This ain't no normal India meal I tells ya, it's a taste experience in itself. Dishes I have never tasted or even heard of before are lovingly described on the menu. I mean, how can you not love a place that as you sit down put some fish chutney in from of you..."enjoy" So I had eaten in the veggie version of this place just across the street and decided to try, now in my full carnivorous state, to sample to meaty menu. I was actually surprised, I mean the menu is not as extensive but the service was by far better and the food just as tasty! We ordered a selection, as I always like to, from the starter and mains menu and some soft drinks. It was lovely, really lovely. Now what I think swayed me a little bit more to like this place was where they say us. The venue is 3 rooms and we were on a little table in the back connecting "walk-way" room. This meant that my eating partner got to sit next to each other and not at opposite end of the table, which is something I love, as well as watch everyone else's yummy food pass us.... mmmmm. Perfect!

After dining at Rasa, going to any other Indian restaurant in London, now seems pointless. This is without doubt the best curry I have ever eaten in London. This is not curry for the drunken masses- there is no lurid mango chutney or greasy naan breads in sight. Instead, Rasa serves up the most delicious and subtle Kerala vegetable and fish curries, which should be mopped up with a few of their incredible parathas (I recommend at least two per person) I have tried pretty much everything on the menu and the only thing that slightly disappoints me is that it costs £5 for pappadoms and chutneys. They are delicious but they cost more than the main dishes, which seems quite steep. Like its menu, the service too is impeccable- I have probably eaten there no more than 6 times in the last year, yet the waiters know exactly which wine, starters and main course I like. I love everything about Rasa- even its gaudy pink décor.

Believe all the hype and good reviews, Rasa is amazing. I went for my first time about a month ago to celebrate something... I can't remember what it was, I probably just wanted an excuse to pay this place a visit. I am a big fan of South Indian and I have to say that this is the best I've had in London. My partner and I shared a mixed selection of dips for a starter, which was an incredible amount of food for a very small amount of money. The main courses are quite big, notably the pancakes that resemble a trumpet in their shape and size. The food was all of an amazing quality, and I quickly realized why it was so busy. My only reservation, and the reason I did not give it 5 stars, is the fact that the waiters forgot our water a couple of times. I know that is only a small thing, but I guess that means the place must be great if that was the only problem.

Rasa Travancore deserves as many praises heaped on it as its vegetarian partner across the street. The pink decor and heavenly aroma of curries is similar, but Travancore specializes in seafood and meat from Kerela. The cuisine is focused more on fish and seafood, as Kerela is mostly on the coast. I had an amazing lamb curry here, marinated and in a lovely spicy broth. Wow! was my instant reaction. I love being surprised by really good food in London, and at affordable prices too. The staff are lovely, the bagar baingan I wanted was only being served in the other restaurant, but our waiter even offered to go over and bring it for us. We didn't take him up on it, but the thought was nice. You can also bring your own bottle of wine inside - a winner on all counts!

Gujarati Rasoi has a cool vibe, Dalston hipster style. The kitchen is open, and the smell of the food permeates everywhere, which is a good thing when you're inside, but beware; your clothes will need some aerating after dinner ;) The menu is simple and short. You can tell that this is going to be home cooking style. As we were 2, and we wanted to sample most of the menu, we agreed to take all 3 starters and have 3 small plates from the mains, along with rice and raita. The Papri chaat was authentic, but needed a bit more kick according to my friend. Still, we very much enjoyed it and wolfed it down ravenously. The Ringan Burthu Ne Rotla was also very delicious. The Millet bread was a bit on the dry side, but the aubergine topping with caramelised onions was addictive. We washed those down with some nice house cocktails that is recommend. The palak paneer was different than want I'm used to. The spinach was served wilted, and it felt like a nice, earthy, healthy dish for once. The sukaria was delicious and I highly recommend it. We couldn't get enough of it. The sweet potatoes were perfectly stewed. The methi (flat bread) was more disappointing, as it was a bit dry and bland. The rice was tasty and the raita was beautifully presented (reminded me of Bircher muesli). For dessert, we shared a chai kulfi and it was absolutely delicious. I have high hopes for the pista kulfi which I fully intend to order next time I'm here. All in all very good food, all vegetarian, and reasonably priced (~32£ per head with a cocktail each). I'll definitely be back.

One of our group has a tomato allergy and we weren't sure how much of a selection he would have. The waitress went back and redlined the menu to show what he could have, what he couldn't, and what they might be able to alter. Super nice and it didn't take more than a few minutes. As for the food, a-maz-ing Indian. I recommend their prawn special - not too spicy but very flavor forward. The naan was a nice side to order as well. This location is fairly big with seating on the main floor, downstairs, and outside in a cover lounge area. We had a reservation, although they probably could have handled us if we didn't. That said, it was a busy weekend and the place looked fairly full by the time we left, so maybe grab a reservation. Enjoy!

INSIDE Spacious, clean, and plenty of seating both upstairs and down. MENU For larger parties, they recommend their prefix menu which includes a various sampling of lots of delicious items. FOOD 10/10 I haven't eaten Indian food much, but was thoroughly impressed. From my mango lassi which was perfectly sweetened and tart to buttered buns, fried okra, black Dahl, garlic naan, and lamb skewers, everything was delicious. I esp loved the lamb skewers! We ordered a side of garlic naan with cheese which is basically a quesadilla and it was super cheesy and delicious as well. OVERALL Would def recommend Dishoom when visiting London. It'll definitely be a hit in your books!

However, this place manages to deliver far inferior food at more than double the price. Firstly, to dwell on the positives. The space has been well-designed. There are small tables, low lighting and a nice buzz to the place. My only complaint would be that the tables are so close that you are almost dining on top of your fellow guests. However, the food is terribly disappointing. My palak paneer was undercooked. Five pieces of lightly charred paneer on a bed of almost raw spinach. This cost nearly £12 pounds. My wife ordered a bean curry. It had such as astringent taste that she had to leave most of it. Rice and bread were an additional cost. Service was brisk but hurried. We were left waiting to order a second drink and decided to pass in the end. My overall impression was that this place is charging medium to high end prices for low end food. The final bill was over £55 with a shared starter, two mains and two drinks. At £30 it might have looked like decent value. If you are looking for nice vegetarian Indian food - try Rasa up the road on Stoke Newington Church Street.

There's a bit of a sales emphasis on the 'authenticity' of the menu and the food which made me a touch sceptical, but the taste compensated for that. (I have no idea if this was an authentic taste but it was good!) The waiting staff, although a touch slow to take orders and rather hurried when they did, were very pleasant. Overall, it's the price tag that left me a little disappointed. The portions were enough to leave you satisfied - we shared a starter, two mains and two sides - but it just felt a little bit too much to pay...
