: Pretty good. Fries are crispy with truffle flavor. - Crispy Tofu Bowl: The Worst dish. Tofu pieces are too small and all you eat is the crust exterior without much tofu inside. The flavor of the dish isn't that good either. Can't taste any miso flavor in the carrot miso dressing. The coconut jasmine rice doesn't have any coconut taste. Don't order this dish and save yourself some money. - Seared Salmon Sushi: Flavorful and it melts in your mouth. The ratio of the salmon and rice is a bit off though, IMHO, too much rice and not much salmon. - Truffle Udon Carbonara with Chicken Katsu: The udon is cooked well and it's very flavorful. However the chicken katsu is too dry and disappointing. Will order this again without chicken katsu. - Sake Glazed Chillean Seabass: The fish melts in your mouth and it's delicious. The best dish. - Herb Crush Salmon: Fish is cooked well but there is no taste despite with all the herbs on top. I wonder if the chef forgot to put any seasonings on the fish. This dish looks better than it tastes. In short, the seabass and the udon carbonara (skip the chicken katsu) dishes are the best. Service is disappointing. After we ordered appetizers, we had to ask a few times for silverwares and small plates. Our waitress should have brought those to us automatically without us having to ask so many times. Also, she didn't come check on us to see if we need anything at all. We always have to waive down other waitresses to get us drink refills, get serving spoons or other requests. For this type of restaurant and the price they charge for food, service is not up-to-par. Even if you have reservations, be prepared to wait for another 15+ mins outside. read more

Happy Hour at Joey Such a great spot to walk in for delicious food and drinks while taking a break from shopping at Valley Fair. The service was attentive and friendly, and they even offered sparkling wine or tea as a welcome drink while we waited for the rest of our group to arrive. I also really enjoyed the refreshing non-alcoholic beverages from TOST. Food-wise, the quality was consistently great across every dish we tried. Some of my favorites included the Szechuan tofu lettuce wraps (the sauce was incredibly flavorful!), the spicy crab dip (loaded with crab and shrimp, served with perfectly grilled sourdough), the prime rib sandwich (the in-house slow-roasted prime rib was very juicy; they're usually only available during lunch, but luckily they still had some left that evening!), and the molten chocolate cake (light, airy, and silky smooth with a rich chocolate sauce). The service was very friendly though I do think they should partake in using square to make it easier for the waiters as a former waiter. The food was very good and I really enjoyed the carbonara udon BUT, what keeps it from being 5 stars for me was the ravioli. While the actual ravioli was good and the steak was well cooked ( medium rare ) the sauce did not pair with the ravioli in my opinion and actually contradicted the filling. It was essentially a take on a kinda savory - sour kinda contrast that didn't perform well in my opinion. It was labeled as a truffle sauce but didn't really taste any truffle tbh. First time dining at Joey, and it definitely did not disappoint! We made a reservation a few days in advance, and everything was smooth from the moment we arrived. Since we got there a little early, we were welcomed with a complimentary sparkling drink. I don't drink alcohol, so I really appreciated the non-alcoholic sparkling tea, it was a great touch. Throughout our meal, the staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel well taken care of. The food, desserts, and non-alcoholic drinks were all delicious. We chose to sit outside, which made for a relaxing evening with the beautiful weather. Overall, it was a fantastic first experience, and we'll definitely be back. Highly recommend! read more

Updated review: 1 year later. I had an extremely improved experience at Joey's. I think it's become an annual birthday celebration for me! I frequent the LA locations and I've been to this one once, with disappointing experience. Their staff is exceptional and they are always looking the best! I love the ambiance as usual. I love their seared salmon sushi and peach bellinis, had to get that along with the complimentary champagne we received upon walking in. Our server was really sweet and attentive to our needs, she was on top of everything despite her busy section on a Friday night. The crowd here is mixed with families and younger people. Food ratings Truffle fries - perfection! 10/10 Steak - cooked medium well like I asked, good flavor 7.5/10 Szechuan chicken wraps - probably my favorite 10/10 Steak with au ju, greens, and fries - my friend loved it! 10/10 To end the night, we were given a half order of crème brûlée which was truly amazing. As a crème brûlée enthusiast I enjoyed it and appreciated the writing. I recommend making a reservation online, prior to coming in although I'm sure they accept walk-ins. Always such a delight to walk around inside Valley Fair Mall although I do not come often enough. Love all the varieties of restaurants, eateries, dessert places, 'food court' like stores. Shopping stores were huge varieties too: Lululemon, Jins, Macys, Nordstrom, Quay, L'occitane, etc. Always a delight to walk around, get a piece or two from Lady M, matcha soft serve from Cafe Maiko, stroll through Pop Mart, etc. So many things to see, explore, try, eat and look. Parking is simple, either at the outdoor parking lot or go into the garage. It may take some time to get out of the garage though. Bright, wide walkway inside the mall. Nice ambiance, great place to hang out or just wander around. read more
