But on Friday at about 11:30am we stopped in for lunch and found that the reviews were not accurate. The place was quiet and we were able to eat lunch and enjoy each others company. Our first several experiences is that is was the one of very few cool places to hang out in Prescott, full of interesting people, unusual art, good coffee, excellent wines, and a cool menu with veggie & gluten free options -- all reassonably priced. The raven went through a sudden transition - into a tourist- and rich-retiree trap. The menu was changed, the menu limited, insipid and overpriced, and the experience stultifying, definitely NO LONGER mellow. Bummer! A nice find while we were out scouting locations for future events in this part of Arizona. Food was good. We stuck with the basics of a smoked-turkey Rueben sandwich and the Tabula-Rasa hamburger. The dip for the sweet-potato fries (red-pepper aioli?) should be available to order in a glass with a straw as it's that good. I'm skipping ketchup for the regular fries next time and getting this. As others have said, it's a bit on the "crunchy" hipster side with a focus on organics but even meat-heathens like us were satisfied with lunch and regular ol' iced-tea. We're up there in Prescott a bunch in the next year or so and we've decided this will be a regular spot. They have lots of wines and beers but, keeping with the theme, I've "probably never heard of them." The live-music and open-mic line up looks spiffy and I hope to drop in to participate soon. On the last note, the staff was super friendly and never once rolled their collective eyes when I asked for drink refills which sometimes happen in these aware places. Be aware that if you are going for the cool upstairs/outdoor seating that you have to walk up some old, but secure stairs. Keep that in mind if you have family members to bring that can't navigate them. Winner overall. read more

It was a busy Sunday and took us almost 30 minutes to get our food. There was no apology for the pour service or any server who said, "Gee, I'm sorry." We come to Prescott every few months and have tried lots of different restaurants and I'd say by far the Raven Cafe is my favorite. First off the atmosphere is fun with new art being cycled in every so often. The feeling is so welcoming and inviting and I ate my dinner on the rooftop patio last night and it was divine. Second everyone who works here is delightful. Hard working, warm and happy. My husband and I are soon to be restauranteurs and I hope to have such nice employees! Last the food which should be first! The food is fan-freakin-tasting! It's just far enough outside my comfort zone to be exciting and new but not weird. They actually make my medium rare burger medium rare! Not the case in most places. Not my type of place. Ordered food at counter. A younger Lady that took my order seemed annoyed when I asked a question about the menu, and not very welcoming or nice. Food was good and came in a fair amount of time. The pricing is on the high side for this type of establishment and the place is a little dark and dingy inside. I stopped eating at the Raven several years ago but went there this morning with a friend. I ordered an egg white omelet w/rye toast and she ordered a salad. When our food came, my friend got nothing and I got an omelette with a salad on one plate, no toast. After explaining all that was wrong with this order, the server came back with the salad and a very cold egg white omelette and no toast saying that I didn't order toast ( didn't pay for it). I gave her cash and ask her for toast and ate the cold eggs. The server was very sweet but this is so parr for The Raven. The person taking the orders up front could care less! The people making the orders care even less. So there you have it. Great atmosphere but don't go there for the food! read more

Great beer selection but I'm really not a fan of the food... at all. You also have to order from a counter and as you stand in line, you are standing in the middle of their dining room with people eating all around you which made me a little uncomfortable. Hardly room to walk. I've tried Raven three times now and each time I went I was excited to try a new beer but by the time I leave, I'm completely underwhelmed. Probably won't go back. read more

After an absence of five months, decided to give it a try again for lunch. Burger was dry and served without any condiments UNLIKE the fries which were doused with hot spices! The menu neglects to say the fries are spicy! Tried to tell the "Executive Chef" my thoughts but he got defensive and critical. He needs some remedial training on customer service. Guess they didn't cover that at Trump Culinary Institute! He asked me how many restaurants I had owned! Also discussed a former cook telling me about job performance which should be confidential. Server told me they don't put catsup out because it's ORGANIC and the owner doesn't want to waste any!! Prices were raised by 25% about four months ago, kind of a steep increase for diner type fare. I run into people all over town who used to go there but no more!! Wake up and smell the ORGANIC HIMALAYAN COFFEE!! read more

The food is good but service is lacking. I want to sit and relax for breakfast and coffee not serve myself and get up over and over to put cream in my coffee. No utensils on the table which means no napkins. And we waited 20 minutes just to order when only two people were in front of us. ??? Not worth it. Too many other places to choose from in Prescott. (Gato Azul is the absolute BEST!!) When I asked for a napkin I was told it would come out with my meal. And the waitress dismissed me. I needed a napkin for my coffee and when I said I needed it now she was huffy and talked about me to the other waitresses the entire time we were eating. Rude. Won't be back. Also, for the last 3 years we recommended your restaurant to our customers , (at least 20 a day) but will no longer be suggesting it. Maybe training your waitresses to be polite is in order. read more

This is one of my favorite spots in town. It's got an amazing vibe and the food and drink selection are fantastic. It's hard to find spots like this in Prescott and I'm so glad it's here. We first found the restaurant because my sister-in-law is a vegetarian and we need a place with a large selection for her. Boy did we find it! I've ordered a number of items from here and everything is wonderful. Many of the meats are local and there are several organic items. They have a HUGE selection of local and national beers and wines and their coffees are wonderful too. When you walk in you have to order at the counter and they will bring you your food. Also, there is an amazing patio upstairs with a garden and a view and I would recommend always sitting out there on a sunny day. We've also taken our son there several times and he loves munching on the sweet potato fries. The staff is friendly and it's clean. I will keep going back to this restaurant over and over. read more

This is a nice pub type atmosphere and very popular. The food is not cheap but it is high quality and the servings are large. The décor is very nice, woodsy. The internet service is inadequate most of the time (unless they have installed new Wi-Fi since we last visited). Also the place is small and the music is usually really loud, with the bands unable to tone their volume and amplifiers down to fit such a small venue. We like it very much for lunch. read more

First time in Prescott. My family has been out to eat almost every day for over a week, sometimes twice a day. There is no need to get into specifics - compared to many other spots in town: Best beer selection. Great variety on the menu. Excellent organic and natural ingredients. Closed Sunday late afternoons - gotta let the staff rest sometimes. Fantastic music picks. Super relax environment. Patient and kind employees. Burgers, hummus, pita bread, burritos, fries: amazing. Haven't tried breakfast or coffee, but if they're consistent, I know it'll be delicious. If I am ever back in this place called Prescott, this will be my first stop - possibly my exclusive stop. read more

The Raven is definitely worth a visit whether you're a Prescott local or one of the flatlanders coming up from the Valley to escape the heat. It's a great respite from the honky tonks, dive bars, and tourist traps of Whiskey Row, and not a bad spot to grab a bite (though the kitchen has its issues described below). There is a beautiful roof deck in the back of the building where you can enjoy the sunset over Thumb Butte with a glass of wine or a beer. The extensive wine and beer lists have been expertly curated with some very hard-to-find vintages and brews. I wish they put as much thought and effort into the food. The food can leave a little to be desired here and there, as most meat dishes come out dry and the "special" bbq sauce that they put on certain dishes is really not very good (not to mention overpowering). Breakfast can be an adventure, as eggs cooked "to order" are cooked to whatever the kitchen wants them to be, not you. Sunny side up eggs somehow come up overhard (you're not even supposed to flip them!). Still, it's good for wine, beer, and a nosh. I give the 4 star review for the atmosphere and the drinks, not the food. One point of contention, however. I don't think the Soviet Ministry of Bureaucracy and Red Tape could come up with a less efficient ordering/delivery system than the Raven has. There's no table service. All orders are taken either at the counter below or the bar upstairs. If it's busy it can become a free-for-all at the counters and the lines get long. Food and wine/beer menus are not posted but instead placed on the ordering counter, so many patrons unfamiliar with the process wait in line, get to the front, and only then decide what to order, further holding up the line. Specials are also written in tiny print at the counters, not posted. The same person who takes your drink order then makes your drinks, so if it's a large or complicated order they are absent from the counter for a while, holding up the line even further. Once you place a food order you're given a large placard with a small number on it to post at your table, so you see your food come out and wander around the restaurant while the runner searches for the correct placard with the tiny number. The whole hassle really takes away from what is otherwise a pleasurable experience. Some other reviewers suggest they have this convoluted system so all transactions take place at the register, so the owner had more control over the money. That's fine. But they could alleviate so much of the bottleneck by just doing two simple things: (a) posting the menu or placing the menu books on a table where the line forms instead of at the ordering counter, and (b) having a dedicated barista or bar back who can fill drink orders while the counterperson focuses on taking orders. I can see the irritation with the process in just about everyone else in line, and other reviewers echo the sentiment. Just streamline the process a tiny bit and you might stop annoying your customers! read more

After reading all of the awesome reviews, was my expectation set a little too high? I've been wanting to come here for a couple of years now and I finally got hubby to give the nod. He's not too keen on walk-up orders, which I do not usually mind if the food is good. The server who helped us at the counter was very helpful and so sweet. They share the tips, which is awesome if you're a slacker! I wanted to give her extra, but she would have to pool it with everyone else. My hubby and I, each ordered the grass fed Raven Burger with sweet potato fries. My little cutie pie decided on the Pixie Chicken Nuggets and a cup of mixed fruit. I love the snazzy jazzy decor. The rooftop bar was way cool. We waited awhile for our food, when it finally came. We both ordered medium, but the patties came at room temp and it was so dry, it sucked all the saliva out of my mouth.. The garlic rosemary herb seasoning did not do the grass fed beef justice. It tasted like soap. I was too tired to complain (came here after a hike), so I dipped the burger in the fry sauce. My hubby was disappointed with his burger also. My cutie pie's nuggets were overcooked, hard and dry. He took one bite and he was done. I really can't stand when a restaurant serve frozen KIDS MEAL. He enjoyed his fruit cup. I should've gotten the flat bread and shared it with my son instead. I have to admit that the beer was good and so was the root beer on tap. We were at a tattoo shop all day so we got the scoop on a bunch of places to visit. This wasn't high on the local's list they said it was pricey and the overall consensus was to go somewhere else but I wanted to see for myself. So for Beer selection 5 stars without a doubt! A pretty neat looking place 5 stars again. There were no tables available when we arrived I had a feeling its probably always busy like that. It was super loud I don't know how you could take your laptop here and get anything done I wouldn't suggest it in the evening. We got totally lucky and the bar upstairs was empty. We took a seat and got harassed a bit about if we were our daughters parents or not. She's 7 no we aren't sneaking her any beer. It was cold upstairs its all open but they have plenty of heat lamps that made it very comfortable to where you wont even need to wear a jacket . No spirits and no table service but with that aside the bartenders were awesome, very pleasant, and knowledgeable on the beers and vino's. The bartenders looked out for us and eventually we got to sit at a table yay! They told us that the business was new so I'm guessing there was an ownership change recently? I wouldn't take my kid here for dinner again although I might order their chicken nuggets w fruit cup for my self next time. The Diva hated the sauces! The BBQ was too peppery and the other one was too horseradishy and I didn't blame her. She doesn't like ketchup either so 3 for 3 strike outs. The nuggets though were "the best ever" for nuggets that is they make them fresh from scratch all organic in house stuff pretty darn delicous!! I ordered the elk patty unfortunately I should have read the Yelp reviews before I ordered. Shame on me I know!!! I took like 4 bites and ended up eating the kid and hubs leftovers which was a good sandwich. The fries both paprika and sweet potato were really good I could not stop eating those!! We left before the jazz started I was kinda sad but next time I will be kid-less so I can focus on the beer and enjoy it more. A place as busy as this should really have some kind of organized table service I think it would make it more inviting and less chaotic. It would make sense to me I mean people have to bring the food and clean it up so why not going out to your customer and making them feel welcome while taking an extra 3 mins to take an order. Or even a greeter near the door passing out menus would be helpful to people who've never been and don't quite know how things work. Went here for breakfast on Valentine's Day. Ordered two basic breakfasts of eggs, bacon, pancakes and english muffin. The bacon and the english muffin were both delicious. Our eggs were both cooked wrong, and my husband found 2 hairs on his eggs. When the plate went back to the kitchen we could here the cook saying the hairs did not belong to him. They remade the plate, and made a brief apology...that's it. We paid $9 for each breakfast and were not happy at all, we would not go back. read more

My family and I went here today for lunch. I first got a good feeling from the atmosphere...very cool structure, music, art, etc. etc. The menu was decently sized, and I noticed they also had a very wide variety of alcoholic beverages to choose from. I ordered the vegetable and tofu sandwich, which wasn't served to me until 45 minutes after sitting down. It was the 4th of July, so I have to be understanding. Once my sandwich was placed in front of me, I dug right in. Yuck. No sprouts, cucumbers, or tomatoes. It was a sandwich of tofu, avocado, red onion, and far too much of that strong seedy mustard. I asked for the vegetables since it was a vegetable sandwich and all, but they said they were out of sprouts. However, they kindly gave me a plate of cucumber and tomato. But still....mustard. That is all I can say. I scraped a majority of it off, but to no prevail. In conclusion, I will not order this sandwich again in fear of mustard oozing out of my ears. I would go to this place again to try something different. My family reported that their meals were very good, so I just scored unlucky. I did like the sweet potato fries though. read more

My family and I were visiting Presoctt and we needed somewhere to stop for lunch. After touring the main drag for a couple minutes, I noticed the signs for the Raven Cafe around the town, so we stopped there. I was first impressed with the atmosphere. I love artsy, chic places that seem to attract pretentious, health nuts, and this was just the place. All the sign were hand written chalk (the dessert board was actually taken down and updated while we were siting at out table) and they had the lists of the places where they got their "organic and local ingredients," and the first employee I spotted was a man with a gelled pompadour hairstyle and a handle bar moustache. I knew it was the right ambiance. You order fist at the bar, and the cashier (a petite woman with red hair tips and heavy eyeliner) hands you a number, which is two pieces of paper laminated together, each with an odd picture on it and a number; very cute. All the tables are lovely, unique wood pieces with chairs to match. When you're sitting there, that's when you notice the strange shadow boxes along the wall, different sizes and filled with all manner of odds and ends, from a lace glove cut-out to a pocketwatch and dried leaves. My mother's white mint mocha (the daily special) and my father's coffee were served to them almost before they sat down, The waiters (the man with the moustache. We mentioned I'd be Yelping and blogging about this place, and he said his name was Jake and gave me a broad smile) brought the food promptly, with a nice amount of fanfare for each dish, and told us to enjoy. My brother got the brunch burger, which was flavourful but not fatty, topped with cheese and an egg, which he loves. I got the Chipotle Chicken Wrap, which came in a whole wheat tortilla, and was spicy without being overpowering. It came stuffed with apples, cranberries and almonds to accent the chicken and spices, and it was a unexpected but great combination. My father had the traditional breakfast, which is 2 eggs, toast (a huge selection of breads to choose from), potatoes and a side (he got the filleted avocado, but could have had bacon). My mother got the eggs florentine, which is a brunch special, and she reported that the eggs were well poached, not runny (happens when the water's too hot) or overcooked, and the hollandaise sauce was fantastic.
