Receiver is now the café to beat in Charlottetown. Really good espresso drinks and perfect atmosphere make it an always nice experience. I'm a fan of Cortados, and they make them well. I've also had the chocolatey-est cookie in recent memory while there, as well as a good vegan energy ball snack. When it's busy, it's pleasantly bustling; when it's quiet, you just want to curl up and veg on the super cozy upper level. Cocooned in exposed brick and wood, you will wish you lived in this space. The location is prime, as well, with the best patio to enjoy the outdoor summer entertainment--musical or people-watching--and it's literally the closest building to Confederation Centre (that hosts Anne of Green Gables: The Musical, as well as the Charlottetown Festival) A steady drip of PEI locals comes by daily, augmented by the artistic talent (actors, classical musicians, jazz musicians, artists and dancers) that percolates year-round at the stage door just across the street. read more

One of the best cafes in town. It is a nice place to hang out, work or relax. It is on Victoria Row which is closed to traffic in summer months and just in the heart of the city. You can sit here listening to free music while sipping your beer (yes they serve alcoholic beverages). I also like their healthy and delicious food options. It is my go-to place for a quick bite or an afternoon coffee with friends. read more

Receiver has a great selection of drinks as well as baked goods. We have breakfast here on a regular basis and it's fantastic. My only complaint would be that the servers could probably communicate a little better. We had 5 different people ask us if we needed a table after a long wait. read more

Megggga adorable coffee shop! The baristas and staff were humble and patient. Our coffees were tasty, they roast their beans, yum! Very happy to have visited here then a silly Starbucks. HINT: If you pay in USA, they do not give change back to you in USA, your change will be in CAN. So for those of you who do not know, right now 1 Canadian dollar is equal to 1.25 American. (The American dollar is worth more than the Canadian dollar.) Hence why you will lose .25 on every American dollar spent. Just a tid-bit. read more

Wanted to add a review to this lovely coffee shop as we became regulars after just a short while here. Coffee dudes were super nice and cute. Breakfast sandwiches were all amazing and I enjoyed the yoghurt/granola dish although I wish they would have upped the ante on the fresh fruit. One sliced strawberry and a few banana slices did not quite do it for me. Still, you would never find a decent coffee shop anywhere in Yvr (and possibly SoCal) with food this great and that was a good thing! Lines went quickly unless held up by tourists who did not understand how to order a coffee. (I guess they do it differently in England and Japan). Still, it became our favourite place. Also, they did not offer skim milk here; another east coast phenomenon. I guess people just aren't as healthy here which always takes some "getting used to". It was almost the only place we would go for coffee on PEI, and it's definitely a five star for the island. read more

Used to be Row142 just up the road. The old place was tiny and only did coffee and pizza. The new place has seating and a breakfast and lunch menu. The coffee quality is just as great and is still my favourite coffee in Charlottetown and matches the best I've had in places like Toronto (Dark Horse, Fahrenheit) and Halifax (Smiling Goat). They've only been open a little while so the only food I've tried is the breakfast sandwich. It was excellent, with a nice blend of flavours and interesting contrasts. The pizza in the old place was fantastic so I hope they get that going again soon as well. The environment in the cafe is nice too. I'll be interested to see whether they have issues with people nursing a single coffee while working for hours (that might be me). read more

This was the first place we hit up upon arriving on the island. It had rave reviews and we were starving so we were hoping for something at least a little above average, but we left underwhelmed. We all ordered the same thing--the breakfast bake which was described as a vegetable hash bake with beans and vegetables and an egg. It was all just oily, limp potato pieces with maybe two pieces of bell pepper and maybe a tablespoon of beans (I could barely see any, it was maybe half a dozen little tiny beans) and the egg. I know potatoes are a basic island staple, but come on. And the coffee was lukewarm. At least the lavender cookie was good. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect coming here for the first time from Toronto, but I was quickly very impressed. The space itself has a typical cool coffee shop vibe with lots of seating and the staff was super friendly. I ordered an almond milk latte to drink -- the coffee was bold and flavourful. To eat, I had the hash brown benny which was perfectly seasoned and presented beautifully. The food also came quickly despite the place being quite busy. Nice venue on Victoria row. The service was a bit off and our cappuccinos were served room temp which is why I can't give them 5 stars. My husband did ask for his to be re-done and the second time around it was perfect so your experience will probably just depend on who is working the machine. He also didn't like that the payment machine prompts you to tip before you've had your food/drinks. read more

After a trip on the Harbour Hippo I was hankering for a coffee, so I stopped into Receiver with my fam. The coffee was legit amazing and the baked goods were excellent - we sampled a gluten-free brownie (DROOL), a fruit Danish, and a Hello Dolly bar. Not going to lie, I might have to pop by again tomorrow before heading back to Halifax to pick up some coffee to take home with me - it's just that good! On one of our stops in PEI we stopped in Receiver's for lunch. A fun cozy atmosphere inside with a nice patio we weren't able to enjoy due to the rain that day. The menu is by far the most exciting. Tons of delicious options for everyone including vegans. Hubby got a breakfast dish while I got the vegan lentil soup to die for and a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich. Highly recommended and we wish there was one of these gems in our hometown Ottawa. read more

I've been to receiver 4 times, and I've really enjoyed each trip. The few menu items I've had have all been delicious. The breakfast sandwich, the german breakfast, and the toast are all amazing. Super cool eclectic coffee shop that is both cozy and comfortable. You enter in and as with many amazing java houses they have many tables and places to work plus a mezzanine over top of the coffee bar if a birds eye view is to more of your liking. I came here for breakfast and a cappuccino. Bfast was the Huevos Rancheros which to my surprise was okay but a bit disappointing. It was eggs, guac, beans with some lettuce served on what seemed to be a rock hard tortilla shell. I didn't complain as the lineup was long and I was hungry. But it was on the lower side of okay. Flavour was okay...tasted fresh, just it was like sawing through a piece of softwood. The cap made up for the less than desirable meal. The location was super cool and maybe just a mistake. Otherwise seems like the kind of place that if I was at UPEI I'd be hanging out here drinking too many java based drinks till I wouldn't sleep at night. Overall 3.5 on my visit. read more

We had coffee and hot chocolate here our last morning. We were originally going to go to Leohards Cafe and Restaurant but were not greeted with welcome arms (we were told to leave and stand outside for 5 minutes in the rain. In any event I had a latte and my husband a hot chocolate both drinks were warm and extremely flavourful. It's a coffee shop that offers breakfast and lunch. While we waited a few minutes to bring out our food we saw some of the other breakfasts being brought out and began questioning if we made the best choice. When our breakfast came out we were equally pleased. The food is freshly prepared and flavourful. We had the receiver breakfast which came with a perfectly poached egg and bacon with some salad, potatoes, and cooked cherry tomatoes. If you are in Charlottetown you really should go here. read more
