Located in the old Sack N Save, Reuse Hawaii is located in Salt Lake, this is a great store that supports reducing waste and saving materials that may have been on its way to the landfill. I didn't have any thing to donate, but they do take various types of building materials, secondhand furniture, electrical/plumbing, etc, that can refurbish and resell in their store. The people there are very friendly and knowledgeable, they also recently opened a tool library where you can rent the tools at a membership rate: $20 for a month, $50 for 3 months, $150 for annual, with a discount of 10% for students, seniors, and the elderly. So if you are need of just second hand furniture or even a slabs to make a table, I suggest giving them a try and coming down to their store. You never know what you may find. read more

I used to go to the Reuse near Pier1 all the time. I a glad that they moved close to my home. The news location seems to be bigger and more organized. I went recently to refresh my mind on what they offer. You kinda have to get lucky here and find something that you can utilize. Lot's of obsolete stuff and furniture and fixtures from hotels. They even have unfinished wood for furniture makers. It us worth stopping by because you may run into something rare and unique that you can utilize. read more

New location of Reuse Hawaii for all your used and donated DIY and crafting needs if you have the time and skill. Helpful place to find items that may help with your next project. Save the environment and take your pick of some household items. Some items are more expensive than I expected though for being very used. For example, several of the chairs would need new upholstery and cost more in the long run compared to just buying a new chair. The "nice" ones were close to $100 which I found to be too expensive for a used chair. We wanted to see the new location to see if they had any items we might want to help furnish our place, but we didn't come home with any purchase. LWould be helpful if you had a truck or bigger vehicle. Plenty of parking and busy on a Saturday. read more

Lots of free parking and lots of selection of gently used furniture and box springs and supplies like windows, paint, cabinets, lumber, flooring, and appliances. They have a free section as well. Restrooms are located to the right after entering. They are single stall restrooms and are clean and spacious. The women's restroom had a changing table but it looked locked up for some reason. The floor space is very spacious and well organized! Prices seem very reasonable--I was surprised at how affordable the furniture was. PARKING: Free in the lot, it's the old Sack n Save store, next to the old K-Mart. PRODUCTS: They are a nonprofit so they are priced to move, not priced to profit. They have contracts with hotels to haul out their old furniture, pictures, wall art, lamps, chairs, etc. They also have deconstructed homes, so old window frames, desks, sinks, lumber, etc. Outside they have an entire section of old tile, lumber, jalousie windows, etc. TIP: If you are curious, go on a day when you have that wandering spirit, you never know what you can find. This is SUPER expensive for a reused... recycle store. Its mostly junk. Like ripped dining chairs for $25 each. Rotten wooden doors, cracked, chipped for $50. I was honestly shocked. Some cool vintage stuff for like $500+ lol. Its a giant warehouse and its nicely organized. Lots of space. But man I don't know anyone who would be buying at these prices. You could get new for these prices! They had a used, beat up ice maker for almost $2,000 on sale for $1500. Lol what a joke. Honestly I wish more of these thrift and reuse stores were priced appropriately to the market. I did see a used dirty extension cord for $1. I bought a new one for $3 at Walmart yesterday so I guess that was priced well. But does it even work? And is it worth the drive? Nope. read more

I've been going here for atleast 5 years or so. I hope we are able to keep this place open. The concept is like Goodwill and Salvation Army, but for construction materials. For any of my small projects I generally go here first if I need some sort of wood /lumber or maybe a shelf. Its much cheaper than going to Lowes or Home Depot and it keeps the useable materials out of landfills and the ocean. The parking lot is a bit challenging to find if it's your first time. You have to just keep on driving behind the Medical School, until you hit the dead end, and it's inside the chain link fence gates on the right. Its a good place to get materials if you know what your doing. For the rest of us, meh. It seems like a huge Salvation Army or Goodwill for contractors though. It was a little dirty for me but what can you expect. I would recommend wearing closed toe shoes and maybe not a great place to bring your kids, but thats on me. Their original premise was keeping de-constructed home debris out of the landfill and they certainly do a great job of that. On a recent trip I was looking for replacement light switches and was pleasantly surprised to find a box of new switches for a bargain $0.20 each. They also get in reclaimed wood from trees as well. This time, they had silver button wood logs so I had to try a piece. It's a very dense wood. On a weekly basis their inventory changes to reflect their most recent saves, It's nice to see new and exotic wood items, as well as one-of-a-kind fixtures from older homes for sale. Overall, it's a great concept and a great place to come and browse and support a local small business. They also house the HNL Tool Library, incase you need to buy or rent a tool you don't have. What's great about ReUse? Tiles! Shopping for tiles can be a pretty expensive ordeal, especially when you're purchasing from Home Depot or Lowe's. And even more so if you're renovating your bathroom. Those mosaic shower tiles are expensive! Cost the same to tile the entire floor of your living room and bedrooms. Luckily, Re-Use has a large variety of tiles that's most helpful for bathroom renovations because you don't need a lot tiles. All the tiles they receive are donations or extra materials from renovations, so there's wouldn't be enough to tile an 800 sq ft condo, but a 60 sq ft bathroom will do! Tile 6'' or less is only 10 cents each! I found tile here that were selling at Home Depot at 8 times the price. Paint is another item Re-Use carries a lot. All the paint here are as close to new as you can get. For me, if it's a nice color, then why not? I don't want to spend time looking at 250 shades of blue. Overall, Re-Use definitely "cleaned up" the place. More organized, open, clean, and with better items. An excellent place to get what you need at a fraction of the cost. read more

They can do magic! Due to some bathroom door mishap, my door handles locked up and we need to break my apartment's door to get me out of the bathroom. Not how I want to remember my relaxing Hawaii vacation Since the door is broken, we need to find a replacement for it. Unfortunately, the door size is custom, so it was almost impossible trying to find its replacement. We brought the door to Reuse and they suggested to just fix the old door. Yes, a great place if you know what you are looking for. Just picked up a bunch of ceramic plates from what we assume was an out of business restaurant (so sad). Only 50 cents a piece and they work great on our patio for potted plant drainage. These guys can be very expensive if you seek unusual and collectible stuff too. I paid $1500 for an original bronze claw footed 1920's vintage bath tub that had original oak trim, all original copper plumping from Chicago Faucet (extremely high quality without a drip after 100 years), but had a rusty bottom and needed stripping and replacement of ceramic coatings. When all was finished, this turned into a $2k bathtub. We live in a 100 year old home and this tub is such a perfect fit. Nevertheless, not for one of the ultra modern high rise places in Kakaako. Also, we have purchased other hard to find items like old growth timbers from the original (now deconstructed) Ward Warehouse which make fantastic pedestals for our art collectibles. Nice store, used to be in a 'rough neighborhood' , but now much nicer (I think being next door to the UH Medical School helped get our politicians to do something to clean things up (unfortunately, probably just moved elsewhere...). read more

We had a bad experience when trying to donate file cabinets. We called ahead of time and asked if they would accept file cabinets, and they said yes as long as it was in good condition and they were. They just asked us to come before 4:30pm. So we took about an hour to load everything into two vehicles and drive to the Reuse location, and we arrived there at 3:30pm. When we arrived, we talked to the lady there and she said they are not accepting file cabinets at that time. She didn't really effectively explain to us why they wouldn't accept the donation but it sounded like they didn't have space. So my wife and I told them we just called them and they said to bring everything down. They should have told us on the phone that they were not accepting items like what we had. The lady didn't even look at what we brought. The experience was a waste of time and gas for us, and they did not try to help us at all. I will not be donating any items to Reuse Hawaii because they do not tell people the correct information on the phone and I would not want to waste any more time due to miscommunication or misinformation from their organization. Wow! I've heard of this handyman's mega warehouse but have never made the journey downtown to check it out until today. What an amazing variety of home improvement items from lumber to roofing materials, dishwashers, refrigerators, stoves, sinks, cabinets, to doors galore! Then there's the mix of hardware items, shelving, tiles, drills, trimmers, light fixtures the list goes on and on. Flower pots and other outdoor items. Inventory is always changing. They also have a unique tooling library where you can volunteer and get to utilize the large in housework shop or borrow any of the vast inventory of hand tools, carpenter saws, table saws, drills, trimmers, mowers to do your home projects! This place is a handyman's do it yourself bargain place! Today I spent a whopping $3.60 to do a small shelling project and grab a bamboo soap dish for the bathroom! Sad to be writing this about re-use Hawaii but if you buy something from them through their website online~ they may still sell it in store before you can pick it up. I purchased a table yesterday after seeing it available on their Instagram story. I asked them if it was available on Instagram and they said yes and sent me a direct link to purchase. I bought the table right away and received a receipt for the purchase. I live in Kaneohe so picking it up the next day in the morning with my partner was our plan. When I showed an employee an image of the table~ me and the employee went to search for the table on their floor ~ and it could not be found. Another employee said they saw it "walk off". I asked if it had already been sold and the employee said it shouldn't have but it has happened in the past. Everyone was very concerned and nice as they searched their records and tried to find out what happened to the table... only to find that the online sales and the in store sales are not in the same place so someone had bought the table in store an hour after I had already purchased it. Please fix your online system re-use Hawaii ~ especially if you are to continue advertising online directly to customers who plan to pick up in store (literally the next day). I was very upset to find that the table I had been searching for a long time and purchased, was sold to someone else because of this error in the system. First time checking out this place. It was actually recommended by some architects I know in the past. As the title suggests these are all reused recycled building items. Wish I had a backyard and a pickup truck. They had some cool materials to use. A wide assortment of fixtures, tiles, wood etc. if you work with wood at all or even do any type of sculpture or furniture marking this place is a goldmine. Also they have some older pieces of furniture and shelving that are pretty unique and need some TLC. But you can easy take items cut them down, stain, customize and yield beautiful results with some imagination.
