The guy in charge here is very invasive and mean. I was absolutely speechless as to how to respond to his behavior. I had recently spent $1932 at another repair shop to have a catalytic converter put on my honda crv so I came here to Ray's for my routine smog($40). It failed due to drive pattern being incomplete. I returned 5 weeks later and failed again for same issue ($40). I was outside of 30 day windows for a free retest. Anyway, I then did a super complicated drive pattern and according to my diagnostic testing tool, my car was finally ready to pass smog! So I returned for the 3rd time, about a week after my second fail, and this time, my experience was HORRIFIC and left me in tears. I am scarred from the incident. The guy in charge said I had to come back the next day because they don't do retests after 4:00pm. It was no big deal as I hate to be that person! As I was leaving they called me back and said they changed their mind. I was so grateful at that point as I have been through so much already. He gets my car hooked up then calls me over and starts reminding me that the retest is a complimentary service. I wasn't sure what to say but I told him that I had paid for two smogs already that this is the only retest I've been here for. He wanted to see my receipts so I started looking. I informed him that I had just gotten a bunch of work done on my car and it should pass this time. That was a big mistake. Now he's hounding me about what work I got done and why I didn't come there to do it. I told him I didn't know they did work like that. He points up to a sign and says what do you mean you didn't know we do work? What are you doing here if you didn't know? I really didn't know what to say, except that I was confused and I didn't know you do catalytic converters here. He smacked my hood down and told his workers to get my car out of there and for me to come back tomorrow because I rolled my eyes at him. I didn't roll my eyes I was trying to keep the tears from falling. I was in shock and I was scared of him. As soon as he saw me cry he yelled at the guy and told him to bring my car back in. At this point I thought this man was unstable. He hooked my car up and was looking around in there and called me over again to tell me he was going to fail it again because he couldn't read the number of the catalytic converter. I was still crying I could not understand why he was doing this to me. I was trying to call the shop that put it on but they put me on hold. I just thought forget it I'm going to take my car out of here and drive over to the other shop and tell him what's going on and get any extra information I might need regardingthe catalytic converter. Ray said aren't you going to wait for a receipt? So I waited and waited while he typed and then wrote stuff down then typed again. He gave me my paper and it said he was unable to verify my catalytic converter and that it was going to require one hour of Labor in order to hoist it up in their garage and get the number off of it. Everything on my vehicle passed smog except he added to a visual inspection that catalyst was "tampered" with. This was not necessary. He used his own words to Red Flag my vehicle. I showed up at my regular shop and he told me that this guy is rotten. He said lately he's been really messing with people and upsetting them. I'm still in shock by this happening to me. If you knew me, I'm always very courteous and respectful to people. This guy was mad that I didn't pay them to do my repairs so now he's trying to charge me for 1 hour more of Labor. The reason I gave them 2 stars, is for his other employees. A few of them that have helped me including the younger kid especially, are some of the most kind people. That man does not deserve to have them working for him. Please don't go there. I've never dealt with a worse business owner. I've now been referred to J&S smog on Olympic Parkway in Grass Valley. Wish me luck that this red flag doesn't create me more problems that I don't deserve. I will call the the Better Business Bureau and complain. read more

this is a terrible shop. I would only recommend this place to my worst enemy. The owners are rude and full of themselves and give false leads. They will try to charge you for a diagnosis to read your catalist number, which is their job and they have to do for ALL SMOG TESTS, if they do not they are legally not doing their job and can pass or fail cars that do or do not meet criteria. I am speaking from personally experience and many others who have gone to these places. As a certified technician, I would never choose this place to do work unless you want to get robbed blind. read more

I took my truck here knowing it needed work to pass and that they do repairs. They told me it needed an EGR hose and that they couldn't get it so I should buy it online. I did and when I got the part called to ask when i can bring it in. The owner was very rude, told me I probably didn't have the right part (I definitely do) and to take it to another shop to get the small part installed. A huge inconvenience to take my car to multiple shops when this place claims to do repairs and advised me they could do the work. When I I tried to ask why he would turn me away after telling me to go get the part and bring it in the man on the phone hung up on me, and when I call back hung up two more times. I have 4 vehicles and am happy to pay for repairs as needed so another shop would be happy to have the business. read more

Josh the owner has great intregity and will always give me an honest diagnosis. I recently purchased a used car from him because I knew I could trust he would not sell me anything not tested and inspected. I have been coming here for almost 6 years maybe more. Quick, honest and they get it done. They are too busy for your feelings which is fine with me. I watched an elderly man pul in and look like his medication was off, was asked several times to put his vehicle in park, started rolling towards me which made me jump, rolls backwards still not putting it in park and then roll forward over the manager's foot. Unphased. Kept going and didn't make a big deal about it. Probably knew something was off. That is a freakin warrior. My father who is a disabled Army Veteran and is a local hero (stopped a mass shooting from occurring at the hospital in 2006) went in today to get his smog recheck completed one day late. Instead of politely explaining their policies they were rude to him. My dad then spoke with whoever was in charge about the bad customer service. Rather than addressing the issue they refused service to my dad after he drove 40 miles in a 35' RV to get the smog completed. I can't believe they would treat him like this. We went and got a SMOG check done a while ago now and brought our car in it failed the first check but when we did the retest and it passed the guy who helped us was extremely rude. We took the car elsewhere and he acted as if that was a personal transgression against him. Extremely unprofessional towards us after the fact. Also every response the owner has given out to these reviews is extremely unprofessional and rude. Arguing with customers experiences and trying to prove them wrong doesn't make me want to ever go back. It takes a lot for me to have a bad experience somewhere, however, this was a terrible one. I'm not one to write bad reviews on any business, because I am a small local business owner myself, but this one earned it. While a family member was having their vehicle smogged I pulled in to drop something off with them. This would have taken 30 seconds or less. As I exit my vehicle I am asked "can I help you?" quite aggressively. When I mentioned that I would be very quick and I was just dropping something off to someone (one of their paying customers), they very rudely told me I could not park in the parking lot and I must move my vehicle immediately. Mind you, there is no cars in the parking lot and mine is completely out of the way of anything going on in their parking lot. When I said "I'm literally dropping something off, it'll be very quick" he demanded again that I park somewhere else and that he didn't care. I'm not sure how a business can get away with being this unprofessional to friendly community members, but I know I won't be taking my business there. In the end, I wouldn't care if I was asked to move my vehicle across the street, but how difficult is it to just ask me politely instead of demand it rude and aggressively? read more

The owner swore at me multiple times and told me "get the fuck out of here," because I didn't understand what he was telling me to do. He said I didn't want to understand, Then called the police and I called as well. But I had signed the paper they give you when you first get there. So I was contractually obligated to pay for the failed smog. It was literally getting down there and wiping off the catalytic converters to read the number, which I did when I left with a paper napkin and a little water. He said they tried to wipe it but I tried and did it in about 30 seconds. This place is a scam unless everything is just a walk in the park for them. They don't want to help the consumer get a problem fixed they just want to scam people whenever they can. The epitome of small town bs. Please don't go there, don't support people like this. I've never written a review on anything but after this happens at 9 in the morning on a Tuesday. It was pretty triggering. I'm a very passive person unless you want to treat me with disrespect. The owner is a joke. I even tried to bite my tongue and say my bad for not understanding but I'm just trying to get this done. Dishonest, ill-mannered, rude and a filthy shop. Do yourself a big favor and stay as far as possible from this place. I didn't know any better and took my car to Ray's for a smog test. They tried to perform the smog test but said they couldn't perform the test because the check engine light was on. It wasn't on when I drove in. I couldn't figure out what happened until "Ray" or whatever the surly dude's name is, said he could track down the problem for $90/hour. When I ran the OBDII scan at home it gave an error for the fuel injectors and I found a disconnected wire. I have no proof that "Ray" disconnected it but the check engine light wasnt on when I took it in. If you look at the other reviews it appears as though these low-lives try a shake down everyone that comes thru there door. It may be the most disgusting business I ever visited in my life. read more
