He was patient to explain all of my options and to help guide me to the best deal that worked for my budget. He wasn't pushy, just helpful. They organized to tow my car for free as it wasn't in the best condition to drive in order to trade it in. They do a good job explains things in lay person terms as well. My husband just recently leased a car with this dealership and it was a great experience. Typical greasy auto dealership using entrapment tactics. Tried to upsell me on a new tire for a simple patch job due to minor damage from a nail. Told them to put my tire back on so I could get it fixed somewhere else because I'm not buying a new tire from them. They proceeded to tell me the tire was unrepairable and they had already took the nail out so I essentially couldn't drive on it anymore. Luckily, I had a spare which I told them to throw on so I could leave. Went to a nearby tire shop and got it patched for $10. Hyundai West still had the nerve to charge me 30 for a 'service' fee. Very sleazy operation you have going over there, Skillman. Will not be getting any more of my business, that's for sure. Avoid like the plague read more

Let me start off by saying that the Ray Skillman Hyundai West Service Check-In Staff have always been courteous and helpful. This is particularly true of Service Advisor Brantly Batton. However, you better grab a snack or a drink because this is going to be a long and unfavorable review. To explain this fully, I have to go back to May 2022. At that time I initiated about $2,006.00 worth of work on my 2008 Elantra that had been advised previously by the Service Department. Never pushy just remindful. The Service Department called and said they did not have a part in stock but located on in Chicago and would have it shipped to Indianapolis. Not sure how they shipped it but it took a full 7 days before I got my car back. A few days after this work, my car started making a squealing noise when first started. After a brief time, it went away. Thinking this was a loose fanbelt I returned to the dealership to have it evaluated. I was told that they were "backed up" and the earlies I could get the car in was July 27, 2002. That seemed ridiculous but, being retired and not driving much, I accepted that. I brought the car in on July 27 as scheduled. At that time the air conditioning unit was not cooling. The unit was recharged and worked fine. It was also determined that a new serpentine belt was needed "due to aging". According to record, the belt had been replaced by the dealership on May 3, 2022. The belt was replaced at no charge. A few days later, the same squeal could be heard on initial start of the engine. But not as loud. I took the car back to the dealership on August 11, 2022. I learned that an "after market" belt had been installed and was not the correct one for my vehicle. It also took 24 hours to get my car back because the person doing the work (can't really call them a "mechanic") failed to bring the completed work ticket up so that I could be notified. The next day at initial start up, (wait for it!) something still squealed. It was determined by the (un)service department that it was due to worn bearings in the alternator. The part was ordered and I requested that the dealership call me when the part came in. In a couple of days the part was in and I arranged to bring the car in to have it replaced. I also asked them to lubricate the car, change the oil, and rotate the tire. The car was returned to me later that day. Given past performance, I checked the oil to make sure that at least had been done. It had. Someone had taken my car to McDonalds. How did I know this? They left their receipt on the passenger's seat. They had a Quarter Pounder with Cheese (no pickle) and a large Coke for $8.60 at 11:58 am on August 22, 2022. They also went through all my things in the car's console. They didn't even bother to put the items back but left them scattered around that area. I understand "test driving" a vehicle after doing work on it and that it was "lunch time". What I don't understand was them going through my things. On August 24, 2022, the AC unit failed to cool in my Elantra but the blower operates fine. See my earlier note on having the AC recharged on July 27. Apparently they only had a small amount of coolant replacement which didn't last. Or maybe it was just continuing sloppy work. My concern is that they have chimpanzees on loan from the Indianapolis Zoo to work on vehicles. They certainly don't have "mechanics". To top it off, on August 14, I received an email asking for my customer feedback. I sent them the feedback above. I then received a message saying, "We take your concerns and honest feedback very seriously. Rest assured we will discuss your comments and take appropriate actions. Please contact us at anytime if we can be of service to you. Sincerely, Justin Bunte, Vice President, Ray Skillman West, (317) 293-8060". So much for being concerned about their customers. DO NOT have your vehicle serviced at this location! read more

Buyer Beware - Used cars being up-charged due to possible lease residuals?! I first inquired about a used 2018 Camry on Friday September 22. I spoke with a salesman who offered to take a $500 deposit to hold the vehicle which I obliged as I live near Chicago and would be coming quite a distance. I wanted to ensure the vehicle was there. About an hour later, the salesman called back and told me unfortunately the car was not available for purchase. He seemed unsure in his answer, but I asked for him to call me back if the vehicle became available and he said he would. Fast forward to today, Wednesday September 27, and I notice the vehicle is still listed on their website. I decided to reach out via the online portal to see if the vehicle is still available. I was told via text by Mya at the Hyundai dealer that it was available. I asked again if I would be able to put a deposit down and come and on Friday given my distance from the dealer. She put me on hold for a minute to talk to her manager. When she came back, she told me that it was on their buy here pay here lot and I would have to purchase through them. I asked her to transfer me and she did. I then spoke to Ingrid from the finance department of the buy here pay here lot. I once again asked if I could put a deposit down and come see the vehicle on Friday. She put me on hold to ask her manager, Danielle. Ingrid informed me I would have to come in and see if I qualified for the vehicle. I informed that I would be paying cash and again she puts me on hold to talk to Danielle. She came back and basically told me that I would have to come in and test drive and we would go from there. I asked politely if I could speak to Danielle directly as I have now talked to 3+ people in the dealership getting piecemeal information from managers and I just want some straight answers. I waited on hold for about 20 minutes for Danielle and I heard the phone pick up and hang up. At this point I'm getting irritated, but I decided to call back. The receptionist transferred me back to Ingrid. I said I think we were disconnected, and she said yeah Danielle is on with another customer. Can she give you a call back? I said I would wait on hold. Danielle picks up within 2 minutes and just seemed full of attitude from the start. I again explained I was hoping to put a deposit down and come purchase the vehicle on Friday. She told me the way their program works if I want to pay cash is I would have to pay the list price of the car, residuals, taxes, and fees. She was working in the background to get me the out the door price and was adding things like "its not even through service yet. I can't sell it until its through service. I don't even know if there is anything wrong with it" Which I replied, "I am a very interested buyer, if you can get some information on that, I would appreciate it." Finally Danielle said, the out the door price would be $25,xxx. The car is listed on Ray Skillman Hyundai's page for $15,990. I asked how she got to that number if the price is listed for $15,990. She said because I have to pay residuals because this car is meant to be leased, and this would be the price I would have paid for the lease and the outright price for the car on the tail end of the lease. NOWHERE on the Ray Skillman Hyundai website does the car indicate it would be a lease or anything of the sorts. I looked even after the cost and they have calculators for financing and cash purchase. The website even allows me to "submit and offer" for a cash price of $15,990 + 225 doc fee. If I can't purchase a vehicle for the price listed on the website in cash, I would consider that false advertising. If the above is true and this is meant to be a leased vehicle, that needs to be clearly indicated on their website, which it is not. It just seems like I was given the run around and wasted several hours of my life for this to not pan out. If the vehicle was meant to be a lease, why did I need to speak to 4 individuals before SOMEONE could tell me that? And if this is truly intended to buy here pay here lease vehicle, why is it listed on the HYUNDAI website as a vehicle the online system says I can pay outright for? I feel very taken advantage of and am super annoyed that I had to sit and listen to the hold message talking about this dealership priding themselves on their principles. read more

I purchased my vehicle from Ray Skillman Kia. I wrote a review about them based on my amazing experiences there and have truly never gone anywhere else... before this week. When my car got a flat tire, I used my tire warranty to have my car towed to the Kia dealership to fix it. I have had nothing but good experiences there in the past. The tow truck driver made the mistake of dropping it off at this Hyndai location instead of the Kia one. That was the start of these issues. Not only did I not get any information that it was not at the Kia location, but when I found out the next day at the close of business, they said that my car would not be ready until Monday. I explained to them that I already missed one day of work waiting for my vehicle today and that Kia typically gives me a loaner vehicle if it takes longer. I said I wanted that benefit because I needed to work over the weekend as an essential social worker during this pandemic. Not only did they try to charge me $35 every day that I would have a loaner, but the person I spoke to on the phone was incredibly disrespectful and rude that I ended up having to transfer my call to the Kia service department to try and get answers as to what was going on. Moving forward one day, it is Saturday and I am still without my car and without an update. I called ahead and asked if I could have my partner get my work keys from the car, which was approved. I sent my partner to the building to get my work keys which include my badge so then I can get back to work. They then had my partner call me to tell me I needed to call to give information about my vehicle. After I do so, the person I spoke to, Keith Woods, informs me that he found my car but couldn't find my keys. He then asked if I had a spare key that could be brought up there to unlock it. I said that it was ridiculous to have my partner drive all the way home to find a spare and drive all the way back, that if they have my car and are trying to fix it, and that they still hadn't given me any additional updates on when it'd be repaired even though it was there for 2.5 days now, they should have my key. He then puts me on hold and within 2 minutes, they put my partner on the phone to explain to me that they not only had no record of my vehicle being dropped off but that I needed to bring my key up there to get my work keys. They couldn't even tell me themselves! Beyond disrespectful and not even close to helpful. I don't think I can go into any further detail of how disappointed I am with this location. With all the amazing experiences I had at Kia, this one shouldn't even have the Ray Skillman name. read more

This is the new sneak attack dealership. No pressure, genuine attitudes eager to get you a "good" deal on the vehicle right for you; seems like many dealerships are doing this. I'm really surprised at the high ratings. Maybe it was just an off week for the sales people here? Our trio dropped in for driving a Mazda 3, Honda Accord, and Nissan Maxima. Taylor took care of us and was happy to hook us up with a plate despite the too obvious appearance of three guys casually shopping and not dropping cash tonight. The Mazda, exciting car, too good for people who assume a Civic is the pick. No way, drive a Mazda 3 alongside any other compact car! Then we skipped the Accord for the Maxima but things went a little rough. Hardly out of the lot, we realized the tires had deflated during the winter climate changes to around 25psi each. I half expected to end up at another dealer for a Mazda 6 and Subaru but my friend had other ideas. He feel for the Maxima, not even trying to move the price down a bit (kids these days!) he was all for sending off Taylor to start paper work. As the car addict of the group who often goes hunting for my car needy friends, the Maxima was decently priced compared to listings between Chicago and Indy. All things looked OK! They'd need to detail the Maxima and organize financing. We planned the paper stuff two days later. Taylor was all about having the tires pumped up too. That Friday, weirdly not a Taylor in sight. She never did explain herself. Not only do we end up waiting nearly an hour wondering around the show cars, making small talk with the staff, and getting bored trying to figure out how a big dealership isn't ready to sell their own inventory in 48 hours - the sneaky dealer tactics rear their ugly heads. A $250 "anti-theft tracking" fee which from what I gather is entirely an easy $250 for the dealer to provide a smug "peace of mind" wave for their income. Top it off with the stealership math of "doc and compliance fees" and (I wasn't that nosy) rich cake they fed themselves in the last seconds of paper singing - became apparent to me that the techniques have evolved into a slippy pill the customer is forced to swallow or look like a jerk backing out of the deal. To top it off, financing rates for my friend (who has an ideal tech job with basic small expenses) were double what they should've been. All washed over with "just get to your own bank back home to re-finance" - is this normal? A huge dealer network with tons of resources and experience telling a customer to get better financing themselves? I was getting quite irked by it all. Forgot Taylor who never showed up or offered explanation, I just wanted to get the car and get going. After way too long, we're starting up the Maxima, which for all the nonsense, a gorgeous car goes a long way to amend things. But hey! What's this? Tire pressure warning lights, the front right at 53psi, other three at 26. We got to Casey's (free air!) on the way home to do the dealer's work ourselves. This is why I buy my own cars on Craigslist and recommend everyone be responsible, mature, and do the same. At least research beforehand and make sure you're paying for what you get. Craigslist has quite the image but really is the same casual friendly people offering a mediocre experience but for $1000s less - best of all no extra fees or financing nonsense. How has this place gotten all the 5/5 ratings? It's the biggest dealer fears for me right here: cliche positive people that hope being super polite covers up excessive dealer fees and lax car prep. It's that sneaky dealer without the ability to maintain their inventory but has donuts! Ya frustrated by this experience? Go eat a cookie! I felt this weird vibe watching the papers revealing the nasty fees, like "what you gonna do? walk out over $500?" - well yeah, I would. read more

The service center at Ray Skillman Hyundai has to be the worst service center I have EVER been to. Just to be clear, I'm not a first time customer that just bought a car and wants to start a problem. My most recent purchase from Ray Skillman was a 2019 Mustang GT in April of last year, that totaled 5 vehicles that my family has purchased from Ray Skillman over the past 4 year period. Also, this is about the service center, not sales. Please do not let this distract you from the sales professionals there. I scheduled an appointment to have a Genesis G80 serviced due to a technical issue and for a scratch to be repaired. My appointment was for 7:15am, I live 48 minutes from the dealership, so I had to leave pretty early to get there. As I arrived the rep there immediately said, "I don't know if I can service your car here... let me check." I asked him why he though that, and he stated that they lost their Genesis certification at that location and could not work on them anymore. He goes to the back to get a lady that was the manager. She confirmed that they could not work on the vehicle. The manager was in the building the day I scheduled to have the car serviced for the issue, she saw the car, and said nothing about not being able to service it. She was just concerned about speaking with the rep that was helping me about things she had to do after she got off work while he was scheduling mu appointment. At this point, I'm visible frustrated. I asked, "why would you schedule an appointment with me if my vehicle could not be serviced?" They said they did not know why he scheduled the appointment, he should have known that. Keep in mind, this same manager was speaking to him as he was scheduling the appointment with the vehicle sitting right in front of her. I asked about still having my vehicle scratches fixed at the collision location as it was scheduled as well after they finished there. I was told by both of them that there is no paint scratch package, repeatedly... I advised them that I was positive that this package was for scratches, their response was that no dealer sells a package like that. After them telling me this, I drove right across the street to the collision location to ask about this. I showed the rep working the paperwork, he looked up the information and advised me that I have the scratch repair package with dent removal, as well as the wheel and tire package. The fact that they lied to me repeatedly is one of the main reasons why I am taking the time to write this. The level of professionalism and courtesy shown from the Hyundai Repair Center manager and her representative that was working (1/9/2020 at 7:15am) was absolutely despicable. The Ray Skillman name is tarnished when you have people that do not want to provide service in a customer service role as they did not. This is not the case for every location, but this is certainly the case for the individuals that were working at Hyundai this morning. Hopefully this review helps change that. read more

I usually go to the Kia dealership across the road since I have a Kia but for going there a few times every time is a three hour wait. I had ran something over and was stuck in my tire. Jamie had my information and got my car right in. She was completely upfront and honest and could not have been any better. They were able to fix my tire and send me on my way. Hyundai has a nav. update that they require you to have a computer and you have to buy a flash drive,considering everything is in short supply the didn't have a single ,so I had to get two drives I don't need. Now I still don't have the update done and that came out in Aug.2022 and it's Dec. now. Remind you this is a 2021 and they can't do the Nav update. read more

I purchased a 2013 Sonata elsewhere this past weekend. Being a single woman in the market for a car, I'm sort of a walking target. I had insisted the dealership allow me to take the vehicle I was considering purchasing to a Hyundai dealership to have it checked out. Ray Skillman is a few blocks away from my company's warehouse...so it was the first place I thought to take it. I called on a Saturday morning to ask if they would be able to do an inspection. They did not have time, as it was Saturday (duh. You can tell I work a lot of weekends and don't think about that kind of thing) but Tony was kind enough to tell me I could bring it by for a VIN check. I did, and he told me some info about the vehicle. He then spent at least half an hour of his time checking the car out himself and recommending a few things that it might need in the next 10,000 miles. He even drove the car around for a few minutes to check the suspension for me. I was really impressed by his kindness and willingness to help someone who wasn't even making a purchase at their dealership. I did end up purchasing the car after he put my mind at ease about it, and took it in for service this morning to take care of a few minor things. The service advisor that took care of me this morning (I am horrible with names and my paperwork is in the car) was wonderful. He did not try pushing me in to anything I didn't need, and addressed what I did ask for. He kept me informed on what everything would cost the entire time. The waiting area itself was pretty impressive. There were several comfortable couches and chairs, as well as a larger table to sit at in case you need to work while you're waiting. It smelled like bacon when I got there since it was 7:15ish in the morning. I kept seeing people with cookies in there as time went on and finally figured out they make cookies there for the customers, haha. They had a few televisions, as well as gaming chairs, a phone charging station, and magazines. I saw people with coffee too. I didn't wander through the whole area but they try to make waiting as pleasant as possible it seems. I will definitely continue having my car serviced here. read more

I have never been treated so poorly. The salesperson (Roc or Rock) intercepted me before I could get to the person I was told to meet. I suppose that's standard procedure at dealerships so not such a big deal. I was looking at an older car that I need for work. I was immediately pushed towards a more expensive car and then was told that was sold. I was told that it was not possible to finance such an insignificant amount. I almost immediately obtained the required amount from my personal bank, but would not buy a car here. I was very much treated by the salesperson as if my purchase didn't matter because he had "sold more cars than anyone there." I never was even allowed to see the car I went to see. read more

I purchased my Sonata from Ray Skillman at the end of April 2018. Everything about my buying experience was great. My salesman, Michael, helped us with the test drives of three cars before we settled on the Sonata. It has every safety feature imaginable and drives like a dream. The Sonata has a huge trunk and even has air conditioned seats. Michael introduced us to all the sales managers, service managers and the finance manager. There were even warm cookies available in the waiting room. If I have one issue with the car it is that it has so many features that three months later I'm still trying to figure them all out. Nicest car I have ever owned. My first warranty checkup is next week so I'll let Yelp readers know how the service part of my Hyundai ownership goes. read more
