Berkeley's filled with bubble tea but I've yet to find a favorite place to procure it. Until now! Sharetea is a chain from Taiwan and from the looks of things, they've sussed out how to do boba better both operationally and from a flavor point of view (so many intriguing choices) . Their Berkeley outpost opened in late April and judging from how packed with college kids it was this past Sunday it's a hit with the campus set. I ordered for myself and someone who had never had bubble tea before. Since he likes things on the sweeter side I got him the mango green milk tea ($3.25) with pearls ($0.50). I often drink unsweetened tea so I got my grapefruit green tea ($3.50) half sweet with pearls ($0.50) and it was perfect. ShareTea's fruit teas (passionfruit green tea, strawberry black tea, wintermelon with lemon juice, to name a few) at ShareTea are made with real fruit which is a nice surprise. I loved the pulpy grapefruit bits I got in my drink. The boba itself is soft with a nice chew and it's definitely fresh. The tall cups that the teas are served in are easy to handle and they come with a sealed lid. Pro tip: If you're new to the sealed lid game make sure to stab the top with the pointy edge of the straw. Try hard to do it in one swift motion. Otherwise it's gonna get messy. In sum, I'm very excited about this new bubble tea shop and plan to return again soon. 229. I really think I got lucky when I visited Sharetea. I've only been here once, so I don't know if this is a normal experience. But if it is, I'm definitely coming back. Surprisingly, there was no line when I got there. I've been to Taiwan a dozen times, but never to Sharetea, so I had no idea what to get. I looked through the Yelp highlights and saw 'Okinawa' so I thought, why not? I always get no ice and 50% sugar, but the minimum for Okinawa was 80%, so I went with that. I figured if I didn't like it, I wouldn't get it next time. Waited about a minute before my drink was ready. But I didn't realize the boba came with it. I normally don't get boba unless I don't have time to eat a proper meal (not really a fan, I know, scandalous). I should've taken a look at the menu instead of the Yelp app so I would've known that it said Okinawa PEARL milk tea. Whatever, too late now. I took a sip there before I headed out. Total explosion in my mouth. The tea was amazing, it had this roasted flavor to it. And the boba. OMG the boba. It wasn't just chewy. It MELTED. I know I got the batch that just got scooped out of the pot because they were super warm. I felt the bottom of my cup and it definitely was warmer than the rest of it. I was so impressed. This girl don't even like boba! But wow, they totally got me. I was literally in Sharetea for three minutes. One minute to order, one minute to wait, and one minute to punch in the straw and sip. When I walked out, the line had grown hella fast and was nearly out the door. I'm not surprised. Maybe I got lucky, but this drink blew everything else out of the water. Five stars in three minutes. High-quality, excellent pearl milk tea. A tad more natural than typical boba places since they do use things like homemade taro instead of powder. Then they add condensed milk and refined white sugar, but we don't need to think about that. Their pearls are really good. Not too mushy and definitely not too hard. This requires good timing, and freshness of each batch of pearls. They give you a lot per drink, but at least the drinks are tall so that you can fit them in a cup holder. If you're a frequent, regular fan of San Mateo's Sharetea, you'll be disappointed with this branch's offering. Their black & green tea lacks that "tea" flavor, maybe because they use different type of tea leaves or that drinks are too concentrated with flavored syrups. The Creama isn't fluid-like, before and after shaking it up. It resembles closer to a fluffy glob. They do have three new Creamas: Strawberry Black Tea, High Mountain Tea and Peach Green Tea. Advise that you don't come here with high expectations if you love Sharetea in San Mateo. For those who haven't tried before, this may be the best joint for bubble teas around the area alongside Asha Tea House. read more

I am on a quest to find a great boba place in NorCal. There aren't many boba places around my house that I enjoy. Sharetea is one of the few that I do. The first time I ever tried Sharetea, I got the oolong tea crema and oolong tea with a scoop of ice cream. I thought the oolong tea crema was too sweet due to the crema. The oolong tea with ice cream was perfect. Recently, I got the roasted brown rice tea with a scoop of ice cream. And I really enjoyed it. I thought it tasted better than the oolong tea one. As you can tell, I love that scoop of vanilla ice cream with my teas. So I definitely recommend getting a scoop of ice cream with your tea. The place is kind of clean and the service is fast. The staff is really friendly and willing to answer any questions you have (like what's mountain tea and beauty tea). Parking around this area is a bit difficult. But once you find a parking, there are a bunch of food places you can check out around there. read more

This place was a hot mess on a weekday last week. It was packed with people, muggy, with garbage everywhere. Yes, they were busy...but it made the experience a little shaky with the mess to be found at every turn. I ended up ordering a black tea creama with tapioca. The tapioca was way overcooked...mushy and frustrating. The tea, itself, with the cream was decent. I ordered it with the littlest amount of sugar possible which is a staple for me. One of the top boba places in Berkeley, right up there with Asha. I go to Sharetea mainly for their fruitier drinks, which really stand out among all the other Berkeley boba shops. The creamas are a must try - my personal favorite is the mango green tea creama. They provide little plastic knives so you can cut a slit in the lid to drink out of. The physics of this drink are incredible! If you tilt the cup more while you drink, you get more tea, if you tilt the cup less, you get more cream. Ingenious application of fluid dynamics here. The regular boba milk tea is good too. The Okinawa and Hokkaido are interesting flavors that I don't see elsewhere. They're open again! Probably my favourite Berkeley milk tea spot right now. Their drinks are all so good, pearls are always on point, and the whole DIY shop thing is pretty cool. Right now you can order online or in person at a kiosk. They have tables blocking you from really going too far inside and you don't actually interact to order, which I think is the best option. Their drinks are still as good as I remember. Their Thai milk tea is one of the best; very strong and flavourful - definitely jolts you awake. I like their coffee milk tea, oolong, high mountain, really all of them. Tried fruit flavours today: strawberry milk tea and mango milk tea. Both were delicious. Strawberry milk tea tastes like really good strawberry ice cream, not much tea flavour I think if you don't reduce sugar. Overall, highly recommend if you're craving milk tea. Also recommend checking out their shop if you're interested in recreating the experience at home. I came here maybe 15 min. after they opened on a Tuesday morning so they weren't busy at all and I was able to place my order right away. I think I will probably come in the morning time now instead of wasting my time waiting in the afternoon when the wait is at least 20 or 30 min. long. My go to drink here is the Coffee milk tea, it is 3.50 with tax, and is the perfect blend of coffee and milk tea flavor. It is not as sweet as the regular milk tea or the Okinawa milk tea. The Okinawa milk tea is my favorite but it is so sweet that I would probably get diabetes if I had it all the time. This place was busy busy! Me and my boyfriend went at about 5 in the evening to try a new boba spot we hadn't been to. Found parking the next block over. After 12pm, I cannot have caffeine or I'll be wide awake! I was super happy when they noted their caffeine free options on their menu, not most places do that, so I really appreciated it. I got a blended taro with pearl and my boyfriend got a mango pearl tea. I LOVE taro, so I knew what to expect. My tea wasn't too cold, which sorta bummed me out, it was really hot yesterday! My boyfriends was the same case. We didn't even ask them to adjust how much ice was in it, so we assumed it would have been the average amount. And mine was a blended drink, so the ice was blended. . Let me break it down for you. It's actually really fantastic. And that would conclude my review if I don't have a story to tell. I originally heard about this place being over in San Francisco, or south bay or something, and my sister told me the other day that they opened a location in Berkeley, so me wanting to try all the fun food stuff on earth put this on my list of things to try. I tried a week prior and oh my god, there were so many people in Berkeley, especially on Bancroft and there was no parking at all so I had to forgo my adventure that day. Fast forward to last weekend (5.03.14) I was given the opportunity, after dinner at Kiraku to try this place. The way back to Albany/El Cerrito is heading that way anyways. We were able to quickly find a parking spot and walked to ShareTea. As we walked in, it was kind of chaotic. Berkeley students or everyone that decided to visit that night have no idea that after you pay, you should get the hell out of the paying/lining up area so people who have just come in know you have paid and is just waiting for the drink. After that small hiccup, we found the line and looked at the menu. Now I usually don't get pearls/boba but I was told the Okinawa Pearl Milk tea was actually really good, so I ordered that when it was my turn to pay. My friend got the... I think the Mango Green Milk tea. We paid and waited on the side so incoming patrons know where to line up, and we were called our numbers shortly. My friend said his drink was good, and I really enjoyed my drink too. There was a strong tea flavor, and the drink wasn't too sweet either. The boba was soft, chewy, and easily edible, not rock hard, or mush. Aside from the parking situation, I actually really enjoy this boba establishment. Surprise right? They utilize the Five Stars drinks reward program, and take orders via iPad. Mmmm...I've finally found boba that is reminiscent of milk tea stands in Asia (definitely miss my study abroad days!). The customizing of ice and sweetness is very versatile and I'm glad it's finally catching on in America. If I can't go to downtown Berkeley for Asha, then Sharetea makes a great South Side choice that is close to campus. I like how their menu is diverse without being overwhelming. Each category is labeled (fruit teas, milk teas, cremas) on the wall if you aren't sure what to look for. Instead of blocking everyone by staring at their billboard, they have laminated menus for you to ponder to your heart's content. I love the artsy boba paintings on the wall -- look around if you need some boba menu inspiration! Popped in on an afternoon with a group of people and got to try a couple different items. - Okinawa Pearl Milk Tea (roasted brown sugar milk tea with pearls) Apparently one of their more popular flavors, got it with classic boba pearls and enjoyed it thoroughly. Boba was softer/fresher than I have gotten at other places. Taste was mild sweetness almost like a soft caramel mixed with black tea. Would recommend. -Green Tea Creama (green tea with whipped topping) This one was also recommended by my brother who had been here a few times. It was one I had not previously heard of- the "creama" was salty and sat on top of the green tea liquid. Mistakenly forgot to order with regular boba but it was almost not needed. The sweet green tea liquid paired with the salty yogurt like creama was tasty and different. -Taro with boba Sweet and good, light purple taro color. -Winter melon with grass jelly (Ordered lower on sweetness) This one was a weird flavor, and while I still don't know what a winter melon is, I will say its tasty. Almost peachy. The grass jelly, while personally not a fan over the regular boba was soft and plentiful. Quite large chunks so unless you're a lover of boba and want to venture stick with another kind. (They have quite a selection) Best boba I have had overall. Definitely the hands down BEST place for boba in Berkeley. Tops everything else! DRINKS My go tos are the OOLONG MILK TEA (50% sugar) and the GRAPEFRUIT GREEN TEA (50% sugar). Oolong MT: The oolong milk tea has a very creamy taste to it and the tea flavor definitely comes through. Drinking milk tea makes me feel a bit heavy though so having this is definitely a treat! Grapefruit Green Tea: The grapefruit green tea is what I alternate with when I'm craving something lighter and more refreshing. The grapefruit taste is really fresh (even though it's probably not real 100% grapefruit) and it's not bitter at all, which some grapefruit green teas at other boba shops can be. Others I've tried: Okinawa MT: What sucks is that the lowest sugar level you can go to is 70% which is still WAY too sweet for me especially with the boba which has sweetness to it already. It's definietly a HUGE treat if I get it and usually by halfway point I'm a little bit sick of it just because of how sweet it is. I'd really hope for a 50% sugar version or even lower just because I love the taste of the Okinawa MT. The black sugar taste really comes through and it just gives an amazing aroma to the milk tea. And it pairs absolutely well with the boba too. Brown Rice MT: Meh, it's okay. I felt it was a bit bland compared to the Oolong and Okinawa but that's probably just because brown rice tea is a lighter tea than the other two. Nothing too special imo. Passion Fruit Green Tea: Really good and refrshing too. I just don't like the seeds in it but otherwise the flavor is super fruity. A good combo of sweet and slightly tart just like grapefruit. If you don't like grapefruit, try this out. Honey Green Tea: Great with aloe and it's perfect when I'm also looking for something lighter but sweeter than the grapefruit. The grapefruit has a hint of tartness just from the fruit itself but since this is pure honey it's definitely on the sweeter side. Sucky part is also that the lowest sugar level is 70%. Wintermelon Tea: This is actually really good! I was pretty scared of iit at first but I found it to be really refreshing, but it definitely leans towards the sweeter side. I'd suggest at least 50% sugar if not lower. It has a very "wintermelon"y taste that I can't quite describe but it's a warm almost brown sugar-y tasting tea. If you're feeling adventurous, give it a shot! Whole lemon green tea: Not worth it to me just becase they throw the whole lemon in and you get a lot less of the drink than you would if you ordered any other drink. I'd go for a fruit tea rather than this. TOPPINGS BOBA IS THE WAY TO GO. Sharetea always has it down to the right chewiness. Chewy but not gummy, and most of the time it's not soft and soggy which I absolutely hate. They cook the boba in black sugar I believe which is a lot different from other boba shops that cook their boba in honey. The black sugar smell and taste definitely comes through because it infuses that black sguar sweetness into the boba. You can even smell that black sugar sweetness when you walk by Sharetea's store itself. ALOE is another one of my favorites if I'm not feeling boba (which is very rare). Aloe pairs really well in my opinion with fruit teas like grapefruit green tea, passion fruit green tea, honey green tea etc. It has a slightly chewy texture and it's definitely healthy for you! Good for the skin :) SERVICE Cashier is pretty to the point usually but those serving the drinks and calling numbers tend to be pretty friendly! They've always asked if I needed a bag etc etc. Line gets long at random times but these past few times I've been there's luckily been not much of a line. I've given this same Sharetea a *5-Star* review in the past but one thing they've always done wrong is consistently put ice into my drink after I clearly said no ice whatsoever. I said no ice for a reason, yet they never listen. I've been nice enough to just take the drink without having them remake it several times now. Maybe i'll update my review when they start listening. Whatever you do, don't get their Hokkaido milk tea. Coming from the 626 where milk tea and boba are in abundance, sharetea's Hokkaido is by far the worst I've ever had. In fact it was so bad (as in its so watered down that it tastes like water and sugar) that I had to ask them to remake it. And even after they gave me some attitude and remade it, it tasted even worse. Wtf??? It was even more watered down than the first. In the end, I just ended up tossing my whole drink away. I've never went back ever since. But if there is one drink I would order again it would be the taro or matcha smoothies. Otherwise I have no idea what the hype is. Mmmmm Sharetea is PERFECTLY (or horribly, in my wallet's opinion) located on my walk to class and about 99% of the time I pass by, I contemplate getting something here. As a UCLA grad and new Berkeley transplant, it's VERY CLEAR that the boba offerings near Berkeley are soooooo much better than anything within walking distance at UCLA. Sharetea actually reminds me of Coco Fresh Tea & Juice on Sawtelle! Both places are relatively quick, the boba is reliably soft and chewy (though not the best I've ever had), and their drinks aren't overly sweet. My go-to drinks are: - Okinawa Milk Tea: I think this could also be called a Brown Sugar Milk Tea which would be way less confusing, but this is my favorite for that yummy brown sugar flavor - Mango & Passionfruit Green Tea: I really like that it literally has mango and passionfruit bits inside, and it totally hits the spot on a warmer day. My only complaint would be the lack of cup size options. They charge $4-5 by default for what would be considered a "large" at other boba shops. There are times I just can't bring myself to throw down $4.50+ on a momentary craving.....somehow $3 sounds better to me :( Regardless, Sharetea will continue to be my default boba-run shop! read more

I must say that the boba tea here is a bit expensive. Nonetheless it is the tea that the Bay Area craves and overall I'm satisfied with the tea. I liked my drinks: mango and passion fruit green tea with mini pearls, whole lemon black tea, and match tea creama. The passion fruit tea is a classic wherever I go so it was definitely a "go to" in case I run out of choices. The whole lemon black is ok but the lemon slices take over most of the cup so I'd advise to ask for less slices. The creama was very good! Be sure to ask for less sweetness because the cream adds enough sweetness as it is. Drinks were good. The prices could be cheaper. But having said that, not bad. read more

Situated next to the Career center, within walks from the RSF, and semi-hidden by the storefront pillars, I hope this place continues to get lines of business, because damn, Sharetea boba is yum. I've been dying to try this place since they opened the San Mateo branch but the prices for drinks are too expensive for my college budget!!! And although I occasionally splurge on boba from time to time, it's hard to shell out $4+ on boba you've never actually tasted (lol the conundrum, ofc you've never tasted it if you don't shell out the money to do so...) anyway, swooped in on their BOGO deal and yes, waited 50min+, but what will keep me coming back is their boba flavors are VERY different from the other places around town. I thoroughly enjoyed my Wintermelon Crema and my friend's Matcha Green Tea Crema. *****For those unfamiliar with "crema,", it's basically a white salty, yes some SALTY goodness!!, foam poured on top of your drink. some people like to slit the top open to drink the foam, hence there's these little knives for you to use, but you can also just drink it traditionally by mixing it with the rest of your drink. tldr; IT'S GOOD. I LOVED my wintermelon crema, and I would recommend you get crema with everything. If you have a boba craving and are near campus, Sharetea gets the job done, but there are definitely better places nearby, such as U-Cha down the street. There's also TeaOne across the street, and Gong Cha is also a few feet away. I don't usually go to Sharetea because I'm not a fan of how they use powder for most of their drinks, which makes a big difference for drinks like their Regular Taro Pearl Milk Tea, where you can clearly differentiate between artificial and real flavor. That being said, I do enjoy their Honey Milk Tea (Hot), Passion Fruit Yakult, and Whole Lemon Green Tea. I'd avoid the QQ Drinks and the Winter Melon with Lemon Juice. read more

Just opened, so hopefully they can keep up the quality. I will say, despite the massive number of boba places around Berkeley, ShareTea will probably still give them a run for their money. The quality is good, and I like the fact that they also offer fresh milk tea, so you so don't have to feel too guilty of drinking all that non-dairy creamer all the time. Of course, like all good boba places, you can adjust your levels of sweetness and ice. While it is more expensive, I think their normal size is actually a large at other places, so it evens out. They also have a good variety of special milk teas, like Okinawan style and fruit ice teas. Tons of "sinker" options, and if they can work out the line/wait, definitely a 5 star place. read more

After a spontaneous date night in Berkeley, I was craving some bubble tea and noticed that Sharetea is now open in Berkeley, a new place I've heard about and been wanting to try. At 830pm, there were no lines and we got to the counter right away. There was several groups of college students hanging out inside and near the tea shop which is no surprise since it is right by the Cal campus. I got the hot taro tea with pearls. The tea tasted fresh and delicious and there were real pieces of taro mixed in with the hot milk tea. The pearls have a sweet and chewy consistency that are perfect with each bite. At $4.25, it was a little steep. But since I don't indulge on bubble tea too often, I may just be back to try another flavor when I'm in the area next. read more

OH man, this place is so goooood. I got the Mango Green Tea Crema on the recommendation of a friend and that was really really good. It was so different then regular boba drinks. I really liked it. Seems to always be a crowd though, but service is pretty fast. It was my first ever Crema too and it was so delicious. So excited to hear that there is a place in SF that's opening now though! The milk tea here really tastes like authentic tea. I ordered the honey milk tea with 80% sweetness with coffee jelly, but it was so sweet. That's apparently the lowest you can go with the sweetness with this specific drink and some of the other milk teas even though there are the lower options. The jelly was less sweet than the milk tea itself. I could tell because I ate the jelly at the end since it was a bit hard to suck it through the star. No complaints about that because I understand that is the biggest straw you can get. I seriously give 5+ stars for the service, especially the online service which is so convenient. We ordered online and our drink was already ready within five min even though they said by 10!! read more

Definitely a boba place to try if you like boba. We took the BART to get to Berkeley and it was worth it. We got peach milk green tea, the taste was out of this world. Silky smooth and refreshing, the taste was that of sweet, almost candy like peach essence blended perfectly with milk and tea. They have many sweetness levels and ice levels too. I got less ice and 80% sweet which worked well for me. So whether you've gotta walk, bike, drive or take the train to try this place, it is amazing.
