My husband has issues with eating due to medical issues but let me tell you the meatloaf was melt in your mouth as well as the steak. Food was good service was bad. Prices high and portions were on small side. Not very busy and waitress was no where to be found. Apps came out quick but entrees were sporadic. Under new management with great results. Excellent food and great service in a light and bright setting. 3 course special was delicious from red & white clam chowder to appetizers to entree of flounder. Dined there last night. Upon entering, we immediately noticed that the proprietors failed to remove the unpleasant odor that existed under the previous management. I ordered the stuffed flounder. It was awful. Tasted as though someone dumped a shaker of salt on the food. The portion was teeny. The spinach it came with was probably less than a quarter cup. Some entrées were in the $68 range? For that? Surely they gest. But no. Service was "eh." The only saving grace was the company; we were with friends we enjoy being with. Suffice it to say, we will not be going back. We tried this restaurant for the first time after being loyal patrons of the previous Greenhouse. The Rare Company was surprisingly very good. The inside has a plain rustic feel- not a lot of frills but comfortable and chill. Food was excellent with hot fresh rolls served with oil and butter. App was tasty steamed mussels in white wine sauce with toasted bread for dipping. Entrees equally good with a flounder on sautéed Spinich, fillet and fillet Oscar done to perfection. Sides are extra- baked potato and French green beans. This is a BYOB which is good.Overall 5 stars all the way around. My only critique to management is that they do not return reservation messages left on their VM. We left 2 messages on 2 different occasions with no call back. read more

I went there this evening and had 615 reservation. We were promptly seated and provided menus and the server brought us drinks. Our server Zack, went over the specials and made some great recommendations. He really knew the menu and how things were prepared. The entire staff was extremely friendly and professional. Dinner rolls for the table were brought out before appetizers. They were fresh and a garlic and oil mix was provided along with butter. We had the clams oreganato and egg plant tower as appetizers. Clams were incredible. Great lemon and garlic sauce. Egg Plant tower was very good. I ordered the NY Strip Prime cut. It was cooked to perfection by the Chef. He also seasoned it perfectly. My wife had an amazing pork chop that came with roasted potatoes. The pork chop had a great sauce on it that had the right amount of spice. I also ordered the regular fries which once again were seasoned perfectly. No need to add any salt or pepper to anything. Chef really put great effort into everything that came out. I also have to compliment the service. They did not rush us and everything came out piping hot. The server Zack could not have had a better personality or been more accommodating. He was very professional and made us feel like it was important that we were satisfied. I felt the prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend trying this establishment and I hope they succeed. This is considered a small local business that is family owned and operated. We visited Rare Company in the off-season (Late March 2023) and was able to get a 7PM reservation on a Saturday. We were a party of 3 (2 Adults and 1 Child aged 2) and we were sat right under the atrium glass. The ambiance was nice and the restaurant felt clean. The hostess and both waiters (they are brothers) were pleasant and happy to serve you. We were served bread and butter and given our drinks, keep in mind this is a BYOB, which I never mind as that helps with the cost of the bill. We started off with a small Caesar Salad, which was on point, the lettuce was crisp, croutons fresh, and dressing had the correct flavor. For our entrees we ordered the Surf and Turf (Lobster and NY Strip, Baked Potato) and the Lemon Herb Chicken (substituted mashed potatoes for the spinach) at no charge. Both entrees were very good, the lobster was broiled perfectly, steak cooked to my ask (Medium) and was a nice cut of meat. I saw other reviews knocking the quality of cut of meat but I thought it was great. I didn't walk in comparing it to Capital Grill like other people seemed to. The Lemon Herb Chicken was tender, portion was large, and the sauce had a good lemon flavor. I want to point out that there were a few kids options, more than most places, we ordered the chicken fingers and fries that were delicious! I will say to be fair, there was a lengthy wait in between apps and entrees. This doesn't typically bother me as I like a break in between but this was a little tough with our 2 year old. The staff was sincere and, to our surprise, we had our dessert (Cheesecake with Raspberry Sauce) and sodas knocked off the bill without being told. It is something simple like that, which made us felt cared for and we will be back! This is a newer restaurant that is making strides to improve and you can feel that from the staff. Good food, very nice atmosphere, and caring staff. Local LBI resident here and this will be on my list of options along with the classics. read more

An appropriate name for this restaurant. On the RARE occasion that there is no other place to eat, don't go here. Lovely little place but the night we were there the service was very poor. It took over an hour to receive our meal after ordering, with no apologies or compensation suggested. The reason given for the long wait was because they were busy because they had a lot of large parties. NOT OUR PROBLEM. We were a party of 8 and after appetizers they felt it necessary to clean away only half of the table. The bread was only served after being asked TWO times and we were told it was being baked. Interestingly, the bread was only slightly warm when we got it and we were given same amount that the party of 2 next to us was given. The meatloaf meal looked like dog food plopped on a plate with NO gravy! The cold sections were last to come out the kitchen after an inexcusable wait. Why? Although the food was tasty, the lack of care and attention to our table was disappointing! Go somewhere else! read more

Really amazing place! Small and intimate, friendly, great food (simple made great). The hostess and her sons (servers) were professional but warm and welcoming. Our food was really quite good - especially the special fries and the French Dip flat bread. Order the surf and turf (steak/shrimp) with a delicious sauce - best shrimp I've had in years. It's a big portion so pace yourself! I've been going to LBI for 50 years and my family have multiple homes on the island - we'll all be back! Soups were good but too salty. Pasta shrimp Fra Diavolo was oily and not very spicy. Both dishes we have had here before and were better. Fish entree was excellent. In short, excellent service but not consistent in terms of food quality. We will try it again. read more

A few weeks ago I was vacationing in LBI and a friend recommended Rare Company when I inquired about a good place for seafood. My husband and I went there with another couple and we were not disappointed. We ordered the calamari appetizer and it was one of the best I have had. Very tender. You could tell it was fresh. I also had the lobster bisque which was delicious. For the main course I had the Crab Stuffed Flounder over spinach. It was fantastic and a large portion at that. Took home a doggie bag. I was stuffed. My husband ordered the Blackened Mahi Mahi and really enjoyed it. My friend also had the flounder and her husband a steak (I don't remember which one). They both enjoyed their meals as well. This establishment is a BYOB which is nice but did not know that ahead of time as it's not mentioned (that I could see) on the website. My husband had to run out to a local liquor store. My only complaint is that it's BYOB status is not visible. Our server was very nice and took good care of us. I'm drawing a blank on her name but a young thin woman with long fingernails. I want her to get credit on this review. We would definitely go back next time in LBI. read more

My wife and I are always looking for places to eat near the north end of LBI so we tried Rare Company last evening. The staff were nice, accommodating, and professional. The ambience was a bit nicer than the Greenhouse Cafe (although we loved the cafe for its diverse menu and reasonable price point). The issue I had with Rare Company is that it calls itself a steakhouse, and compared to other restaurants of similar price point near LBI (Old Causeway for example), the meat quality is lacking. My wife had a pork chop which was lacking in flavor, while I had a porterhouse steak which was 3/8 of an inch thick, not prime, and possibly purchased at ShopRIte some time last week. Look, it's a new restaurant, there will be growing pains, and possibly procurement issues. However, to get return customers, and charge top dollar, you need to start off with prime cuts of meat. We will be back because I'm sure Rare Company will evolve as the season progresses. I will, however, ask the waiter to show me the cuts of meat we're ordering before preparation so we can be sure the quality matches the price.
