Used Rays twice for related jobs. Return calls are spotty and depends how busy they are (if they have other jobs they aren't calling you back - if they are slow they will follow up about possible work you discussed). First - I will agree with another reviewer it is hard to get companies to respond to smaller iron work needs, so we were happy to have Rays do the job. However, the first job was to fix our building iron gate because it fell off the hinges and they added a mesh screen to a heightened add on to the top of the fence we had added a couple years back (which likely is why it fell off the hinges). Once fixed the lock alignment was off and didn't catch strongly. They said if we had issues to call back (didn't offer to come back and make stronger). Sure enough the lock stopped catching a few months down the road. Rays gladly came to look at it and charge to fix even though they didn't fix the lock properly the first time and offered to come back (for a fee). They also suggested a full gate replacement, which we didn't agree with and declined. Had them look at fixing back stairs and they said we needed to replace all stairs. (Declined). We also needed some tuck-pointing and roof work around that time so we had him look since he said they do that type of work, too, and they were expensive and not as good of fixes as other companies we had quotes from. We declined this work as well. We didn't want to go through the hassle of trying to find another iron work company so we had them fix. But again, it still didn't catch great which they attributed to needing a full gate replacement. Found Trejos Iron Works later on to fix lock properly & fix existing iron posts rusting at the base, at a more reasonable price, responsive, professional and didn't try to upsell to a much more costly job. Rays gets the job done and will follow up. But work is not as great as 2 other companies we used and tried to upsell on work to be done. read more

We are beyond SATISFIED with Ray's work. He recently completed a gate project for us that we've been wanting for years. Our yard looks so peaceful now with our "new" gate. Wrought iron fence repair must be the best business in Chicago, b/c Ray Flores was the SIXTH business I called in an attempt to get my gate fixed. The first five either didn't respond at all, or flaked out on me after a few emails back and forth. Admittedly, mine was a small job, but still. I needed my gate fixed. Ray came out to look at my gate with me then emailed me a quote. Because it was a small job, it took him a few weeks to get out to my place (he explained that he usually does all the small jobs in one day). Throughout he stayed in touch over email. HIs crew came out on a Saturday and finally fixed what no one else could be bothered to do. Price was very fair, and was even $800 less than the only other quote I could extract from bigger operations. Definitely recommend Ray, especially for smaller jobs. I had a wrought iron gate that was not locking. I called a local company 8 blocks away they said would be out same day or next day. No show no I called Ray's company which is like 8 miles away and he came the next day, very professional. Called me right away with quote. While asking for quote I also mentioned putting in a 4 unit mail box on my wrought iron fence and putting covers over locks to help with moisture. Gave me quote right away and did all the work when he said he would. Also he noticed an issue that I was not even aware of with one of the gates and repaired at no extra charge. Ray from Ray's welding is great! My porch railings were completely rusted through where the bottom attaches through the concrete. Ray and his team built "shoes" to re-attach the railings. Ray quoted a price and stuck to it. My job was small and not convenient. Ray was willing to add it in. I had to wait a reasonable amount of time to be "fit in" but he was super clear that he would not drop me or forget about it. True to his word! The work they did is professional and durable. It looks great. The most impressive trait Ray brings is that he is creative! My project had one spot where the concrete was so degraded, a work-around was necessary. Ray recently repaired my front gate which needed a bigger strike plate and re-welding of the hinges that were loose. He came out the day after I contacted him and finished in one hour. He was very professional and my gate now looks like the original gate right out of the factory. Ray quoted very reasonable prices on three jobs he completed in one afternoon. He fashioned a missing metal bar (to match existing bars) for our front staircase and installed it as well as a bar I have been meaning to have replaced since we bought the house. He replaced a missing finial on our wrought iron fence, matching it to existing finials. And he refurbished an existing gate, adding wood slats for privacy. Couldn't be more pleased! Ray is a little hard to get a hold of, but once you do, they do a great job. We had all of our wrought iron repainted and some welding work done. They worked efficiently and the finished product looks great. They even offered to come back in a couple of months and do some touch up work and delivered on that promise. This is a belated review, but Ray designed and installed burglar bars for the first floor/side windows of my single family home at the end of 2012 -- and they have held up beautifully. They were very affordable, and also, WAY more attractive than your run of the mill burglar bars -- he took a picture of my wrought iron fence gate and made them to match. Very prompt and affordable.
