This place is bigger than it looks on the outside! Parking is street parking so definitely read the signs and you might have to park a little further away and walk there. My friend and I went here for a single mixer event and we've both never been to this venue so we weren't quite sure what to expect. Since the event was hosting, they bought all the drinks and food so I won't go too much into that but they did serve chicken nuggets and fries all night and they were hot fresh and flavorful! The venue itself is huge! Plenty of outdoor seating enough room for everyone and then they have two separate indoor seating areas one on the top floor and one on the main floor. I would definitely suggest this place for a casual meet up with a large friend group or even hosting an event here. The servers and staff were all pretty friendly quickly, busing table tables as they saw empty drinks and baskets. They also brought out fries and chicken tenders as fast as possible. Thought I would jump in to help up their current rating of 3.7 start as my yesterday's experience at this establishment in the LoHi was quite good. I was in the neighborhood for my side hustle shifts so the purpose of my visit was to grab something quick so I would be able to eat in the car after my assignment was done. When I saw the Chickpea Pesto on the digital menu, I simply couldn't think of anything else. I went with it without any sides. The price was $11. The food preparation didn't take too long despite being quite busy in the mid afternoon on Easter. Quick service is always a plus. In a matter of 10 minutes or so, the lady with whom I placed my order handed me my food. When I saw the inside of the container, I knew something went wrong. It appeared that what was between the buns was indeed chickpea basil but I ordered the wrap version of the Chickpea Burger as that option was indeed listed on the menu. Turns out, the manager (Mookie) who stepped in to correct the situation said that version was supposed to be taken off/out from the menu (or something along those lines he said) but it had still been remaining on it. He generously and kindly offered to get me something else with no additional charge so I ordered the Cobb Salad to substitute it. Right after placing it though, Mookie realized that his kitchen staff could still make the wrap version of the veggie burger so he had it quickly made and brought it to me. In the meantime, my Cobb Salad was never cancelled so he also brought that out. And all of a sudden, I had three dishes with the price of one dish ($11). Oh boy, I truly felt bad for this so I gave him my quick apology for all the confusion and mishaps. He was so pleasant about it and said I could keep all three with "Don't worry about it" comment. Since I didn't need three dishes, I gave the salad to my colleague friend who was in the restaurant with me (she ordered chicken tenders so she too, ended up with two dishes with one dish price!) m Thanks to Mookie and his kind staff for the excellent service my colleague and I received yesterday. As for the Chickpea Pesto.... As I got back to my car, I ate the much needed meal before I headed my way to what was next. I didn't realize that I was famished; I ended up devouring both the wrap and the burger in a matter of 15 minutes. And I was shocked as to how decent the chickpea pesto was. Well-marinated with overall light taste. Quite refreshing to say the least. Recess is mainly a young people's hangout place. Dog friendly where when we were in the restaurant the patio was filled with people with their adorable furry friends. Yesterday's pleasant temperature made the perfect opportunity for many to dine in outside under the sun. I shall definitely return to order me the same Chickpea dish. The food wasn't amazing, but it was decent bar food. The salad was stacked well, the hotdog was hearty and mixed some good flavors. I enjoyed my time here so much! It is lush and cute, with a dynamic field thanks to the stairs and levels that are built into the ambience. You immediately get an indoor outdoor field, with lots of picnic table style seating, some high tops, and mister to call you off from the hot day. It feels extra tucked away and cozy with the trees built into the entire atmosphere, the location was my favorite part of this place I thought their drink selection was pretty good, I tried a Riki tequila, seltzer, which I had never had before, and was delightful, and at 7% alcohol was the perfect level of strong, but manageable. We wanted to play one of their board games, this was my biggest issue with the place, most of the games were missing pieces, the markers were all dead, and most of them really weren't playable. We got a deck of cards from the bar by giving our ID as collateral instead. There isn't really any table service, it's a seat self type of situation and you can just go back to the bar whenever you need a new drink. I'm not sure if they have food as we did not order any, but the vibes were good. We had a great time at recess! Sat outside and watched the opening game of the nfl season. We had really nice cool weather had cover over our heads in case of rain! We got the Buffalo chicken wrap and the lemon pepper wings. Both were spot on! The tater tots were crunchy and salty! The wings were tender and had a nice little crisp to them. I'm a 27 year old woman and I was denied entry from this place because they thought my Texas drivers license was fake. I asked them to scan the license and they said they didn't have a scanner. They tried to confiscate my license and I had to rip it out of their hands so I wasn't left without a valid id. It was clearly a big power trip for the two low life security guards to deny entry to a young woman. Very disappointing as I went to the location in Chicago many times and always had a positive experience. Recess... either get an id scanner like every other bar on the block or stop hiring security who get hard ons from enforcing non-existent power to young women who want to patron your bar. read more

Cool, fun place on the edge of the Highlands. This is one of Denvers Hotspots for good bar food, good drinks,and good-looking people. As soon as you walk in, you're carded at any of the 3 entrances. There is a huge bar that has on opening to the outside and indoor area. The kitchen is to the left of the bar and cracks out great bar eats in lighting speed. The chicken caesar wrap was tasty but very simple (mainly lettuce and caesar dressing). The fish and chips were a solid choice too. They load up the side with crunchy, flavorful fries though which is a big plus. The people who didn't enjoy their meals as much ordered the french dip and cuban. I went to this place with some friends from work and it was a nice place to hang out. We sat outside so I cannot speak to how it feels on the inside but the outside seating was perfect. It was nicely shaded, they had misters on (it was hot out even for 6 PM) and overall just had a nice vibe. The drink prices were on point. The selection of beers wasn't super vast but they had a drink for every kind of person and the waitress was good at recommending favorites. The food probably came last for what I liked about this place but that is okay, it is more of a place to chill and less of a place that you are going to want to sit down and enjoy a meal. The food wasn't BAD by any means but pretty forgettable. I got the Korean Burrito and the beef had good flavor but the rest of the burrito was pretty much nothing. The fries were pretty flavorless but I will eat a whole plate of fries without realizing so I ate everything hahaha. I wish I could rate this less than one star. I was in a wedding in Denver, we all headed to Recess after. I'm from Wisconsin where when you turn 21 your ID does not change to horizontAl. I was told to either produce my birth certificate/ passport or download an app to gain admittance to the bar. Wisconsin has no app to produce this so I had to watch the security allow minors with illegal IDs into the bar while I called an Uber. Not sure where this rule originated but id love an explanation. Happy to take my legal money elsewhere, have fun with the minors who don't have jobs and can't tip! read more

The vibe of this bar is very nice. Especially in the sunny weather. I came to meet up with a bunch of friends who had arrived earlier. I love the Apricot Dry Dock beer which is rare to see at some places. However, my friends did have some things to say about other drinks and food. Apparently the margaritas were bad. Which was pretty disappointing as I have friends that live trying margaritas at new places. I suppose they won't be trying them here again.Other cocktails that were drunk were mediocre. As for the food, my friends tried the falafel, Mac n cheese and the sliders. Again, I was told were all mediocre. I guess they won't be coming back here for the food or cocktails. Oh wow. Recess totally reminds me of the bars I used to frequent in college, back when I didn't prioritize the quality of alcohol... I just wanted to party. Not that it's a bad thing but not my first pick as a 30-something. I had dinner with a friend next door at Postino. We had time to kill before an event we were attending, and I've been meaning to check this place out. We weaved our way through the rowdy crowds and ordered a basic Lagunitas IPA at the bar. This was my first experience at Recess Beer Garden! The server was very nice upon arrival and we walked to the patio area to pick our own table! We opted for shade, but missed out on the misters leaving our location still very hot with no where to relocate. This restaurant is very popular! There were tons of friend groups and lots of fun, high energy! We were also meeting some friends to catch up and the level of noise made it almost impossible to hear each other. So, if you're looking for a place to grab a drink and have a more airy/light atmosphere... this is it! Also, everyone brings their dogs... so you get to dog watch and melt over all of the cute pups around and hope that their little ears can handle the bumping tunes! Aside from that, the food was tasty! I really enjoyed the dry rub wings with everything seasoning! I would come back to this location for this wings alone! They were juicy, smokey, packed with flavor and cooked to the perfect temp! The wedge salad was good, but I definitely found myself wishing for more of the ingredients on top... ex: more blue cheese, avocado, etc. But, the lettuce was crisp and fresh which was a definite win! All-in-all this spot is great for a group of friends wanting to drink and order a bunch of dishes to share. It's not ideal for friends looking to catch up... it'll be difficult to hear each other.
