I stopped into Ululani's at the recommendation of my friend, and we both got our own, which is such a huge size in itself. You could easily share a Lilli (their regular size) between two people. For my flavor, I got the Sunset Beach combination with passion orange, mango, and guava, plus I added some of the Amy's Ice Cream on top that they were offering. Upon my first bite, it's truly impressive how compact the shave ice is. It doesn't even feel like shaved ice at that point and is more comparable to a popsicle in a bowl. This is what kids should be eating in the summer vs. your Konahama Bucks, and like Stan Twitter would say, Ululani clears while the rest are flops! It even had that unpleasant taste ice can get when it's been sitting around too long. The fruit toppings weren't fresh and bright either -- they were frozen solid and tasted like they'd been pulled straight from a forgotten bag of fruit in the bottom of the freezer and dumped on top. This place is too expensive to be such a letdown. We tried. We really did. Eventually, we just stopped eating it. I hate wasting food almost as much as I hate wasting money, but neither of us wanted to finish this. If you've never had really good snow ice, maybe this wouldn't bother you as much. But when you know how light, fluffy and delicious this dessert CAN be, this was an enormous disappointment. We won't be back. It was honestly that bad.

Guess what choice I opted for? Screech...that's the the sound of my brakes stopping. I turned into a neighborhood strip center where the Sisters SnoShack snow cone truck resides. My server told me the most popular snow cones were (Rainbow - multiple flavors, Hawaiian and Pineapple). Went for the rainbow...Snow cones have completely changed since I was a child. Sno cones used have this crushed ice that you sometimes get with sodas today. The Sisters SnoShack has very smooth ice...very velvety. The juice for the snow cone was robust and enjoyable to eat. Several picnic tables were filled with snow cone connoisseurs. Since it is next door to one of grocery stores we frequent...definitely returning.
