I had the pleasure of getting a full balayage by Megara and a cut/style by Kevin. Both of them were very kind, professional, and made me feel super comfortable and safe in these crazy covid times. I love that I was greeted by a super sweet receptionist with a temperature check, hand sanitizer and a welcoming smile. Megara is obviously a super talented colorist but also has a very calming and kind energy. I enjoyed chatting with her for several hours. Kevin gave me a beautiful long shag and really listened to my hair goals/concerns and provided me with some valuable tips, tricks, and new products that I'm so excited to incorporate into my new hair routine. I love this salon! I've gotten a haircut from Amy Taylor twice now and the last time she also did a partial balayage. She does amazing work! She's so sweet and obviously cares about making her clients look their best. She's so willing to give tips and answer questions about how to style my hair on my own. Within five minutes of getting a raise in my allowance, I went looking for Mikel to get a good cut with color. I met Mikel at Aziz salon when I impulsively decided to have my hair curled and braided as a birthday present. He's a thorough professional. He can do just about anything. If it can be done, he is the one to ask. I woke up yesterday morning feeling like it was Christmas. It was my first ever Balayage color and cut, and to have Mikel as the stylist that did this...I've always wanted to have a good stylist give me a little make-over. I never feel pressured to carry a conversation with Mikel. I can talk to him about anything, or just chill out and look at the happy ambiance of Raven Row Salon. I followed the one and only Toni here from Benjamin Beau. After moving to Austin I went to Toni whom a friend had highly recommended and I will never go to anyone else. For years I have been trying for a certain shade of hair color and stylists have always told me that I couldn't obtain the color by bottle but that they would do their best. My first appointment with Toni I described to her what I wanted and showed her a few examples and a couple hours later my hair was the perfect color I had been wanting for forever. Update: The owner was (understandably) upset from the original post, so I agreed to come in for a third visit to get my original ask done (bright pieces around the front), which she thought would be possible. But after she looked at the hair, she acknowledged there is so much that's been lightened and then toned over, it would be a mistake to lighten more, so I should wait until the toner starts fading off, and then she thinks I will have more of the look I came in for. She did another toner application to try to improve the very flat overall color, and it definitely isn't as mousy now. The really upsetting part is that right now, it looks like the beautiful, dimensional balayage I've been building for years has been destroyed... will the toner drop off and uncover my great hair again? I don't know, but I guess that's the best case scenario. Overall, I came in 3 times (with 2 tries the first visit, so 4 color attempts), and my hair now looks the same top to bottom, which was what I liked a looooong time ago, but I was clear I dislike now. No bright pieces around the front. 10x the bleach needed was applied to virgin hair. It looks like old-fashioned highlights on medium brown hair, not my beachy balayage with a dark base and little bright pieces that I was so clear I loved. And I've *still* never been offered a refund, which is shocking. Original Post: Spend $402 and have worse hair than I did before coming in (3 color efforts, 2 visits). I gave the colorist clear written guidance to do subtle balayage, letting my virgin hair shine, and she did a full head of bleached highlights down to my scalp, which I pointed out as it dried. She tried to correct it w a root shadow that day, but it was still a stripy, bleached mess. Scheduled a corrective visit and she did a good job of laying in color that looks natural and isn't embarrassing, but it's 1) bleached to hell so it'll fade in 8 weeks (which she acknowledged), 2) mousier/uglier than before and 3) the front has less dimension / bright pieces than when I went in. The haircut is fine in front, but no shape in the back. Leaving Deep Roots was a huge mistake - I'll be back there asap for corrective color, so this is a very expensive mistake. read more

If I could give this salon negative stars I would. I went to the owner of this salon, Raven, and specifically showed her what color blonde I wanted and a balayage. We agreed on a partial balayage, and she assured me she knew how to do exactly what I wanted. She said that the toner she put in would fade within one to two washes and the brightness of the blonde would show. When I got home it looked NOTHING like how I wanted. It looks like my hair has been dyed brown with some lifeless, full streaks of gray/purple. I was expecting to be obviously be blonde by the end of my appointment, as I've had done by other stylists many times before. I decided to wash my hair, as she had said it would fade the toner. This did not work. I proceeded to e mail her expressing my concerns about my hair, and asking if she would be able to fix it. Instead of being a professional and hearing my needs as the customer, she proceeded to send me a very rude e mail, completely bashing me. She was extremely unprofessional and made me feel stupid for reaching out to fix what I paid a lot of money to have. On top of it all, I was charged for a full balayage and not a partial, and her response to this was that she took it upon herself to give me a full balayage without even letting me know, despite the fact that we agreed on a partial. After a stern reply to this, she agreed to refund me the toner and the money I wanted back for the partial. She then said that if I wasn't happy in a week, she would fix it for me and to contact the salon to set something up. A week later I was still not happy, so I contacted the salon and asked to get in with someone who could fix my hair. She responded and went back on her word of willing to fix it, making more excuses about how nobody ever complains about her work with toner and that my hair doesn't lift easily (which is BS it does) and that she doesn't want to work on my damaged hair. How is hair that hasn't been touched with dye or bleach in 6 months damaged? I also contacted my hair stylist in LA and explained what happened, and she said Raven was full of it and she has never had an issue with getting my hair blonde. I have never experienced such unprofessional behavior from the owner of a business. She appears to love arguing her side and trying to prove me wrong more than listening to what I, the customer, needs and wants. I highly suggest going somewhere else to get your hair done. read more

She is so intuitive and knows how to describe what I want ... even when I don't! She is amazing at asking questions and really makes sure that she understands what you're going for. She checks in along the way, which, personally, is huge for me, because other stylists tend to just run with what you've told them, and then you end up with something completely different from what you wanted. I got my hair done by Rae and she was amazing. The whole staff was awesome, from offering tea and coffee when I got there, to helping me with my math for the tip! I have been growing out my pixie cut for the better part of the year and was dangerously in mullet territory and Rae helped me out of that terrible place! We talked about how short it would have to be to look decent and I knew before getting there that it would be a bob. I have a full face, big cheeks, and I tend to not look great with bobs. First of all, Toni was over 30 minutes late to my appointment. She came to get me from the front waiting area and told me she just got back from her lunch. Why couldn't the front desk just call me and let me know that her lunch was running late? She wasn't doing anything besides staring at her phone the entire time I waited.... In the middle of my hair cut she admitted that hair cutting wasn't her forte and she "had a lot to learn." Seriously the worst thing anyone can say to you in the middle of getting your bob cut by someone new. It proved that she's not good at all at hair cuts because I got home and my mom pointed out that one side was clearly longer than the other. She seemed to not listen to a word I said because I asked for a red wine and she brought me a white. I also asked her to not use thinning shears on my hair and guess what she picks up half way through my cut?????? I had to politely remind her that I don't like them and she gave me a serious side eye and raised her eyebrows at me..... Her look and attitude continued to decline and she acted like she was doing me a favor the rest of the time. How rude? It couldn't get any more awkward until she said I had the best Dora the Explorer haircut she had ever seen. Like who says that? She was throwing some shade for no reason or she really has no idea about social cues. Lastly, my blow dry was awful and took only five minutes. It looked like I got stuck in a wind tunnel. So much for having your hair styled by a "professional" or whatever she likes to think of herself. In retrospect I should have avoided the salon because initially my sister saw Toni's IG before and said that she looked like her hair was fried and crispy and was concerned that I would even trust her..... I should have listened to her. The "manager" Nikki was there when I checked out and seemed completely indifferent when she asked me how everything went and I replied, "not the best." She just gave me a stank face and walked off. So much for their "caring" to resolve issues by replying to people's unsatisfied reviews. She is very fake and I can assure that when I complained in person she didn't care and their online replies are a lame attempt to appear professional. read more

Thank you to Rae at Raven Row Salon. I have never been happier after a haircut in my life. I usually don't go to real salons, but I was so intrigued by her experience as an expert in curly hair so I gave it a try, and it was a fantastic decision. If you have curly hair you are probably used to scaring stylists with your hair, getting lectures about how you need to take better care of it, or them realizing halfway through that you have twice as much hair as they thought you did. Rae was completely positive, and I didn't realize how refreshing that would be, after having so many haircuts where people reacted negatively to my hair, someone who was excited for it and actually WANTS to work with curly hair was honestly so so nice. It was hard to articulate what I wanted, but it worked out so well. My curl pattern is actually different than what I thought it was, and this cut actually works with the curl instead of against it. If you have curly hair and are interested in getting a good haircut definitely talk to Rae! I will for sure go back. There is a lot of free parking around there but it's crowded at lunchtime, so either schedule an appointment for a different time, or get there a few minutes early so you can hunt around for a spot. It took me awhile to park and I ended up late to my appointment. They were very kind about it though. Also my dress was wet in a random spot in the back after, so I can see how that would be uncomfortable if you were wearing jeans or a material that doesn't dry easily, just FYI. Don't get me wrong the place is great and so is the staff but definitely will not be going back. The hairstylist really didn't get what I wanted my fault in not taking a picture and showing her?? But the style of the cut was NOTHING to what I wanted. It took me a year to get my hair to a nice length only for it to be messed up going back AGAIN to get it fixed and only way to get it fixed was by cutting my hair up to my jaw-a bob. I found this place on Yelp and fell in love right away! I made an appointment for that same week with Katy and she did an amazing job ! I had my hair ombré but it started to turn orange so I just went with a natural dark color all around. I also got a trim which is something rare for me to do because I always get scared someone is going to mess it up or go dramatically shorter but Katy did great I trust her 100%. Something I also loved about Katy is she not only did a great job but she was so fast !! I have very long thick hair and I'm always a 4 hour client no matter what I get but I was out in a little over 2 hours so my husband was very happy about that. I recently went to Raven Row for a color correction but when I booked the appointment, I asked for a highlight (completely my fault). My cut was amazing but my color just wasnt the right color blonde I was hoping to achieve. I've been to Raven Row before and I absolutely believe they are one of the best salons in Austin. I have never in my life gone back to a salon "to fix" or "re-do" my hair but this was a very special circumstance because I was going for a photo shoot the next day. The owner listened to my needs and personally fixed my hair that day. She was so kind and gracious and I was able to feel fantastic in my pictures.
