Dr Rayne and her staff are excellent. She is truthful, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. I have had excellent results from working with her and had very big problem due to poor dentistry in the past. read more

I do not recommend this dental office for a few reasons. First, lack of follow up. We called the office 3x in a span of 10 days and left two voicemails. A front desk answered one of the calls and said the billing coordinator would call back by end of day. No call back until we left two voicemails. Second, it is concerning that they do not use forms for documentation for treatment plans that shows exactly what they are billing and expecting to give the patient an idea of what can potentially be out of pocket. This is especially important when a provider is out of network so the patient is aware and informed. If a patient were to check their benefits (which we did) and it's states it is covered at 100% that may not be the case. The office bills at UCR (usual customary fee) which is normal to bill this way, but then the insurance pays at a negotiated rate regardless of being in network or out of network. Then this office charges the patient the remaining balance for preventative and diagnostic services. This dental office also did not provide documentation that tells their patient they are out of network with all insurances. Verbal information can be hearsay and they are human what if they did not tell their patient this. There can be improvements as to how they navigate these situations. They need to have clarity and be up front with their patients. I am huge on advocating for people (in this case patients) and I would not do this to any of my customers. Something that was said to me was, "If you saw the EOB (explanation of benefits) of what they even paid it's not enough to cover overhead costs". My thoughts on this is that maybe you do not know how to properly run a financially viable office if you have to charge out of network to stay financially viable. read more

Dr. Rayne is incredibly friendly, knowledgable, and thorough. Within minutes of examining my teeth for the first time she diagnosed a problem I had with grinding my teeth at night, she showed me the tell-tale patterns of wear on my front teeth with a mirror. Very disappointing that my previous dentist of five years had somehow failed to make the same observation. One of the things she does that impresses me is how she takes time during exams to carefully explain what it is that she sees or what she's doing and why it is significant. This applies not only to how she addresses her patients, but also how she speaks to her staff. Never in my life have I seen a doctor take such an active interest in finding teachable moments to help better educate their staff. On the same token, if you have questions or concerns for her, Dr. Rayne will take her time to thoughtfully respond. She even drew a diagram for me once in response to a question. I like the office space, too. Parking is never a problem and the interior itself is cozy and softly lit with lots of natural light. When you're in the dentist chair, the staff go out of their way to help you feel comfortable by doing things like bringing you water, pillows, blankets, and/or sunglasses. Dr. Rayne is also all about holistic therapy options, so this could be a big plus or minus depending on how you feel about that alternative medicine. Personally, I'm a fan. I hope she never retires! I'm already dreading the thought of ever having to find another dentist because she is hands down the BEST dentist I've ever had. read more

Another dentist disempowerd me, so I figured a "holistic" dentist would empower me, but alas, no! Dr. Rayne made me gargle with colloidal silver, a substance the National Institutes of Health warn against. She also sold me some colloidal silver spray. Both she and her assistant assured me that Dr. Rayne isn't like other dentists as she is "conservative", instead of "aggressive", but at best, she resembles other dentists, and at worst, she seems like the most aggressive dentist I ever had. Did they lie to me? She recommended the same treatment as the "non-holistic" dentist, despite me pleading for other options. I hate it when people refuse to budge, when you try to negotiate. She also painted a bleak and pessimistic plan, whereas I prefer optimism. She and her assistant talk at you at 100 miles a minute. They know their stuff, but if the stuff isn't holistic, does it matter? They cram information into you and they don't let you breathe! This office overbooks their patients. It takes forever to get in, and they put you on a wait list. Furthermore, while they treat you, they dash around frantically. I fear they will treat the wrong tooth on the wrong patient someday, as things like this happen when you overload your office with patients. I felt rushed as if I was a burden. Dr. Rayne is a renaissance woman, who will speak at length on any topic ranging from civic organizations to animal husbandry to spirituality. While I'm sure Dr. Rayne would make a fabulous dinner guest, this sharing of knowledge while operating on a patient makes me wonder if she is concentrating during dentistry. She reminds you she has been doing dentistry for 37 years, which might sound good, but it seems it has made her overconfident. Although I have read about and experienced other dentists engaging in aggressive upselling, I never experienced an assistant doing this, and it makes me wonder if she gets a bonus for everything she sells. Furthermore, this assistant is so aggressive she tries to sell you new stuff before the ink even dries on the last check. Even the biggest upsellers among dentists usually are content with just one sale at a time. I thought "holistic" meant prevention, yet whenever I try to engage them in prevention talk, they suggest there is nothing you can do. I want prevention as I try to diligently do the right things with dental matters and nutrition, but they refuse to discuss prevention and go right to treatment. It makes me wonder if the holistic part of the practice is just a cynical marketing ploy. I guess she does offer herbal tea in the lounge, so that makes the practice worthy of the "holistic" label, hey? The solution to every problem is to give Dr. Rayne more money. I showed her a mouthguard that another dentist sold to me, which may have caused more problems than it solves, and Dr. Rayne asked how much he charged, and I told her $400, then she said that I paid too much, but in a non-sequitur, she tried to sell me a mouthguard set for $650. If $400 is too much for a mouthguard, why should I pay an additional $650 for other mouthguards? The assistant does not listen at all! She does not read people well and doesn't hear what they say. Dr. Rayne only works 4 days a week, which makes scheduling an appointment even worse. Why not work everyday like most others? They want to put you on a wait list and give you a few days notice at most to squeeze you in. But for those of us who work, employers usually require 1-2 weeks advance notice before requesting days off. I'm glad I save money in an emergency fund, because if you can't pay the full rate, they make you get a health credit card, and I avoid credit cards like Dave Ramsey and others recommend. This office is way out of the way, so even if you do manage to schedule an appointment, you might have to take the whole day off of work. They prolong procedures into two sessions that other dentists do in one. The first time I called, a warm and welcoming receptionist spoke with me, so I thought I found a good place, but everything after that went downhill. The receptionist Lisa always seems cranky. She called me up, because someone cancelled, but I had to come in in 5 days, but my employer wants a week's notice, I explained. Since they couldn't accommodate me, the receptionist said she would note that I can't come in on short notice on the wait list. I suppose if you are retired or someone else supports you full time so you don't have to work, then this place might suit you, but for the majority of the rest of us, this tight scheduling doesn't help. To be fair, I will note a couple of positives. Dr. Rayne does stock the lounge with good sweeteners like stevia and monk fruit extract, which as I read, do not cause tooth decay. They also don't charge for sending x-rays to another dentist. Thankfully, I found another dentist, who seems much better! We will see. You too go somewhere else! read more

just now I love Elizabeth Rayne, she is a genius, extremely knowledgeable. I look forward to my visits. My only complaints are this last time, for a 6 month cleaning, I only saw the hygenist and not Elizabeth Rayne. I also wish it was the same hygienists and assistants when we go in, they are always different as she hires on call. I was bummed to not have Rayne at least confirm what she saw for my cleaning, not used to that. I love her insight and suggestions! Dr. Rayne gives the most gigantic loving hugs in the entire world of dentistry! Name another dentist in the world who does that. Moreover, I appreciate Dr. Rayne's holistic practice as I do not want toxic substances in my mouth or body. She is always extremely careful about products she uses to treat her patients and offers a lovely coconut oil for oil pulling that I use. Her dental hygienist is great although she was running late by about 20 minutes. It was the gal in front of me who had to use her cell phone a minimum of a dozen times. DURING A TEETH CLEANING. Seriously?!! Checking out is painless because the office gives a "wisdom" discount to those over a (cough) certain age. Love her and all her staff! Who knew going to the dentist could be fun?! When I was a kid I had braces. (Thank you Mom and Dad!) But my orthodontist, Dr. Atherton was a real... meanie. I didn't like him one bit, but I didn't think I had a choice. If I wanted straight teeth I had to endure this big man telling me to stop being such a baby as he tightened the metal glued to my teeth. I guess he did good work but still... I would not recommend Dr Atherton. But the point of this post is that I would highly recommend Dr. Rayne. She's sweet, patient, smart, holistic and laughs at good jokes. Ahem. Dr. Rayne and her staff are quite simply, amazing. Don't let Dr. Rayne's eccentricity hide how brilliant she is, she is incredibly intelligent and a gifted dentist. I'm lucky to have stumbled upon her. I've never had someone show more time and love on my teeth than this woman. After speaking with her for a few moments you can immediately tell she has a passion for people and teeth. Dr. Rayne discovered that under many of my fillings (done by my previous dentist) I had decay. The previous dentist I saw moved patients in and out, and did not treat each tooth as, well, a piece of art. Each tooth needed to be shaped so that the filling would fit perfectly, not allowing microscopic gaps or decay to find its way there again. She spent the extra time needed on each tooth to do just that, rather than the standard hole or long groove my last dentist did for each tooth - which in the end really didn't solve the problem. Not only is Dr. Rayne a better dentist than my last, she was also cheaper! Go figure! She's got a patient for life. read more

Dr. Rayne is the most amazing dentist I've ever had. I just went in for a cleaning the other day and I'm still amazed how thorough and caring the staff is! They took time on each individual tooth and each person that worked with me seemed to have a genuine interest in what they do. I like the little science lessons that were provided. Without me providing too much info, Dr. Rayne even picked up on hidden things, most of my past Primary Care Doctors have missed. I saw Dr Rayne for years. We agree philosophically with medical care and I really like Dr. Rayne as a person. I brought my dad there because I had confidence in her. And while she did thorough work and was super patient with him (he has dementia), we spent thousands trying to save teeth that just needed to be yanked. I appreciate that she wanted to save them because that was my dad's desire, but the job of a professional is to give the best medical advice, even if we don't like it. His teeth were shot and needed to go. dentures and implants were the best option. 2 years later, my dad is down to 7 teeth despite thousands spent with dr rayne (and painful procedures) to try to save the 20 teeth or so that he had remaining. for me, I had a series of fillings to complete after I had my daughter (couldn't have them done during pregnancy). Dr rayne is so cautious to preserve the original tooth, which I appreciate, but in my case, it took hours for a filling and she left decay behind. another filling that she did fell out. I came back after a month of pain, and told her that I had been on ibuprofen in order to be able to sleep (despite that I generally reject western medicine) because the tooth still hurt. I was charged for x rays and an ozone treatment. The pain continued. And honestly the fillings were traumatic because they just took so long that I needed multiple rounds of novocaine as the original novacaine wore off. It took me a bit to find another dentist that I could trust and even longer to be willing to get the fillings I still needed, but when I did, he found that two of her fillings from a year ago needed to be replaced. I asked but was not refunded the money because it had been more than a year since the filing. But the experience had been so painful that it took a year to be able to consider working on these fillings again that had just been done! (I did get teeth cleanings during that time). read more

I had the occasion to choose Dr. Rayne as my dentist after I had a 2 year relationship with another "holistic" dentist in town that ended in catastrophe and cost me thousands of dollars and the loss of 4 of my daughter's teeth. (I won't mention any names, but the other dentist is female). Anyhoo.... Dr. Rayne and her staff are AMAZING and all I can say is that the only good thing that came out of my relationship with our last dentist is the reason to look for someone new and I am glad I did! Dr. Rayne completed the most thorough exam on my mouth I have ever had! She truly looks at you "holistically" and isn't trying to sell your crowns every time you go in. The staff is very nurturing and gentle and the office is small, but cozy and nice. If you are looking to get out of "industrial dentistry" and be treated like a PERSON - Dr. Rayne is the one! I even pay out of pocket to see her since she is "out of network" on my insurance. I don't care- she is that good!! read more

I love Dr. Margaret E. Rayne! After a not so great experience at a dentist in Austin, I went to her for a second opinion about a second cavity. The entire experience was so amazing, I'm actually looking forward to my next cleaning! Her staff is so friendly and welcoming. Dr. Rayne is very educational and explained in detail how she would assess the condition of the tooth and determine the work that needed to be done. When it came time to working on my tooth, her staff and her were so gentle, I didn't even need pain medicine. In fact I actually went home and ate crackers right after as I had NO pain! The whole experience was excellent. I went in for a cleaning and exam and both were full of genuine Love for teeth and the role they play in a human's being . As soon as the hygienist started I could feel the genuine interest in my teeth and gums, she is Fabulous. Dr. Rayne's assistant is lovely and when Dr. Rayne came in to do my evaluation I could feel the deep respect she has for Dr. Rayne. I don't think I could have been happier with my dentist appointment- Especially considering it was my first cleaning in 10+ years. I needed a deep cleaning/ scaling due to the calcification buildup under my gums and the process was quick and relatively painless. I also left feeling educated about my current and future state of dental hygiene. I highly recommend Dr. Rayne and my wonderful dental assistant Shelley. Dr. Rayne and her staff are just about the most nurturing, caring dentist's office you could imagine. They are in South Austin, but easy to get to. She is a holistic, natural dentist and is amazingly smart! I went to her because I was having health problems and one doctor said that I was allergic to the material used in my crowns and that I needed to get them removed and replaced immediately. Dr. Rayne was very calm and reassuring. She recommended that I first get tested for allergies to see what materials I truly am allergic to (why guess when you can be sure?). She listened to my health issues and then said to me "well, it sounds to me as though you are too acidic". What? I had never heard that before. I had seen about 5 different docs and got 5 different diagnosis. I had been tested for parasites, given medications for bladder infections, yeast infections....etc. Dr. Rayne gave me a list of foods that are too acidic and suggested I stay away from those for a while. It worked! Crazy, I know. But all of my health problems went away. 5 MD's couldn't figure it out and Dr. Rayne picked up on it right away. Nutrition is so important. She is a great dentist and a better doctor than all those other MD's I went to! I will stay very loyal to this Doctor for sure. read more

Couple this quality with her deep sense of devotion, and the result is the cornerstone of an unsurpassed team. Jazmane and Selena keep operations at the front desk running as smoothly as a Swiss clock. Kathleen and Becky are the hygienists. Honestly, I was clueless on gum care, but under Kathleen's tutelage, almost overnight, they went from Komodo dragon to movie star status. Becky was so thrilled at my progress, and was done with deep cleaning in a fraction of the time. Then she went on to explain that I had undoubtedly extended my life expectancy as a result. At sixty-eight, that's good news! Assistants Lianna, Tasha and Rose; simply the best in the field!
