I was referred by Auto Gallery since my new purchase wasn't covered under warranty. I thought it was going to be a $700 financial disaster to pay for the fuel pump repair, but Ray only charged me for what needed to be fixed when we all know other mechanics would have taken full advantage. Then my brake light came on & instead of replacing all the brake pads, again he only replaced what needed to be fixed. As a kind gesture, he fixed my key remote as well at no charge as the key wold not stick. Then as I was pulling out of the garage, Ray noticed my driver's side brake light was out, had a spare bulb & replaced it on the spot. Now that is customer service, which is hard to come by in the Bay Area! Ray has a tremendous customer-oriented business, knows foreign, domestic & luxury cars like the back of his hand & it most definitely shows in his work. This review is long overdue! I have used Ray for my auto repair work on two separate occassions now. Last year, my brakes were metal to metal and Ray fixed them at a very competitive price and did a quality job. Fast forward to last week, my starter went out. I had to have AAA tow my car over to Ray's shop. Ray not only fixed my car in less than 24 hours, he also arranged the rental car company set me up with a rental. I've been using Ray as the mechanic for all my cars for a very long time...a couple decades at least! When I first heard about him it was through a coworker whose brother had gone to high school with Ray and because he had such integrity in HS had convinced his whole family use him. My husband and I knew nothing about cars and very little $'s so when he was recommended so highly we gave it a shot. Ray's Auto Repair does not even deserve 1 star, and this is based on his outright betrayal and abuse of customer's trust. On 11/17/16, I used Ray's Pre Purchase Inspection service on a 2003 Mercedes Benz I was about to purchase from Phantom Motors down the street. I planned on using my own repair shop for the inspection service but they were not available at the moment, so taking suggestion from Phantom Motors, I let them take me to Ray's Auto Repair for the inspection service. At one point, Ray indicated to me that he is friends with the owner at Phantom Motors. I did hesitate about the potential of conflict of interest, and said to Ray point blank that I understand he is friends with Phantom Motors, but I expect him to be honest and upfront with me. Ray looked at me in the eyes and indicated that he has very good reputation and is very honest. Back to the inspection service, this service, according to Ray, will do a very thorough check up of this vehicle and pinpoint all potential, major and minor problems so that I can make an intelligent purchase decision. When I got the report back after a few hours, the report listed 3 very minor problems that cost about $300. That's it. Ray even indicated to me verbally that this is a car that is in 'very good condition', and that even though he spotted oil leaks, it is 'very minor'. So I purchased the car from Phantom Motors. 5 days after the purchase, I experienced major issues with the car while driving on a highway that almost resulted in an accident. The car lost power all of a sudden and with no forewarning, the car started shaking and not responding when I pressed down on the acceleration pedal. The Check Engine light also went on. I then got 2 other independent inspection services on the car, both reported to me that the exhaust pipes were clogged and needed to be replaced, the oil leaks were heavy, the brakes were worn more than 50%, amongst others, and it will require a repair of at least $4,000. Both repair shops offered to back up their claims if I decide to file a complaint. I paid $125 for Ray's service. Money aside, his outright betrayal and abuse of customer's trust needs to stop. Avoid this shady auto-shop run by this shady man. For $125, he is willing to lie to a customer who put all her trust in him. I can only imagine when the stakes are higher, what Ray is capable of. read more

Ray's Auto Repair is the place to go for ANY auto need you may have. I don't know much about cars so I often rely on word of mouth to find help. My sister heard of Ray's through a friend and luckily she shared her incredible find with me. My check engine light went on and my anxiety went up. Arrangements were quickly made and I had my car (2002 VW Jetta) towed to the shop (which is now located at 21739 Mission Blvd. Hayward CA 94541--behind Star Auto Glass). They called and let me know that my car arrived safely and they'd check it out and get back to me as soon as they knew what was up. Long story short. My car was ready in less than 24 hours and I didn't have to sell any organs to pay for it. When I went to pick up my car they'd kept the faulty sensor to show me and detailed what they did. He also mentioned some other things that I might want to address in the future (not in that doom and gloom/you're going to die if you don't fix it right this second kind of way.) I casually mentioned a few other issues I was having (I was wondering if they might magically be resolved by the sensor they fixed) he asked if I had a few moments and he'd take a quick peek. You're doing me a favor and you're being respectful of my time too?!?!?!? why can't I give you more stars, Ray's Auto Repair? Do not TRUST Ray. When shopping around for used vehicle from a dealer in the area I asked if I can have a mechanic do a pre purchase inspection, the dealer agreed only if Ray his friend will inspect the vehicle because he is so "honest" the dealer drove the BMW to Ray's shop. Before Ray looked at the car he asked me to pay him $175 for PPI. Of course I paid and then Ray asked me to go and he will contact me in few hours. few hours later I received a call from Ray telling me "it's a excellent car someone one else is also interested but my friend will wait for you" I asked him does the car need anything? No it's like new. So I trusted Ray and took a uber to his dealer friend paid for the BMW did all the paperwork and drove home. Or tried to drive it home. On the way the car overheated and something silver was coming out with the water!! I called Ray and he was going to call me back No calls back. AAA towing took the car to a shop in Campbell ca. The shop owner called me minutes after looking at the car and he confirmed the car have a blown head gasket and no way Ray did not now that as he most likely put the stop leak in the coolant. be very careful he is a crook his dealer friend also a crook. My attorney filed a lawsuit against both and Ray is running away. He is a looser crook!!! read more
