The bar was set by Bob's Coffee and Donuts, in the Los Angeles Farmers Market. I never had donuts as good ...until we tried Ray's! As indicated by Ray's consistent five star rating, baked goods were bound to be delicious. Their blueberry fritter is perfect, as is their signature sour cream donut. The personable fellow at the counter threw in a couple of gratis melt-in-your-mouth donut holes, and we were hooked. For the biggest selection, get there early. The store opens at 5 a.m. By 1:00 Saturday, stock was dwindling and clientele kept coming. (We sat for a bit over coffee, which, by the way, was as good as Dunkin's celebrated java.) I haven't had a donut in over 6 months. After watching one too many shows on Food Network and turning down a donut from Rays; I thought about glazed donuts so much that I literally woke up in the middle of the night! I had never been to Rays before and I am here to tell you, don't blink or you'll miss the place! Rays is located in a very tiny shopping center with an Italian restaraunt. It is next door to the Rite Aid on the corner of Jamerson so make that your point of interest and don't do what I did and drive by several times! I got there just before 10AM and was surprised at the line out the door and all the cleaned out donut trays. I began talking to some of the people in line and was told people call at 5AM to order their hand made croissants and they sell out of their danish by 7AM. I ordered a dozen donuts, 1 blueberry, 2 sourcream and 7 glazed donuts. To my surprise, the clerk filled the rest of my box with donut holes. I asked her how much extra the donut holes were and she said they were free. "The donut holes should hold you over until you get home" she said with a smile. "No one knows you got them because you make it home with a dozen donuts!" I like their logic and I think I love this girl! The donuts were everything everyone raves about and more! The glazed donuts were bigger than your typical glazed donuts and moist like freshly baked cake. The donuts are better the same day and perfect with coffee on the second day if they last that long in your house. I ended up only eating one sour cream and one glazed and gave the rest away but that doesn't mean I still don't wake up in the middle of the night dreaming about them! read more

These donuts are the best I have had in a very long time! The fist time I stopped by it was a Saturday around 10-10:30. They were completely sold out! This only fueled my desire for their donuts more! I noticed in some other people's reviews this aggravated them but when donuts are sold out before 10am that's a good sign in my opinion! One morning my 5 month old decided she wanted to wake up insanely early about 3am. After she decided she didn't want to go back to sleep and I mustered up the energy to roll out of bed and left for Rays donuts. We got to there around 4:45 (they open at 5). We were the only people in the parking lot. The lights were out but the donut rack was lit and it was filled with perfect donuts glistening with shiny icing. My mouth was already watering. Promptly at 5am they turned on the lights and unlocked the doors. I ordered one dozen, 6 glazed, an apple fritter, buttermilk, 2 chocolate iced, a cinnamon sugar, and an old fashioned. They also thew in a few donut holes. They were all delicious and only cost 8 DOLLARS. I mean seriously I was not even a little surprised they sell out early after that experience. My hubby and I ate the entire dozen before the day was over. Now obviously not everyone has small children to lovingly wake you up at 3am but if you ever find your self up early and near Rays. Sorry it took me so many years to try this local favorite. I'm not a huge donut fan but my husband and kids are. My husband brought home a box this morning and they were really good. He said there was a line out the door at 8 am on this Saturday morning. I had the Boston cream pie, it was soft and not too much filling. Ray's has some damn good donuts. I got a half dozen donuts, and they threw in a couple donut holes "on the house". Service was courteous and prompt, and they had me out of there in no time. And the donuts. Oh the donuts! Fresh and delicious and melt in your mouth soft. I had to put them up or I easily could have eaten them all in one sitting. Some have stated that their variety may be lacking, but it seemed they have close to, if not the same as, you find at a Dunkin. Ray's was my favorite donut place! The last few times we've gone it has been disappointing. The donut holes and yeast donuts used to be so light and airy but not any more.
