Okay, darling!! Definitely a historic little theater. Seeing Steel Magnolias was a must for an out of towner looking for something to do for the weekend while staying at the little saint cottages. The play was cute and quaint, the audience sat on the stage as if we were right with the cast. I think there must have been maybe 50-60 attendees for a Friday night showing. read more

Raven Performing Arts Theater is a quaint, small-town theater. I go several times a year year to watch the Healdsburg Chorus, and I just went to see the Raven Shorts, which was so much fun. The theater isn't fancy by any stretch of the imagination, but it's just what it should be in the center of a small wine county town. The seats are comfortable, they have a snack bar, the temperature is comfortable, and the location can't be beat. Everyone is friendly and enthusiastic, the shows are always good, and it's wonderful to enjoy the local talent and then walk to any number of the delicious restaurants on or off of Healdsburg Square...my recommendation is Vallette, just a few steps away! read more

I love the variety of events, films & plays the Raven put on. Tonight was no exception. We saw the new PBS documentary "We Want the Funk". My friend and I enjoyed a lovely Cabernet from the snack bar before seeing the film. After watching the movie, there were two DJ's spinning funk music on vinyl to dance to. Fun-ky event! read more

The Raven is a former movie theater turned performing arts center in downtown Healdsburg featuring live music and plays. They seems to be all volunteer run which leads to lack of marketing, but I luckily walked by and saw an ad for the Traveling Wilbury's revue (cover band) on a Friday night in July. After have dinner at Guiso's next door (which uses their bathroom), we selected our general admission seats at 7pm for an 8pm show. Tickets were $28 and every seat is excellent in this small theater, we were in row 6 as rows 1-5 paid $55-95. The sound was amazing and seats were comfortable with cushions, armrests and cup holders. They were selling wine for $10/glass and snacks such as M&Ms and peanuts (no popcorn). Most attendees were local and were dancing up front toward the end of the night. An excellent venue one block from the plaza and we will surely go again. read more

I have seen many music performances at the Raven and I very much enjoy going there. My only complaint is the fact that the water fountain near the restrooms has been removed. I took note of this last night at a performance. I am not a fan of bottled water and unless you want to cup your hand and drink from the bathroom sink there's no other way to be hydrated, I think it was a very bad move to remove the water fountain for whatever reason. read more

Charming little theater in the heart of downtown Healdsburg (one block from The Plaza). Went tonight for the first time to see a friend's daughter perform in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Friendly staff checked vaccine cards, IDs, and tickets at the door. The doors opened at 7:20pm for the 7:30pm show...this didn't allow much time for the slow, one-man concessions stand. And the concession options were limited: beer, wine, water, soda, and a few sweet and salty options. It was fine. Better than no concessions. Masks were required. Seating was unassigned. Seats were comfortable and acoustics seemed decent. We're fortunate to have this venue in town. We'll definitely go back for future shows! read more

Being really embedded into the Fine Arts and performing arts at that you get into the archaic and historic theaters such as the Raven. Located in the historic part of Healdsberg it is a great small venue to catch some performances. I grew up in the Sonoma County area and this was not a theater I had been to as of yet. I came the night of Tim Flannery and the Lunatic Fringe as they performed for a benefit for the Kiwanis club and raised proceeds for their Love Harder Project as well. A great night well spent with some of Sonoma Counties finest denizens. The historic teacher seats a number of patrons and that night hosted 200+ to the sounds of an incredible band. We saw Hello Dolly last night. It was a great performance even better than I expected. We do have some excellent local talent! The theatre was a movie theatre in a past life. There is plenty of seating and the acoustics were fine. Seating is not assigned so come a little early. They do offer beer, wine and soft drinks as well as some snacks that you can take to your seat which is nice. This is located in downtown Healdsburg so you know there is plenty to do in the area and many wonderful places to eat nearby as well as shopping. It would make a great weekend or overnight stay for non locals to enjoy the theatre performance in the evening and enjoying the area during the day. read more

Neil Simon's The Odd Couple is having a short run at The Raven. Sadly, only ten (now nine) performances through February 10. Food and wine aside, there's probably no better way to spend an evening in Healdsburg. After work the other day, I stopped by to catch about five minutes of a rehearsal. Only Felix and Oscar were on stage. I was struck by how wonderful the set was--local theater or not--and how much Stephen Cannon (cast as Felix) reminded me of Tony Curtis on the TV version, in stature, demeanor, and voice In fact, after seeing the opening last night, my opinion (for what it's worth) is that the whole show was amazingly well-cast. Directing, too was phenomenal. In all, it was a brilliant performance, and a truly wonderful time. This was my first time at the Raven Performing Arts Theater. To use a cliche, it won't be my last. By the way, this is no longer the cinema, as the heading above would lead you to believe; that, now, is at a different location. The physical plant is old, and could use some sprucing up. That, though, does not take away from the experience at all. It makes it a little more homey, albeit perhaps Oscar's home. But it would be really nice if some angel could come along, wave a magic wand, and say "Done!" I think I'll at least sign up do do some volunteer work. It's worth it for such a quality, local experience. And may you be sold out every night! read more

I grew up a fan of the performing arts. I went to my high school plays, local theater performances in my home time, and performances at some of the larger theaters within several hours of my home. Yesterday, a friend and I went to a performance of Chicago at The Raven and it brought back so many found memories for me. The old-time theater offered the quaint charm of all those theaters of yesteryear. While the seating was a bit tight, the layout of the theater was perfect as I really don't think there was a bad seat in the house. What we found interesting was the way the ticket sale were conducted. Our tickets were good for any performance this past weekend and there was no assigned seating?!?! As we watched the crowd enter the theater it was pretty clear that the performance we attended was going to be sold out. I think (maybe) that even some theater goers were turned away because there were no seats left. The performance, except for some minor issues with the microphones, was wonderful. The voices were superb and the acting wonderful. I couldn't have picked a better performance in which to get my theater legs back. I must say, I will be back to the Raven Performing Arts Theater for future performances. read more

Good selection of films and I think the prices are fine. They're no more expensive than any other theater. What bugs me are the hours the movies are shown. Why is the latest showing during the week 6:00? Aren't people eating dinner at this time? Maybe we'd like to see a movie AFTER dinner. We're not all invalids in this town ya know. read more

My friend and attended the Raven's performance of Evita last Sat. The director on stage said they were performing this with rock music, and we could move to the back of the theater. We moved to the back; to the street would not have been far enough. It was so loud I had a splitting head ache and my ears hurt all night. During intermission there were lots of people talking about the horrid noise. The theater is way too small for such loud music and song. But, the actors were all very talented and the live music was good, just way to loud. read more
