On my journey to find a new Chinese go-to and stopped by Fortune Express. Totally confused by the reviews as some people love it and some hate it and a lot were in the middle. After trying it for myself, I am in the middle, too. One thing for me was the poor packaging. I ordered the General Tso Chicken with the fried rice and Crab Rangoon. Plus, an eggroll. The eggroll was in a wax bag and separate from the combo plate. Kept it crispy but I thought it was ok. In the middle, lol. The combo plate was pretty messy and the sauce from the General Tso ended up outside the Styrofoam container into the bag and also into the compartment with the Crab Rangoon. The sauce actually was good with the Crab Rangoon, kind of like a spicy sweet and sour. I enjoyed the Crab Rangoon, it wasn't sweet except for the General Tso sauce, and I like it that way. The fried rice was ham fried rice which I haven't had before, it was fine. I would probably prefer BBQ pork or plain. The General Tso had a really good flavor and just enough spice. I would prefer white meat, but I am not sure you can request that. I will go back and try it again and try soup, other appetizers, and a different entre combo. I usually get the same thing every time (moo goo gai pan) which I have been very happy with, but decided to try the Mongolian beef instead. Big mistake! It was awful. One bite and the rest was in the trash. The beef had an "off" smell to it and was chewy and overcooked. read more

My first time ordering. I had my order delivered. Food arrived fast and well packaged. The driver used the instructions I left on the website when I ordered. My appetizer combo was very good. My sweet and sour pork was perfect. My one extra spring roll really hit the spot. I was told by other seniors in my building that it was good food. I agree and will order from you again. When I say this was the absolute worst Chinese food I have ever had, I'm not joking. I got the General Tsos Chicken special, and the chicken was pure fat and the sauce was so chunky and gloppy. We've gone here the last 2 times we've gotten Chinese food. The first visit was take-out, and while the wait was 30+ minutes over what they quoted us, the food was the best Chinese takeout I've ever had. We tried a little bit of everything and it was all fresh and delicious- favorites were the sweet and sour chicken, general tso's and the crab Rangoon. The second time we ordered delivery. Not as great as it used to be. Everything ordered was WAY too salty! I think by BP has gone up 20 points! Even had to dilute the egg drop soup twice. Portions have gotten smaller, even the fried wonton are tinier. I thought the boiled noodles & beef was beef lo mein. And the Szechuan beef could've been the pepper beef. I ordered mongolian beef and schezchuan beef along with potstickers and crab rangoon. crab rangoon had hardly any filling and even less flavor. potstickers tasted old and dry; horrible. the two types of beef were barely distinguishable, both were mostly beef and onions; one had a few green peppers and 1 water chestnut. the other had a few green peppers. sauce was about the same for both. not at all what I was expecting. my first visit will also be my last visit. This is our goto Chinese restaurant. Especially like the soups and House beef. But it's really just a takeout restaurant now. Pre Covid we loved to eat in there. Nice plates, bring food out in waves to eat. We really enjoyed it. But since Covid they serve everything on styrofoam and in takeout containers. I was craving cheap Chinese for lunch, so I headed over to Fortune Express. It was a simple lunch, I went with a Half Order of Beef Fried RIce, a single Eggroll and an order of Crab Rangoon. As always, I had to have an Egg Roll with my Chinese food. FE does a good ER, so my craving was satisfied. I was also craving some Crab Rangoon. I know it really isn't Chinese, but it's American Chinese and when you're hungry, it's okay. However, today it wasn't okay and that is why I need to take a star away from Fortune Express. The pockets holding the filling, barely had anything in them. I was so disappointed. My main dish, the Beef Fried RIce was excellent. It had plenty of beef and a half order was more then enough. I was really disappointed in the meal i got from here. I got a garlic chicken combo plate. It came with an egg roll. When i opened the styrofoam carton, i saw the eggroll fully immersed in the watery garlic chicken sauce. The eggroll was completely soggy and inedible. I have to admit most places are bad with consistently and this place never lets me down. It can be delivery which is always fast and accurate. It could be take out and ready promptly when I arrive. Customer service is good and straight to the point. I knew I wanted Chinese food for dinner, so I instantly thought of FE. Being that I have this first world issue of having to actually wait for what I want (awful, right?), I decided to use the delivery/pick up option, through Yelp Eat 24. YE24 was pretty easy to use. I simply selected my food items and at what quantity I wanted, the time slot for pickup, my payment option and I was set. Few minutes later, YE24 emailed me a confirmation receipt concerning my order. Within the email, you can track your order or even manage/reorder to fit your cuisine needs. Dope, huh? So, after surviving rush hour, I made it to the food! I went straight to the counter and paid for my order. However, I had a very small wait bc there were two huge orders ahead of mine. I wasn't upset, like I said, the wait was all of a couple minutes. My plain St. Paul sandwich, egg rolls and boiled duck noodles were very hot and sealed properly. 2 times in a row I've tried ordering hot braised chicken (spicy). The first time I used beyond menu directly and this time I went through their restaurant site that must use it. The last time the guy called out that the order was orange chicken plus everything else I ordered and I said it should be hot braised so he corrected what he said and stated it was not braised. What I got looked and tasted nothing like something hot braised. I called them back and explained what happened and that I wasn't going to come back out for it to be fixed and of course he said they'd make it right the next time. Well I wasn't going to make that big of a deal. So tonight I decided to go ahead and give them a try again and when I went in to pay and wait, I did make a point to ask them to make it right this time because they messed up. I really REALLY should have opened it up right there but wanted to trust that it would be right. After I ate my hot and sour soup, I opened up the chicken box and looked only to realize there is no way it could be spicy hot braised chicken. I tasted it and of course it's a sweet based sauce not spicy looking at all and definitely not spicy tasting. I think 2 strikes is now enough to not give them a 3rd try. read more

Their food is the best Chinese takeout we've had since moving here to St. Louis. Heck, it's better than ALL of the takeout we had in Florida as well! Always hot and fresh-tasting.
