I got booked with Christian A. He took one good look at the picture I requested and cut it exactly like the picture. Only took 30 minutes, cut my hair with a fade and ended it off with a lineup with shaving cream and a razor, then put alcohol on it to cleanliness. Vibe of the place is really cool, with sports decorations, skateboards, hockey sticks, and two TVs. Overall great service and will be coming to this establishment again. read more

Man... I really wanted to like this place. I was going to give a worse review, but I didn't want it to reflect on the owner and others because this place is probably pretty dope. Don't hate on everything. I typically stay with a good barber shop once I found one that I like. It's a very chill vibe and seemed to be right up my alley, but Ulises must've been having a bad day. Said but two words to me, and didn't wanna hear me out when I sat down. I was actually impressed with all the skateboard gear and memorabilia of our city that I love so much decorating the walls of a very beautiful barbershop. Bottom line is, I was a first time customer and wanted to make some small talk to explain my hair and this dude wanted nothing out of it. I could tell he took his time on certain parts...care even, but at the end, my hair was crooked.... One side longer than the other.... A bad fade to blend up. All I asked was if he could trim up the one side ("this side is a bit longer than the other" I said) before I stood, but his response was, "LONG??!" With such a fucking arrogant attitude. This was one of the 10 words he spoke to me in the entire time. Fact of the matter is I like to look crisp after a new fade, and frankly left pissed. His attitude was all wrong and I didn't want to get my hair more fucked up. I tipped him 10 bucks because that's how I roll. I grew up in the neighborhood. I don't appreciate people talking to me like a chump. If you know your craft, then work with your customer and make something beautiful of it. New to the area, I decided to contact Rose City Barbershop for a quick haircut. Looking over the Yelp reviews and website, I decided to make an appointment with Christian. Easy to navigate the calendar and availability and booked a midweek appointment for a standard trim ($25 before 6pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, $35 regular). The shop is small, with about five chairs, fully decked out in proud LA Lakers, Dodgers and Kings memorabilia, throwback comic book toys and artwork, along with two TVs simultaneously showing sports, Rambo marathons, or other testosterone-charged movies to cater to predominantly male clientele. The shop was clean, light and welcoming. Christian was very friendly, had a great attitude and did a fantastic cut. He constantly asked what I wanted and how things were progressing along the way. Even cleaned up my neckline and sideburns with a straight edge razor. He did a great job and I would recommend him or any of the staff for any of your hair and shaving needs. For a weekday in the middle of the afternoon, most of the chairs were full. Also, there is plenty of free street parking in and around Washington. I've been coming to Rose City Barbershop for well over a year and I have nothing but good things to say about the shop. I can appreciate a good ol' fashioned barbershop that is great at their craft on a consistent basis. I already know what to expect and that the minute I walk out of the shop I'll be oozing with self confidence and a dapper cut. I've tried pretty much every barber in the shop and all do a great job but my go to guy is Chris. Chris is able to get my haircut knocked out with precise execution in a matter of 20-25mins. This is unheard of for my thick, straight brillo pad hair type. He also offers a super easy to use online option to setting an appointment that I love and lastly he's able to get me in at 8am!!! I love this because I don't have to take time off work or make any adjustments to the rest of my schedule for the day. Their haircut rates are much better than any other shop around ($25 adult haircut) and on Wednesday's you can even get a special customer appreciation rate of $18. That's a steal. I wanted to give it another try. I never leave reviews. Last year I got a haircut from them I forget who but is was not good. My current barber was booked so I thought Id go back because maybe its changed. It did not. I booked with Chris and asked for a haircut similar to a modern mullet. His attitude was one like he didn't care. he was on the phone and seemed like his mind was somewhere else. When the cut was done my sideburns were uneven one was slightly faded the other wasn't. the back of my head was completely different to the photo I had shown. and overall it was not a great experience. Chris and Christian are what a local barbershop is supposed to be like. They are reliable, welcoming, and give great cuts. I have had cuts from both of them and I have to say they are talented. Rose City Barbershop is professional. It's clean and well maintained. I have to say this is a barbershop that the north part of Pasadena has been lacking in for quite some time. They are always flexible, allow walk ins, and give a man a professional or stylish (or both) haircut without charging some crazy salon prices. When it comes to a barbershop, consistency is what I need after all I described before. Christian and Chris are consistent and always make themselves available to the customer. You can reserve a spot online (preferred I hear) or walk in. They are welcoming either way. But, they keep their appointments, and give you the same quality cut every time. That's hard to find. So if you're looking to find an authentic local barbershop, Rose City is strongly recommended. And they have free refreshments while you wait, and big screen tvs without upcharging you.
