April 28, 2026 Yost determined that my washing machine wouldn't operate because of a defective child-safety sensor switch that the repairman happened to have when he inspected the machine--meaning that it's a common component. Nevertheless, it cost $140. How much did Yost pay for it? Its installation--in under thirty minutes--cost $155. Was that the labor rate? No, for Yost charges by the job, not by the hour. Would I pay $155 for a job lasting an hour, then? Yost answered that, no, I would pay about double for it! The owner couldn't fathom that that discrepancy is indicative of a labor charge. After making an appointment a few weeks ago, and finding out they were not coming, we rescheduled. We let them know the ignition switch on one of our gas burners was not working (no clicking sound). On the day they did arrive, two workers, perhaps father and son, we were told it could not be fixed (the younger man brushed the burner in question, but did nothing else). He explained that our damp weather caused erosion. This took maybe 2 minutes and before they completed the "inspection" the older gentleman told me it would be $125.00 and said a check would be fine.... We were flabbergasted! I understand charging for the time...but we had been put off already and they were in our home less than 5 minutes in total! Called and was offered appointment that same day - I had to delay it 'til next day. They explained it was $125 to come out and diagnose, but if we did the repair, that $125 would be removed. Gave estimate based on what I told them. Came in time frame given the next day, took dryer apart, pulled drum, replaced bearings, etc. buttoned it up and it was good. Father and son, both pleasant, efficient, neat. Paid as estimated. All good. Would absolutely call them again for a problem. read more

I was naïve and that's on me. I called about a washing machine issue. They said the only way to know the matter was to come look at it. I said okay and made an appointment. They didn't tell and I didn't ask how much it would cost. They came early (+) spent 5 minutes looking at it, I had already taken the back off and unhooked the hoses. They remarked how surprised they were something like this lasted this long. Told me to buy a new washer and charged $125. In and out in 15 mins. They said I could still use the washer but it wasn't going to be for long and only with very small loads. I wished they offered to reset the washer but they didn't. I also didn't ask! Shock? So my moral- just ask for what you want! Don't be like me. Wouldn't call them again. read more

Emailed explaining I had a problem with my oven and that I lived in Carpinteria. I did receive a response within 24 hours but it was a few words and all he said was "we don't do work in Carp". So wanted to warn everyone that their website states they service several different zip codes and one of them being mine at 93013 but they will not come to Carpinteria. Called him out to look at our electric oven. It needs a simple top burner element, and he told us we need to find the part/model number before he can replace it (it's an older unit, but still a very simple part replacement). Otherwise, he said we'd have to replace the entire unit which would cost thousands. The part it needs is around $50. He made sure we paid him $60 before he left, for his 5 minute visit. He left no invoice, write-up or paperwork. Definitely got the impression he was just lazy and didn't want to deal with it. Not very helpful at all. Called Mission Appliance, they came out, looked at the oven, found a model number, said they would find the right part and they would replace it. Surprised by all these glowing reviews, wondering if they are fake or paid for, because our experience was not good at all. Would not recommend Yost Appliance. Years ago as a starving student I had a washer and dryer for my shared rental. We had a super low budget. The washer and dryer 'set' in our rental was working pretty poorly. A friend knew of Yost Appliance and suggested I give them a call. I said we needed a repair on our cheap, old and ugly, but hopefully reliable washer and dryer. The repairman came in and he was really nice to me. I'm told that when I was 18 I looked 13. That they treated me like a real customer and not a ridiculous pain says a lot about their culture as a business. They fixed up Fred and Ethyl and for ten years those two cleaned clothes, shoes, blankets and whatever abusive barely launder-able things we threw at them. Those old sweeties kept on going despite extreme age and ugliness. I left them for the next tenants. For all I know Fred and Ethyl could still be going. This is a review about a repair not done. I have an 8 year old Kenmore HE2 Plus front loader washing machine that is working quite well. The problem is the noise from the drain pump. The woman I called said she could set up an appointment, but the cost for coming out is $65, and it was to determine the problem, but would be applied against the repair. Sure enough the only problem was the drain pump, and they would give me an estimate later in the day. Later is the day the woman calls and says the repair would cost a bit over $400. The open market OEM price for my drain pump assembly (pump and motor which come together) is $75.80 with $6.99 shipping charge. This is a Whirlpool part no. W10130913. When I call back asking to speak to the gentleman who came out, he says his price for the drain pump assembly is over $200 and thus the labor cost is another $200. This is an offer that is easy to refuse, but I feel that the gall is insulting to me. I call another service that also has good Yelp reviews. The gentleman there says I should order the drain pump assembly and actually implies I should do the repair myself since it is simple. He says if he comes out his labor charge would be $125, but he really is not kidding about it being a simple repair. Thus if I used his service, my total cost would be a little over $200. But he is telling me a straight story, the repair only involves an inlet tube, an outlet tube, and an electrical connection right at the bottom of the Kenmore washer. He also says one other thing that my washer is 8 years old, and easily at that age other problems could develop. This is consistent with Consumer Reports data on when to repair or replace washing machines. So at least in all of this I got one straight story. I don't give myself 5 stars for this since I knew the 8 year figure, and since I took at some faith that Yost would give me a straight story. Do a little due diligence if you can. read more

Wow!! What a breath of fresh air!!! We had an appt for today at 9AM. At precisely 9AM my door bell rang and standing there were smiling Mr Yost senior and Mr Yost, junior. I'm told its a family run business. Right away they got to work trying to fix my washer. Our refrigerator was leaking water all over the floor and the food was unthawing. We quickly switched the food to the garage fridge and unplugged the broken one...we were prepared for a long wait to get service, or a long delay for delivery if we needed a new one. We left a message on Yost's machine at 10:30pm. At *7:45am* the following morning, Mr. Yost called and said he would be at my house between 9-9:30am. My fridge started to give me fits. Water was leaking from under the fridge, it was running hot part of the time, and the temperature fluctuated greatly. Followed the Yelp reviews and called Yost Appliance Repair. Mr Yost was a joy to work with right from the start. He was at my home within a day diagnosing the problems with my fridge. The next day he returned and started the repairs on my fridge. Mr Yost had hoped to salvage the fan motor and got it running again. He told me to wait a few days and if my fridge started to act up again he would need to replace the fan motor. Alas, the fan motor stopped working and he quickly returned again to replace the motor. Fridge is humming like a bird now. I very much appreciated Mr Yost's great communication. He called every few days to check the status of my fridge to make sure it was working well. My issue was a washer whose hose ripped and leaked water all throughout my hallway, it was a disaster. I had called Yost and they were able to make an appointment that very same day. Since the hose was made in China and wasn't long enough, they engineered a replacement hose that extended the hose and made a secure non-leak fix. They came back the next day in the morning and installed the new hose without waiting 2-4 weeks for the replacement hose from China. The men who came to my house were polite and respectful, by barking dogs did not phase them one bit! Great service. A bit pricey, but worth the price to have a prompt permanent fix with great customer care! I will call then again for any appliance repairs. read more
