DO NOT RECOMMEND YOST APPLIANCE REPAIR…read more Last week, I contacted Yost Appliance to service my Whirlpool refrigerator ice maker, which had stopped making ice. An appointment was scheduled, and a technician came to my home to diagnose the problem. Within approximately 10 minutes, the technician identified two broken wires that were preventing the ice maker from working. However, I was told that the wiring could not be repaired. I was charged a $150 service fee, and the technician left without making any repair. The following day, I examined the wiring myself. In approximately 45 minutes, I was able to reconnect the two broken wires using electrical crimp connectors, completing the circuit. The ice maker immediately began making ice again and has been working properly since. I subsequently contacted Yost Appliance to ask why the wiring could not be repaired when I was able to repair it myself. I received no response. I also sent a text message expressing my concern and, as of today, have received no response to that either. I understand that a service technician may determine that a repair is not practical or within the company's scope of work. However, in this case, I was particularly disappointed that I was charged $150 for a 10-minute visit, was told the problem could not be repaired, and then received no explanation when I followed up. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Yost Appliance Repair. I would strongly suggest getting a second opinion before authorizing a service call or repair.

The technician did not give me a price estimate for the second visit. He just said I would be charged for the part and labor but no actual price. This money would have been better put towards a new washer. I have corrected the price in my original posting. I had difficulty reading the handwriting. Crocker came out and inspected my HVAC system. A few days later I received a phone call from Jim who wanted to personally come out and take a look at things - no charge. The total bill was nearly $900. We did not use the system until June and discovered that it did not start. I suspected a failure of one of the numerous parts that were replaced and anticipated that the warranty for the parts would cover the service call. Their technician came in the morning and started to replace some of the same parts that were installed three months earlier. He also replaced a motherboard, contactor, coil (both were brand new), and took apart the unit covers and the thermostat. After four hours, the technician declared that he had to stop as he was to miss his lunch time. As he was leaving, he mentioned that the problem was a short in two wires ... and that the blower motor fried during his testing procedure. He never bothered to reinstall the covers or the thermostat. The bill for his "service" is $1,000. When the technician left, the AC was in worse shape than when he arrived, and Crocker expects me to pay to make my system inoperable. If you want to have Crocker come to destroy your system, bill you for unneeded parts in the hope that you will install a new system, then Crocker is who to call. Otherwise, save your money and call an HVAC business that is not a crook.
