The Raven is a former movie theater turned performing arts center in downtown Healdsburg featuring live music and plays. They seems to be all volunteer run which leads to lack of marketing, but I luckily walked by and saw an ad for the Traveling Wilbury's revue (cover band) on a Friday night in July. After have dinner at Guiso's next door (which uses their bathroom), we selected our general admission seats at 7pm for an 8pm show. Tickets were $28 and every seat is excellent in this small theater, we were in row 6 as rows 1-5 paid $55-95. The sound was amazing and seats were comfortable with cushions, armrests and cup holders. They were selling wine for $10/glass and snacks such as M&Ms and peanuts (no popcorn). Most attendees were local and were dancing up front toward the end of the night. An excellent venue one block from the plaza and we will surely go again.

Great acoustics third row from rear of theater. Awesome show in a great venue. ... and yes, adult beverages are available for purchase (to support the theater, of course!)

Cute little small town theater. Crappy seats but good lighting and nice stage for preforming. They have a snack bar with beer and wine and you know I love a good snack bar.

Being really embedded into the Fine Arts and performing arts at that you get into the archaic and historic theaters such as the Raven. Located in the historic part of Healdsberg it is a great small venue to catch some performances. I grew up in the Sonoma County area and this was not a theater I had been to as of yet. I came the night of Tim Flannery and the Lunatic Fringe as they performed for a benefit for the Kiwanis club and raised proceeds for their Love Harder Project as well. A great night well spent with some of Sonoma Counties finest denizens. The historic teacher seats a number of patrons and that night hosted 200+ to the sounds of an incredible band. Hope to come back oneday

    Ready for the show!

When entering the center, there are many attendants who are very helpful and guide you to where you need to go for your seats. The concessions are very reasonably priced and you can even purchase a reusable cup that you can bring to other events. The whole center is very well kept and clean. There were two entrances, both with short lines and a security & bag check. Once inside, we got a glass of the Sonoma County red blend and HenHouse hazy ipa from one of two concessions stands in the lobby, both beverages in theater cups that come with lids and are reusable for just $3 extra. Staff was friendly and helpful at the event, whether serving us drinks or helping us find our seats. The venue was plain looking both inside and outside. The seats in the auditorium (Ruth Finley Person Theater) were basic but not uncomfortable. And the view, even from the last row in the back on the lower level, was decent. Sound from the stage was fine, clear enough that I could hear every single word the comedian used to keep the crowd rolling with laughter, including myself of course. Good times!

Here, they don't seem very open to building relationships and seeking out and creating jazz experiences. They are consistently overpriced and I often leave disappointed. Marcus talks to much and the organization tries to manage its members, rather than focusing on creating events that blow the listeners socks off. It's very sad.

It's all history now, but the afternoon's experience changed many of us who attended: We want to do it again and many of us want to go to New Orleans to see first hand what we sampled! (It would have been a hard sell to get me on a plane to New Orleans before I heard the Dr. Michael White Quartet.) There are many venues during the Healdsburg Jazz Festival - this one was New Orleans Jazz hosted at the Dry Creek Winery on Lambert (Laaaaaambert!) Road. Three groups performed: Russian River Ramblers are a local group of musicians which play traditional music (All of Me). MJ's Brass Boppers Brass Band played an eclectic repertoire that included brassy riffs that caused individuals to get up from those comfortable lawn chairs and dance! The last performance was Dr. Michael White Quartet. Dr. White prefaced each tune with a bit of interesting history on the piece of music and jazz history in New Orleans. One of his original pieces was "Sunday Morning" which Dr. White composed after the Katrina flood that devastated New Orleans. He explained that jazz bands in former times would parade through neighborhoods playing on Sunday morning to lead people to church. I'd never heard that before, but the image of a parade of people following a jazz band to church on a sunny Sunday morning is a good one! The highlight of the performance was when Dr. White was off on his clarinet solo when accross the street, someone's car alarm goes off. I instantly had homicidal thoughts about the car's owner to ruin Dr. White's magnificent solo... when I noticed a nearly imperceptible change in tempo and Dr. White incorporated the car horn into his riff!! Pitch and tempo of the car horn was as if that car horn was designed to accompany the music. That was a dandy demonstration of improvisation that I will not likely forget for a very long time! I hate large crowds. This crowd was small and festive. People I enjoyed being with. I do not know if all the events at Healdsburg Jazz Festival are as good as this one, but if they are half as good, this is an experience worthy of anyone's time.

Being a member at another place in the area, Healdsburg was a familiar place to me. I came across the article at the perfect time as my husband and I were making a day trip to pick up my shipment. We live in Sacramento to Healdsburg is only a two hour drive away. I was beyond happy to see that we're wasn't a wait when we arrived. They are tons of cute velvet couches in all different colors and the busking itself is very tall with huge ceiling and really amazing decorations. We received excellent service and I was blown away at how amazing their Pinot Noir selection was. Only $35 for 5 pours! I felt so relaxed and not at all rushed. Some live music was getting ready to start when we left and I was sad we couldn't stay for that but now I know for next time. This was such a beautiful wine and music lounge and i'm very excited to visit again.
