This is the worst place to come. The owner is rude and is dishonest! I brought them my 1990 Toyota pickup it passed 2 years ago no problem. In fact I paid them to fix it 2 years ago. Now they failed it for modified fuel injection and pointed to the disconnected a/c parts and said it would be $90 to fix. I unhooked it myself and brought it back and they said it would just fail again unless I paid them to fix it. I will never Be back! read more

Only STAR certified smog check near me. They took in my car as soon as I arrived and I was done in probably about 10 minutes. The mechanic also pointed out two hoses that were deteriorating so I could replace them myself. Really appreciate the honesty. I will be going there next time. read more

Total scammers, avoid this place at all costs. I've never seen anything like them before, and I'm 34. They overcharge to inspect your car when a check engine light is on big time. Check it out, call other shops, Ray's is ridiculous with absolutely no justification except for that they are the first auto shop when you get off the highway in McKnight. They're also one of those shops that looks for problems, they don't look for ways to get you back on the road at a reasonable price. I ended up getting work done on my car somewhere else. I also got a smog check at Rays, my car passed the state digital inspection, but didn't pass their "visual" inspection. Which, from an observers standpoint, looked like a miner was digging for gold under my hood. I said okay, didn't get any work done at this shop again, and took it to another shop down the road for a smog test. Then something crazy happened - my car passed smog instantly at the second shop!! I wonder why? These guys are scammers, plain and simple. Go spend your money somewhere that the shop is honest, and cares about you and getting your car back on the road. read more

Dishonest. Avoid at all costs. If you own a vehicle older than 1996 you will most likely fail. Then have to repay for a retest. They do not honor free re test if you fail for 1996 and older cars. They are good at finding something that they can interpret as a reason to fail you so that they can get paid twice. I was failed for having an aftermarket air cleaner filter. Which I have had smog check done elsewhere with no issues. I had to pay them and then go to another smog shop and pay them again. Guess what it passed! That's mugshot said 96 and older you cannot fail for having aftermarket air filter. As I tell people about my experiences I keep hearing the same type of review about rays radiator and smog shop. I have a good friend who took his son's truck they were working on in to get pretested to see what they had to do They specifically asked not to run the smog but to do a pretest. Ray's proceeded to run the test anyway and give them a gross polluter status which gave them a time frame they had to get everything fixed. He was furious. Ray's Radiator is great. Don't listen to the bad reviews. These are people who are driving cars that won't smog and they blame the shop. I've had all my smog checks done here for years. The best kept secret is their mechanics. When no one else in town could fix my Mercedes they did. Fast and reasonable. I've passed this business for years (at the Corner of S. Auburn and McKnight Way), and what finally caught my eye was banner announcing the $40 for smog and $8 for cert. I took my 1986 F150 in there today and got an oil change and smog...all for $88. I had to pay a bit extra for more fluids they added, and because my truck called for 6 quarts, not the customary five for smaller vehicles. Price 6 qts of oil, plus filter, plus the hassle of a DIY oil change (and what to do with the old oil)...well worth it. I was really impressed with the inspection you get with the oil change (just under $30). With such an older vehicle (in pretty good shape), I was happy to get the "once over." It takes about an hr for an oil change because they do all the inspections, up on a rack, so be prepared to drop it off or bring a book. Overall, I was very happy with the service and how I was treated. They ran out of grease for the lube (part of the oil change), and told me to come back later today, or in the next few days (hey, those things happen in small businesses), and they'll knock it out . I had to leave, so I'll just drop by and get it taken care of. Very pleased. I have a minivan to smog, so I'll be back ! read more

Used to swear by this place. Took almost every vehicle I've owned in to be smogged here. I just recently bought a new truck and the previous owner smogged it (it did not pass) needed timing adjusted so I bought the truck, fixed the timing, and took it in to Rays where I had been going for years. They failed it for two separate reasons and marked it as "tampered" in the system and as a gross polluter. I was confused as to why one smog shop didn't even state that as a problem so I took it to another local shop and it passed without any issues. I really wouldn't be taking the time to write this review but this place is a joke. The employees don't want to hear it and walk away from you while you talk to them, or asking any questions. If they weren't such Richards I wouldn't have even bothered writing this. Hoping it saves someone a trip and some money. read more

I have never been treated so rudely by a business owner in my entire 70 years on the planet. I bought my RV in on the recommendation the RV dealership, to have Ray's test drive it and check out the drive train for me. The RV dealership said they would cover the expense. Sim, the owner, gave me a clipboard and a blank work order to fill out. I sat down to fill it out and he comes over and starts yelling at me that he is only going to check the vibration, that he is not going to do anything else, and he charges $250 an hour to do anything else. I ask him if, while he's driving it, he can also just listen for a squeak in the brakes - he cuts me off with more yelling before I can say - "and just tell me if you think it's a normal squeak." He yells at me that he can't do that because then he has to spend time figuring that out and he's not going to do anything but check the vibration. I said "I understand," and he just kept yelling at me. I asked nothing further and just said "I understand" over and over in between his yelling the same thing at me several times. When he kept yelling his troubled explanations at me, I finally said, "I said I understand. I'm not stupid." He walked away, and I continued to fill out the work order. I was describing my experience of driving the RV and what mph it vibrates the worst, and he came over and yelled at me about how he could tell that I was asking him to do too many things by how long it was taking me to write my description - he wouldn't even read what I had written. He just yelled at me some more about how many words I wrote down, and then he yelled at me that he would not work on my vehicle, and gave me back my keys. If you can get your work done elsewhere, I do not recommend having to deal with this guy. He has serious anger issues and isn't afraid to take out his frustrations on an old lady. (Full disclosure: After all of that, when I left, I said "you don't have to be such an a$$hole!" I texted him an apology for that when I got back home, and told him I've never been treated so badly by a business owner for no good reason.) read more

I did not appreciate the rude service I was dealt. I had heard from others how rude these guys get if you displease them. I am a senior citizen and they talked to me like a child. I dont hear as good as I used to and he yelled at me across the parking lot. I did not know he was talking to me or what he said. When he walked over to me he gave me a nasty lecture about how busy he was. I told him I was sorry and he said he didnt care and to take my vehicle elsewhere. I was so shocked by his conduct I left. I am very suspect about this place anyway. How come it only takes them 10 minutes and other places 20? I have talked about this to other shops about how quick they can turn a car around and they say it is likely they are not complying with the rules and found ways to beat the machine. I am not sure what other people's experience is at Ray's, but they have always done right by me. I have an old car that I commute with, and recently was faced with having to spend a lot of money to fix it. Josh asked me if I was planning on selling it. I told him "no, I just need to drive it to work and back." With that he fixed it for a lot less money! I think if I was going to sell it he would have insisted I spend more money, but I'm just an old guy with an old car, so he did me right. I'll go back to Ray's. Then tried to charge me 160 to diagnose the problem these guys are failing people so they can make more money trying to "fix" your car. They failed me so in a way that now I have to go back to them. Worst actual place I have ever walked into in my life. Horrible customer service. I received an old truck as a gift 4 years ago. The engine was all rebuilt. So i took my 60 bucks for a smog check to them because they were the closest to where i lived at the time.... I always try and support local businesses. They tried to tell me it would cost like 1500 to fix to clear smog. I'm like what!!! I went across town to the 76 station. Turns out a Wire was disconnected. Put the whole new wire in for 100 bucks and passed smog. THESE GUYS ARE TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE PEOPLE. They are selling cars on their property that are most likely the people that cant afford their supposed fees to clear smog. I was there four years ago. looks like nothing has changed. If you want quality of service this is not the place to go. Dude had a bad attitude from the get go. Customer service is non existent with this place. There are much better places Locally that treat customers with respect. AVOID Ray's AT ALL COSTS! I have been getting smog check here for about 4 years on 5 different cars with no problem. This time they said my timing was off and they could adjust it for $90. This was way high so I took it to my mechanic he made a slight adjustment and I went back to re-check. Now they said I was off the by more than before and failed me. I went back to my mechanic he said it is right where it should be. I then went to a different smog shop they also said it was right where it should be and passed me- he also said he has had people come to him from Ray's with this same story. I went back to Ray's and they gave me a run around etc. So in thinking about it this is a pretty good scam because most people are just going to want to get it done and not want to run around to different places. I've been taking my car to Ray's forever. they are polite, professional and knowledgeable. I just took my car in yesterday, which failed. my battery had been dead and they told me to do a drive cycle on it, which I did. then my check engine light came on. not ray's fault. the previously mechanic I took it to is at fault. they over filled my oil and tightend the oil plug so tight that it can't be undone! I'm taking my car back to said mechanic and having them fix, which will hopefully fix my smog problem. I just had a brand new valve job done on my car and have hardly driven it since last year. I have used Ray's Radiator for smogging all of my vehicles for the past 5 years and they are excellent, fast and professional. I took my daughters car in to them for an idiot light on the dashboard. One of the mechanics came over and plugged his meter into the cars computer and told me that the "trouble code" indicated three things, but to start with a new gas cap and that might correct the problem. He turned off the light off and he said if it comes back on to bring the vehicle back and they would schedule a date and time to fix the problem. I was in and out in less that 5 minutes and with no-charge! It has been two weeks and the idiot light has stayed off and all I had to do was replace the gas cap. These guys are truly the best! June 20, 2020 I took my son's 1997 Ford F150 to Ray's Radiator for a Smog Inspection. I met the owner (Sim Finou) and I felt comfortable when I met him. Sim promptly performed the smog inspection. The battery recently had been disconnected which caused the OBD system to fail the smog inspection. Sim's son (Josh ??) suggested that a drive-cycle be performed for a period of time on the engine. There is a scanner that is used during the drive cycle. The cost is approximately $90.00. Sim's son also suggested that I drive the truck for a period of time which might correct the OBD system problem. I drove the truck for a period of time as suggested. You have to use throttle control for speed and idle time for the drive-cycle. I drove the truck back to Ray's for re-inspection. The truck passed the smog inspection. Sim charged me for (1) inspection only. I found Sim Finou to be great owner and he knows what he is doing. I do trust him. I do not believe he is entitled to the negative reviews that have been generated.. When I see a negative review, I'm only reading one side to the story. I found Josh to be good guy with a great personality. I appreciated that he took the time to explain the problem with the smog inspection and he saved me money. The repair facility is old-school, I like it..I am over 80 years old. If you need a smog inspection, take it to Ray's Radiator. read more

We have been using ray's radiator for all of our vehicles for several years. They are honest and fast. They will identify problems and then tell us whether they are urgent or can wait a while. Our toyota truck has over 244,000 miles and rays keeps it running great. When my wife takes a vehicle here they don't try to take advantage of her lack of car knowledge. Very rare these days. Could not be happier with their fast efficient service on 4 cars now, and especially noting Sim's addressing the negative comments here. I have been warned beforehand a vehicle could fail and why before starting the process which is both ethical and reasonable. My old RV taken care of in under 30 mins by avoiding busy times and without an appointment? cannot beat that. This is my 4th encounter with them and they just get on and do their specialty without being sidetracked. Brief conversations with these guys always enjoyable except that any time I have seen them they have been working flat out to get cars out the door, Can't fault THAT and they stay cheerful and busy. Been going to Ray's for a few years. Oil changes & Smog tests. Just purchased a vintage Dodge 18 foot camper van and brought it in for SMOG test. Upon completion of test, right rear tire was just about flat. Since it was a new purchase to us, there weren't any tools aboard and it had been raining heavily. I offered to pay to have spare put on and was told to leave it for several hours. (This was a 15 minute job) I realize It's not the establishments fault hat we did not have another way to get home & there's no need to say how the rest of the day went after leaving with the flat. I was told by some friends that Ray's was the place to go for getting my car smogged! I pulled in and was greeted by a very polite guy....he gave me a clipboard to fill out my info and told me to have a seat. I got done in about 5 minutes and was just getting ready to pull out my phone and my car was done! I paid, was told that they sent a copy to DMV....and I was on my way.....all this within 10 minutes! I took my van in for a smog check and was told it would cost twice the normal amount because part of the engine is accessed from inside the car and a cover has to be removed for this. This was not unexpected as I have run into this previously. The smog took quite a bit longer than every other car that stopped by for a smog but again, I figured this was due to the cover issue. Once I had paid and was ready to leave, I noticed that the parking brake light was on. I went to release the brake and realized the parking brake wasn't engaged. I engaged it and then released it and still the light stayed on. I tried this several times and the light stayed on. This had never happened before and so I asked one of the employees about it. He came over and engaged and released the brake himself and the light still stayed on. He then opened the hood, looked inside and said sorry he didn't know. I explained the brake light had been working fine before the smog check and now it wasn't. I asked if it was necessary for them to go anywhere near the wiring or sensors for the brake light to do the smog check and he replied that they don't touch any of that. I said it seemed suspicious that now the light wasn't working and he replied that he agreed but those coincidences happen. He offered to diagnose the problem (but not for free). I said I wasn't going to pay for that and he shrugged and walked off. I have no choice but to give them the benefit of the doubt but I felt it was necessary to share this in case "coincidences" like this happen often at this shop. read more

A couple of stories....Had my radiator replaced in my Dodge Ram diesel truck. Paid my bill and left. Went to the store and came back out in the parking lot and there was anti-freeze running out from under the truck. Before I lost it all, I drove back to Ray's. We opened the hood and there was a mechanic's hood support left there and it fell into the new radiator and punctured it. The mechanic said it was his fault and that he could get a new radiator for the next morning. The owner came out and was horrified what had happened. He immediately called a few sources, found a new radiator, and stayed late until it arrived and was installed. He drove me back to work and then picked me up when the truck was ready. I know accidents happen and I'm sure this one will never be repeated. I was impressed how fast the owner reacted and fixed the wrong. One other quick story, I needed a smog check and called on a Saturday not knowing they are normally closed then. He said he was working on his own personal car, but that I could come in and he would smog it for me. He charged me his normal low price and had me out of there in no time.
