We went for the first time to grab some simple food and beer. The venue is nice, spacious, etc. However, the food service was absolutely terrible. When we arrived it was almost empty. Maybe a few people at the bar and a couple of tables. We ordered nachos, burger, and a gyro. We waited over nearly 90 minutes for food. Every time we asked we were told the nacho cheese needed to be heated up. Funny that when the food arrived, the cheese on nachos was cold? The server/owner/whoever didn't seem concerned when I mentioned the time. If you want to have a beer, fine. If you have any desire to get your moneys worth buying any type of food, skip it. There are so many better options on Butler St. that serve the same beer with better service and food and/or food trucks who will be mindful of your order. Sad. read more

Let me say that this brewery has a lot of IPAs: that is a positive for me. They let us taste around 5 different beers before we made a decision. We got a few beers and started with nachos. The nachos were good, a bit pricey, but good. We didn't love the beer cheese so I wouldn't start with this again. Their menu has a lot so no concerns. We decided to get their Yinser Cheesesteak and I would get it again. It was big, the cheesesteak was very good (slightly on the sweet side). The only way to improve this meal is grill the bun but that is preference. We got here and no one was here but by the time we left there was 20 or more. The bartender was great: super friendly and he was a great guide. The place was slightly loud in the main room but they have a lot of space to spread out; there are other areas you can go to for large groups or groups that want a quieter environment. The perfect place to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon. We came for a late lunch and to try their beer. Appetizer: Nachos with beef is good. A bit colder than we are used to. Was talking with the owner and he talked us into coming to the brewery in Lawrenceville and kept repeating Lawrenceville "is just like Brooklyn". Which, we don't consider a selling point. Blah, blah re hip stores, NO chains... So, next day we plan on getting there around 11.30 am. They open at noon, NP...we'll walk around "Brooklyn". Get there, and there is NO Brooklyn. There's a car wash. A gun shooting place. An Aldi's. Asked a local, and she said it's a 15 minute walk to get to the edge of "Brooklyn". WTF? Place opens at noon. We were hungry, but cook hadn't showed up, and once he does, it takes awhile for the stove/whatever to heat up. Beer pourer had zero personality. Cook finally came in, beer pourer left for a very long time. When he came back, he never asked if we wanted anything to eat (we had already called an audible...no). A nice brewery in Upper Lawrenceville! They have a nice selection of beer options, all with fun names, ranging from IPAs, stouts, sours, and wheat beers. I ordered the Cranberry Sauce, which was a nice smooth sour that had a subtle sweetness and a tart aftertaste. We also ordered loaded nachos to share as an appetizer since happy hour deals include $2 off apps. The nachos were topped with fresh ingredients of jalapeños, tomatoes, beef, onions, sour cream, and queso cheese. The ingredients were chopped finely enough to mix throughout all the chips and the cheese was spread around so no chips became too soggy. There was a great beer selection and I wish I would have been able to try a few more. Food: I had a burger which was excellent. I would have added a picture but it didn't last very long. We visited Hop Farm on a Wednesday from 6-8pm. I was surprised that it was empty! There are a few outdoor tables, however, the inside is giant! Multiple rooms to choose from with the largest room having games. I ordered the Adjective + Noun beer and a Reuben. The Reuben is not a standing menu item, it was a part of their specials. Both the beer and the Reuben were super good. I would definitely order them again. My daughter came with and enjoyed the space. They do have a kids menu available. I love Hop Farm! In addition to their giant warehouse space, the bar and main seating areas are located in what feels like a house. There are so many places to sit and relax. Every time I come in here the staff are super welcoming and happy that you're there. They have a great rotating menu of beers with everything from dark beers to hazy, to lighter beers as well. After a stroll in Highland Park, we were looking for a spot to grab dinner that would allow pupster. We thought of Hop Farm as we always found it a good spot with solid food and beer. They've expanded quit a bit, taking over the other side of the building where the gym used to be. This means is far more spacious and has some games, so people can really enjoy the space. There's no table service, QR codes to scan and order via Toast. It's fairly easy and they're quick to get drinks and food out. This time around Hubs had the chicken sausage sandwich and I did the Hop Cobb salad. Both were filling and delightful. I appreciated the greens and sweet potato combo of my salad. All the beers were tasty. There's a smokey one that is very smokey, leaving me feeling as if I just ate BBQ. If that intrigues you, I recommend it. Until next time! read more

We came in on a Monday to try a couple of brews and have dinner. I liked the atmosphere inside. It was a little chilly as it was late November, but it was clean, the brews board was full of options and the food menu had a good amount of choices. They were getting ready to have trivia night, which would have been a hoot to stick around for, but we had two young children with us and needed to get them home and to bed. I ordered the nachos with pulled pork, my husband had the hot sausage sandwich, and my brother-in-law had the basic cheeseburger. I thought my nachos were delicious, my husband thought his sandwich was good, but my BIL ordered no onions and they served him a burger that was quite literally covered in grilled chopped onions. He ended up picking them all off and eating the burger anyway. I don't recall anything very special about the beers we tried but would go there again for a pint or two. The experience that stood out to me the most was that we wanted a flight but they don't offer this as an option. Instead, they will pour you a 4oz taster, but you pay about $4 or $5 for each one. So the "flight" we put together was $16-$20, which is really quite a silly amount to charge for taste testing. It was a rather pricey experience overall, but I do think it's worth going and giving the place a try. read more

Love love love this spot. I'm curious to know what it will be like on a summer evening - post covid restrictions. I don't eat hamburger or red meat but about once a year I have a craving for a juicy, messy burger that I can't deny. I usually try to seek out the best option around town so my once in a blue moon craving isn't let down. The Hop Farm Burger DID NOT DISAPPOINT! It's a smash burger style which is new to me. I don't think I could have eaten that burger any quicker. Neither burger was overdressed or too big to be eaten with your hands. Perfect! Highly recommend the salad on the side. It was so fresh and with just enough dressing. The fries were also delicious but more filling. I was able to clean my plate and my partner had leftovers for later. Moving from Asheville, NC I've been spoiled with great craft beer and I love a good sour. A lot of sour styles I come by in Pittsburgh are "fruited" or smoothie style and I'm just not a fan of that. The Very Merry Un-Birthday sour that is infused with herbal teas was a pleasant surprise to stumble on. A thirst quenching sour!! 10/10 recommend all the way around guys. First time making it into Hop Farm. I've had a few of their beers. Also randomly met some people from there at another brewery. I think it's really cool that they grow their own hops. Also love that they do some unique beers. Popped in here on a Wednesday night and there was a decent number of people, but not overly crowded. We were joined by two friends and able to all get seats at the bar. We didn't get any food as we were just there to try the beer. They have a pretty good size list with a wide variety, so we narrowed down those that sounded the best. Strawberry Cream Ale - Light and refreshing. I enjoyed this fruity take on a traditional cream ale. Hippy Heffer - This is a twist on a traditional Hefeweizen. It is brewed with hibiscus. I love hibiscus (usually in tea) so had to try this. The hibiscus flavor was subtle but worked well with the Hefeweizen. Cupid - Chocolate cherry stout. Cherry can be iffy in beer and either goes well or doesn't. I liked this beer, didn't love it. Traditional roasty chocolate stout notes with cherry flavor. One Nut Brown - Delicious brown ale. Smooth and very flavorful. Nothing too crazy, just well done. Cupid's Wicked Woody - We are fans of barrel aged beers so had to try this. The barrel notes definitely come through and I prefer it to the original version. However it didn't blow me away either. All in all everything we tasted was solid and service was good. They have a few unique tastes which is good to see, especially with how many breweries are around. When you walk in, you have to choose a food with your beer for obvious reasons in the state along with COVID. Once we took our seat, he provided water, took our orders and we ordered french fries, only because we had been eating all day. I had the New England IPA. I wanted a flight but he said due to COVID, they're not doing that at the moment. The beer was hoppy compared to VooDoo Brewery New England IPA. It was a good beer, but different in taste. Popped in here for a beer flight before dinner down the street. They had a happy hour that took a bit off full pour drafts, but I wanted to sample more of what they had. The tap room had a lot of medium dark wood, some classic rock playing from a cell phone play list. At the time it was just myself and two other patrons. I really am not the biggest fan of beers but this is just an amazing place to go! You can sit at the bar or at the table and the service is excellent and the food, wowza the food! And there are two beers that I really enjoy, and I am not the biggest of beer drinkers! I think that the environment is super warm and inviting. I like coming here even if it is to study at a back table and eat a pretzel and sip on a beer. Beer: SUGAR PLUM FAIRY 7.5%: Our holiday Saison brewed with plums and black currants. My favorite beer of the place. It is nice and light and tastes like fruit! Yum! Hippy: This beer is a hibiscus beer that is not on the online menu yet. I believe that it is new. I really enjoyed it. Again, light and fresh tasting. Fruity! Dessert: CUPID'S CRÈME BRULEE: Made with Cupid's Wicked Woody, wild berries, chocolate ganache. This was the only thing that I have not liked on their menu. This is not a real crème brulee and it was more like a bread pudding. It was thick and heavy and not at all creamy and fluffy like most crème brulee's. The top also didn't have that snap to it like a crème brulee should. I would pass on this. Food: GOUDA NACHOS: House Gouda beer sauce w/ local ground beef candied bacon bits, jalapeños, caramelized onion, & roasted tomatoes. This dish was pretty hefty. I mean I could have probably eaten it all myself but...I shared with the table. I think that the cheese sauce and the jalapenos really made the dish. There was not too much cheese as to weigh down the chips and nothing got soggy. I like this, but would probably go for the pretzels instead. Fresh House Made Pretzels: These are great. I would suggest that instead of the mustard that it comes with you ask for a side of the gouda cheese sauce. This sauce is awesome. The pretzel is fluffy and just so yum. I have ordered this each time that I have came into Hop Farms and I have never been disappointed. Flat Bread Pizza: There really wasn't anything super special about this pizza. I thought it was just meh. I would not suggest getting it if you are a flatbread pizza snob, I might be. It was kind of like a Totino's pizza. Pizza but nothing special. It was good and the crust was crunchy but still meh. Go and have fun, take a night and enjoy some beers and some good food! I like this place and I think that you will too! read more
