Knowledgeable staff, friendly, local. Always a good experience coming here. This is where I go to for my indoor furniture lumber. I dont know anywhere else where u can get s4s 2x4s, 2x6s, 2x2s. This location in particular, Hawaiian braddah with the manbun hooked it up and cut a piece a wood for me for free. Thanks and I appreciate it.

Weekend project for Mother's Day. Thanks Hardware Hawaii for all your help!

Exceptional staff and very helpful even though I ended up not buying anything. There prices can be a bit higher than the chain hardware places BUT they have pretty much any type of wood you need that they other places won't. I built something for the Missus for Mother's Day and went to every possible place including Re-Use and this was the only place that had everything. The wood I wanted costed nearly $500.00 and the guy in the lumber department was nice enough to price out everything and print out receipts for various woods to find a more affordable option. Eventually I went back to the chain store but Hardware Hawaii still helped me to figure it all out even knowing I wasn't going to buy from them. I plan on coming here more often to give them my business as much as possible as places like this deserve it. Great friendly knowledgeable staff. Thanks for all your help.

Tale of the 10 minute lawnmower:…read more Purchased a Toro Recycler 22" 150cc Personal Pace auto-drive lawnmower with a 3 year "Guaranteed to Start" warranty - Briggs & Statton engine (Literally labeled "Guaranteed to Start" on TOP of the mower) for $499 + tax. Got it home and the lawnmower ran for 10 minutes. Dumped the clippings into a garbage can for my mulch pile and it wouldn't start. (Luckily, I still had my old mower and finished with that.) Took it back to Ace the NEXT DAY after purchase and requested a refund. They said they would have their mechanic look at it. I received a call from the mechanic who said he checked the oil, gas, and air filter and that he got it to run for 10 minutes and that the lawnmower worked perfectly and that I should come pick it up. I said that I know it will run for 10 minutes. However, their "Guaranteed to Start" lawnmower won't restart after 10 minutes and that I wanted a refund because I don't expect to pay $500 for something that doesn't start after 10 minutes. He said that it works as designed and that I should come pick it up. - So, it's designed to start, run for 10 minutes and then not be able to use it again? I'm not sure how other people mow their lawns, but I've never mowed my lawn for only 10 minutes a day, and when something says it's "Guaranteed to Start" I expect it to start again after dumping the grass clippings from the bag. I also don't have space at my house to keep 10 lawnmowers so I can mow the entire lawn at one time, (not to mention the required $5,000 investment to do so.) So as of now Ace has the 10 minutes lawnmower with the receipt, but won't issue a refund for the return. I contacted Toro who said I would need to ship it to their Service Center with the original receipt for inspection before they would discuss my cost of repair for "Warranty" work. You know... typical after you use their product for 10 minutes. Maybe the $6 worth of parts are covered but shipping, mechanics time, etc. is on the purchaser. I don't expect to pay $200 to repair something I JUST PURCHASED as BRAND NEW. If you've gotten this far: - This location is super convenient, and the staff (with RARE exception) has always been SUPER friendly and helpful - including the mower mechanic who called me. Even when they didn't stock what I was looking for. Lots of good things to say... EXCEPT when it comes to the "10 Minute Mower".

Today it was a simple just some acetone as I wanted to wipe off paint and the basic store bought stuff just won't do it and as small as this shop seems to be they do have it all and was very easy to find than the larger ones as it literally took me a minute to find it and a minute to reach to the register without a wait and was on my way faster than taking the needed pics to show off this great Kailua location. If needed staff is very easy to find here but as I knew exactly what I wanted it was okay and parking in the back is spacious with short walks to the automatic doors is just nice to have a quick spot to find exactly what you need without being lost as I finished my project so easily. Shout out to Kayli for all her help last night…read more So the other day I was cooking dinner for my dad & when I went into his refrigerator, I noticed it didn't seem that cold? But when I checked the freezer, it appeared that it was working properly. I asked my dad if the fridge was okay? And he in turned told me that it was, so I really didn't think anything more of it. Several days later, after shopping for some food for my dad, when I was putting some produce items into his fridge, I again asked him if the refrigerator was okay, then he finally told me "maybe something was wrong". I rechecked the settings on the refrigerator, rechecked the vents from the freezer, seals on the door, and everything appeared to be okay. Being that my dad's refrigerator was 11 years old (I remembered buying it in 2014), I guess it was time for a replacement. Luckily for me, November has rolled around and since a lot of folks will be feasting towards the end of November, "Black Friday" sales have started & Home Depot has their big "Black Friday" sales event for the entire month of November. At first I went to Best Buy, because I purchased the refrigerator & stove from there back in 2014, but upon arriving there, I couldn't get any help so I left the store & headed across the street to Home Depot. Upon lookin' at the fridges, I found a fridge that would fit in my dad's kitchen space & looked for a clerk to help me. Luckily I came across Kayli, and she was so helpful in processing my transaction. Timing was just right for me, as the delivery of the refrigerator was FREE due to the Black Friday sales, and I only had to pay $50 bucks for the removal of the old refrigerator. The refrigerator I purchased was in stock, so Saturday they will deliver it to our house. How's that for great service???!!! Much MAHALO Home Depot, and Kayli! You really helped us out of jam, as I realky needed a running refrigerator, especially since Thanksgiving is just around the corner!

Founded in 1899 by…read moreChun Kun Ai, there are presently 8 locations: Honolulu, Kaimuki, HI Kai, Kaneohe, Mililani, Pearl City, Waianae, and Ewa Beach. Chung Kun Ai was its president until 1961; then his youngest son, David managed it until 1991; and now David's son, Steven, serves as President and Chairman, assisted by his sister, Carol Ai May. City Mill HI Kai opened in 1993. It currently sells furniture, lumber, building materials, key making, propane refill, paint, jalousie cutting, electrical, tools, plumbing, window screen service, and more. How did it get its name? Prior to WWII, Chung Kun Ai owned the only rice mill in HNL and the largest in HI; hence, the name City Mill. After the war, City Mill focused mainly construction materials, but kept its name. While it cannot compare with the size of the big box retailer hardware stores and may be a little more in cost, we shop at city Mill due to the following reasons: * Local expertise and service. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable with the local unique needs and can offer advice and guidance on projects that must meet local building codes. While there were periods of staff shortages during and after Covid, we've found staff in their red aprons to be very helpful. For specialized projects and making of keys, hubby tends to ask older employees or seasoned workers, as they seem to know more and appear to focus on details. And when I was browsing through the aisles, several red-apron dressed staffed asked if I needed any help. Nice! * Community focus. City Mill partners with local community organizations and provides donations based on request. Via the Chung Kun Ai Foundation City Mill has given back to University of HI agricultural programs, Palama Settlement, Food Bank, churches, scholarships, and more. * Convenient locations. With 8 stores across Oahu, City Mill offers convenient access for residents and saves time and gas to having to commute to the big box retailers. * Curated selection. While City Mill's inventory is not as diverse and expansive as the big box retailers, its product selection is carefully chosen to meet the needs of homeowners. If you're undecided on what you're looking for, it's a good starting place to see what is available. They even have educational toys and inflatable pools (seasonal). City Mill also carries some of the home storage containers and kitchenware that new venture that the Ai Family started called Simply Organized in Kahala Mall. The layout of the store is well organized. * In-store pick up and delivery. Online ordering with in-store pickup and delivery make it easier to get its product. They also use the latest technology to track their inventory. * Community events. City Mill's Facebook page features events and promotions that highlight their products and connect with the local community. There are garden expos for demos and meet vendors, Father's Day Keiki workshop, anniversary specials, how-to workshops, product expos, hurricane preparedness, and more. * Energy efficiency focus. City Mill has partners with HI Energy to promote energy-saving products and rebates, such as water-saving tips. Hours of operation are daily from 7a to 7p. Located in the ewa end of HI Kai Towne Center anchored by Costco, Ross Dress for Less, and McDonalds, lots of free parking available that are shared by its tenants. As City Mill is by itself, parking is always available, esp when you have to purchase bulky items. You can use a separate exit when purchasing garden supplies or lumber. It is assuring to have a City Mill a couple of miles from my home! No need to spend unnecessary time and gas to drive to town to a big box retailer! And with helpful customer service, City Mill provides us with our home improvement needs. Support local!
