So this is a review that simply confirms most of the other reviews. We were sat by a friendly staff and served by a friendly waitress. The chips and salsa were a bit delayed in arriving to the table, but not much. We began eating the chips, unsalted which I loved, and the salsa had some punch which I also liked. It bit back and my family were anxiously awaiting drinks to numb the senses of our tongues. I read a few reviews here while looking at the menu and a common theme emerged, strong drinks with mildly bland food. Wife and I shared a large Sangria Swirl 'rita and Yes, 'pow' to the senses with potency! We asked a few questions of the waitress about some of the menu items which she was gracious to discuss. My wife had nachos and I had beed fajitas for one. Upon arrival, my flame grilled snobbiness reared its head as I saw the meat is flat-top grilled, which does not equate to the same flavor as fire. The nachos were nice sized but lacked anything special to set them apart. The rice was lower quality than local competitors, the charros were tasty but again average. First off, I wish you could give half stars because to me this is closer to a 3.5 than a 3. Rays was good but not knock your socks off good. Everyone was EXTREMELY friendly! Service was good and prompt for how crowded it was. This is honest review of the food...people aside. AI always judge a Tex-Mex place by a few things mainly Fajita quality, Queso and tortillas. Unfortunately Ray's fell a bit flat in the Queso and Tortilla areas. The Queso seems to just be melted yellow American cheese (NOT saying Velveta!) and maybe some cream. There isn't a ton of flavor and there is no onions, tomatoes, cilantro..etc inside. The tortillas are definitely not homemade but they aren't awful either. The bright spot was the fajita meat! Beef was flavorful and tender! I will say our meat was cut with the grain which made some pieces chewy but overall really good beef meat! 4 Stars for the best frozen margs in Katy. They are fantastic. Food is really good to boot. There are better salsas but the frozen margs won't disappoint. Frozen margs on their own are easy 5 stars. More than 2 and you should arrange for transportation home. read more

The parrillada for two was disappointing. The beef was so strange- incredibly black. It gave us the impression of very old meat. The chicken was a bit dry. The shrimps were ok. All of the onions were inedible because they were so black and burnt, they were far from appetizing. I'm not sure if their grill was dirty or if the meat was old, or a combination of both!! The chips were delicious and the queso wasn't bad, but not the freshest either!! Oh! And the beans were dry, almost like they had been sitting out for a while. Salsa above average, chips not hot. Food decent but not remarkable. Tex Mex but not inexpensive enough to justify the strip-center ambiance. Jalapenos from a can instead of roasted or grilled, spanish rice had almost no flavor (not even pink) nor veggies inside it, beans were watered down. But the worst part was the "premium" (non-"house") Margarita. Worst I have had in Texas. As watered down as the beans, and as flavorless as the rice. The tequila was also not the premium brand I had ordered, but instead bartender almost certainly used "Juarez" tequila (the house brand). Pre-covid this was a go-to in the Katy area (it used to be called "Tony's"). The atmosphere is a little better now given renovations, but the food and drink is MUCH worse. Not simply talking inflation here, because the prices are still reasonable. It is simply that the overall experience is just no longer there, and with all the other great options for TexMex out in Katy, I will be surprised if they are still around in a year once all the stimulus money (if that is what explains their existence; it was at about 20% occupancy when we went) runs out. One of my kids (9 yr old daughter) said it best: "Daddy I don't ever want to come back to Ray's." read more

I was with the family in the Katy area and decided to give Ray's a try since they have great reviews on Yelp. We walked in, they sat us down quickly and the server took our order quick. Very disappointed in the food; we ordered the nuggets for the kids and when the food was brought out nuggets looked like they were straight out the freezer bag and just placed in the microwave. My boyfriend ordered the carnitas and they were a big disappointment as well; they were drenched in oil and tasted nothing to how carnitas should. Very bland. To top it off the worst one was the cheeseburger we ordered. The plate had a hair on it and the server instead of apologizing he immediately said 'That's a woman's hair, we only have men in the kitchen' which I was appalled to hear!!! This will be the last time we come to this place. Bad service and bad food. read more

We were in the mood for margarita's so my boyfriend finds on the internet that Tony's has been voted the best margarita in Katy. We have two other go-to Tex-Mex restaurants but with "the best margaritas in Katy" we had to give this place a try. Where should I begin? We showed up at 5:30pm on a Thursday. The place was 100% at capacity, bustling with diners. We thought this was a sign that this place was amazing. Wrong!!!. We each got a "famous" margaritas on the rocks at the bar while waiting and I was in shock as i watched the bartender fill our margarita glasses from out of the hose control thing behind the bar (you know, the one bartenders use for sodas, water, tonic, etc) I tasted the drink and it had a chemical, vinyl taste to it. It was down right terrible. Worst margarita in Katy is more like it. So I thought perhaps it's a drink from their "specialty" drink menu that is so fabulous. On the menu none of the drinks have descriptions, there are just pictures, so I picked one and asked the waiter. He told me with a questioning tone what he thought was in the drink. Hmmm, right, ok, but it's made fresh right? His response: "what do you mean?" I mean you mix the drink fresh, one at a time. Or are they all pre-made mixes like this one (pointed to the first one we ordered). His response: "oh, no, we don't make any fresh, they are all pre-made". WTF? A Mexican restaurant that only has pre-made margaritas? (Only acceptable for the frozen kind for obvious reasons) We ended up just ordering two shots of Tequila and a beer. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and my boyfriend got the carnitas plate. The carnitas was very good. It was moist and flavorful. The gravy on my enchiladas was pretty good. Those are the only good things I can say about this entire meal. The rice was so bland. The beans were bland, bland, bland. I agree with the comparison of another Yelper that the corn tortillas in my enchiladas tasted like a brown paper bag. Oh, wait there was one other thing that we did like. After trying the horrible red salsa that they brought with the chips we asked if they had any other salsas, specifically a green salsa. The waiter brought out a creamy jalapeno salsa which was very good. I actually ended up pouring it over my meal - it helped with the taste. I can not for the life of me understand why this place was so busy and how it got voted best margarita in Katy. Whomever participated in that voting has obviously never had any other margarita - ever. The food is not worth coming back for. We will never return to this restaurant again. read more

Best margaritas into town- NO JOKE!!! I was skeptical seeing that on the side of a suburban Katy eatery in a strip mall, but not only did Tony's deliver on that promise, they also brought out some of the BEST tex-mex we have ever had! Enjoyed everything from the queso to the mini chimichangas to the street tacos with fresh cilantro and onions... AND DEM BEANS OMG fantastic charcoal beans!!! We don't often find ourselves in Katy, but we might have to find more reasons to make it out just to stop by this place. Loved it. Thank you!!! read more

The hot sauce here is amazing but I found the enchiladas a little bland. If you go i would recommend the mole chicken enchiladas.

They have changed their recipe for margaritas. Not nearly as strong. I come here at least once a week and bring lots of different people here and mainly because the margaritas were so good. May have to revert back to Eduardos. Sorry RAYS. Bring back the good margaritas. read more

Don't waste your time at other "Mexican Restaurants"... Go to Tony's and have yourself a hell of a time. Very comfortable dining area with just enough décor to give it an authentic feel. I'm basing my opinion off real Mexican cooking from Meat markets and actual homemade cooking when I say Tony's has a superb taste without the high prices. When I moved to Katy originally I had tried a few Mexican restaurants that don't even deserve to be open. Low quality, high prices. I went and had the Chicken Enchiladas, 2 Taco's, rice, beans and a 1/2 and 1/2 Margarita which hit the spot. I spent around $12 total with tip. Can't wait to return! read more

There are several reasons we love Tony's. The people there are great, from Ray, who is the owner, down through the greeters, to the wait staff to the kitchen. They are all wonderfully friendly as well as efficient. The food is great. My favorite is the Mole Poblano and my wife loves the Spinach Enchiladas. There are many other items that are excellent. Their Margaritas are the best I've ever had, and living in Texas I've tried a lot of different ones. One sure sign of a really good restaurant is the number of long time regulars. As well as lots of new faces there are always lots of familiar faces of long time patrons we see week after week. When they greet you with "Welcome Home", they mean just that. read more

Wasn't impressed. The salsa was good. Very spicy. Food was okay. Flour tortillas are NOT homemade. Tasted more like Tex-mex to me.

I judge all Mexican food restaurants by how good the cheese enchiladas are - if you can't make a simple dish as this I don't carry forward. With that said, this was an exceptionally delicious cheese enchilada dinner. We've seen this place a few times but never ventured in until today and glad we did. Ordered Vegetarian Quesadillas. We did not like it much. Also the veggies inside were not to our liking.

We have eaten in restaurant many times and it's always wonderful. Today we had delivery via door dash and I must say that there packaging is top notch! They took extra care on all items so that crispy stayed crispy and everything was labeled. If only all delivery was so thoughtful. I am new to the area and my son and I were craving some Tex-Mex food. So, I found Tony's by using my handy dandy Yelp app. When we got the the restaurant they had a big sign that read, "Best margaritas in town." This alone had me dancing inside. So I sit down order my margarita, it comes out, I take a few sips, and almost immediately start getting a headache. The liquor was obviously cheap. I was thinking to myself-what happened to the best margaritas in town?! I called the waitress over and ordered a top shelf margarita instead-this time on the rocks. My top shelf margarita tasted like a watered down margarita. Such a fail. However, I did enjoy my meal. I ordered a cheese enchiladas with a half order of fajitas. With as many restaurants as there are in Katy I will probably not be back..... I can't go to a Mexican restaurant without having a margarita! read more
