We were referred to Pacific American Lumber (PAL) by our GC to pick out a laminate finish for something he was going to fabricate for us. He told us that they have a vast selection and we should be able to find what we want. If we couldn't find it, he said they could order it but it could take weeks to arrive so he nudged us to go ASAP. We went as soon as our schedule allowed for it and surprisingly PAL was very easy to find. They have a private lot with ample parking. The staff here is very friendly and we were greeted almost immediately. Everyone was quite nice and assisted us from selecting the design we were looking for to rolling up the 4 x 8 sheet to put into our vehicle. The whole process was seamless. We found one finish that we were looking for but unfortunately the other finish we wanted was not available. If they had it, we would have purchased that from them too. Very reasonable pricing and we highly recommend them when looking for building supplies, kitchen, bathroom and flooring. read more

We came across this business through friends and we are so thankful. Pacific American Lumber on Mokauea Street carries products for home repair and remodeling. We called and made an appointment with Shelby Frank and told her that we were looking for a solid surface for our shower and countertops. At our appointment, Shelby was very helpful with providing information about the Staron solid surface line colors and patterns. She provided samples and even showed us whole sheets so that we could see the entire patterns that you can't see on a small sample. This helped us tremendously in deciding which colors to choose. DJ is amazing salesman, knows everyone on the island and can help you find the product you are looking for. This is the place where professional floor installers shop! They will also help individuals doing flooring projects. They stand by their product. My adhesive was accidentally damaged in transit by the freight company. It was a pleasure working with Shelby at Pacific American Lumber. I was searching for some solid surface countertop material for my home renovation and stumbled across them. Prices were extremely reasonable, delivery was free, and customer service was top notch. Shelby kept me up to date on when my product would arrive on island, when it would be at their warehouse, and when it could be delivered. Be warned! We purchased around $10,000 worth of flooring from these guys. Within a month of installation it began to separate. To be fair, the company did try to work with the manufacturer to get this straightened out, but once the manufacturer said they were not going to help, Pacific American Lumber bowed out. They even stopped replying to our emails. So, we're stuck with a floor that is worse than the one we replaced. This was a purchase we saved for several years to make. There was no warning prior to our purchase that this flooring would not work in our home. So, those of you that live in a home were you don't run the AC 24x7, be warned and watch out, Pacific American Lumber does not stand by their products, and you could be out big bucks, like us! read more

This place has a huge inventory of wood....I searched all over town for wood flooring to "patch" a section of my kitchen floor. One of the places suggested I try PAL. Fortunately I got to talk with Brian who is amazing....very "cute" by the way, married and still very cute. Big handsome guy who is very knowledgeable about his products..nuff about cute. Brian was kind enough to show me what he had and made excellent suggestions on how I could accomplish the patch. Although they no longer carried exactly what I needed, he did find an alternative which I purchased and it worked very well! I was running errands and happened to drive by their office / showroom on Mokauea St. I walked in their office and was greeted by John. John was extremely professional, polite, and helpful. He answered all of my flooring questions (home remodel) and was very patient with me (I know nothing about flooring, install, etc). I will admit I am not the easiest customer - I am particular, a perfectionist and indecisive. I went back and fourth several times on the floor design and materials I wanted. Great customer service For working at a hardware store T and I didn't know what we were looking for... Corey spotted us at the door and asked us if we needed help and we sure did..... We didn't know what type of wood we was looking for. Corey showed us what type of wood would match our piece of wood. We was in there really fast, the guys there are really helpful. Great place with an excellent variety of flooring choices to choose from. We checked out several Oahu flooring outlets, and wanted good quality at a good price for our choice of engineered wood flooring. I had seen a neighbor's solid wood flooring buckle and warp after a significant water accident, so we wanted the improved stability of engineered (layers) wood flooring, which also handles Hawaii's humidity better. Engineered also has a factory finish already installed, which is often better than the finishes installed after installation. And it is REAL wood which you can always tell, as compared to laminate or vinyl. I must admit we did not visit here first, as Pacific American's web site makes it appear as if they're real fancy folks who just cater to rich people who already know what they want (my faulty impression). But when we arrived that first time, we were greeted in a friendly manner by the office staff downstairs off the warehouse, then escorted upstairs to their showroom of wood choices. Joseph Pozo greeted us and helped us, as we looked at the zillion choices. We zero'd in on Koa and monkeypod, and ultimately chose the Ua Floors monkeypod for its beautiful variety and colors. Cost was maybe $12K for our 1200 square foot job, or about $10 per square foot. Add around $8K for the installation by our contractor and you know what the total was. I compared that to the cost of installing top quality carpet with a good pad, and the cost was within $3K, and as we got sick of always dirty carpet that faded and buckled and smelled... Wood was a no brainer for us. Now let's see if I can figure out how to load a picture of the floor... Good luck with your flooring project! read more

I came in and was immediately greeted by Joe and Nancy. I was looking for a specific flooring supply (18 gauge cleats) that they unfortunately don't carry. However, Joe went out of his way to call the Home Depot in Kapolei (Honolulu HD didn't have it) and spent almost 10 minutes navigating the prompts, getting to a service rep, helping them find the specific cleats and put them on hold at the Service Counter for me. While I was waiting, my phone beeped at me that it was about to die and Nancy volunteered her charger. It had been a thoroughly frustrating morning up until this point. Joe and Fancy Nancy went out of their way to help me buy supplies from ANOTHER STORE. That type of service is very rare these days... If I could give Pacific American Lumber zero stars for customer service, I would. We ordered hardwood flooring from PacAm in May with an estimated delivery date at the end of July. We set our renovation schedule with the delivery date in mind. When I called to follow up with the company in early July, it took a week for them to get back to me, only to find out that the order was delayed until August. We were told today after our contractor followed up with PacAm, that the order is delayed until mid-late September. I am totally disappointed with the service provided by Pacific American Lumber--it's a textbook case of over-promising and under-delivering. read more

Anyway, had contractor call and get us a discount. Salesperson is knowledgeable and compared to the rubbish they try to pass off as hardwood flooring at Lowes and Home Depot, the wood flooring at Pacific American Lumber is very good quality. We bought engineered wood flooring from them about 6 years ago, and they still look good as new. Went back to Pacific American Lumber when we needed more to do another area in our house. read more

I was in the market for Neolith, saw Pacific American's ad in a home magazine and decided to check them out. They have an impressive warehouse-organized, lots of parking, nice showroom and a truly great staff. Mostly worked with Nancy and she literally walked us through our entire project. She's very knowledgeable, efficient and most importantly - hilarious! Unlike some specialty suppliers, these guys are humble and easy to talk to. We aren't contractors but they never made us feel ignorant or like we were wasting their time with our questions. Service was great! I ordered a bunch of redwood for a residential project of ours and they were so accommodating and understanding of our tight schedule. Though, I admit, there were some problems early on from the suppliers end. Pacific American Lumber went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Nancy, from their office, took the time to come out to the jobsite personally to examine and document the damaged pieces of redwood, and was able to credit us for the unusable items. I went to Pacific American Lumber to get decking planks. My carpenter recommended cumaru but they did not have the length and quantity I needed. Instead of waiting they up sold me to the local Ipe which was more expensive but supposed to be better. After delivery and ready to install I discovered that most of them are not straight. Instead of going through the hassle of returning them and wasting my carpenter's time I went ahead and installed them. Just feel lousy every time I look at them. read more

I purchased my wood from Pacific American Lumber Company and I am so happy I did. My salesman's name was Don Detwiler. He is the nicest person and so very easy to work with. He goes out of his way to help you out and is always pleasant . His calm manner and experience is very reassuring. He has excellent ideas and is not afraid to share them with you. It is never an easy thing to do a renovation but with people like Don to help you, it becomes so much easier. I am grateful that I was able to work with Don and my contractor, Elmer Bueno from E. Bueno Construction who by the way is a genius with carpentry. A hard experience became so much easier and now I get to enjoy my deck renovation. It came out more beautiful than I could ever dream of.
