New patient and new to the area. Excellent place so far! All staff, reception/assistant and Dr Reams were super friendly. Got a great cleaning and exam/x-rays. Definitely feel like my spouse and I are in good hands here. As a bonus, beautiful lake front office. Inside the office is beautiful. The classic 60's architecture and the awesome decor make it a very warm and comfortable place to be. Definitely coolest dentist office I have ever been to. I have no anxiety with dentistry but I know a lot of people do, I think the mood and vibe here is very relaxing to calm any nervousness. They accept Delta Dental PPO as well. I was a new patient, I came in for a cleaning but he would not clean my teeth unless I agreed to X- rays; he took a full mouth over and over; filled me with radiation; aimed the camera at my eyes "to get a better shot and because that's how he does it". He looks very very old but does the cleaning himself; pulled my hair several times because he put his armpit on the top of my head to keep me still I suppose. He loves birds and wanted to know if I liked birds; I prefer furry animals but I was afraid he would get upset if I said so; I felt intimidated by his staff woman who stood over me; gave me a long document to sign and would not move; stood over me, rushed me to sign, said it was necessary to have my signature and hurried me to sign a la Gestapo method. To this day I don't know what I signed. I get nervous going to a dentist but this was intimidating, I left confused and kind of upset; like "what just happened?". read more

Not only have I never experienced pain like I have after my appt with Dr Reams. In addition he is very inappropriate. While he had my mouth open he said to me "do you know you have a very small mouth?' I shook my head because I couldn't talk. Then he said has nobody ever told you that like a husband or boyfriend? Omg! Not only was it inappropriate but he made assumptions about my sexuality. In the same visit I told him that I tried to get into tribal dentist but you are required to be a medical patient. He went off on a tyrant about how he doesn't get any help and doesn't feel like he should have to pay for them because he never stole anything from the native Americans. SMH. I hate dentists( I'm pretty sure they hate me back). Today, after a good amount of years of avoiding the dentist, I was finally forced to go( by a mean couple of cavities). He was kind, non judgmental, had great bedside manners, kept me occupied on conversation, mostly one sided, I said : um hum or hu hu. He remembers my family and what we do, he engages in a personal level. Today I was not terrified, didn't hate my dentist, I didn't promise I would never go back. Dr Reams is probably THE most knowledgeable dentist I have ever gone to. Everything he says is the truth, HE KNOWS TEETH. I have had the opportunity to go to MANY DENTISTS with my excellent insurance, and I will ALWAYS go to Dr Reams. His manner is warm and welcoming, one can tell he honestly loves people. Worst ever. Make sure they tell you what to avoid eating or drinking prior to extractions. He shot me 8 times to get me numb. Then while pulling out my tooth he used my other tooth for leverage and tore my crown off. He called me at 8PM to tell me he won't be pulling my second tooth and refd me to oral surgeon cause I didn't get numb ,upsetting me after the trauma of the extraction. He didn't need to call me that evening..it could have waited. read more

The absolute WORST dental experience of my life. If you have a fear of dentists, Reams is your worst nightmare. Unprofessional staff (with the exception of the receptionist.) I finished getting my dental work done somewhere else and it was the best decision I ever made. He is rough, does sloppy work, and is straight up rude. After sharing my experience in town with people I found out there are far more horrible experiences than I had. Go somewhere else!! read more

Dr. Reams is the most conscientious dentist I can imagine. We've been friends (via dentistry) for over 30 years. My 4 year old actually cried when her 2nd baby tooth fell out by itself because "Dr Reams would have done it better." Re: The first tooth: A childhood accident shoved it so far up into her gum that it started to attach to the permanent tooth coming down. Ukiah "childrens'" dentist said "not to worry, it'l be ok." Dr. Reams saw the impending disaster on the X-ray, informed me of the repercussions, and took it out. He has done MAJOR work on my mouth and never once hurt me. I hadn't been to a dentist in years because of previous painful experiences. I am a coward. Dr.Reams is a kind patient dentist who delt with my Nervous questions and walked me through my surgery I would never trust a dentist until I found him. Although he is a very busy man he took his time and cared for me and believe me when I say I'm not a easy person to care for. I would definitely recommend Dr. Reams to anyone who has a fear towards dental work. Failed root canal!. And i missed an app that was supposed to put a filling in the rootcanaled tooth and didnt think he could do anything because of that. So i called again and they said i needed to find another dentiat from too many missed apps. If i failed i would at least try and do something like extract what was left... read more

My experience was just horryfying. The dr here put me on nitrous oxide or laughing gas and put me on it for way to long and made me go unconscious from an overdose, and the worst part is. Instead of saying hey I accident overdosed me. Tried to convince my mom that I had a emotional/mental disorder. I mean seriously how are you going to tell me I have a disorder like that and not be a qualified psychologist. Never ever going or recommend to anyone. Take business else where. read more

Dr. Reams saved my tooth and does everything there. I had a root canal done there and five years later no problems. You have to bill your insurance company but you get the money back. You have to pay up front with cash or credit card. He will take payments, too. He has a nice presence in his community with a nice looking building and town clock. We are lucky to have a denist on the northshore also he will help you if you call on vacation with an emergency. He fixed my tooth when I was coming up here on the weekends. He will help you on the weekend is what I am trying to say. read more

I have been a patient of Douglas Reams for several tumultuous years through solely having medi-cal health insurance. Never have I met a medical doctor of ANY kind with less compassion and empathy for his patients, AND his past employees. If you are afraid to go to the dentist, have anxiety in the dentist's chair, or have a low pain threshold, DO NOT go to this doctor. (Going more into depth, having an extremely low tolerance for pain, and higher tolerance to pain meds, I was often treated like a common junkie while imploring Dr. Reams to tend to my medical needs for pain management after more than several surgical extractions.) If not, you may have a chance at this man treating you with dignity and respect. This Dr. Reams is a complete condescending jerk!! He spent my entire first appt. telling me most of what I needed done wasn't covered by medi-cal and would have to come out of my pocket. On my last appt he did a root canal... I have had 8 of these done and never had a problem/pain... not until Reams!!! I tried the whole weekend to reach him and when I finally did mon. Morn. He would not prescribe antibiotics or anything for pain! Worst dentist I've ever seen!!! He also needs to know that all people deserve care not just the people who can afford to pay him $! His staff amanda called asking for payment from april. I was trying to explain that if there was a lapse in my ups union dental benefits that they could bill medical. She proceded to tell me im a spoiled brat that wants to get everything for free. Dr. Reams was well aware of my insurance situation and I would have been willing to pay whatever cost was mine but they wont get a dollar from me. I recently had an exam and despite the other reviews I read here on Yelp I had a great experience - as far as dental appointments go lol. The staff wasn't rude at all, in fact they all seemed to have sense in their heads and treated all the patients I saw with respect. Based on their policies it does seem they have little leeway for folks who are late or no shows, but I actually appreciate that. I don't want my time wasted and there's shouldn't be wasted either. So as long as you're a responsible and reasonable person you'll find your experience going smoothly. The doc was polite and explained things clearly, even made good small talk, no lectures. That's about the best you can ask for before meeting the business end of a drill. Only reserving the 5th star because I had a super easy exam, they can earn that once my root canal is done read more

This dentist does a LOT of emergency dental work because it pays so much more through medi-Cal. I went to him once for an emergency root canal and he said he'd done 11 that day. He does have a short fuse, bad bedside manner, and is openly rude to his assistant. I never went back to get it filled. Unfortunately he's the only one in the county who will take Medi-Cal in an emergency situation. read more

I have heard lots of good things about this dentist but when I called to make an appointment the receptionist seems very disorganized and she was extremely rude. I understand that I am a new patient and the office is very busy but there is no need to be rude to someone who is trying to become a patient at your office. I called and she took my name and number down and said she would call me back. Three days later I call again and ask why she hasnt called me back and how exactly am I going to get an appointment. She snaps back at me and tells me we are busy and booked up until March. Thats fine with me but if you keep me waiting the date is going to keep getting pushed further and further away so why cant you just make me an appointment! I think I will look for a different dentist regardless of all the great reviews I have got about Dr. Reams. read more
