Rearn Thai is a no-frills establishment that delivers huge portions for low prices and though the food was only slightly above mediocre, it still hit the spot. The combo appetizer was all deep fried and tasty, though the crab rangoon and wontons were extremely stingy on the filling. For main courses, the crispy noodles had a perfect crunch. The chicken tasted almost rotisserie and the veggies were generous. Overall, it was a good dish that was surprisingly light and bland. Lastly, the whole fried tilapia was great when it was steaming hot, with crispy skin and tender meat, though it tasted fishier the more it cooled down. Nothing was spicy despite us asking for mild and medium. There was only one party apart from us dining in on a Wednesday night. Because no music was playing, it was pretty quiet but generally comfortable. After reading some other reviews, I'd skip the pad thai and pad see-ew, but recommend trying the chili fried rice and red curry! Dining along and with a winter storm, it was nice to have Rearn Thai open and friendly. I was seated immediately with a menu. It's a very small restaurant - only three or four tables inside so the owner/manager/waiter could see I was ready. Fresh spring rolls to start which were served with a small dish of peanut sauce. Interesting that one was a rice wrap and the other lettuce. More noodles and vegetables but yes, there were some shrimp in there. Main course for me today was the Drunken Noodles with chicken. Pad Se Ew was sent as a bunch of plain, unsauced fettuccini-like dry rice noodles with regular broccoli and carrots (?) mixed in, all three of which aren't actually ingredients in pad se ew (the whole point of the dish is the fresh wide rice noodles, Chinese broccoli and a thick, well balanced sweet soy sauce - all completely absent). Had to throw it out it was so disgusting. Pad Thai was flavorless unless you count dirty wok as flavor. Tiny frozen shrimp mixed in with the chicken which had a very... shrimpy flavor. Staying nearby for business I came here with a coworker. I read the reviews on Yelp but came here to see for myself. When we walked in it looked like Rearn Thai is geared mostly towards takeout. The person who greeted us (kind of) seemed mildly irritated we wanted to dine in. However after we we seated it seemed ok. The interior is small but pleasant. I ordered my standard test, Pad Thai with tofu. I asked for medium spice level. We also ordered crab Rangoon as an appetizer. The crab Rangoon was good, but I probably wouldn't get it again. The pad Thai was fairly plain. Don't get me wrong there were lots of veggies which were fresh and cooked well but the dish was kind of bland. I read some pretty bad reviews and almost didn't order, but I'm so glad I did. We've eaten here a couple times and tried a lot of things on the menu and some of them are VERY meh but the chili fried rice and the red curry are SO good. Husband says the fried rice is some of the best he's ever had and I agree. Things that were meh include the egg rolls (good flavor but strangely small) and pad Thai (extremely bland) but the chili fried rice and red curry were so good it more than made up for it. The same person that welcomed me is the one who did the service. Soon after i arrived all tables outside filled up. What was served is more of a chicken fried rice. I had ordered spicy but this was not spicy, i actually had to request some hot sauce. Food was very blend and did not taste like curry. I went there thinking i could prove the other low mark reviews wrong and was very disappointed. It was very aromatic and rolled over the differently taste buds on our tongue. Starting very savory and ending on an almost citric note. I ordered one meal, pad see ew, from this restaurant using GrubHub. It was the worst Thai food I have ever experienced. The flavors, typically present in pad see ew seemed to be entirely absent. What I experienced made me feel physically sick. The noodles seemed narrower than usual, dryer and quite possibly not rice noddles. Spiciness appeared to come from liberal dousing of ground black pepper. There was what appeared to be a large sheet of gelatinous protein in the bottom of the bowl. It may have been chicken skin. I'd ordered beef, which was present in small diced pieces. The broccoli seemed raw as did the large diced pieces of carrot. I took the trouble to walk the food back to the restaurant believing this must have been a mistake. My Pad See U was extremely dry and had no "sweet soy sauce" as it should have. It was so overcooked that the noodles were gummy and all stuck together. The only seasoning in this dish was the black pepper, which was sprinkled in clumps on top of the noodles. The fried tofu appetizer was also so overcooked that it was crunchy and dried up. Again, with no flavor, save for the watered down sweet & sour sauce they provided to dip it in. None of my food was as it was advertised on the menu. Never again. I have been eating here for 15 years. I love the pad prik pao. If you want something spicy, but with full flavor, give it a try. Many of my friends and family love their F4 (a Thai fried rice). They have the only crab rangoon that I will eat (more savory than sweet). All that said, this is a family-owned spot with no frills. Went on a Monday night during a tornado warning. My date and I were the only patrons in the restaurant. As we entered I checked with the manager to make sure they wanted to stay open to serve just two people dinner. It was not an issue at all. The staff were very attentive and the food was amazing! I had the yellow curry shrimp (delicious) and the egg drop soup (the best I have ever had). My date stuck with the pad thai and she was pleasantly surprised at the flavor and quality. When I tried it, the sauce seemed very watery without any strong curry or coconut flavor. For both dishes, were either too watery or oily.
