My family and I grabbed a quick lunch after going to the Pittsburgh zoo and aquarium. The service was quick and definitely a hangout spot, but it was also family-friendly. They have indoor and outdoor seating, so whatever you prefer. The food was good. The only reason I'm giving it four out of five is that my dad's shrimp basket came out with a hair in it. I appreciated how the server and kitchen quickly fixed the issue by making him a whole new basket, and the manager took the entrée off the bill without even asking. I got the spicy Philly cheesesteak and it was great and quite spicy. My husband got the Nashville chicken, which was very large, but he loved it and devoured it all. We ordered the fried pickles, patty melt w fries ,and the overhaul burger w loaded bacon fries. I asked for no 1000 island on my burger but it came w 1000 island- which wasn't a huge deal I just scraped it off. The sandwich was incredibly lightly toasted- not brown but really buttered. Overall- pretty good and the fries were hot and perfectly salty. The fried pickles were great! The overhaul burger was pretty good- really really needs to have the bun toasted and buttered. A raw bun isn't taking any sandwich to the next level. The loaded fries were okay- just pretty soggy w the cheese so I'd prob skip those next time and get the reg fries. read more

Awesome bar and restaurant! They have an excellent outdoor space with fake grass, picnic tables with umbrellas, and tables on the patio under the shade of the roof over hang. There's also a large indoor seating area with tvs to watch sports. We sat in the grass area since it's dog friendly and allows easy self-ordering at the window. The menu is filled with delicious food options from burgers and philly cheesestakes, to tacos and pastas. I ordered the Fire Philly and it was absolutely delicious! Not only is the sandwich giant, but it's stuffed full of tender strip steak, red peppers, jalapeños, provolone cheese, lettuce, and tomato. Then topped with mayo and combustion sauce to give it extra spice. All of this on a fresh Mancini's bun. Every bite was flavorful and the perfect spice level that left your taste buds slightly burning for more. The dish also came with steak fries that were seasoned nicely. They also have a wide variety of local beer options on the drink menu to refresh your palate. I got the Trails to Ales Kiwi Berry Bliss Fruited Sour and really enjoyed it. The service was the biggest wow factor of the experience. An employee came out within 10mins with a water bowl and pup cup for my dog. All free and done without asking! I suspect this is a fun place to grab a beer. The beer list looks to be well-conceived with plenty of quality local brews available. The food, on the other hand, seems fairly uninspired. We ordered takeout, and the food was what it claimed to be but with the bare minimal amount of effort put into its preparation and presentation. The southwest veggie wrap was more of a dense burrito with limited vegetables than a wrap. The "inconceivable burger" (an Impossible Foods burger) was fairly plain and required some extra vegetables and sauces from my own fridge to transform it into something interesting. The shop salad was exactly what it claimed to be and nothing more. All that having been said, the space was nice, open, and inviting. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and our order was well packaged and ready to go exactly when they said it would be. If you're looking for a beer and some bar food, this is probably a reasonable destination: just don't expect anything more than that. I wouldn't exactly place it in the gastropub category. read more

I had the Fog Light Fish Sandwich, made with crispy beer-battered haddock (not cod) and the amazing flash-fried Brussels sprouts. My husband had the Wrench Dip Sandwich, a twist on the French dip, with Swiss cheese and horseradish mayo. He got the Onion Straws, finely sliced onion rings. Bree was our friendly server. When it's not busy a great place to hang out. But when busy the food loses quality and size. French fries use to be a good quantity but now they are literally smaller than the size of a fist. I literally counted 8 fries tonight on my plate. And they were barely almost warm on the verge of being cold and very limp and sad. While waiting for the additional tartar sauce i asked for when i ordered for my shrimp it never came and my shrimp went cold. So i actually didnt get to eat any of my shrimp. I just ate slighty warm fties. And you want me to pay 15 dollars for this! Never got checked to see if everything was OK. I will continue to get drinks here but no longer getting food. I've been here several times over the years - for trivia night, for dates, for an evening spent with friends. They have an inside area with booths and tables as well for a more traditional sit-down dining experience, as well as outdoor patio seating where you can order and wait for your food at a window. I usually go for the outdoor seating because I enjoy seeing the dogs. Their tacos are a little on the spicy side for me, but I strongly recommend the mac and cheese with BBQ pork! read more

I'm so torn by doing this review, I want to be honest but I believe Rear End has potential. For starters, I walked past the bar and noticed their impressive wall of whiskey and liquor. When I asked our waitress for a whiskey list, she was clueless. She offered to get a list, when she returned I got three options of limited availability in Pennsylvania. In my opinion, Rear End offers a generous mixed menu claiming to be known for their smash burgers. While Pittsburgh was late to the smash burger scene, they do have some pretty impressive new arrivals to the area. Most people are used to 5Guys, but Moonlit who recently came around has some decent Smash burgers. This burger that I received at Rear End was far from a smash burger. These patties from Rear End, which claimed to be a special blend were perfectly round shaped. Not smashed! With a frozen patty consistency and taste, Rear End patties flavor was almost off putting. I won't bother giving a guess on what Special blend of meat Rear End uses. I can only assume that it's not locally sourced and ground in house. To be fair, every burger place in or outside of Pittsburgh has its own unique way of cooking smash style burgers. To me, the biggest difference besides taste was not having that thin smashed patty with a little char on one side. I also got an order of chili cheese fries which our waitress Brittney recommended. These to me were good, borderline just ok, definitely not bad. In my honest experience, fresh cut fries is the only way to go and this is where Rear End did good. Big, thick cut Idaho type fries cooked perfectly. Not too well or crispy, not soft and mushy, I was impressed with whoever at Rear End prepared the potato itself. Now, the cheese sauce was good by itself, I would've been thrilled and maybe ecstatic with a bit of fresh peppered bacon. But, what lost me was the chili, this screamed canned chili, not Hormel but still the same. I've tried many canned and frozen big name chili sauces like Skyline and those at the local grocery stores. They all have a similar taste and texture as what was used at Rear End. My last comment is more geared towards attention to detail, as a past employee of a few restaurants this is something I've always felt passionate about. People say our eyes are the first judgement of food. This is very true, a sloppy mess is very distasteful and starts the meal off wrong. But, if the nicely put together plate doesn't match the taste of the food then your eyes were lied to. To both my wife and I, the biggest disappointment in our dinner at Rear End is the same. My wife's burger came with Brioche bun, while mine was a Kaiser roll. Neither was fresh and both could've greatly benefited from being buttered and grilled. We live outside of Pittsburgh, about 45 to 50 minutes away so we don't normally eat in the surrounding areas. But, I can't say I'd return to Rear End if I was near their establishment. To many other options in Pittsburgh when comparing price to quality when it comes to food. read more

This is a cool spot for bar food in town! They have a garage theme going on with a seating room and a bar. The bar food is decent here but nothing to really write home about. It's pretty spacious so you can do big groups here. I tried the chicken sandwich here and it was big and decent. I didn't really like the cloying sweetness of the honey on the chicken since it made it very sticky to eat. The corn slaw on it was good. Their fries are only ok since they get cold very fast and lose their crunch. They have pub nights on Thursdays with a special menu that has wings and disco fries and fish and chips on it. I think it might only be a Thursday thing but they have extended happy hour from 7-9pm. Regular every day happy hour is from 4-6 I believe. Great place for happy hour since it's $2 off drafts and wine! They carry a good beer selection full of local breweries. They had Arsenal cider and even delirium beer at one point. read more

French fries were cooked nicely as well. Draft list is above average and appreciate the taster offerings as well. I had a birthday party here last year and we all enjoyed ourselves very much. I think we had a party of around 10 people, they put us at a long bench-style table in the back. It was cozy and service was spot on. I'm told that the burgers are very good. My usual here is a salad and a glass of wine. Everything has always been fresh. It might sound like a strange compliment but I really enjoy the plain fries! The Tuesday trivia nights are a lot of fun, especially in the summer when you can sit outside. It's competitive! The best pub I've been to in quite some time. A cool concept & design with a great outdoor section! You can dine inside or enjoy their covered patio for dining. They also have an area to relax and have drinks while enjoying live music. While we were there they had an outdoor bar with two taps for a Troegs tasting event. It was a nice addition to what was offered on the menu and a nice break from a normal, sit-down restaurant. Etna is definitely a small town on the rise. I'm looking forward to what they will continue to offer in the near future. read more

The cheese sticks were a frozen product fried and had no flavor unfortunately. The burger patties were frozen as well and were those box hamburger patties like you can buy at any grocery store. The potstickers were frozen as well . My Mac and cheese had absolutely no flavor . All I tasted was a slight hint of black pepper seasoning , the pasta was Al dente though and had a nice chew to it, but unfortunately no flavor whatsoever. I was looking forward to this Korean gochujang cheese steak and THAT was tasteless as well. It was a frozen " Steakumm" product and the steak was over cooked and I had a bunch of burnt minced steak pieces throughout my sandwich. The only fresh tasty part of my cheese steak was the mancinis bread sadly. Personally it frustrates me when I pay for a meal at a restaurant and expect something new fresh and food I cant replicate at home because the recipe solely belongs to the place it is prepared at.. and I end up getting a meal of frozen food with no flavor at all. The frustrating part is as a customer I feel like I'm getting ripped off and deceived. Not cool to open a new restaurant and serve the public unauthentic food and charge them for it! A came here last night with a couple of friends for dinner and drinks. They have a lot of outdoor seating with heaters and a fire, as well as fresh air indoor seating, and some regular indoor seating. We sat outside, next to the building, and it blocked the breeze. We were actually not cold at all. Our waiter was excellent. He was very attentive, he let us try some samples of the beers and made sure we had everything we needed. He recommended his favorite items on the menu too. I tried the fried chicken sandwich and both of my friends got the open faced meatloaf sandwich with a fried egg on top. For a side, you can choose either fries, brussel sprouts, slaw or Mac n cheese. We tried everything except the slaw. As far as drinks go, they have a full bar, and 20 beers on tap, in addition to cans and bottles. They also had a Rear End Kolsch on tap. Many of their drinks were local and some were seasonal, which was nice. I had the sour they had on tap (Prairie Artisan Watermelon Girlfriend) and it was so good. The food was good. My chicken sandwich had a habanero glaze, which while wasn't too hot, was very messy! I had sticky hands by the time I was done eating. Both of my friends enjoyed their meatloaf sandwiches.
