Moved recently from CT to Fresno and found this great store with a huge selection of dvd's and cd's. Im personally focused on the music. I buy burn then donate back the cd's so others can enjoy them. I haven't been to Rasputin since pre-pandemic. In fact, I found out it moved since my last visit. The new location, which is just south of the old place, is like a warehouse. There is a large clothing section with an equally large music area. Maybe the selection didn't match the previous store, but they had a sizable Beatles/Dylan/Springsteen representation. And to tell the truth, I don't spend my time going through the thousands of records. I just head to my favorites. read more

I don't understand why people have such a passion of hatred for this place. It's a used record store, close to tens of thousands of items on hand a time, policy and rules written and posted EVERYWHERE. The staff is hit and miss, but not everyone is required to be bubbly and up your butt with customer service. Any time I've had a question I've been helped successfully. And as far as Covid goes the only other place that REALLY enforced masks and temperature checks is a doctors office. I'm so glad they take the pandemic and it's impact on businesses seriously, more places should have these simple steps as protocol. Everything is priced openly and fairly, it's a great place to get lost in. Lots of gift ideas, I love coming here when I have a hard time finding a present. I can buy so much great material for my kids, a literal armful of music can be less than 50 bucks! I've been coming here for many years, and now my children are about to become teens so they can experience the rush of finding nostalgic gold in this store. read more

I like to peruse through the old vinyl at Rasputin, it's like a trip down memory lane. They did just re-open from lock down, so I get they're going to be a popular place, I just didn't expect THIS popular. Good for them, they've got some making up to do. I hope even buys lots!!! This is one the few businesses in town is pretty strict with their Covid-19 measures, as you'll have to mask up, sanitize, have your temp taken, and wait if the store is at capacity before it's your turn to enter the store after a customer(s) leaves. So are you tired of going on Netflix searching for movie or show only to see the dreaded "titles related to..." and nothing remotely close to what you searched for? Or how about going on Amazon Prime only to see what you want to watch is behind a rental or subscription paywall? It's very annoying right either pay up or settle for something else! Rasputin however offers a nice respite from streaming hell, here you'll find an abundance of cheap VHS, Dvd's, and Blu-rays from all genre's so you'll easily find what you're looking for! Everything is really cheap and in decent quality, however due to the amount of movies and tv series available you'll often see deals for as low as $1 and others for 3 for $10. read more

I've live here my whole life and last night was the second time being in the store. I forgot how big the place was! Walking in they had staff at the front to greet you; they also mentioned they are taking temperatures and require you to use the hand sanitizer - very quick and efficient. I went straight to the back to check out the records, I really liked the selection but did not allow myself enough time to look through them all. The store is so big that you definitely need some time to allow yourself to look through it all. I thought the staff was nice and had two different members ask me if I was finding all I needed. Ended up snagging some records and movies! Plus the music they were playing in the store is now on my radar to listen to. They close at 6:30pm on Monday's and I got there closing to closing, not enough time but I did it to myself. The checkout was quick and he even commented on my REO record (always fun) and I just had to buy a bag - anyway to support. Definitely recommend if you're looking for classic and timeless pieces! Ruben was at the front entrance making sure everyone had their temperature checked. He was very kind and let us know when we were able to come in. There is a max of 25 people allowed in the store. However, Chris was very rude. He was organizing some stuff around the store and came up to us out of nowhere. He barked at my boyfriend and said "PUT YOUR MASK OVER YOUR NOSE. I WILL NOT ASK YOU AGAIN." It seemed like he got a power trip over enforcing mask regulations. I quietly went up to Chris and told him that I did not want to make a scene. I tried to get him to see that he was not speaking to customers in an appropriate or friendly way. Apparently I wasn't keeping 6 feet in between us and he yelled, "Woah woah woah", as if I was a walking Covid machine. Chris was lucky enough to be our cashier as we checked out. He refused to make eye contact with me. I'm sure he felt a bit embarrassed. Nonetheless, the store has a great variety of cds, vinyls, and dvds for a reasonable price. read more

I've been to most of the Rasputin locations and have had "mostly" good experiences. Some have had problems with staff and what not, but for the most part they have been really accommodating. I've been been buying a lot of Blu-rays recently and this locations 3 for $10 section on Blu-ray's is a bit on the smaller side, but that's OK. The issue I had was one of the boxes of the films was heavily damaged which happens. In the past other Rasputin locations have had no problems switching boxes for me, but apparently this location has a sell as is policy. How hard is it to switch a damaged box for a non damaged one? The Rasputin's in Newark and Campbell have done this for me plenty of times, but this location seemed to be jerky about it. Overall, they have some good deals, but they really need some help with the attitude department with their management. You're not going to stay afloat for long with that type of perspective. read more

Oh man what a selection. I went in for one item. I was surprised at the size of the store and the selection. Way bigger than any bay side store I have been to. I found solid dvds for 50 cents too. Very friendly staff. They didn't make fun of me when I asked a question. The Bay Area stores make fun of you for asking. Like you should already should know. I felt at home here. I wanted to love Rasputin so bad! The environment here is just not a vibe. There are a handful of kind employees, the rest come off extremely rude & judgmental. The place has more rules and restrictions than I've seen in almost any establishment. It's actually shocking the more you pay attention. The music portion of this place is very straight forward and if ALL you're going in for is a couple records, then great! You will probably have a decent experience. If you're trying to buy/sell clothes from here or god forbid try them on, then I truly recommend you spend your time and effort elsewhere. I took in 2 large totes of lightly used, and NEW clothes to sell for store credit. In hopes that they'd see the quality of my items with no stains, rips, or fading, & pretty much take everything (or most of it) off of my hands for a decent amount of store credit to get my daughter some clothes. I didn't go in there for cash or a quick buck, I was planning on returning the love by purchasing items from them & supporting the business. The gal who was buying clothes that day needed some time so me and my family go on our hunt for clothes to leave with. Almost everything worth picking up & looking at was stained, torn, faded, or broken. We were so bummed. We found 4 items for our daughter that were in decent condition, the time came for us to go see what Rasputin had to offer for the items we brought in & when the gal said "$16 cash or $19 store credit" I was so shocked that I laughed out loud. The 4 items my daughter picked out already surpassed both of those amounts lol. Mind you it was for almost EVERYTHING I brought in, 2 totes full of new clothes, shoes, bags, etc. What they couldn't take were my seasonal items I brought in which I completely understood. (Jackets, sweaters, heavier material items) I didn't accept the store credit for obvious reasons, it's a long standing joke that Plato's closet is bad but let me tell you, Rasputin beats Plato's in that department! I felt better taking the clothes and literally just donating them to thrift stores around town. Somewhere I know they'll be sold at a decent price to people who need/deserve nice apparel. So we go about our shopping and looking & another gal let's us know you can only try on 5 items PER DAY. So really take your time choosing what you take into the changing room cause you can't go back! it was all just crazy y'all. If you've read this far then thank you, and just spend your hard earned money elsewhere. Rasputin is not worth it. read more

Wow! Zero customer service skills. The "manager" shorter gentlemen with long hair in ponytail was super rude. He couldn't even look me in the eye when he rudely brushed me off while I was asking him questions. Here is what I was there for... I ordered a classic movie that's largely out of print. Rasputin's doesn't even allow you to place an order without giving a minimum down payment. So I paid it. They told me to hang on to the recipe. I have 3 kids so in the shuffle of homework and mail the receipt was misplaced. This was a gift for my mother. I go into to pay the additional money to get my dvd that is sitting on their shelf and NOPE! They won't give it to me. Even tho their is required money in order to get a dvd, even tho they wrote my name and number down and said they'd call me when it came in (normally they don't do this, but they said they'd make an exception and took my info). An employee even admitted he remembered me PAYING the deposit, lol. But his hands were tied due to a corporate rule? What kind of corporation doesn't make note of special orders???? How disorganized. Random DVD's ordered come in and have no traceable record but that which was given to the customers? Business fail. So have fun with my deposit Rasputin's, use it towards some proper training of your management! read more

I love going searching for movies trying to get used to the new wave how they have things but it's OK I still can find things if not I ask for help and they help they're pretty good at that. I'm sick and tired of all the negative or poor reviews of the store and that the staff are rude and abrasive. I've shopped Rasputin Fresno since it first opened, and I have always been treated with courtesy and friendliness. I respect the strict rules regarding the wearing of masks, temperature taking, sanitizing and limiting 25 customers in the store at any time. If all Fresno retailers were as strict, we may have had fewer people getting sick. If you can't follow rules or find shopping at Rasputin Fresno as painful, stop your negativity and shop elsewhere. I am sympathetic to the current circumstances and protocols for businesses to follow, but this business seams to be a little overzealous! Having to wait in line to enter when there's hardly anyone inside shopping, taking your temperature and making you use hand sanitizer upon entry, telling you to stand on the x's on the floor when trying to check out, while all good for the cause, damages the experience. What really torqued me was the kid behind the counter telling me to cover my nose with my mask when it inadvertently slipped down while I was talking. You actually can exhibit some couth when dealing with your customer, I understand it feels good to have that feeling of power and control. It's not a "bread line" in USSR! It is however a unique business with unique customers, that can probably endure these days unlike so many retail establishments falling victim to online shopping. read more

Boyfriend wanted to come and do some crate digging! Love that all the staff have masks on! Right when you walk in they have a device you put your forehead close to and it takes your temp, and once they display your temp, they have sanitizer for you and just remind you to keep your masks on at all times! Alas, I am not a big fan of music so cannot speak to their selection. I brought a deceased friend's CDs, records, and videos here to sell. Brian, who was so gracious, helped me with this process, even unloading the boxes and boxes of records that I had taken from my friend's house. She was a music lover and had bought many of her CDs here, raving about their selection. I was very pleased with the whole process, receiving a small amount of cash for the collection. I very much like this place, as I can almost always find what I'm looking for. It's very convenient to call and ask if they have whatever it is I'm looking for, in stock. Everything is nice and organized, and finding things is not a problem. One of these days I'll go there and spend some time thumbing through the SUPER cheap movies, as I'm sure there is a gem in there somewhere. The only thing lacking, is the customer service when you're actually there. No hi how are ya, no asking if you found everything... it's all very transactional. I always come into this place ready to explore. Like really, theres just such a wide variety of options. I personally go for films more than half of the time, and I always find satisfying purchases. I felt like putting in a review just because I've heard a lot of backlash towards Rasputin. Especially towards the staff, yet I've never had a problem with them. They're all polite, and make conversation when they notice an interesting film I've picked up. There's so much to go through that it can be a bit overwhelming. Its surprising for how many movies there are that the movies for the most part maintain being in alphabetical order. Props to the employees for keeping the movies in check! I had a hard time finding 2 movies. I missed seeing both DVDs. what took me 30 mins to come up short, the employee found in under 2 minutes! My partner and I frequent this store when visiting my family in Fresno. We love laughing at movies that we once forgot about and finding great steals. That gets this franchise a 5 star What takes off a star is how rude the staff is. They follow you around convinced you're trying to steal from the store. And they have a bogus policy where you HAVE TO SAY YOU WANT TO USE YOUR CUSTOMER LOYALTY CARD DISCOUNT BEFORE THE TRANSACTION BEGINS. That means if you buy 7 Blu-ray's (as we did) and you expect to get $5 off (that's the deal they have now in April 2019) you won't. The sales person became flustered and told me it was impossible to go back....uhhhh why? It's 2019...you're telling me Taco Bell can deliver delicious burritos and crunch wrap supremes to my door OR have it ready at the drive thru but RASPUTIN can't give me $5 off when I'm buying $95 worth of merchandise? Bull. Ironic huh? They're customer loyalty discount program is a secret society you just have to somehow KNOW to say you want to use BEFORE you check out? Seems backwards to me, but what do I know? Thanks for your help Bryan. Your hair is awesome but you were kinda a jerk to me when I was nice and kind. Don't get me wrong, I gave attitude but only after you were incredibly rude. First lets list the good: Cheap Vhs, Some cheap DVDs, .50-$1 vinyl, and it's an option. The bad: Rude staff! (Guy with Afro is one of the rudest people I've ever had check me out) Vinyl is pushed into the corner and overpriced for new and the used is so mismatched and mixed that it's ridiculous. Also all used vinyl is on the floor making it 10 times worse to sort through. The reason why I decided to post a review is that while I was in line someone came in to discuss a situation where they left a porno DVD out in the open because they were in a rush and decided they didn't want it. The staff's reasoning for publicly shaming this guy was that "any kid could have found that and picked it up" the guy with the Afro rudely stated "that's a rule everywhere not just here, it's a rule for society." I'm assuming "the rule" he is referring to was not leaving porn where kids can get to it. Sounds only mildly ridiculous until you realize that these people (the staff) put their porno section right next to the Disney vhs tapes and the anime section. Literally an arms length away from children's movies. It's not in a corner, or a closet, it's not hidden in any way and anyone taller then a toddler can reach these porn dvd's. So for these people to publicly shame someone over leaving a porno out is totally hypocritical considering they not only stock it but they place it where the children gather in the store. I was going to rate three stars but they get one simply because they shamed someone for something they are doing on a level much worse then the person they shamed. And also for placing porno dvd's right next to Disney vhs I mean that's just common sense ( which apparently they don't have any ) read more

hmmmm....I just had a very, very curious experience with credit card fraud. The reason it was soooo very curious, you might ask? Well, I typically do NOT use credit cards, so my information isn't going to be littered all over our physical or virtual world. Where in the world had I been that I was sooo very careless about my credit card information that some clever individual(s) got a hold of it and made duplicate cards to ship to scandalous friends and family in Poodunk, Pennsylvania?? Where, where, where, my brain asked...to no avail. Then this past week, I was in Fresno and of course, stopped at Rasputin to drop duckets on some new music. Said purchase came to just over $100 and I broke out a credit card. Said girlie behind the counter said "oh, we have to take and make a carbon copy of your card if the purchase is over $100." I dumbly agreed, since all I care about at times like these are getting my music on. Walked outside with new tunes, hopped in the car and BLAMMM! massive credit card fraud epiphany strikes. Rasputin was where my information was stolen from - they collect card information, and some unscrupulous employee steals this information and creates duplicate cards with it. It don't take much - I'm know plenty of the "bad guys" myself! I immediately called my credit card company, reported that card lost. I also called the folks at the other credit card company where the fraud went down and reported my "epiphany" to them as well. Shoppers beware read more

Don't you hate when Yelp ends up having 2 different listings for the same place? I decided to put my review under this listing even though the other listing had more reviews. The other one is listed under "Rasputin's," which it's not, it's just "Rasputin." I don't fully comprehend the strange desire to want to make everything possessive by adding an apostrophe and an "s" to everything. Hell, at least Rasputin is a name and makes sense with the possessive apostrophe "s." I've heard people say, "Where'd you pick up that subwoofer?" "I got it from Best Buy's!!!" Or even better... "Let's go to Outback's tonight for a steak!" This habit people have always makes me "lol" in my head every time I hear it. Anyway, that's my little nitpick, and justification I guess as to why I decided to include my review on this listing. Rasputin's (I'm using it as a contraction!) a pretty cool store to just come in and get lost looking at a bunch of random shit. And yeah, there's some pretty obscure movies/albums/porn to be perused. Prices on new items aren't the best, but there's a lot of deals on used dvd's and cd's if you care to dig them out. I really miss when Gamestop used to buy and sell dvd's, so now Rasputin has to hold that torch for now, since Blockbuster is not always so reliable/affordable in that department. The place also has some pretty amusing pop-culture and band t-shirts. There's almost always some on sale. Last time I went, I picked one up for $12, and I've seen them a lot cheaper than that sometimes. Chances are, if you're looking for a specific movie or album, they have it here. They have a wide variety of formats dvd, blu-ray, hd-dvd, vhs, laserdisc, hell maybe even beta-max. Even if you're not looking for something in particular, it's still kinda fun to go through the aisles just to see what they have. You'll have some nostalgic, "blast from the past" moments, and just as many "wtf?!" moments. Seriously, everyone needs to check out Rasputin at least once. Go. read more

I used to love going in to Rasputin's because they were one of the few places that still sold records, but I went in today and it seems like things have gone a bit downhill. The selection isn't what it used to be, every single thing I wanted to try and get they didn't have in stock. Their used record section also seems to have disappeared, all that remains is 2 bins with .50 cent or $1.00 dollar albums. The customer service here isn't that great either, the girl at the register was being pretty snippy with everyone in line, barking out orders about how to stand in line and when to put your stuff on the counter, I was just getting a bad vibe from her. I don't know if I will come back, most likely I would try Spinner's in Tower and if that fails, turn to the internet. read more

Me: "Excuse me, do you have an album by the band Ondatropica"? Worker: "uh.. who"? Me: "Ondatropica... they're like a Latin jazz group, but I don't see it in the jazz or Latin music sections". Worker: "Um... let me go check". ...2 minutes later... Worker: "who is it again"? Me: "Ondatropica" Worker: "oh yeah we don't have it" ...2 minutes later...after looking myself I find the album I wanted in the European (???) section. This store and their employees simply do not take the extra time to find something for a customer. How about asking how to spell the exact spelling of the artist's name? Asking another possibly (but doubt it) knowledgeable employee? This was not the first incident I've encountered like this. But this store knows they have a monopoly of all the record buying needs in the valley. But Rasputin in Fresno... there's always Amazon. read more
