This was the perfect stop for subs. My husband and I were heading to the beach today and wanted to grab subs on our way, and wow it was so good. We got the Basic B (turkey sub) and Italian sub and both were great. The turkey sub had really great havarti cheese on it, and the turkey itself was amazing. The only thing I wish it had was something that gave it a little kick. I know they had some additional toppings you could add on, so if you're wanting your sandwich to have a kick, I would take a look. The Italian sub was absolutely amazing. You could tell the meats were very high quality, and I loved the spice the sub had on it. My husband and I both agreed this was the best Italian sub we had ever had! My only downside to this place was the parking. We had to pay $15 to park, and while this might be typical for this area, I thought that was pretty high. It is one of the best sandwich shops in Kona located at the Kona Market Place. I had the Pop Drop & Lock It sandwich and it was amazingly flavorful it was huge and it came with a whole pickle, not a half a pickle, but a whole pickle! We walked from our condo for 20 minutes after seeing some good reviews on Yelp. We had called and got a machine, which should have been a red flag and had looked at their website. I just picked up a butcher box filled with ALL LOCALLY SOURCED meat!! I love that they offer this because it's so important to know where our meat is from and how the animals were raised/cared for. I was very disappointed with the way they handled a first time customer; girls were extremely rude and impatient. I wasn't familiar with their menu and after a few seconds I was sarcastically asked.....DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT! Yes shocked I should have walked out however I really have been looking for an awesome Italian Sub. I do have to say the only plus is they do present a nice meat deli section, I politely asked if they could toast my too and abruptly said NO unfortunately their bread sucks it dissolved and your left holding a bunch of soggy lettuce. Well, that just made me go to work at home and I nailed it 1000% on my own homemade crunchy Italian sub. We live here, have now picked up sandwiches at RC Kona two times and have been exceedingly pleased each time. The Ruben sandwich was excellent. The Italian sub was authentic (this coming from someone who grew up a few miles from Philadelphia). Tonight was the roast beef and Roquefort sandwich which again was perfect for me (but don't do if you don't love Roquefort as it's the real thing) and the turkey Basic for my husband. Love that you can order just a half sandwich, since the full sized are very generous. Cheese cake was also awesome! Called our order in and it was ready quickly for pick up. Parking (paid but maybe if you are quick for pick up...) and a patio area behind the venue. This is a great addition to our Kona town! read more

This is really a deli, this is not a butcher shop. No meat counter to see what you are buying. No ability to say I want those two steaks at the back or the smaller ones in the front etc. etc. it appears all their fresh meat is cut up, packaged and frozen. You are buying on faith a little bit. RC Kona is an edgy little deli tucked into the back of a small shopping center. The first thing I spot when I walk in is Wylie Dufresne's cookbook and the owner instantly has my respect. That and because of their risqué decor and the fact that they are playing jazz on a record player. I didn't want to just take my sandwich to go, but wanted to hang out and enjoy the vibe. The sandwiches are build your own style, but they typically have a daily special of something outrageous and delicious. You just have to ask. They are solid. Made with homemade local bread and fresh ingredients. The salads are generous portions and balanced ingredients. Oh yea, there is a small butcher shop inside. This place is Ono. I heard about it from a friend and went to check it out (I'm obsessed with sandwiches). I was greeted by Grace and Alessandra (sp? sorry). We didn't know what to get and they gave us samples and recommended options based on our likes. We got two sandwiches and they were HUGE (could have shared one) and SO GOOD. We walked to the ocean and ate them. Perfect afternoon (and it didn't break the bank). Lastly, we had their cheesecake and it was incredible. They were quick to shout out the person who makes it (I don't remember off of the top of my head), but it was amazing. We have the name saved for our wedding cake (not kidding, so fricken good). These guys hustle and you can tell by the product they have. 10/10 read more

Bread appears to be fresh and all the wonderful toppings. Not sure if they validate for parking but would be nice to go in and order vs ordering via phone. Found this place when I visited the Big Island a couple of years ago and now it's a must stop whenever we visit. The sandwiches are truly where it's at. The Heartstopper, Basic B****, or Italian Paradise have been our go to this trip. As for the butcher side, they really try to have locally sourced product with the best quality. I wanted to try out their food since I saw their amazing reviews on Yelp. When I walked in, there were a couple of females talking to the two workers about "salads". I patiently waited while they chatted about salads. While I was waiting, no one greeted me and no one asked me if I needed any help. After listening to them chat about salads for five minutes, I finally approached the lady at the counter that was not very engaged in their conversation. I asked her if I can make an order. For some reason, she looked annoyed. When I made my order, she asked me what kind of cheese I would like. When I asked her what kind of cheese they had, again, she looked annoyed while she read the list of cheese on the screen. I am sure I am not the only customer that did not notice the list of cheese on the bottom right corner of the menu. While she was making my sandwich, the couple (talking about salads) never made an order, gave the workers their business card, then left. They paid more attention to them and they didn't even buy anything. Three more females walked in while my sandwich was getting prepared. The two workers greeted all three females. When I left, I realized I have never felt that uncomfortable ordering a sandwich at a restaurant before. I don't care how good their food is, I will never come back there. My wife and I loved RC sandwiches. Excellent turkey, fresh shredded lettuce and tomatoes, and a delicious bun. And I like the Italian dressing on my sandwich. Went back the morning of our flight back to Los Angeles to get two sandwiches to eat before our flight. They cost the price of one meal at the airport restaurant, and far more tasty. AND, they have these delicious chocolate chip cookies made in Hilo, they are the bomb. Alessa and Grace are amazing, so cheerful and helpful.
