They used to be an expensive but good-quality outfit; now they're like ABT--repair clients beware! My InstiHot was dripping nonstop. We suffered a Chinese water torture for 5 days until they could get to us. The plumber said the problem was with the tank and I should also get a new filter. They came back a couple days later with a tank and a filter for $843! Guess what? The InstiHot faucet was still dripping! The plumber said it would stop. It's Ravinia, so I assumed I could trust him. I was wrong. It continued dripping as much as before. So, we suffered more Chinese water torture until they could get back 3 days later to install a new faucet. Oh, so I DIDN'T need a tank and a filter, but you just made me pay for one! That's unethical, incompetent, or both. It gets better. Then they charged me $600+ for the new faucet BUT they took out the new water tank and replaced it with one they said "matched" the manufacturer of the faucet. Wow. They could have just put in any tank--maybe even one that cost them nothing. That's also unethical! So, I called and talked to some woman who said the manager was too busy to talk to me and she'd be responsible. She made some excuses and then tried to smooth things over with a small gift certificate. Really? My husband then called and tried to get a manager on the phone. It's a month later, and we are still waiting. Basically, I ended up paying about $1400 for a new InstiHot system. Just unbelievable, when all I apparently needed was the overpriced $600+ faucet. To improve my chances of getting a good plumber, I sought the Best Pick Reports which said Ravinia Plumbing has a 4.9 review grade. That encouraged me to reach out and secure the work of getting two faucets I had purchased that needed to be installed. Dan, the plumber was professional and competent, and the actual work took 65 minutes along with 10 minutes of paperwork. The total fee was $849 which I thought was ridiculous. Apparently they charge by job and not per hour. No where on the BPR was that mentioned. In my mind, the most I expected to pay was $400-450 for such a small job. Indeed, this was not emergency plumbing as it had been scheduled for weeks. I can't question Dan's competency, but don't think it was close to a good value considering it was a small job. read more

So, generally, water is a beautiful thing, except when you find it bubbling up through your basement drain on a Saturday morning. I was doing laundry and doing things throughout the house and came back down to the basement to find a growing, flowing steady influx of water coming through the drain. Not one to panic (ha!), I called Ravinia plumbing and they said they could have Simon come out that morning. Simon called me on route, and I surmised that the former owner (him, again!) had never had the pipes rodded. Simon was able to diagnose the problem and took the next several hours to unblock the drain. Our problem is solved for now. read more

Javier and Lucas visited and replaced all 3 outlets, outdoor and indoor, and removed a stuck lightbulb. In a text message confirming the plumbing appointment, they cite a $69 service charge and a $47.50 per quarter hour diagnostic fee. The technician was unable to repair my hot water heater and indicated that this would be just a diagnostic visit. The technician was at my home for less than 1 hour and proceeded to charge me $315 for diagnostic visit. After reviewing their text message confirming the appointment and the disclosed cost, I called the company to address my concern over being over charged, citing their text message. The agent was argumentative and indicated that I misread the message as the diagnostic fee only applied to electrical. I asked if they would work with me being a first time customer. Agent offered me a "gift certificate". Terrible customer service. Would not recommend. They offer a "plumbing inspection" for $89 on their website. read more

Living in an older home can involve surprises and having professional support when they come up is crucial. These guys came to the rescue in the middle of the night. This is our first winter in our new home, which is an older house with older plumbing. Before going to bed last weekend I realized that one of the shutoff valves in our basement for the outside spigot had failed and water was coming from it due to the sub-zero temperatures. I gave Ravinia a call and they sent out a technician who arrived in about an hour. I felt a little bad that he had to respond to a call on a Saturday night but he was really friendly and had a great sense of humor. He replaced the faucet quickly and provided instruction on what to do next. And most importantly, I was able to go to bed knowing our basement wouldn't be full of water in the morning. They may charge more than some other companies, but when dealing with something as integral to our home as plumbing I don't want to take chances. We're part of their home care club where for an annual membership fee they waive other fees, such as in the case of an emergency call like the one mentioned. It also provided us a discount when they replaced our water heater and has nearly paid for itself twice already. read more

My large single basin stainless steel sink was not properly secured at installation. Three years later, the sink sank an inch or so and there was a gap between granite and sink. I called my neighbor who highly recommended Ravinia Plumbing. Sherry took the call and scheduled a plumber (Danny) for the next day. While it was frustrating to explain the situation again, Holly, the customer service rep., patiently listened and ultimately asked what I thought would make it right. I was taken off guard and asked to think about it. I was impressed that Ravinia reached out, took the time to listen and offered to make it right. While I wish that was done in the first place, it meant a lot that they care about their reputation and their customers. I decided to ask for a gift certificate so that I can give them another try. We've been battling an issue with our Air Conditioner for 2 summers now, even after getting a new unit installed. After going nowhere with the same guys for all this time, we called Ravinia. Nick came out, and it was immediately obvious he knows his stuff, backwards and forwards. He went through the list of possible issues, and spent a few hours here to weed out the problem. It turned out to be an even more subtle issue than he previously thought (the last guys had taken some shortcuts on the previous install, leading to most of the air bypassing the cooling coils, along with a misconfigured blower) -- but he still nailed it, and fixed it on the spot. These guys are top notch -- I'll be a permanent customer for all my air conditioning, plumbing, and electric needs from here on out. Highly recommended!! read more

We had a horrible experience with this company. We're new to the area (1.5 years here). We called Ravinia this morning as our heat went out and it's 20 degrees out today. They quoted $100 for a visit since it's a weekend. When they got here, they were here for 30 mins and said the whole furnace would need to be replaced. Charged us $340 for the visit and diagnostic. We called ABT and they came out, said the furnace did not need to be replaced yet and fixed the issue by changing a part, all for $185. Will never use Ravinia again. I called the office to complain and she was super rude and told us " this is our pricing and if you don't like it, you should have called someone else". I'm sharing as this is a local plumber and we had no idea of their price gouging and their rudeness as well and others should know. read more

Sloppy work and greedy billing. One hour of labor to replace a small part on the warranty was $316! I had already diagnosed the problem prior, all they had to do was an easy replacement of a part. Roy was a very nice repairman though. After installation of a new furnace, we found lots of tiny sharp sheet metal screws left about the floor outside the furnace room and on our driveway risking flat tires or emergency room from sharp screws into a foot. We were quoted $125 for a replacement UV bulb in our air purifier but I bought one online for $46 and one shipped to me from a local supply house. read more

We have used them for years and they are reliable and efficient. Have had emergency calls were they literally restored heat when temps were about 0 outside. They just did a regular furnace service and spotted a carbon monoxide leak due to faulty installation of a tankless water heater which was not installed by Ravinia. I can't recommend them highly enough. Just schedule them regularly, once per year, to avoid most emergencies. read more

Thanks again for the extraordinary service. I always try to stay ahead of the maintenance, being preventive is usually the formula to having heat and air conditioning on demand. While taking a look at one of our zones furnace I noticed a decaying vent pipe - this happens! Time for my summer air conditioning check - I scheduled a service call and added the replacement of the vent in my request. Started using Ravinia because they had a history with our home. Have had 8 plumbers from Ravinia over to check on a plumbing backup that's been recurring since moving into my home for the past year. Each time, the plumber has a new theory on what's happening that's disproven by the info that the previous plumber gave. So in the end, there's no resolution. Ravinia seems to have no interest in actually finding the issue or fixing it, they're just happy to take your money. Management was also very aggressive and unhelpful. I had a highly unusual problem with a kitchen disposal after pouring some fiber solution powder into the sink and trying to flush it down the sink. It morphed it a massive sticky goop that blocked the sink and completely clogged the disposal unit. I expected to have a very good experience with Ravinia but I did not. We hired them to fix leaks under two bathroom sinks. They have now been here twice, have put in six hours, and still haven't finished the job. These must be the slowest plumbers in the universe. Worst of all, they gave us no time estimate at the beginning of the job so we had no idea how long they'd be with us. A small thing but illustrative. The plumber threw some paper down one of our toilets. When a single flush did nothing to the paper, the plumber simply left the room without calling it to our attention. I walked into the bathroom 10 minutes later, saw there was unflushed paper in the bowl, and tried to flush it. The toilet immediately backed up, despite the fact that it had been working perfectly before the idiot plumber threw something in it. Their customer service is lousy, as well. read more

I had no choice but to give them one star. I tried giving them none but it wouldn't post. This company should be ashamed of their outlandish prices and obnoxious attitude. We had an emergency when my kitchen sink exploded. The amount of money Ravinia charged was gross. On top of that, I've now come to realize all they actually wanted to do was put a bandaid on cancer. Begrudgingly, we paid their outlandish bill and now have another plumber fixing the issue that should have been taken care of with Ravinia. It's gross and a totally underhanded business practice. Ravinia had been our plumbers for years and never once mentioned one thing about the preventative things we could've and should've been doing. It wasn't until the sink backed up again and my husband called another plumber who told us it was the worst pipe he'd ever seen.
