It's not so crowded in January but it's jammed packed when there was no power and all the restaurants nearby closed up. Make sure you pack some food for your trip when you are in the desert!

I grabbed beer and souvenirs, but they've got a bit of everything: snacks, sunblock, postcards, T-shirts, hats, probably even a can opener if you begged nicely. Basically, if you forgot it, they probably have it - except milk (unless you want oat or almond - seriously!) Prices? Shockingly reasonable, especially when you're 100+ miles from the nearest Target. And shoutout to Ryan (pretty sure that was his name)--friendly, helpful, and clearly holding the general store together with good vibes and sheer willpower. Definitely worth a stop. She was thirsting, we were bursting. Our destination - Needles. This was a perfect stop to fuel our journey across the unforgiving Mojave Desert byways. Restrooms outside Post Office Building, quiet fountain. Shoshone Museum across the highway. It is so good to be in a Pod. I kept thimking about the Jayhawker Party crossing this desert in their wagons, leaving dead Jayhakers, oxen and horses dead on the trail as the Timbisha Shoshone watched from a distance. We have Chevron fuel, cold Sprite, air conditioning, four new tires and a fine engine taking us to Needles.
