Wasn't sure this was the place but everything else said Rasputin.

I haven't been to Rasputin since pre-pandemic. In fact, I found out it moved since my last visit. The new location, which is just south of the old place, is like a warehouse. There is a large clothing section with an equally large music area. Maybe the selection didn't match the previous store, but they had a sizable Beatles/Dylan/Springsteen representation. And to tell the truth, I don't spend my time going through the thousands of records. I just head to my favorites.

I've live here my whole life and last night was the second time being in the store. I forgot how big the place was! Walking in they had staff at the front to greet you; they also mentioned they are taking temperatures and require you to use the hand sanitizer - very quick and efficient. I went straight to the back to check out the records, I really liked the selection but did not allow myself enough time to look through them all. The store is so big that you definitely need some time to allow yourself to look through it all. I thought the staff was nice and had two different members ask me if I was finding all I needed. Ended up snagging some records and movies! Plus the music they were playing in the store is now on my radar to listen to. They close at 6:30pm on Monday's and I got there closing to closing, not enough time but I did it to myself. The checkout was quick and he even commented on my REO record (always fun) and I just had to buy a bag - anyway to support. Definitely recommend if you're looking for classic and timeless pieces! Will definitely be returning.

Bought albums. Some are WAY over priced. I found others that were economical and in great shape!

They have a wonderful selection, very organized and well kept but the customer service could be a little better.

But they do have rare and indie releases that'll surprise you some times (especially to hipsters).

It's always friendly and helpful. The selection for psychology and philosophy is the BEST, better than a handful of libraries I've experienced in Fresno. The value is the BEST in town as well. I always spend $5.50-7 for a book. This is legit my favorite place! The most time I spent here was 3 hours! I love the square, walk around, upstairs- the showcase, the furniture & few chairs to read before purchasing. I love the atmosphere of this place. I will forever patronize here, as long as I'm in town or visiting.

The selection itself is huge. it's a two story bookstore. The individul sections or genres seem well stocked. Although the Horror section from what I saw was severely lacking most likely due to it perhaps being the biggest selling genre for them? The books themselves are in varying condition from Like New to Fair. I personally found some incredibly good looking books. Their prices are a big selling point for me, very fair and they run a 25% off mass market paperbacks. With all the positives, there's one negative I want to address and thats their trade in credit system. To be honest, It's pretty shady. They give you a great price on your trade-ins if they're good books, in good condition. Howevet, theres one big catch: You can't use that credit outright to simply pay for a book or two. They hold your credit hostage (for the books you gave them that they are going to resell and make a profit on) and you must either (A.) Spend the exact amount in cash that you have credit for in order to use that full line of credit, or you can (B.) spend under that amount and only be allowed to use half of your existing credit. You see, that way they have you on the hook. They got your books. They got your credit, and they're going to get your money too, by forcing you to pay just to gain access to your own credit. I was told by an employee "We have to do that or else we wouldn't make any money, we'd be just trading books for books." But thats not true at! They price them for a profit when they resell them. There are other ways to make the same amount of profit, perhaps more without the shady (and frankly unfair to the customer) business tactics. They could not have the 25% off mass market paperbacks discount. They could give a little less credit for trade-ins. They could raise their prices slightly. They could let their customers have full access to their credit without these special conditions that limit and punish the customer. They benefit at the customers expense in this way, and it is unethical, regardles if it is legal. The moral gray zone is real here. So, I learned my lesson and will not be doing trade-in business with them any longer. I might continue to shop there, but I'm paying cash, so long as the prices remain low. All in all, it's a good bookstore, but I dont like their business practices very much. For now, I still recommend, just don't do trade-ins.

There are also plenty of toys and fun items like LEGO sets and themed merchandise. Kids will definitely enjoy browsing around here. The selection is excellent and it's easy to spend a lot of time exploring the shelves. A great stop if you're looking for books or gifts for young readers.

Recent studies show a dramatic decline in Americans reading books for pleasure, particularly among…read morethe younger generations. We can primarily blame streaming devices, podcasts, and social media for that. I am first to admit that these distractions have led to my shorter attention span and fleeting interest in what used to be a hobby of mine, reading [for pleasure]. I vowed to change this as one of my goals for the year. This is why I consider myself fortunate that there is a Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Fresno. Barnes & Noble has a vast selection of books, children's games and toys, a music and movie store, a stationary, a kid's reading room, and a Starbucks inside for adults to do the same while enjoying a cup of coffee and a pastry. Moreover, they host in-store or virtual events every month featuring critically acclaimed authors discussing their latest novels. It is the largest online bookstore and the best destination for rare and collectible books, magazines, and games. I stopped reading magazines years ago when I ended all my various subscriptions. Sadly, this was around the same time I stopped reading for pleasure. The recent novels, including those that make the New York Times Best Sellers list, do not interest me. I gravitate to classic American fiction, graphic novels, history, humor, and biography. Barnes & Noble has a virtually boundless selection of them. A few years ago, it appeared Barnes & Noble was about to suffer the same fate as its competitor, the now-defunct Borders Bookstore. They have weathered the storm and have made a comeback, reporting strong sales in recent years. Like most Barnes & Noble which are known for their friendly service and keeping the stores clean and well-organized, this Fresno location is no exception. I always find the people who work here to be very friendly, accessible, and generous with their time. I have also noticed the staff are good at picking up misplaced books and magazines and returning them to their original location and will stop what they are doing to assist a customer. I get a nostalgic feeling whenever I step inside a Barnes & Noble. Reading is obviously a great hobby to pick back up on. I am lucky there is one in town I can always visit to springboard my renewed interest in reading.
