This was one of the most tasteless briskets I have ever had along with the chicken. I'm not sure they even smoke this stuff. The lady at the counter was friendly and very exciting and service was great. The food was just terrible . I will add the macaroni and cheese and collard greens were very good. Tried this place because it was recommended to me by several locals, fairly underwhelming. I bought the 6 set of ribs, which were good, and I could tell they were smoked properly and they were good and tender. The Mac and cheese was also good, homemade with some good spices but not the best I've had. The reason this is 2 stars is because my 2nd side of green beans were from a can. After spending $18 for a meal to go with a tip, canned vegetables is rather ridiculous for that price. If I go next time, I will only be ordering meat. read more

When I walked in at 12:30 pm Friday, this place was packed and usually this was a good sign. I went with the three meat dinner: double ribs and brisket. Unfortunately, the ribs were way too dry and lack of flavor. They were even non comparable to the ones I got from Couch restaurants (OU dining court). The beef brisket was cooked okay but again it was tasteless.Yes their BBQ sauce was not bad but I believe good BBQ meat should stand on its own and there is no need for extra sauce. The two sides: beans and collard green were just fine, nothing fancy. Overall this was an overrated place for me. Unless I could find a better BBQ place nearby, I would stick to Couch restaurants which are closer. read more

This is the first time we've had the food and although it was an awful experience, I will usually give them the benefit of the doubt once. The turkey was cut too thin and so dry it crumbled. The bologna was very thin and just didn't seem right. Smokehouse beans were Bush's beans with a few things added you in. They have a lot of stars so maybe we hit at a really bad time. I finally got a chance to come here and was introduced with the Two Meat Combo with brisket and smoked turkey and a side of mac and cheese. Holy cow. The brisket was tender as could be and the smoked turkey was a thick slice of smokey goodness. There was a perfect amount of mac and cheese, buttery and cheesy to the last bite. You have your choices of BBQ sauce, mild and hot. The mild has a sweetness to it, while the hot gives you a little peppery kick that even the most spice-sensitive can enjoy. Round that meal out with slices of toast and fountain drinks or tea and you will leave satisfied. There are plenty of places to sit, it's nice and clean and pictures of patrons past line the walls for you to enjoy. Prices are moderate but well worth it - you are definitely not overpaying here. I have been to some ma-and-pa, as well as some chain BBQ places since I have moved here and none have had the selection, quality and service of Ray's. My other half went to the restaurant to pick up our order and was so tickled to have a photo with Ray! Reliable BBQ. Our group went for lunch and had the pulled pork sandwiches & 2 meat plate of sliced pork & sausage. The sides we tried included; Mac n cheese, potato salad, fries, & fried okra. The Mac N cheese & potato salad were out of this world and worth ordering extra to go. The fries were liked by some & not others. The fries are extra thick and crispy and seemed to be battered & fried. The sweet watermelon tea is amazing and they are famous for it. The atmosphere is basic and there is no table service. Went here because I was in the area and BBQ sounded really good. Being from Texas, I have very high standards for BBQ and let me say, this place was pretty good. First off, the meat is pretty good. I tried chopped brisket, pulled pork, and sausage. Sausage was the same as every other BBQ restaurant although someone I was with said the hot links sausage had a good kick. The pork and brisket weren't dry which is something I'm big on. The sauce was amazing. It's not really a vinegary taste but instead is a bit sweet at the start but has a slight bit of zing to the end. They also have a hot BBQ sauce which has a bit more spice. The bread they serve with meals is great too. It's like the bread you get at Raising Canes (sesame seed bread with a little bit of butter and toasted). I almost like having this bread as much as they slices of white bread they give you at most other BBQ joints. I just wished they gave you more of the bread instead of just one piece! The fruit medley is a tropical canned fruit mixture. Am told that the collared greens were really good. Got mixed reviews of the homemade Mac n cheese. All around very impressed. Worse customer service EVER!!! So today we ordered 5 to go meals. One of the lunch specials requested extra BBQ sauce in place of their drink. Once arriving at Ray's a lady, I am assuming was the manager that ran to come hover over the cashier, needed to make sure we knew, with a HATEFUL attitude, which should never be ok in the food industry, the BBQ sauce costs more than the drink that came with the meal. The extra cost for the extra side of the BBQ sauce is $.59, how is that more than the $1.79 you charge for a drink??? Please Yelpers, Please explain this to me??? You are letting them keep the soda, ice, cup, lid and straw.......... that was $1.79 and you are asking for a 2oz cup of extra BBQ sauce that costs $.59.......... Makes NO since to me!!!! If we had eaten in the restaurant we would have had unlimited BBQ sauce free of charge and as many refills as we wanted too, for the SAME price and taking it to go!!!!! I think I have tried everything on their menu and I haven't eaten anything I didn't think was great. The staff is friendly, they greet and chat with you like you're old friends.
