Service: our servers and food runners were super nice and welcoming, especially since it was our first time, table of 7 and had a ton of questions, she suggested items but was patient when we had other questions. Food: so many options, we went for the seafood tower sampler and the Ravioli Blanco (may have misspelled) with added steak, delicious and my steak was cooked as ordered and delicious! I returned for a Father's Day and Birthday weekend. This time I reserved on Open Table and marked it as a Birthday as there were no special toggle to indicate Father's Day as well. When we got there, we were welcomed in pretty quickly and were given a choice of sparkling tea, wine, and one other option I'm forgetting. The wait was about 5m before we were told to go to the upper lobby to be seated. Once seated, the waitress introduced herself and gave us some time to look over the menu. Of course, I had to get more of the Spicy Crab Dip. Along with it we also got some truffle fries. The main entree we revisited was the Tomahawk Steak. Spicy Crab Dip was as good as I remembered it. I think you may want to order an extra side of bread as even if I fully loaded each bread slice with the crab dip, I ended up with more dip than bread. The truffle fries were shoestring style and delicious as well. It came topped with some cheese and 2 sauce: ketchup and what I believe was garlic aioli spread. The tomahawk steak was much improved since last time I visited. It wasn't over-salted and was the right balance in terms of seasoning and tenderness. As for atmosphere, the dining area was very easy to converse. While you can hear a bit from nearby tables, it was easy to zone out. Music wasn't too loud either. As for why I took a star off, as mentioned, this was a celebration for my Father and was deliberately marked as such when I reserved. I wasn't asked about it when checking in. I saw practically every table with a clear "father" marked get a dessert dish with some message written "Happy Father's Day". Even the table next to ours, the waitress had asked, "Are you celebrating Father's Day today?" Their table had 2 father's so out came 2 what I assume was a complimentary desert dish. My father saw it and started to build some expectation. I assume given last year's experience it was going to be much the same. Nope. End of the meal, the waitress came by and asked do you want the check. My father was then now visibly grumpy so I had to ask for the menu again and ordered an apple pie. I still had to keep hearing about it throughout the weekend which was what I was trying to avoid. You're always greeted with complimentary speaking wine or tea which is such a simple yet impactful gesture. Downstairs is an elegant area for dinner, while upstairs is more lively for bar seating and TV watching. They also have a fantastic happy hour deal. Had reservations I booked out over a month in advance and unfortunately we were seated on the patio on the first floor. We did have a stroller so that was probably the reason, but wish we were seated inside as the tables were very high. We went on Father's Day during lunch and it was definitely busy. Service was alright. I did have to flag down my server twice to ask for more water. We ordered the Coconut Smash and the Old Fashion. Both drinks were good. The Coconut Smash was very sweet and didn't taste like alcohol but I did enjoy it. We got the spicy crab dip and it was delicious. However, the dip itself was warm not hot and the bread was cold so it wasn't the best mix but loved the flavors. For entrees, I got the udon carbonara with the chicken katsu. It was delicious but half way through I realized it was a bit salty for my taste so I had to take breaks to finish the dish. My husband got the bone in rib eye steak and he loved it. He said the steak was tender and it was cooked pretty good - he got it medium rare. We also got an appetizer miso mushroom to eat with our entrees and it was good as well but leaned on the saltier side. Our server did say she put in a small dessert for my husband since it was Father's Day. We paid and waited for what felt like 15 minutes and it didn't come out and also our server was no where to be found so we just ended up leaving. I'd probably be back for a special occasion because I loved the ambiance. Overall, the food was good but thought it could be better based on the hype. Was skeptical of the 5 star ratings but this restaurant truly delivers! We came here after the 408 race at Santana row and it was so good that we had to run it back for Father's Day. We made reservations ahead of time and I communicated through email and open table/text. They were super accommodating and communicative up until our table was ready. Loved how they asked if we needed high chairs. When our ressie time came up we were greeted with a drink--bubbly, NA wine, or a seltzer. Such a nice touch! We were then led into a private room which turned out to be a lifesaver because we had THREE toddlers. If not for the private room it would have been chaos, so we were infinitely thankful for that they stuck us in there, and I'm sure the gratitude goes both ways with the rest of the patrons. We were treated like royalty by Liz and her team. I felt like we had a parade of servers come in catering only to us, wow it was excellent service! Liz doesn't have a bad bone in her body; she was so sweet to us and especially my parents and the rowdy kids. Our experience could not have been better! This will definitely be our go-to celebration restaurant because there is something on the menu for everyone, and the service really is top notch. I feel like you're def coming here and paying more for the ambience than the food quality. The complimentary drink at the front is a nice touch, and I loved that they had a non-alcoholic tea option. Service was friendly and attentive though the food was a bit slow to come out, even on a Thursday afternoon. I do have to note that the acoustics are not great and it was somewhat challenging/distracting to have a conversation. Also, parking at VF is always annoying and I wish the restaurants offered validation, esp at the prices they charge. Crab dip 3.5/5 - It was pretty good but I agree with other reviewers that it's nothing special and very similar to those sushi bakes you see on social media. It was also more solid and less gooey than I expected. The bread that comes with it is nicely toasted but I do have to say that as someone with sensitive oral mucosa, it did scratch up the roof of my mouth. Lobster pasta 4/5 - This was the highlight of the meal. Good portions, perfectly seasoned with well balanced flavors. There could always be more lobster but it was acceptable. I'm torn on whether it's worth the price though ($45). Steak and sushi 3/5 - This left a lot to be desired. I had read reviews saying they tend to overcook the steak and that was also true in our case. My friend did decide to say something, and the good thing is that they were kind enough to remake it. Despite being cooked better (actually medium rare), I don't think the standard cut they use is that good of quality (you can pay more to upgrade to other cuts). In terms of the sushi, you can pick from the various types on the menu. My friend chose the tuna and avocado. It was fine and flavors were decent bc of the sauce, but again quality wise, it's kind of mid/what you expect from an americanized restaurant. read more

Wow, this place completely blew me away! The chef really worked his magic because the food was absolutely amazing. The carbonara udon was easily one of the best I've ever had, rich, and so satisfying. We also tried the crab dip appetizer, which was okay. Looking over, I joked about walking up to crash an event for a private event for complimentary wine and tea and then getting carded. Hilariously, I was the clown, because these were complimentary to all the guests, as I later found out shortly after being seated, making a dash to double fist. Emily was our server this afternoon, and she took amazing care of us. I had their steak (medium rare) and lobster spaghetti, unsure of what to expect. The steak was very tasty and tender, just the right amount of seasoning with fat that just enough fat that melted in the mouth. The lobster was also tasty with the spaghetti, which was plated in a perfect little mollusk shell shape. Had I to guess upon recount, the spaghetti had a good bit of lemony zest, chopped garlic, and fresh herbs. And the tomatoes? A good sweet retreat palate cleanser. My party and I enjoyed our meal on the outdoor patio, a bit toasted by the heater which was soon turned off. Outside of the delightful lunch, my favorite memory was the perfect complimentary beverages. I'm visiting this area because my girlfriend's recently begun schooling here and decided for Juneteenth to try one of the highest rated yelp restaurants in our backyard. But it has always been on my list, so I finally doordash to see what's the magic =)) So, what I had was truffle udon carbonara and seared salmon sushi. The carbonara was AMAZING!!! What we got: Ceviche (3/5) -- a little too acidic and needed some salt, difficult to taste the scallop, mango worked well and shrimp was perfectly cooked Prime rib sandwich (3/5) -- the jus was very salty even with the horseradish, meat was tender and paired well with the bread Steak + Ravioli Bianco (3.5/5) -- solid seasoning on the steak, but difficult to enjoy since there was a lot of sinew in each bite. Beurre blanc with the crispy fried onion was the highlight of the meal texturally and flavorwise I didn't catch her name, but our waitress (Indian, flawless makeup) was very friendly and attentive even as service picked up, frequently refilling our waters and didn't rush with ordering or the check. It wasn't too rich at all; the portion was generous, and the fresh herbs and tomatoes were a nice touch. The lobster was tender, and the pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente. I highly recommend it. The filet mignon was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. It came with asparagus and fully loaded crispy mashed potatoes. The crispy mashed potatoes were so good and unique. Angel, the manager, came by several times to see how we were doing and wished us a Happy Anniversary. We were brought a delicious anniversary dessert. That was a very kind gesture. I always enjoy a restaurant that plays like a well orchestrated symphony! JOEY was precisely that! Upon arrival, it is clear where guests go to check in, there is someone greeting and checking in guests and inviting them to the bubble station, where you can get a glass of champagne while you wait for your table to be prepared. We got a table right next to the kitchen, which is glass enclosed. I absolutely enjoyed watching the cooks and chefs artfully craft each dish and send it out to the tables. The music was playing, but not too loud, which I appreciate. Our server, Nate was exceptional and very attentive. We ordered the Szechuan lettuce wraps, which we rated a 9/10 (-1 star only because we hoped there would be more lettuce), the crab dip, a 7/10 (there was a flavor we weren't too keen on). All 3 of us ordered the steak and ravioli bianco, the steak was very well seasoned, the sauce and ravioli were spot on. 10/10. As for desserts, they were all delicious. One thing that I noticed and very much appreciate and admire is the cleanliness of the kitchen, even in the small details that others might overlook. I have worked in many kitchens in the Bay Area, from small kitchens to big corporate kitchens and when I looked up at the air vents and saw they were clean just made me love JOEY that much more. My boyfriend and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary at Joey on May 11th and had such a lovely experience overall. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with complimentary sparkling white wine which immediately made the night feel special and celebratory. Great service really makes a difference during special occasions and she helped make our anniversary dinner memorable. For appetizers, we shared the truffle fries which were crispy, flavorful, and a great way to start the meal. For my entree, I ordered the steak and lobster paired with a glass of red wine while my boyfriend ordered the classic New York steak. My boyfriend normally doesn't enjoy ordering steaks at restaurants because he's usually disappointed by them, but he genuinely loved this one and kept talking about how well it was cooked and seasoned. The only downside of the evening was the lobster. Unfortunately it came out extremely salty, to the point where I still had a salty aftertaste for the rest of the night. It was disappointing because everything else was enjoyable, but I really appreciated how professionally our server handled it. Brittney was understanding and accommodating and had the lobster removed from our bill which we truly appreciated. One thing I would add is that we also received a complimentary dessert which we were not expecting. My boyfriend had already ordered a cheesecake for us to share, and then another cheesecake came out complimentary for our anniversary. It worked out since we each ended up having our own slice, but I think it would have been perfectly fine if they had just comped the cheesecake we already ordered instead of bringing out a second one. We definitely appreciated the thoughtful gesture though and it was still very kind of them. I go here quite often, and my go-to dishes are the spicy crab dip (5/5) and the steak and ravioli (5/5). If you're a first-timer, I definitely recommend trying those two dishes. The steak in the steak and ravioli is always cooked perfectly medium rare! The photo attached isn't medium rare because my friend ordered it medium, but whenever I get it medium rare, it literally melts in your mouth. The ravioli is drenched in an amazing sauce that ties the whole dish together. We also ordered the Mini Short Rib French Dips (4.5/5), which come in either 2 or 4 pieces -- perfect for sharing with a group if you just want a little taste. Those were really good as well. The Japanese gyoza is also good (4/5). It comes plated in a delicious sauce that pairs perfectly with it. But gyoza is gyoza.. LOL Overall, the aesthetic of this place is gorgeous. I've sat both upstairs and downstairs, and both areas are such a vibe. I've been wanting to come back during their weekday lunch happy hour because I've heard great things. I definitely recommend booking at least 2 weeks in advance, especially if you're planning to come on a weekend because this place gets booked up fast. You'll probably have better luck walking in on a weekday right when they open. This is such a perfect spot for a birthday dinner. I've celebrated here twice. This time I was a bit disappointed with our experience. I ordered the steak and lobster, and unfortunately the lobster was undercooked. My husband ordered the steak and sushi, and his steak was a little tough and rough to eat. Overall, it felt like the food may have been sitting in the kitchen for a while before it was served. To be fair, we went on Mother's Day and they were extremely busy, so I understand they were probably overwhelmed. We've had better experiences here before, so I'm hoping this was just an off day. read more

I've been twice now and have eaten once downstairs in the main area of the restaurant, and once upstairs near the bar area. Overall, we loved the vibe and atmosphere of Joey's. It's especially nice up in the upstairs area, and feels like you're in a greenhouse. However, when we were in the upstairs area, they didn't have silverware available. It was odd. When we asked our server for an extra spoon, she stated she would try her best to find us a utensil but that they were out at that moment. Which is interesting considering you could've ran downstairs to get more? Because of that, I wanted to knock off another star and give this place a 3. However, overall we've enjoyed our experiences there. There are a variety of food options available to choose from, as well as cocktails. We especially enjoyed their crab dip. I'd recommend coming for a girls brunch' or date night, or even for some post-shopping cocktails or pre-dinner drinks. read more

This was my 4th time coming to Joey for Mother's Day! I was surprised to see that they were open an hour earlier today but it was nice to beat the crowd. We got seated in the second floor which is my favorite place to sit. The open air and sunlight always makes for great pics! We ordered the Ravioli Bianco (my favorite), Truffle Udon Carbonara with chicken katsu, lobster and steak spaghetti and joey cheeseburger along with the ceviche for appetizer. All were amazing! Food main dish: Steak & Lobster Spaghetti; disappointing for 55$ dish. Steak ordered medium and was TOUGH. Bits of lobster present. Noodles were not al dente. Sauce not creamy, spice was overpowering. Did not finish this dish. This dish also took a while to be served. 3 stars for service and food - steaks is not their speciality. Had the absolute best Saturday lunch at JOEY Valley Fair with the girls! We sat out on the covered terrace and the entire experience was amazing from start to finish. You're greeted with sparkling wine/champagne when you arrive, which instantly sets the tone for such a luxe, upscale experience. The atmosphere is beautiful....definitely giving very cutesy LA vibes. The food was absolutely amazing, our waitress was attentive and so sweet, and honestly I have zero complaints. Everything from the ambiance to the service felt elevated and well thought out. Loved the vibe and atmosphere here! First time here was during my bday and it was a great first visit. Reservation for a girls brunch and it was perfect. First, a complimentary drink upon arrival! Sold already. Also, their cocktails are worth getting. I believe our server's name was Noor? She was a whole vibe!!! Really sweet, tentative, and just had good energy the whole time. Mains: Truffle Udon Carbonara - I could order this a thousand times over and be satisfied. It was creamy and truffle was a nice touch and not too overpowering. Pairs so well with the thick udon noodles. 2nd visit, booked an early reservation close to noon. Starters & Shared: Spicy Crab Dip - good appetizer but not spicy Handhelds: Prime Rib Sandwich (only available during lunch, limited) is worth getting Mains: Ravioli Blano - the ravioli and sauce itself was really good. The food was delicious! My housemate and I shared so we can try the stuff we ordered. We got truffle udon carbonara with chicken katsu, seared salmon and truffle fries. Everything was soo good. I really liked the seared salmon, good blend of flavors. Definitely would come back for the udon too and to try other stuff on the menu. Truffle fries lacked truffle taste though, didn't really see any truffle bits either. Price was decent. Service was great! It's pretty nice their offer drinks while we wait for our table. It can get a chilly, since part of the restaurant is opened. Not sure about upstairs but downstairs was a little bit chilly. read more

Came to JOEY Valley Fair for a date night and had a solid experience overall. We were seated pretty quickly in the upstairs bar area, which was nice. The udon was amazing, definitely the standout dish. The steak in the ravioli was a little overcooked, but still decent. Service was good and attentive throughout. This place had been on our radar for a while since it had opened and we finally got the chance to try is this Saturday afternoon for a late lunch with the family. We made a reservation in advance and were seated pretty quickly. The price tag for the menu is a little high but it's reflected on the experience with an upscale feel and complimentary sparkling wine/non alcoholic bubbly while you're waiting for your table. For the apps we went with the crispy tofu lettuce wraps and the hummus. The lettuce wraps were probably the highlight of the meal. Very crispy delicious Szechuan tofu, onions, and wontons made for a delicious crunch and decent enough portions to share among 5 of us. The hummus came with a tzatziki and crispy pitas that were very solid and that plate left the table completely clean. For dinner we went with the crispy tofu bowl and the Mediterranean bowl. The crispy tofu bow was an extension of the lettuce wraps with some excellent crispy tofu but nothing else super special about the bowl. The Mediterranean bowl came with a healthy serving of grilled harissa chicken that packed a little bit of spice (nothing crazy) and again the usual fare of topping for a bowl. Didn't really feel that either of these bowls justified a price tag of $25+ each but I suppose the ambiance made up for it. Service was decent too. Again overall nothing amazing but pretty solid and might be worth to come here for apps/happy hour. Didn't check out their cocktail menu but maybe next time! read more
