Had an overall wonderful experience getting my first undercut with Rashad! I was able to get a cut the same day I called which for me is unheard-of! Came in and shop was super clean with some Anthony Bourdain on. Had some great barbershop convos while I got my cut! My son had been growing out his afro since the summer because he was intent on being the Black Panther for Halloween! Now that that's over, it was time for a new haircut. My daughters have practice the area, so I figured I would see if there were any barber shops I could take him to. I found Rashad on Yelp and was glad to see that he was open, as most shops I have seen take Mondays off. He had a client in the chair and one waiting, but he was very accommodating, since we didn't have an appointment. When I asked how long the wait would be (as I was worried about the timing to pick up my other kids) he assured me it would not be longer than a half hour. I have waited in barber shops a long time before, so I figured if he took too long, I could just come back another time. He was so quick, he finished the two clients and had my son in the chair before the time he'd said. My son went from an unkempt afro to a nice taper with a design on the side! Rashad is truly talented and was very nice, and made my son and I feel very comfortable. As the mother of multi-ethnic children, I am used to getting strange looks when I take them to get their hair done, but there was none of that here! Had a great first experience here but my second experience was awful. Made an appointment at 3 pm for an undercut with a design. Walked in the door at 2:50 for him to tell me he had 2 people ahead of me. Why would you make me an appointment if you already had people coming in? Or why would you take walk ins when I had an appointment? I don't mind waiting a little while..10, 15, even 30 minutes..i ended up waiting TWO HOURS for him to finally get to me. What bothered me more was that he was taking his time, checking his phone during the cuts, changing the movie on Netflix..at least make some effort to move with a sense of urgency! Or at least tell me to come back at another time! It was horribly unprofessional and honestly just disrespectful of my time. I get your time is important which is why I made an appointment in advance and showed up on time. The only good thing I can say is that everyone who works here is very friendly and nice. Even my undercut wasn't done with much care! I got knicked a few times and had razor burn too not to mention that once I got home and had someone take a picture so I could get a better look I realized that it was crooked and uneven. I also realized after finding a new barber that doesn't waste my time that he was seriously overcharging me (I now pay $20 less for a much better job and on schedule appointments) but I guess that's my fault for not knowing better. Poor business practices all around. Was schedule for a 10 am appointment. Stayed in the shop until 1pm only to be told that they are rescheduling me until 6pm, for an impromptu dentist appointment of theirs. (Okay I'm fine with that health is important) I get back around 6:30 pm wait until 10:30 pm until I'm actually even in a chair. THEN I'm not done until 2:30 a.m. Come to find out my family is friends with DL so I figured for the inconvenience and the family friends connection I'd get some kinda love on the price. NOPE! Forgot to mention I scheduled the appointment earlier in the week specifically asked for a quote on price, wouldn't give me one. I asked for a ballpark on price. Wouldn't give me one. Final charge $175! I have NEVER EVER been charged that much for a retwist in all my life! RIDICULOUS. NO STYLING. NO DYING. JUST A RETWIST! Hate to down a black business but this was a hustle! You ever feel like you been scammed by someone and have that feeling of being robbed or hustled? Well that's me right now! I will NEVER go back! Nor will I EVER recommend anyone go to DL or this shop. I'll do the opposite and tell them to find someone else. I respect the hustle not being hustled especially by another black man.
