If you're looking for a quick post-beach, quality Mexican food this is the place! There's some indoor seating but on a hot summer day it's not very fun to sit inside the covered area because there's no AC. The outdoor seating is good for people watching but there's only 2 tables so I'm sure a lot of people just take their food to go. Definitely a very very casual, go up to the window and order kind of place. The food is worth coming to check out for sure! They have a great menu selection. The chicken quesadilla was deliciously cheesy and the chimichanga burrito was insane! I actually has never tried a chimichanga burrito before and I was pleasantly surprised. It was deep-fried (as they are) but not in a way that was too overwhelming or gross. This place is right next to Gelato 101! The menu has a lot of options and the prices are surprisingly cheap. I ordered beef rolled tacos which came in a pack of four. There is inside and outdoor seating which is nice. The service was quick and we got our food within 5-10 min! The rolled tacos had more meat than I usually get from other mexican places, so I recommend coming here! read more

Fish Burrito & Chicken Soup are the BEST hands down. Been coming here since I was 9 yrs old, my mom use to own the smog business behind in the alley for 15 years and I spent many summers working there and popping up to Raul's for lunch. We've since relocated her business closer to Lofty's/Leucadia and it's not as quick of a walk to grab Raul's as it use to be. With so many of the small businesses on this block being edged out by landlords tripling the rent, you have to cherish this spot! This tiny little spot has the best and most flavorful Mexican food I've had. Being a Southern Call native, I know good Mexican food when I taste it. The enchilada sauce is perfect. As an Encinitas native, this is my favorite hole-in-the-wall Mexican food places (literally). It brings back great memories of coming up here after jr life guards. The best is to order a California burrito at raul's (no sour cream or cheese, add rice and beans) (and they are always super accommodating and nice) and then order at the boba place around the corner. By the time you're done there, your amazing, taste filled burrito will be waiting for you to dump red salsa all over. You can make it the perfect outing by walking down D St to the lookout and watching the sunset, or walking down the stairs to eat on the beach. NOTHING beats this!!! read more

This is a no frills Mexican food shop on the corner of what seemed to be the main street in Encinitas downtown area. My boyfriend and some friends got some beer from Modern Times and wanted some food to eat alongside so we all went here for a fast and easy option. I ordered the fish burrito, and my boyfriend ordered the pork burrito. It was pretty busy when we arrived, but our order was ready in about 10 minutes or so. Man, this burrito exceeded all of my expectations. The fish was a simple white fish that was fried really nicely with an absolutely delicious cabbage slaw and some kind of light sauce (not quite a sour cream, more like a dressing?), and pico de gallo. It didn't have guac or rice or beans exploding out of it, and honestly it made me realize that stuff is just filler and it's not needed when you have a perfect burrito like this one. It almost felt light even with the fried fish and I honestly had to thoughtfully pace myself so I didn't devour this in 2 seconds. I would eat this every single week if I lived closer. Went to Raul's today (January 7, 2021) and had my usual battered fish burrito and my wife had her chicken & rice burrito. The food is just wonderful, the service fast, and always fresh ingredients. The prices are very, very reasonable, too. It's a walk up place during Covid, but they have outside sanitizer machines and require masks .... Customer service was non-existent. Wasn't greeted when I walked up to order, nor given any warm gesture by the cashier, pretty much didn't get a word out of the lady until she repeated my order. I ordered a veggie burrito and asked for fries to be added. NEVER have I been to a Mexican joint where the veggie burrito doesn't come with Guacamole, so that should have been a red flag. Price advertised for a veggie burrito is $4.50 yet somehow my total came up to $6.87, wasn't even given a receipt to price check for what I was charged. Waited a good 10 minutes for it to come out, and when I walked up I wasn't offered any salsas, I had to ask for them myself. Burrito was ok, nothing special. Not worth what I paid for it... save yourself the disappointment and go next door to Filiberto's where you can get better food with better customer service. read more

Life breaks free, it expands to new territories and crashes through barriers, painfully, maybe even dangerously, but, uh... well, there it is. Jurassic Park I had a good feeling about this place seeing the bag of chips with grease weakening the paper so the chips could burst out and be free like Kate Upton can barely be restrained by her bikini. :-) The chips were as good as they appeared. Freshly fried with a hint of grease there was the crunchy goodness and exploding with flavor. :-) I don't know if I can go back to eating old supermarket chips... The carnitas taco had carnitas spilling out of the tortilla. So much carnitas all for me! :-) Best carnitas to tortilla ratio I've had. :-) Love the flavor of the carnitas too. :-) I'm gonna alternate between this place and Carnitas Snack Shack! The carne asada taco was very good. Good flavor from the beef and a good amount of beef. This is an awesome hole in the wall taco shop to relax and watch the world walk by. :-) Note they only take cash and there is no restroom here. I thought I already wrote a review for this place?? I got the chicken Fajita brrito and added some pinto beans and cheeeeeeeeeese and my god was it gooooooood!!!! The burrito was so freaking good. The peppers\onions and whatever comes in a fajita was very well made. The chicken was good albet with a few burnt pieces. It was super cheap!!! I wish they had tamales though. I went again a week after and got the 'Taquitos' or as some call.. 'rolled tacos'. I'd really like to know when the 'rolled tacos' saying began cuz growing up I always knew them to be taquitos. so wtf... are tostadas 'flat tacos' ??? haha... ;) They have seats\tables right in front of the place and another sitting area inside to the right but its always good to grab and go and just roam the street checking out the area. I am back with a Mexican food spot that is cheap, convenient and ON POINT! Now to the list or reasons why.... 1. Perfect Carne Asada - I love Mexican food (born and raised SD) but I have not had carne Asada in a burrito as good as Raul's. You HAVE to get the California Burrito. No question. 2. Price point - To put it simply, the food is cheap. $4-5 for a burrito that is huge. My wife loves rolled tacos and she thinks they are the best. Those are only $3-4. (Per any change) 3. Laid back feel - You are in Encinitas, SUPER So Cal beach town. There is nothing more So Cal than a walk up taco shop 3 blocks from the ocean. My picture has a beer from Lost Abbey in it, just down the road and a GREAT spot. Improvements - Seating could be improved and ease of parking could be better (not their fault). Anyway...go to Raul's, get a California Burrito, go sit at Moonlight beach and plan a move to Encinitas or a great reason to "miss" your flight home. read more

It's a couple of block form the beach and convenient as heck. I like that it wasn't crawling with hipsters, they were at the trendier, more pretentious restaurants. My husband and I are new to CA, I am a home care nurse and my client introduced me to Rauls. I was very hesitant because I had tried many Mexican restaurants and they were to spicy. I was happy and very pleased when we went to Rauls, the kindness of the staff was very helpful. I work near and visit often until yesterday. It hurts me to know that Rauls would hire such a racist manager., that has no customer service skills at all. Never have I been treated with such rudeness. Our food was not what we had asked for and the manager called my 76 year old client a lier. I told the male manager that I heard the order and it is not correct. His comment was " You people like to play games, I am busy" . I wanted him to tell me who is you people and why can you not fix the order we returned it un touched ? I am sadden to know that 1. Nothing will be done to this rude and uncaring manager , sad to say maybe he is a family member , I say that because he felt to comfortable being EVIL. 2.
