Called and spoke to Kelly about a clogged basement laundry sink after painter has cleaned their painting tools in our Laundry sink. They came recommended by an appliance repairman who had used Ed Dickson Bros Plumbing who had sold their company to Bill's Plumbjng in summer of 2024. I was able to get a next day afternoon service and was quoted $195 for first 45 minutes ($90 visit fee plus 45 Min at $105 which is $35 for each 15 minutes) which very reasonable compared to other quotes I got. Kurt and Luis arrived promptly on time after getting a text that they were on the way -- I called the office and Kelly confirmed where they were coming from which was nice. They efficiently took care of removing our old metal pipe, then rodded the line which had a tricky bend, and then replaced with PVC and even included an access cover upon my request. Kurt was an expert and very courteous as well as Luis! They even took off their shoes since it was a little wet outside which was not expected but appreciated. Bill's Plumbing was the worst plumbing company I have ever dealt with. I had the company come to my house to quote me for a job that consisted of: moving gas, water, drain and exhaust lines for a laundry room makeover. When Shawn S arrived to my house to do the job, he did not want to do the job how we had discussed in person during the quote visit. He want on to deny saying what he had told me in person and saying that it would cost more money and would have quoted it different. This was 100% the opposite of what he told me the first visit, as I have it in writing and recording. He did his 'best' to make me feel uncomfortable, as he said "You are going to tell an 18 year pro how to do his job?". That had no merit, as he was trying to change the scope of the job that was offered and needed for my space. After arguing with me for a good 10-15 minutes in my home, he agreed to do the job as originally quoted and offered. He made a point to say, "Well, now we have our work cut out for ourselves". Another attempt to make me feel bad and/or uncomfortable in my own home. Shawn completed the job with his partner in around 5 hours, just as he had said he would when we had met for the proposal. I paid my balance for the project and he left. Unfortunately, I didn't see that he had made a mistake in one of the lines until my contractor came back in the following day. Shawn had not extended the gas line out of the studded bay so that it could be dry walled and sealed properly. It was almost parallel with the studs, which you can see in the photos I've attached. After 2 days of contacting the company, I finally got a hold of somebody to request somebody to come and fix this issue. I was put in contact with Shawn and he proceeded to say, "You are seriously complaining over an inch of pipe?". he then told me it would be a $400 charge as it was Saturday and he didn't consider this an emergency. I explained to him how I have to pay a contractor for time lost while we wait to have this fixed. Shawn did not care, nor was he willing to do anything for me but argue and 'attempt' to make me feel bad for requesting this be fixed properly. After getting off the phone with Shawn, I called the company back and they ensured me that an area manager would call me back that day and we'd get the gas line fixed that day. That did not happen. Nobody called me back and I was unable to get a hold of anybody until the following Monday to schedule someone for Tuesday. On Tuesday, Shawn came back out and 'fixed' the gas line. Once done, he said, "Come take a look, see if it's NOW to your liking." Another attempt to make me feel bad or uncomfortable in my home. I did notice that he had now faced the on/off lever toward the wall, which was going to make it near impossible to use. I'm not sure if he did this on purpose or mistake. Either way, after all the comments and arguing from him, I told him that it would do. I had to pay somebody else to come in to fix that issue and am now out that money and the money I lost from paying a contractor who couldn't properly finish his job due to the poor work by Shawn. Id never suggest this company, as there was zero professionalism, from reception to laborer. I can say that I've never had to write a negative review until now too. I've been living in my home for 27 years. I've had a lot of experience with the plumbing issues in this house. I called to have my main line rodded in March because I was having issues with the laundry and the downstairs toilet backing up. They rodded from the inside and the outside clean-out accesses. Now, 2 months later my toilet was backing up again. I was referred to another plumber by my contractor and he discovered that all of the roots were not removed. He also noted that my catch basin was loaded with roots and soil and no one has ever checked that before. $500 later, I finally have clear lines. I went with this company because I saw the good reviews on yelp and I regret the decision and here is why .... If there was a Zero star option, that is the rating I would give this business. We called this company to address the issue of an overflowing toilet in the basement. We explained the entire issue that has occurred a few years back about the overgrown tree root in the sewer line and the plumber said, "We can take care of that". The rodding total cost was $255, service call $30 (which was never mentioned) therefore the flat rate price of the sewer rodding itself is $225.00. After finishing the job, the plumber said to me, "okay, so everything is done and the water will run smoothly now, however, you need to get the full clean out work because we can't do the full run of the sewer since there is a blockage in the pipe. Also, the pipe in the shower and the toilet don't connect to each other." Later, to prove that the problem is fixed the plumber turned on the water ONLY in the shower but neglected to check the two bathrooms upstairs as well as the laundry room. My sister asked, "how long will the rodding work that was done hold me up until I can get the full clean out? I hope not just for a couple of days." Plumber: "Noooo, it will last longer than a couple of days but I can't guarantee any longer than that. There is NO WARRANTY for this rodding." (After the fact that the job is complete). . .Fast Forward . . . Friday night, we did the laundry and the same issue occurred. The toilet over-flowed again.. I paid $255.00 for a plumber to come out and "TRIED" rodding. I called to politely request assistance because not only could I not wash my clothes but now I couldn't even go to the bathroom upstairs. My boyfriend called to tell them the situation but the lady that picked up the phone said, " sorry, we can't do anything because there is no warranty on the rodding, it stated on the invoice. Obviously, there is more to this and I would love to write a whole essay but I need to figure out how I can fix this problem because currently, I do not have clean clothes and usable bathrooms. BTW, Tim called and "apologized that I was mad" about this situation and after I was complaining to him about this craziness, he HUNG UP on me. Bill's Plumbing & Sewer was one of 5 bids we had to fix our basement flooding issues. They offered 2 solutions: 1) Traditional Overhead Sewer, that raises the sewer lines (that are normally under a basement floor) to the basement ceiling and then exits the front of the house and is connected back to the city sewer down a really steep grade by excavating your yard. 2) They also offered a double check valve system by digging a pit in the front yard. Their representative was friendly, on time, and seemed to really know what he was talking about. Their pricing is competitive - $8500 for the overhead sewer option and $7500 for the check valve system - also offering $1000 off coupon online. We went with another Company as my husband didn't want to have our yard excavated. All in all, Bill's Plumbing was a firm number2 out of the 5 bids. This was the BEST plumbing experience I've ever had. First off, today is New Year's Eve. Every plumber we called was taking the day off. Our problem was a minor one, a backed up kitchen sink. But when I called Bill himself came. Earlier than estimated, I might add. He was fast, clean and tolerated 100 questions from a 5 year old who wanted to "help." I've used Bill's several times over the years. Most recently, they installed an new kitchen faucet and fixed a leaking shower for me. They arrive when they say they'll be here and they always solve my problem, even if it takes a couple of trips (to get parts they don't have with them). I can't say if their rates are reasonable or not, but they don't seem too extravagant to me. I installed a new water heater from bill's plumbing in Oct 2021 since my tenant used this company many times and I go ahead to call them for this replacement. In Jan 2022 the water heater stopped working for some reason and tenant go ahead to call bill's plumbing and the person(probably John) who answered the phone said it will be free of charge since it was installed recently. However, after the service i received an invoice of $150 by email and i called the office immediately to ask. The lady answered the phone said the part is still under the warranty but they provide the service so i have to pay for the labor. I talked to my friends and neighbors who also have rental properties and they told me it always come with at least one year labor warranty for the new water heater. I called the bill's plumbing again to ask if they provide labor warranty and the lady keep saying the part is broken and they didn't do anything wrong. It makes me feel she doesn't understand what does mean warranty. She ended to drop the bill from $150 to $70, however, i think it's still not right. For such a expensive machine, it can't be no warranty on the labor. If so, You should put 6 years warranty for PRODUCT ONLY on the paper(they only wrote '6 years warranty' on it ) which will not confuse customers. Anyway, bill's plumbing, you are losing customer by doing this as people always talks. Hopefully the owner can see my review and make improvement. We first used Bill's back in July or August for a problem with a lift station (causing some serious basement flooding) and installation of a sink/faucet in our remodeled kitchen. Additionally, they re-routed a vent in the kitchen that was exposed from the removal of the soffit (sp? who cares - I'll hopefully never have to spell that again after this review!). They came out to look at what needed to be done on almost no notice (3pm on the phone - 6pm at the house) and gave me a very reasonable quote. The next day they were here when promised and finished the jobs, as promised. Once the kitchen was done they were here in a flash to install the sink. Excellent. Until -- the basement flooded again -- five months after installation of the brand new pump. Sigh. But - I assume that was a manufacturer defect and with one phone call they were here to fix the problem, in a flash (and in the rain). With no charge. Quite pleased with Bill's - but they did put my faucet on backwards (not as obvious as it sounds) -- so I can't give them the full five stars...but I'll certainly call these guys again, assuming I'll again need a plumber. read more

Tim, James and Crew: I wanted to write and say Thank You for a job well-done with our Overhead Sewer System in Des Plaines. The installation was extremely quick for such a large job. I would definitely recommend your team to friends and family. What really made your team better than the rest was your customer service. With our recent storm in April, we somehow got ground water (not sewer water) in our basement. I called the day of the storm requesting service and a call back. Tim called back within minutes and stressed that they do GUARANTEE their work and stand by it 100%. He was very apologetic and then stated that they will find the problem and solve it. On a Saturday, James came out with an additional crew member (I do not know his name). They found out that there was an old catch basin under our deck in the backyard that no one ever knew about and had never been sealed off 100%. Been using these guys for a while (2-3 yrs, 5-6 calls I think) as recommended by a friend a couple of years back and they did great for a while. For some reason customer service has gone down the drain (no pun intended). The last straw was when I had asked for service to have the pilot light checked on a water heater they replaced a couple of months back. There was water in the basement last week that put out the pilot light. Since then it would light up, ignite the burner but as soon as the burner turned off after a couple of minutes, the pilot light would turn off as well. I was told by the service tech that it was due to the moisture in the filters that surround the burner chamber - which is understandable because lack of air from water clogged filters won't help with proper combustion. This was 3-4 days ago. He had left the cover a bit open to allow the filters to dry and help with combustion since then. The pilot has also been re-lit more than five times since then as well to help heat the filters to help dry. There was also another job that was done yesterday to have the same water heater elevated about 3-4 inches from the ground to help keep the pilot light lit after slight flooding and that part was done fine but the main BS that I have a real beef with is that I called to check on the status more than three time since yesterday (yesterday noon after the job was suppsedly completed according to the dispathcher, yesterday evening and this morning) for the pilot light issue and not once did anyone contact me back for any info. Each time that I called I was told that the tech would be contacted. I was just there this evening and the issue still persists. I have no idea if I'm supposed to wait a month for the filters to dry or there was a part on order or whatever. They've always been blunt (dispatchers and service techs) which is tolerable as long as the job gets done right (I even considered having a flood system installed by them) but that along with this latest customer service failure - I am done. read more

AT first I was a little skeptical to hire this new company because my regular plumber retired and sold the company to Bill's Plumbing. They sent Mr. Kurt, he is as good as if he is not better than my old retired plumber. Kurt is very courteous , he has good knowledge of all his equipment. He use a very small but very powerful machine. He rodded the main sewage line systematically, carefully, and effectively. He rodded out at least 5 pounds of tree root. My clean out is just 6 inches inside the foundation wall. He protected my floor with towels. He made my clean up job easy. I will put in foaming root killer 4 weeks after the rodding and every spring and fall. Even though Kurt told me that there is a 90 days guarantee, I am sure I don't need to go through with this ordeal again at least for two years. I gave 5 stars just for Kurt's job well done. If possible I can only give 4 stars for the charges. I am still not agree with service call charges. I can understand that if I call your company for an estimate and I decide not to hire your company , then you can charge me 40 dollars. But , now I call up your company and hire you to do my maintenance rodding of mainline from a clean out. I don't see why you add 40 dollars on top of the hourly rate of 225 dollars per hour. It is not the total cost but it is the principle of doing business. I have no problem of paying your company 265 dollar per hour of work. This is a hard and dangerous work ! read more

So far, so good. I had them come to give me an estimate for a pretty big job I need done to my home. Not only was the estimate professional looking but they described, in detail, every part of the job! I'll definitely be using them for the work. An update to this post will follow when the work is complete. UPDATE! The work was done way back in August 2010 and I never updated until now (Jan 2011). I am very pleased with this Plumbing Service. Used them about a month ago for toilet issues and Roger came out and fixed everything quickly and efficiently. Today had sewer rodded by Jim and Mike and again problem fixed quickly and efficiently. I even reached someone there on Sunday evening who felt my issue was not an emergency and told me I would save more money if I could wait until the next morning. Had them come out to check 2 down spouts that were tied into the sewer system that were suspected to be clogged. One was capped and one was backed up. They quoted me $175 for the first hour and a lower hourly rate for any time over that, don't recall what it was. The tech called me while he was at the house. The first capped drain wasn't clogged he ran water through it 5 min no back up. Ok great news. The other one was backing up so he was going to rod it. I was hoping to hear from him after he left since nobody was home if it was successful or not. No call. I get home and the drain was still clogged. I had to call and talk to a third party after hours (4:45pm) to relay a message to them that I had called. The next day I see a charge for $290 on my credit card. I called them back, they said they were there 1 hour and fixing the drain was unsuccessful. Ok so 1 hour I thought = $175. That was not the case. They charged me $225 for the hour and they added a $65 service fee. Service fee was never mentioned in the quote. They agreed to refund the $65 service fee and continued to tell me that they don't guarantee these types of drains. Which is all fine except for still charging me $50 more than the quote. This was not sitting well with me at all. The very next day I took on the drain. I took the 90 degree elbow off of the top of the drain, which just slid off, so I could get a good look at what was going on. The pipe was packed with dirt and rocks. I stuck my arm in there and removed all the dirt and rocks until the bottom of the pipe which was aprox 2 feet down. Took me 1 hour MAX. No back up. Now I wouldn't have had a problem paying the agreed upon price of $175 if there was literally nothing anyone could do. But to say that a pro could not fix this, nor could offer any other ideas as to what I could do to fix this drain other than, "We were unsuccessful" when I could do it in 1 hour is honestly embarrassing. Needless to say, I won't be calling them ever again. read more

Honestly this is the worst place to conduct your business with! I didn't even receive service from these guys and they kept sending me a bill each month for no reason. UNBELIEVABLE! Finally when I called in to ask why they kept sending me a bill they said that they 'mistakenly' sent it to me when they should have sent it to someone else who received their service. I've used Bill's for several different services in the last nine months. They took care of an outdoor faucet that leaked into the house and told me how to avoid it happening again. Another time they very carefully removed the toilet to empty the tank in order to get to a part stuck inside. Saved us from buying a new toilet. Other work was done on faucets and adjustments on toilets. Someone else might have sold us a new part but they were able to take care of things in just a couple of minutes. Recommended. read more

The service tech was very nice. We were quoted a price from a woman in the office. The price after the work was done was over $200 more and there was never any mention of a separate service fee when I initially called. After a couple calls back and forth between myself and the woman who originally quoted the price-she denied ever quoting me any price- we settled on the quoted price. Now, the sump pump system is flashing system failure after paying all that money for a brand new sump pump. Needless to say, I am not happy with the service or the outcome of my system not working correctly now. When you call and get quoted a price, ask about any other hidden fees, get the name of who is providing the quote, as well as the date/time you called. It will help your case when you get charged more in the end. Bill's should make this right and at least leave me with a properly functioning system. The resolution to this issue was that Bill's told me to call the company who installed the backup system initially....in other words, they aren't going to help me.
