We ordered the shrimp & scallop ceviche (perfect balance of tangy and slightly sweet), bangbang chicken (a little spice but not too much), Miso roasted mushroom (just okay), truffle parmesan fries (just okay), lobster spaghetti (lots of lobster pieces and flavorful), and for dessert, we had the tap that cake (we loved this) and half of Creme Brulee Cheesecake (just okay). Service - the five stars is because of the excellent service. We felt like the staff are genuinely friendly and actually look you in the eyes when talking you, and their smiles seem genuine to everyone (not just to the "right" people, if you know you know). I moved my son up to college and we looked for some place local for dinner. We found this place on Yelp and saw all the good reviews. The complimentary wine while we waited was very nice. My son had the grill chicken club with a gluten free bun. I had the steak and sushi. My steak came with sesame seeds, which I have an allergy. I did not see this ingredient on the menu or I would have said something. They made me a new one without any hesitation. The food tasted very good, especially the sushi. The manager brought our first rounds of drinks and introduced himself, which I appreciated. There are a few reasons I can't give a better rating. The servers were very nice but the food and refills were slow. Several tables around me seemed to have the same issue. The truly worse thing of the night was the cockroach we saw walking around near the bar as we were leaving. We let the hostess know but she didn't seem too concerned, so we just left. read more

With that said though, this is my second time at Joeys for dinner and both times, the dinner/entrees have only been OK. The spaghetti pomodoro was barely al dente and the noodles stuck together - likely not stirred while boiling. The lobster spaghetti also had more shrimp than lobster. The sea bass was good though! Crispy nigiri is OK, rice was a little mushy so it sticks to your teeth even though it's crispy on the outside. I'd come back for happy hour strictly. Great deals, guac is yummy, truffle fries were a hit, and I'm hoping to try their prime rib sandwich next time. I came here on a Sunday evening with a few gal pals. My friend already made a reservation for us so we were just probably seated in the waiting area and even offered a couple of bubbles. We were seated in a hybrid booth and chair area where our server quickly came to check in on us and let us have a moment to order. The ambience was pretty loud surprisingly or maybe because the group we were seated nearby just happened to be loud because I unintentionally heard every single thing they had to say. Despite the crowd that was seated by us is the overall ambience of Joey was not quiet or calm so if you're looking to hang out with friends or family or even just having a more outgoing date with the partner, then this place is perfect, but otherwise, if you're looking for a more romantic space and I don't really recommend it. Our food came out pretty quick where we ordered steak frites and a Mediterranean bowl. I personally enjoyed my steak and was very surprised at how tender the meat was even though it was only 5 ounces and it was cooked well done. The fries were pretty good and not too crunchy which I like but then again you can't really mess up rice. To balance the meat and fries, the sour and freshness of the arugula salad was a nice balance between the two. Overall, the steak frites was pretty basic but good. I didn't eat the Mediterranean bowl, but my friend who did order it say it was really good! The flavor of the dish isn't that good either. Can't taste any miso flavor in the carrot miso dressing. The coconut jasmine rice doesn't have any coconut taste. Don't order this dish and save yourself some money. - Seared Salmon Sushi: Flavorful and it melts in your mouth. The ratio of the salmon and rice is a bit off though, IMHO, too much rice and not much salmon. - Truffle Udon Carbonara with Chicken Katsu: The udon is cooked well and it's very flavorful. However the chicken katsu is too dry and disappointing. Will order this again without chicken katsu. - Sake Glazed Chillean Seabass: The fish melts in your mouth and it's delicious. The best dish. - Herb Crush Salmon: Fish is cooked well but there is no taste despite with all the herbs on top. I wonder if the chef forgot to put any seasonings on the fish. This dish looks better than it tastes. In short, the seabass and the udon carbonara (skip the chicken katsu) dishes are the best. Service is disappointing. After we ordered appetizers, we had to ask a few times for silverwares and small plates. Our waitress should have brought those to us automatically without us having to ask so many times. Also, she didn't come check on us to see if we need anything at all. We always have to waive down other waitresses to get us drink refills, get serving spoons or other requests. For this type of restaurant and the price they charge for food, service is not up-to-par. Even if you have reservations, be prepared to wait for another 15+ mins outside. read more

Happy Hour at Joey Such a great spot to walk in for delicious food and drinks while taking a break from shopping at Valley Fair. The service was attentive and friendly, and they even offered sparkling wine or tea as a welcome drink while we waited for the rest of our group to arrive. I also really enjoyed the refreshing non-alcoholic beverages from TOST. Food-wise, the quality was consistently great across every dish we tried. Some of my favorites included the Szechuan tofu lettuce wraps (the sauce was incredibly flavorful!), the spicy crab dip (loaded with crab and shrimp, served with perfectly grilled sourdough), the prime rib sandwich (the in-house slow-roasted prime rib was very juicy; they're usually only available during lunch, but luckily they still had some left that evening!), and the molten chocolate cake (light, airy, and silky smooth with a rich chocolate sauce). I frequent the LA locations and I've been to this one once, with disappointing experience. Their staff is exceptional and they are always looking the best! I love the ambiance as usual. I love their seared salmon sushi and peach bellinis, had to get that along with the complimentary champagne we received upon walking in. Our server was really sweet and attentive to our needs, she was on top of everything despite her busy section on a Friday night. The crowd here is mixed with families and younger people. Shopping stores were huge varieties too: Lululemon, Jins, Macys, Nordstrom, Quay, L'occitane, etc. Always a delight to walk around, get a piece or two from Lady M, matcha soft serve from Cafe Maiko, stroll through Pop Mart, etc. So many things to see, explore, try, eat and look. Parking is simple, either at the outdoor parking lot or go into the garage. It may take some time to get out of the garage though. Bright, wide walkway inside the mall. JOEY Valley Fair is probably San Jose's hottest, bougiest spot right now -- and it lives up to the hype. The venue is stunning day or night. During the day, you can see straight through the restaurant through their floor-to-ceiling glass windows (they'll bring the shades down on hot days). Inside, think modern wine cellar: dark, woody, with dim lights glowing all around. At night it gets even more magical -- the surrounding buildings turn practically translucent and the interior lights create a whole mood. The experience starts before you're even seated. While you wait, the staff comes around with champagne or a non-alcoholic beverage, and the wait usually isn't long anyway (still, make a reservation). The whole team is as polished as the space, and service is attentive and friendly throughout. Now the food. The Truffle Parmesan Fries are a must -- I get them every time, and the mayo sauce they come with pairs perfectly. The Truffle Udon Carbonara is really good; the egg yolk, bacon, and dashi truffle cream sauce come together beautifully. The Sake Glazed Chilean Seabass is another winner -- tender, flaky (exactly how seabass should be), served with wok-fired vegetables, gold potatoes, and dashi. And the JOEY Classic Steak is solid and well-seasoned, but the star of that plate is the fully loaded crispy mashed potatoes -- basically loaded mashed potatoes wrapped in an eggroll. Unique and delicious, you have to try it. It's on the pricier end (mains start around $25+), but for the experience, it's worth it. This is my go-to for celebrations and for wowing out-of-towners -- it impresses every single time. This is probably my new favorite restaurant at VF. My kiddies always gets the chicken strips and wow they are perfectly fried and seasoned where you don't even need any dip. The fries are even better if you can believe it. They are even better than McDonald's which means they are the best of the best. I've had the steak and lobster spaghetti here and even tried the seabass when the misses ordered it. Yeah I don't have anything negative to say and that's not easy for me lol. One of my favorite things also is the attention they pay to food allergies which was never something I thought about until my daughter was born. She's allergic to almost everything you can be allergic to and the staff is very thorough in asking and making sure there is no cross contamination. What a marvelous dining experience I've ever been too! My family and I came here to celebrate my birthday and of course it's surprising that my birthday happens to be during Independence Day. Normally in a restroom each stall just has a toilet and sinks outside of them or a room with a toilet and sink. Based on the menu, it seems like this restaurant is New American since I seen dishes like steak and sushi with other dishes that blend in other types of foods in one dish. Some items are here are very expensive since I seen ones that are over $80. Anyways, the food came here and it's so delicious. I've never been in a restaurant with food that tastes that extraordinary in a good way compared to all of the fine dining restaurants I've went to. The steak and ravioli is really good as well as other dishes here. Lastly of course, I got a Crème Brûlée Cheesecake with "Happy Birthday". Very small though but we all wanna share anyways. I definitely would come here again probably for special occasions. I also recommend people coming here and making reservations since it may be competitive doing that especially on special days like Independence Day. Had reservations I booked out over a month in advance and unfortunately we were seated on the patio on the first floor. We also got an appetizer miso mushroom to eat with our entrees and it was good as well but leaned on the saltier side. Our server did say she put in a small dessert for my husband since it was Father's Day. Was skeptical of the 5 star ratings but this restaurant truly delivers! We came here after the 408 race at Santana row and it was so good that we had to run it back for Father's Day. We made reservations ahead of time and I communicated through email and open table/text. They were super accommodating and communicative up until our table was ready. Loved how they asked if we needed high chairs. When our ressie time came up we were greeted with a drink--bubbly, NA wine, or a seltzer. Such a nice touch! We were then led into a private room which turned out to be a lifesaver because we had THREE toddlers. If not for the private room it would have been chaos, so we were infinitely thankful for that they stuck us in there, and I'm sure the gratitude goes both ways with the rest of the patrons. This is a small pet peeve, but I had put on open table that the occasion was for a birthday yet I was still asked on three separate occasions what we were celebrating that night first by the host then by the lady seating us upstairs in our section and third by our waitress. I chose to see upstairs in the 18+ rooftop area, which was really nice and well lit and the ambience was incredible but on a windier or extremely sunny day, it might be too hot or too cold. We ordered the Szechuan chicken lettuce wraps, which were really unique. There was a great element of crunch, savory sweet and spicy and probably was my favorite item on the menu for Andrea's. We ordered the steak and lobster pasta and even got an upgrade to the prime steak, but was sorely disappointed the steak came out, kind of bland and also really tough. Maybe I'm just not a sirloin gal but I definitely regret ordering the steak. The lobster pasta was good, I wish there was a little more lobster. I think it was mixed with some shrimp or maybe langostino, not big lobster. We also ordered the sake Chilean Seabass, which typically Chilean Seabass is so buttery it's really hard to overcook, but this was overcooked. It was stringy, and also the vegetables that went with this dish were just so random like potatoes and a stirfry is kind of bizarre. The two drinks we got were pretty good as well. We got a less alcohol, espresso martini with screwball, and also the lychee less alcohol drink. We also did get a complementary dessert which was the strawberry crème brûlée cheesecake which was so good definitely worth the wait. I think this place would be great for like a date night with drinks appetizers and dessert with great vibes but the entrées were majorly disappointing and extremely expensive. read more

First time dining at Joey, and it definitely did not disappoint! We made a reservation a few days in advance, and everything was smooth from the moment we arrived. Since we got there a little early, we were welcomed with a complimentary sparkling drink. I don't drink alcohol, so I really appreciated the non-alcoholic sparkling tea, it was a great touch. Throughout our meal, the staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel well taken care of. The food, desserts, and non-alcoholic drinks were all delicious. We chose to sit outside, which made for a relaxing evening with the beautiful weather. Overall, it was a fantastic first experience, and we'll definitely be back. Highly recommend! read more

3.5 rounded up Overall a very aesthetic trendy restaurant at Valley Fair with decent but somewhat overpriced food. I feel like you're def coming here and paying more for the ambience than the food quality. The complimentary drink at the front is a nice touch, and I loved that they had a non-alcoholic tea option. Service was friendly and attentive though the food was a bit slow to come out, even on a Thursday afternoon. I do have to note that the acoustics are not great and it was somewhat challenging/distracting to have a conversation. Also, parking at VF is always annoying and I wish the restaurants offered validation, esp at the prices they charge. Crab dip 3.5/5 - It was pretty good but I agree with other reviewers that it's nothing special and very similar to those sushi bakes you see on social media. It was also more solid and less gooey than I expected. The bread that comes with it is nicely toasted but I do have to say that as someone with sensitive oral mucosa, it did scratch up the roof of my mouth. Lobster pasta 4/5 - This was the highlight of the meal. Good portions, perfectly seasoned with well balanced flavors. There could always be more lobster but it was acceptable. I'm torn on whether it's worth the price though ($45). Steak and sushi 3/5 - This left a lot to be desired. I had read reviews saying they tend to overcook the steak and that was also true in our case. My friend did decide to say something, and the good thing is that they were kind enough to remake it. Despite being cooked better (actually medium rare), I don't think the standard cut they use is that good of quality (you can pay more to upgrade to other cuts). In terms of the sushi, you can pick from the various types on the menu. My friend chose the tuna and avocado. It was fine and flavors were decent bc of the sauce, but again quality wise, it's kind of mid/what you expect from an americanized restaurant. read more

Who doesn't like complimentary champagne? That was a nice touch. Everything was really good, more acquired tastes and I wouldn't say it was big on kid friendly (we didn't look at the kids menu). My 7 year old enjoyed the noodles, but didn't add the egg. The lettuce wraps are popular, but I didn't like how it was fried. The sushi/steak was good. There are many options and I will come back to try other dishes. read more

Wow, this place completely blew me away! The chef really worked his magic because the food was absolutely amazing. The carbonara udon was easily one of the best I've ever had, rich, and so satisfying. We also tried the crab dip appetizer, which was okay. It reminded me a bit of sushi bake, so it was familiar but not necessarily the standout of the meal. Our friends really enjoyed their dishes, especially the seafood and steak pasta. The truffle fries were great - crispy and super addictive. And the apple pie was amazing! Definitely one of the best I've tried. The staff was friendly, and the manager even stopped by to check on us, which was a nice touch. Overall, such a great experience and I'd definitely come back! read more
