As far as crowded college clubs go....I was pleasantly surprised. Over 21 and the cover was $5 bucks, under 21 and it's $10. The sounds were bumping LOUD but either we moved away from the speakers or I became deaf & used to it. The music was actually decent to dance to and for a crowded weekend night, the service at the bar was excellent. Once you get past the puking girl near the bathroom, the boy attempting to grind anything that passes him and the annoying dancing ass pusher...it's not so bad. if I could rate this place 0/5 I would. I've been going to Recess for awhile and it's always been fun but I went today and my friend was accused of taking girls tops off and got kicked out. First off he's gay and second off I was with him the whole time and I'm positive that didn't happen. It was clear they made no effort to check the cameras or anything and told everyone he was taking girls tops off while he was leaving. This was place is awful and wouldn't recommend anyone going. Typical wanna be night life pool party roof spot. Last i met the owners they were solid with me but it's been years since i was here. Definitely a great pit stop on or after a big Fsu game. I guess I should have read all the previous bad reviews of the scam jobs being perpetrated on people who " buy" tables for the evening. We supposedly "purchased" a VIP table for $500 for our party of students and their parents last weekend for the 2023 FSU Parent's Weekend. My son has worked at Recess as security for the last year and a half. He was so excited to have the night off and super excited about getting a VIP table reserved. However, just like other reviews on here, we were contacted during the day prior to the reservation that our table had been "outbid" and we now needed to cough up $750 for that same table. Despite coming up with that ridiculous amount of money, we were booted out of our VIP table after 45 minutes and before we were even served any drinks by the supposed owner of the club. "Supposedly " he had paid $5000 for the table for his party of four. Our party of 14 was moved to a corner booth that didn't have enough seating for all of us by the direct walkway to the bar. People were running into us all night long. I asked over and over again to speak to the manager as we STILL had not received anything to drink after a two hour wait. No manager ever appeared and despite the fact that the drink girls assured us of a discount, it was only reduced to $662. This ruined my opinion of Recess and the way it operates. I will never step foot in this club again and I recommend the same to everyone else. The very worst part is that my son had to learn the hard way that rich guys with money can crap all over you and get away with it. That was the hardest thing for me to witness. His manager never addressed this with him afterwards, and certainly no one has apologized for the scam that they pulled. If they have NO QUALMS about treating their employees this way, BEWARE of spending a penny in this place. read more

The bouncers were incredibly rude to another level and so was security and the energy just straight up wasn't good. they honestly shouldn't let so many people in if they can't fit them all, not to mention i ordered a vodka cran and it literally was just cranberry juice. My sister went out for her friends 21st birthday and they bought out a booth and not even 30 minutes after they got there, they got kicked out bc some other kid bought out the booth, which is ridiculous. My sisters friend bought 2 bottles of Tito's and didn't even finish the second one and all the workers were telling them they had to leave. They were even going to buy a third bottle but got kicked out before then. Things have changed a lot since I went to FSU and that only started in 2003... I think what they have done with this whole Gaines St. area is really nice. With only going once I'd give Recess three and a half stars rounded to four. We came with a large group doing our own pub crawl and ended at Recess. It was $10 to get in so we thought it would be better to just get a table with the amount of people we had. It took some negotiating but we were able to get our huge party in with no cover, no reserved table, and four bottles. Some sorority girl was pissed that we were trying to get a table.. saying things like "Who do you guys think you are? Do you know how far in advance sororities and frats have to book tables here? Do you really think you will get a table?" She then turned around and proceeded to talk shit in front of us to her friends... I don't know if the typical crowd that hangs out here is like this girl... but we got the table and didn't let little miss prissy ruin our fun. Music was a variety of top 40, EDM, hiphop, and some rock towards last call. It was a fun night for us all. In certain areas the floors were extremely sticky... to the point where you can hear your shoe unglue from the floor with the loud music bumping in your ear. I would go again next time I am visiting Tallahassee. read more

I've been to Recess twice and the two times I went I absolutely hated it. It's extremely overcrowded to the point where it's impossible to move (maybe because of the huge diseased pool that everyone is scared of), the staff treats you like garbage to the point where security guards are constantly shoving you out of the way and how they won't let you in back in if they decide they don't like the material of your shorts. This is a horrible garbage club and I'd honestly think I'd have a better time clubbing at the top floor of Strozier during midterms. read more

Had a great time for my birthday last night. Cool rooftop club that is inside and outside. There is a swimming pool as well. 2 big bars one inside one out. Drink specials almost every Tuesday and Thursday as well as on the weekends. Got a VIP cabana by the pool last night. Service was great, drinks were great, overall awesome time. read more

I had just gotten in the club and I had barely had anything to drink, so I wasn't some random drunk guy starting trouble. I try to get on the dance floor and the security guards are pushing us around to get us to move out of the way. I feel a tap on my shoulder and see a security trying to talk to me so I walk to him and tried to talk, before I know it, I had my hands forced behind my back and was forcefully taken to the entrance and kicked out of the club. I got annoyed at these two guys pushing me around for no apparent reason, so I push him off of me and that's when he gave me a nice punch in the face. It's humiliating getting punched and kicked out of a club in front of so many people. I stayed to talk to the manager, but he refused to even listen to what I had to say because he "saw what I did to his security guards". Recess is a terrible establishment with terrible management and hire emotional teenagers who can't control their anger as their security guards. I am never going to this place again. I hope the teenage security guard who punched me thinks about what happened and realizes that he was blatantly mean, and screwed over a completely innocent and clueless guy. read more

I reserved a VIP booth last night for my birthday and after less than an hour (and $300 worth of bottles later) I was informed by the bottle girls that they had resold my booth and that I was going to be kicked out. The VIP manager refused to speak with me all night. The GM did an okay job at trying to resolve the situation but the fact of the matter is I spent over $300 to reserve a booth for the night and after less than an hour I was informed that I had to leave. It was completely unprofessional, bottle service was slow, service was poor, my money was not refunded, and I will never come back to this club again. read more

Really nice club and service however its just not for me. Alot of drunk students and the floor was covered in liquid from drinks. I really think if I was 10 years younger I would of enjoyed it much more. The dj was really bad however everyone there seemed to love it. I simply had trouble dancing to the break beats and constant switch up. I feel so old with my honesty here. If I was to rent out a club for a private party and there was no budget I would be renting out Recess. Unfortunately the patrons is what i wasn't into. 5 star service and 5 star place but I wouldn't be interested in returning. The drinks were fantastic. Fun if you've got money because it's expensive and if you use a card they will siphon all your money out. I went there and let loose, spent 100$(75$ on drink 25$ on the tip) but it was worth it. I was there for literally 2 minutes and a guy asked me and my friends to hang out with him. So once we sat down, a whole group of staff came up and escorted me and my friends out of the bar (which we just paid to get into) because the boys had be told to not bring anyone else in. So we got kicked out of the bar for no reason. Don't go here, their security sucks dick. The guys had been previously warned so they should have been sent out. Horrible Treatment! Yesterday I attended this club with a few friends. There was this guy who decided it would be smart to spray the club with champagne. Now I'm not one to bash anybody's celebration no matter what it is, Now I politely asked the guy not to spray in our direction. Probably 5-10mins later a bottle girl tells me that she needs to speak with me because the champagne guy feels threatened. Now how can you feel threatened when all I asked was to not spray my friend &' I. Next thing I know here come security telling me they need to have a word with me. Without ever hearing my side or simply asking me what happened I'm escorted to the elevator, they prevented my friends from coming with me &' I was told I had to leave. I tried asking TPD why was I being asked to leave &' even tried explaining yet everyone from the staff to the officer wanted nothing to do with me ..... with that being said Recess obviously has some discrimination issues &' I'll never spend my money or time at this establishment again &' will be contacting corporate! read more

Literally made this account to throw this shade. Ordinarily I would never blast a place for the way they do things, but I'm leaving my reservations the same place I'm leaving my desire to ever return here. I went here for my friend's 21st birthday. Super chill night, pre game, party bus, real dope friends. On our way up, we pay to get in, "$10" the girl says at the podium. I hand her a twenty, and literally get one five and four ones back. Such a scam. But whatever. Every place has got there shit, so I shrugged it off. About thirty minutes goes by. We're dancing and having a really great time. All of a sudden, I'm violently grabbed by a security guard, and dragged away. All I hear is "you're out, you're out." I'm visibly confused as I shrug to my friends as they slowly get smaller and smaller with the increasing distance. Eventually, I get thrown into an elevator, my band gets ripped off, and the meat-for-brains security major says "we don't take that shit." I'm more confused than ever at this point. I inquire, and apparently, I had a cup of liquid and I was throwing it everywhere, getting the entire club soaking wet, then I proceeded to throw said cup. Well that's real chill because I HADN'T EVEN ORDERED ANYTHING YET SO IDK WHERE I EVEN WOULD HAVE RECEIVED A CUP. But whatever. I tried to explain that there's been a huge misunderstanding, but as it turns out, security majors have forgotten everything but grabbing and throwing, so his ability to reason was nonexistent. It's unfortunate this injustice happened, but it's even more unfortunate that I'm forced to give this establishment at least one star, thus giving them far too much credit. read more
